RESUMO

Molecular weight (MW) of dissolved organic matter (DOM) governs its redox capacity, playing pivotal roles in methanogen-bacteria symbiosis-driven CH4 production. However, the effect of redox capacity of DOM ranked by MW on these symbiotic associations during anaerobic digestion have never been investigated. The electron-donating (EDC) and -accepting capacity (EAC) of DOM with different MW were quantified, elucidating their impacts on bacteria-methanogen symbiosis-driven CH4 production. By contrast, DOM with 7000 > MW > 14,000 Da constituted the primary contribution to EAC, with an average contribution of 44.63 %. DOM with MW > 14,000 Da emerged as the predominant contributor to EDC, with an average contribution of 49.10 %. Random forest showed that EAC/EDC of DOM ranked by MW was the important factors for methanogenesis by driving shifts in microbial symbiotic relationships. 46 genera (relative abundance of 69.55 %) of microorganisms exhibited robust associations with EAC/EDC. EDC of DOM with 3500 < MW < 7000 Da exerted positive effect on CH4 by modulating the corporation of Caldicoprobacter, norank_o__TSCOR001-H18, norank_o__MBA03 and Methanobrevibacter. EDC of DOM (7000 < MW < 14,000 Da) promotes CH4 production by regulating cooperation of Corynebacterium, Pseudomonas and Methanosarcina, Methanothermus. EDC of DOM (MW > 14,000 Da) enhances CH4 production by modulating cooperation of Ureibacillus, Treponema and methanomassiliicoccus, methanogenium. EAC of DOMs were negatively correlated with CH4. This study broadens our knowledge on the intricate process of methanogenesis and holds significant importance in developing a microbial symbiosis regulation strategy based on electron transfer system.

Cell-cultured meat holds significant environmental value as an alternative protein source. Throughout the 21st century, cell-cultured meat has progressively penetrated commercial markets. However, a systematic review encompassing the entire field needs improvement. Employing Citespace, Vosviewer, and R-Bibliometrix software, a bibliometric analysis was used to present the research progress and general development trends of 484 articles on cell-cultured meat from 2000 to 2022 based on countries, authors, institutions, and keywords. This analysis provides ideas for the future development of cell-cultured meat in different countries or regions worldwide. Research on cell-cultured meat from 2000 to 2022 has undergone two phases: fluctuating growth (2000-2013) and rapid growth (2013-2022). Noteworthy contributions to cell-cultured meat studies emerge from author groups in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and China, with influential institutions like the University of Bath significantly impacting pertinent research. Furthermore, over the past two decades, research has leaned towards exploring topics such as "biomaterials", "cultured", "land use", "public opinion", "animal welfare", and "food safety". Furthermore, this study reveals differences in nomenclature between regions and institutions. "Cultured meat" is more popular in some countries than in other forms. Institutions in Asia use "cultured meat" more frequently; however, institutions in the Americas adopt "cultivated meat" and rarely adopt "in vitro meat", and institutions in the European region have no particularly prominent tendency towards a specific nomenclature. Future research should emphasize aligning the labeling of cell-cultured meat with effective management strategies and referencing regulatory policies across various countries. For the first time, we use three different bibliometric methods to analyze temporal and spatial variation in research on cellular meat. The results of this study have a multiplier effect. We provide a theoretical basis and a practical reference for the identification of alternatives in the dual context of "food crisis and food security" and "climate crisis". At the same time, we also provide a reference for the sustainable development of the food system.

Purpose: To explore 1) the level of shared decision-making (SDM) participation in intraocular lens (IOL) selection in cataract patients and the factors that influence this participation and 2) the relationships between preparation for decision-making (PrepDM)and the level of SDM participation and satisfaction with the decision (SWD). Provide guidance for improving SDM in ophthalmology. Patients and Methods: 176 cataract patients were asked to complete the PrepDM scale, the 9-item Shared Decision Making Questionnaire (SDM-Q-9) and the SWD instrument in IOL decision-making process. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of the level of SDM. The Process program and bootstrap sampling method was used to test whether the level of participation in SDM was a mediating variable among the three. Results: The SDM-Q-9 median score was 77.78 (IQR 31.11-88.89). Patients with a history of surgery in the operative eye (P=0.022) or PrepDM <60 points (P<0.001) had lower SDM-Q-9 scores than patients with no history of surgery in the operative eye or PrepDM ≥60 points. Patients with an education level lower than primary school had lower SDM-Q-9 scores than patients with other education levels (P<0.05). The PrepDM of cataract patients was positively correlated with the level of SDM (r=0.768, P<0.001) and with the SWD (r=0.727, P<0.001), and the level of SDM was positively correlated with the SWD (r=0.856, P<0.001). The level of SDM fully mediated PrepDM and SDW, with a mediating effect value of 0.128 and a mediating effect of 86.66% of the total effect. Conclusion: The SDM of cataract patients involved in IOL selection was in the upper middle range. Education, history of surgery in the operated eye, and PrepDM were factors that influenced the level of SDM. The level of participation in SDM fully mediated the relationship between PrepDM and SWD.

Shearing-induced nucleation is known in our daily lives, yet rarely discussed in nano-synthesis. Here, we demonstrate an unambiguous shearing-induced growth of Au nanowires. While in static solution Au would predominately deposit on pre-synthesized triangular nanoplates to form nano-bowls, the introduction of stirring or shaking gives rise to nanowires, where an initial nucleation could be inferred. Under specific growth conditions, CTAB is responsible for stabilizing the growth materials and the resulting oversaturation promotes shearing-induced nucleation. At the same time, all Au surfaces are passivated by ligands, so that the growth materials are diverted to relatively fresher sites. We propose that the different degrees of "focused growth" in active surface growth could be represented by watersheds of different slopes, so that the subtle differences between neighbouring sites would set course to opposite pathways, with some sites becoming ever more active and others ever more inhibited. The shearing-induced nuclei, with their initially ligand-deficient surface and higher accessibility to growth materials, win the dynamic inter-particle competition against other sites, explaining the dramatic diversion of growth materials from the seeds to the nanowires.

The monitoring of antioxidant capacity is very important to evaluate the quality of antioxidant foods or drugs for market regulation. Herein, dechlorination treatment of waste PVC/scrap irons were conducted in subcritical water to obtain carbon-based Fe composites (CM-Fe-dPVC) with peroxidase-like activity. The electron bonding of C 2p and Fe 3d orbital led to strong electron migration ability. CM-Fe-dPVC exhibited excellent activity of simulated peroxidase. Vitamin C (VC) and CM-Fe-dPVC had competitive behaviors on •OH generation in TMB oxidation reaction. A portable paper based colorimetric test kit was developed for monitoring total antioxidant capacity of beverages and pharmaceuticals on the market (with the detection limit of 0.1 µM for Vc). The results of life cycle assessment (LCA) revealed that the proposed strategy had low global warming potential. This research could provide important reference for high value recycling of organic solid wastes.

The appearance of disordered lithium dendrites and fragile solid electrolyte interfaces (SEI) significantly hinder the serviceability of lithium metal batteries. Herein, guided by theoretical predictions, a multi-component covalent triazine framework with partially electronegative channels (4C-TA0.5TF0.5-CTF) is incorporated as a protective layer to modulate the interface stability of the lithium metal batteries. Notably, the 4C-TA0.5TF0.5-CTF with optimized electronic structure at the molecular level by fine-tuning the local acceptor-donor functionalities not only enhances the intermolecular interaction thereby providing larger dipole moment and improved crystallinity and mechanical stress, but also facilitates the beneficial effect of lithiophilic sites (C-F bonds, triazine cores, C=N linkages and aromatic rings) to further regulate the migration of Li+ and achieve a uniform lithium deposition behavior as determined by various in-depth in/ex situ characterizations. Due to the synergistic effect of multi-component organic functionalities, the 4C-TA0.5TF0.5-CTF modified full cells perform significantly better than the common two/three-component 2C-TA-CTF and 3C-TF-CTF electrodes, delivering an excellent capacity of 116.3 mAh g-1 (capacity retention ratio: 86.8 %) after 1000 cycles at 5 C and improved rate capability. This work lays a platform for the prospective molecular design of improved organic framework relative artificial SEI for highly stable lithium metal batteries.

The inadequate stability of organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites remains a significant barrier to their widespread commercial application in optoelectronic devices. Aging phenomena profoundly affect the optoelectronic performance of perovskite-based devices. In addition to enhancing perovskite stability, the real-time detection of aging status, aimed at monitoring the aging progression, holds paramount importance for both fundamental research and the commercialization of organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites. In this study, the aging status of perovskite was real-time investigated by using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. Our analysis consistently revealed a gradual decline in the intensity of the absorption peak at 0.968 THz with increasing perovskite aging. Furthermore, a systematic discussion was conducted on the variations in intensity and position of the terahertz absorption peaks as the perovskite aged. These findings facilitate the real-time assessment of perovskite aging, providing a promising method to expedite the commercialization of perovskite-based optoelectronic devices.

BACKGROUND: The detection of plasticizers in the environment is important to prevent environmental risks and people's health hazards. Improving recycling efficiency of waste PVC still faced challenges. RESULTS: In this work, it was found that solid products from waste PVC/coal gangue dechlorination in subcritical water (dPVC) had strong catalysis activity for luminol-H2O2 chemiluminescence (CL) reaction. Phthalates, common plasticizers, could bond and adsorb on dPVC, which greatly inhibited the luminol-H2O2-dPVC CL reaction. Based on this, a low-cost CL analysis was constructed for the detection of phthalates combinations (PACs) and di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) in the environment. The detection limit for PACs and DEHP was 0.048 ng/L and 0.13 ng/L, respectively. Compared with HPLC standard method, the dPVC CL analysis had accuracy and reliability for the detection of phthalates in actual environmental samples. Besides, the results of life cycle assessment (LCA) revealed that dPVC for CL sensing materials had significantly small global warming potential (GWP). SIGNIFICANCE: The use of dPVC for CL sensing not only improved the recycling efficiency of PVC, but also reduced carbon emissions of obtaining CL sensing materials.

The study examined how children's self-regulation skills measured by the strengths and weaknesses of ADHD symptoms and normal behavior rating are associated with story comprehension and how verbal engagement and e-book discussion prompts moderate this relation. Children aged 3-7 (N = 111, 50% female, Chinese as first language) read an interactive Chinese-English bilingual story e-book with or without discussion prompts twice with their parents (2020-2021). Results demonstrated that the lower children's self-regulation skills, the more they struggled with story comprehension. Critically, our data suggest that embedding e-book discussion prompts and more verbalization in English can mitigate this negative association for children with inattention/hyperactivity. These findings have critical implications for future e-book design, interventions, and home reading practice for children with inattention/hyperactivity and those at risk for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Introduction: At present, the use of beneficial microorganisms to control cucumber Fusarium wilt is a widely used method, and the rhizosphere microecological reset is one of the mechanisms involved. However, how biocontrol strains reshape cucumber rhizosphere microecology remains to be further studied. Methods: The composition changes of cucumber root exudates induced by biocontrol strain 1JN2, the microbial ecology of cucumber rhizosphere and the colonization ability of biocontrol strain 1JN2 in cucumber rhizosphere were analyzed through UHPLC-MS/MS analysis, Illumina high-throughput sequencing and SEM, respectively. Results: First, cucumber plants treated with biocontrol Bacillus 1JN2 reduced the disease severity of Fusarium wilt by 60%. Significant changes in cucumber root exudates were found after 1JN2 inoculation and the contents of four amino acids including glutamine, tryptophan, glycine and glutamic acid were significantly increased. Second, It was found that the bacterial diversity in the rhizosphere of cucumber was significantly increased in both the strain treatment group and the amino acid mixture treatment group, The number of Bacillus was the largest in all dominant populations, exceeded 20% in all treatment groups. The bacteria of Hydrogenispora and Vicinamibacteria were significantly increased after treatment. Discussion: Overall, the results demonstrated that amino acid substances in cucumber root exudates induced by biocontrol strain 1JN2 can shift the cucumber root microenvironment and prevent the occurrence of Fusarium wilt disease.

The interactive effects between the emerging contaminant antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and the traditional pollutant total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) in contaminated soils remain unclear. The synergistic removal of TPHs and ARGs from composted contaminated soil, along with the microbial mechanisms driven by the addition of biogas slurry, have not yet been investigated. This study explored the impact of biogas slurry on the synergistic degradation mechanisms and bacterial community dynamics of ARGs and TPHs in compost derived from contaminated soil. The addition of biogas slurry resulted in a reduction of targeted ARGs and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) by 9.96%-95.70% and 13.32%-97.66%, respectively. Biogas slurry changed the succession of bacterial communities during composting, thereby reducing the transmission risk of ARGs. Pseudomonas, Cellvibrio, and Devosia were identified as core microorganisms in the synergistic degradation of ARGs and TPHs. According to the partial least squares path model, temperature and NO3- indirectly influenced the removal of ARGs and TPHs by directly regulating the abundance and composition of host microbes and MGEs. In summary, the results of this study contribute to the high-value utilization of biogas slurry and provide methodological support for the low-cost remediation of contaminated soils.

BACKGROUND: Cellular myofibroma is a rare subtype of myofibroma that was first described in 2017. Its diagnosis is often challenging because of its relative rarity, lack of known genetic abnormalities, and expression of muscle markers that can be confused with sarcomas that have myogenic differentiation. Currently, scholars have limited knowledge of this disease, and published cases are few. Further accumulation of diagnostic and treatment experiences is required. CASE SUMMARY: A 16-year-old girl experienced left upper limb swelling for 3 years. She sought medical attention at a local hospital 10 months ago, where magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 5-cm soft tissue mass. Needle biopsy performed at a local hospital resulted in the diagnosis of a spindle cell soft tissue sarcoma. The patient was referred to our hospital for limb salvage surgery with endoprosthetic replacement. She was initially diagnosed with a synovial sarcoma. Consequently, clinical management with chemotherapy was continued for the malignant sarcoma. Our pathology department also performed fluorescence in situ hybridization for result validation, which returned negative for SS18 gene breaks, indicating that it was not a synovial sarcoma. Next-generation sequencing was used to identify the SRF-RELA rearrangement. The final pathological diagnosis was a cellular/myofibroblastic neoplasm with an SRF-RELA gene fusion. The patient had initially received two courses of chemotherapy; however, chemotherapy was discontinued after the final diagnosis. CONCLUSION: This case was misdiagnosed because of its rare occurrence, benign biological behavior, and pathological similarity to soft tissue sarcoma.

Early detection of renal fibrosis (RF) is very important given that it is irreversible when it progresses to the terminal stage. A key marker of RF pathogenesis is activation of myomyofibroblasts, and its targeted imaging may be a promising approach for early detection of RF, but no study has directly imaged activation of renal myomyofibroblasts. Cu2+ plays a major role in the fibrotic activity of myofibroblasts. Herein, inspired by that Cu2+ can complex with bovine serum albumin (BSA), BSA-Ag2S quantum dots (QDs) with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) property are synthesized. Then BSA-Ag2S QDs are modified by chitosan (CS) with renal targeting and hyaluronic acid (HA) with myofibroblast targeting to obtain the AIE assay system (QDs@CS@HA). The system is simple to synthesize, and produces a rapid NIR fluorescence signal turn-on response and a low detection limit of 75 × 10-9 m to Cu2+. In addition, cellular and animal experiments have shown that QDs@CS@HA has good biosafety and cell-targeted imaging capability for RF. Based on the successful application of QDs@CS@HA and the mechanism of RF progression in early RF detection, it is expected that QDs@CS@HA may detect RF before the appearance of clinical symptoms.

Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) causes huge economic losses to agriculture every year; thus, understanding the mechanism of plant resistance to CMV is imperative. In this study, an integrated analysis of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations and proteomic results was used to identify cytoarchitectural differences in Nicotiana tabacum cv. NC82 (susceptible) and cv. Taiyan 8 (T.T.8; resistant) following infection with CMV. The TEM observations showed that the structure of the chloroplasts and mitochondria was severely damaged at the late stage of infection in NC82. Moreover, the chloroplast stroma and mitochondrial cristae were reduced and disaggregated. However, in T.T.8, organelle structure remained largely intact Selective autophagy predominated in T.T.8, whereas non-selective autophagy dominated in NC82, resembling cellular disorder. Proteomic analysis of T.T.8 revealed differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) mostly associated with photosynthesis, respiration, reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging, and cellular autophagy. Biochemical analyses revealed that ROS-related catalase, autophagy-related disulfide isomerase, and jasmonic acid and antioxidant secondary metabolite synthesis-related 4-coumarate:CoA ligase (Nt4CL) exhibited different trends and significant differences in expression in the two cultivars after CMV inoculation. Furthermore, mutant phenotyping verified that reduced Nt4CL expression impaired resistance in T.T.8. The identified DEPs are crucial for maintaining intracellular homeostatic balance and likely contribute to the mechanism of CMV resistance in tobacco. These findings increase our understanding of plant cytological mechanisms conferring resistance to CMV infection.

Insects pose significant challenges in cotton-producing regions. Here, they describe a high-throughput CRISPR/Cas9-mediated large-scale mutagenesis library targeting endogenous insect-resistance-related genes in cotton. This library targeted 502 previously identified genes using 968 sgRNAs, generated ≈2000 T0 plants and achieved 97.29% genome editing with efficient heredity, reaching upto 84.78%. Several potential resistance-related mutants (10% of 200 lines) their identified that may contribute to cotton-insect molecular interaction. Among these, they selected 139 and 144 lines showing decreased resistance to pest infestation and targeting major latex-like protein 423 (GhMLP423) for in-depth study. Overexpression of GhMLP423 enhanced insect resistance by activating the plant systemic acquired resistance (SAR) of salicylic acid (SA) and pathogenesis-related (PR) genes. This activation is induced by an elevation of cytosolic calcium [Ca2+ ]cyt flux eliciting reactive oxygen species (ROS), which their demoted in GhMLP423 knockout (CR) plants. Protein-protein interaction assays revealed that GhMLP423 interacted with a human epidermal growth factor receptor substrate15 (EPS15) protein at the cell membrane. Together, they regulated the systemically propagating waves of Ca2+ and ROS, which in turn induced SAR. Collectively, this large-scale mutagenesis library provides an efficient strategy for functional genomics research of polyploid plant species and serves as a solid platform for genetic engineering of insect resistance.

PURPOSE: To ensure the safety of patients discharged from the hospital, a nurse-assessed scale for outpatient cataract surgery patients was constructed to provide a special tool for cataract patients' discharge readiness evaluation. DESIGN: This is a methodological study. METHODS: The development of the tool was completed between 2021 and 2022. Based on the literature review and qualitative interviews, the initial entry pool of the discharge readiness scale was established. After consultation with Delphi experts, the preliminary scale was tested by 312 participants to screen items and test reliability and validity. The analysis included internal consistency, content validity, and construct validity. The Strengthening the Reporting of Observation studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) checklist was used as the reporting guideline for this study. FINDINGS: The final Discharge Readiness Scale for Cataract surgery consists of 21 items in five dimensions: cognition of discharge readiness, personal status, mastery of health education knowledge, coping capacity, and social support. Five common factors were extracted from the exploratory factor analysis, and they explained 70.12% of the total variance. All of the indexes of the confirmatory factor analysis were within the theoretical allowable range. The Cronbach's α of the total scale was 0.903, and the scale-level content validity index/average variance extracted was 0.99. CONCLUSIONS: The Discharge Readiness Scale for Cataract surgery, evaluated by nurses, has good reliability and validity and can be used to determine the discharge readiness of cataract patients undergoing day surgery.

Analysis of transcription factors and chromatin modifications at the genome-wide level provides insights into gene regulatory processes, such as transcription, cell differentiation and cellular response. Chromatin immunoprecipitation is the most popular and powerful approach for mapping chromatin, and other enzyme-tethering techniques have recently become available for living cells. Among these, Cleavage Under Targets and Tagmentation (CUT&Tag) is a relatively novel chromatin profiling method that has rapidly gained popularity in the field of epigenetics since 2019. It has also been widely adapted to map chromatin modifications and TFs in different species, illustrating the association of these chromatin epitopes with various physiological and pathological processes. Scalable single-cell CUT&Tag can be combined with distinct platforms to distinguish cellular identity, epigenetic features and even spatial chromatin profiling. In addition, CUT&Tag has been developed as a strategy for joint profiling of the epigenome, transcriptome or proteome on the same sample. In this review, we will mainly consolidate the applications of CUT&Tag and its derivatives on different platforms, give a detailed explanation of the pros and cons of this technique as well as the potential development trends and applications in the future.

Introduction: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common gastrointestinal cancers and the second leading cause of cancer-related death. Although colonoscopy screening has greatly improved the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer, its recurrence and metastasis are still significant problems. Tumour cells usually have the hallmark of metabolic reprogramming, while fatty acids play important roles in energy storage, cell membrane synthesis, and signal transduction. Many pathways of fatty acid metabolism (FAM) are involved in the occurrence and development of colon cancer, and the complex molecular interaction network contains a variety of genes encoding key enzymes and related products. Methods: Clinical information and RNA sequencing data were collected from TCGA and GEO databases. The prognosis model of colon cancer was constructed by LASSO-Cox regression analysis among the selected fatty acid metabolism genes with differential expression. Nomogram for the prognosis model was also constructed in order to analyze its value in evaluating the survival and clinical stage of the colon cancer patients. The differential expression of the selected genes was verified by qPCR and immunohistochemistry. GSEA and GSVA were used to analyze the enrichment pathways for high- and low-risk groups. CIBERSORT was used to analyze the immune microenvironment of colon cancer and to compare the infiltration of immune cells in the high- and low-risk groups. The "circlize" package was used to explore the correlation between the risk score signature and immunotherapy for colon cancer. Results: We analysed the differential expression of 704 FAM-related genes between colon tumour and normal tissue and screened 10 genes with prognostic value. Subsequently, we constructed a prognostic model for colon cancer based on eight optimal FAM genes through LASSO Cox regression analysis in the TCGA-COAD dataset, and its practicality was validated in the GSE39582 dataset. Moreover, the risk score calculated based on the prognostic model was validated as an independent prognostic factor for colon cancer patients. We further constructed a nomogram composed of the risk score signature, age and American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage for clinical application. The colon cancer cohort was divided into high- and low-risk groups according to the optimal cut-off value, and different enrichment pathways and immune microenvironments were depicted in the groups. Discussion: Since the risk score signature was significantly correlated with the expression of immune checkpoint molecules, the prognostic model might be able to predict the immunotherapy response of colon cancer patients. In summary, our findings expand the prognostic value of FAM-related genes in colon cancer and provide evidence for their application in guiding immunotherapy.

Synthesizing realistic fine-grained images from text descriptions is a significant computer vision task. Although many GANs-based methods have been proposed to solve this task, generating high-quality images consistent with text information remains a difficult problem. These existing GANs-based methods ignore important words due to the use of fixed initial word features in generator, and neglect to learn semantic consistency between images and texts for discriminators. In this article, we propose a novel attentional generation and contrastive adversarial framework for fine-grained text-to-image synthesis, termed as Word Self-Update Contrastive Adversarial Networks (WSC-GAN). Specifically, we introduce a dual attention module for modeling color details and semantic information. With a new designed word self-update module, the generator can leverage visually important words to compute attention maps in the feature synthesis module. Furthermore, we contrive multi-branch contrastive discriminators to maintain better consistency between the generated image and text description. Two novel contrastive losses are proposed for our discriminators to impose image-sentence and image-word consistency constraints. Extensive experiments on CUB and MS-COCO datasets demonstrate that our method achieves better performance compared with state-of-the-art methods.

The development of low carbon treatment processes is an important issue worldwide. Partial denitrification coupled with anammox (PD/A) is a novel strategy to remove nitrogen and reduce N2O emissions. The influence of C/N ratio and NH4+ concentration on nitrogen removal and N2O emissions was investigated in batch reactors filled with PD/A coupled sludge. A C/N ratio of 2.1 was effective for nitrogen removal and N2O reduction; higher ammonia concentration might make anammox more active and indirectly reduce N2O emissions. Long-term operation further confirmed that a C/N ratio of 2.1 resulted in a minimum effluent N2O concentration (mean value of 0.94 µmol L-1); as the influent NH4+ concentration decreased to 50 mg L-1 (NH4+-N/NO3--N: 1), the nitrogen removal rate increased to 82.41%. Microbial analysis showed that anammox bacteria (Candidatus Jettenia and Ca. Brocadia) were enriched in the PD/A system and Ca. Brocadia gradually dominated the anammox community, with the relative abundance increasing from 1.69% to 18.44% between days 97 and 141. Finally, functional gene analysis indicated that the abundance of nirS/K and hao involved in partial denitrification and anammox, respectively, increased during long-term operation of the reactor; this change benefitted nitrogen metabolism in anammox, which could indirectly reduce N2O emissions.
