RESUMO

With the development and generalization of endoscopic technology and screening, clinical application of magnetically controlled capsule gastroscopy (MCCG) has been increasing. In recent years, various types of MCCG are used globally. Therefore, establishing relevant guidelines on MCCG is of great significance. The current guidelines containing 23 statements were established based on clinical evidence and expert opinions, mainly focus on aspects including definition and diagnostic accuracy, application population, technical optimization, inspection process, and quality control of MCCG. The level of evidence and strength of recommendations were evaluated. The guidelines are expected to guide the standardized application and scientific innovation of MCCG for the reference of clinicians.

RESUMO

Conventional polymers are usually processed at a much higher temperature than room temperature, which inevitably leads to huge energy consumption and degradation of the polymers and thus a low recycling ability. Herein, we synthesized a poly( n-butyl acrylate)@polystyrene (PBA@PS) core-shell polymer to prepare a typical baroplastic (processible at room temperature). However, this type of baroplastics always has a low mechanical property. To solve this problem, in this work, we introduced hydrogen bonds into the matrix and successfully reinforced baroplastics for the first time. The hydrogen-bonded interaction was introduced by complexing PBA@PS with poly(acrylic acid) and poly(ethylene oxide). The results show that the reinforced baroplastics possessed notably enhanced mechanical properties and good processability. Their mechanical strength and modulus reached as high as 5.6 (by 73%) and 10 MPa (by 400%), respectively. Moreover, the baroplastics could be remolded many times at room temperature and, at the same time, still showed a higher tensile strength (10.5 MPa, 3.3 times that of the initial PBA@PS, which was never achieved in previous works), which resulted from the reversible hydrogen bonds and reserved orientation of molecular chains. Our work opened a new path to reinforce baroplastics and could widen their applications. Furthermore, not limited to the hydrogen bonds, more sacrificial bonds, such as ionic bonds, host-guest interactions, and metal-ligand coordination bonds, could be used to fabricate high-performance baroplastics.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the performance of the chemiluminescence immune assay (CLIA) and the electro-chemiluminescence immuneoassay(ECLIA) for Treponemapallidum antibody(anti-TP) screening in blood donors. METHODS: The sero-panel samples from NCCL were tested with ELISA, CLIA and ECLIA assays synchronously to evaluate their performances respectively. RESULTS: The sensitivity and the negative predictive value of the CLIA were 100%, which were the same as one kind of ELISA, and better than the other ELISA; The specificity of the CLIA was 88.46%, the accuracy rate was 97.02%, the positive predictive value was 96.13%, which were higher than both ELISA. Due to the significant interference of sample heat inactivation in ECLIA detection, the result can not demonstrate the true performance of ECLIA in this study. The preliminary result was as follows: the sensitivity was 98.93%, the negative predictive value was 96.75%, and the accuracy rate, specificity and positive predictive value of ECLIA were 97.02%, 91.54% and 97.10% respectively. CONCLUSION: Compared with ELISA, the CLIA has higher sensitivity and specificity and can be used for Treponemal antibody screening in blood bank. Unfortunately, the data in this study cannot come to a conclusion for ECLIA and needs more testing.

RESUMO

Cisplatin (CDDP) is used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but due to the development of resistance, the benefit has been limited. Toosendanin (TSN) has shown therapeutic effects on NSCLC; however, the role of TSN on CDDP sensitization in NSCLC remains unknown. The antitumor effects of TSN and CDDP sensitization mediated by TSN were explored. TSN was added in various amounts to measure dose- and time-dependent cytotoxicity. Intracellular CDDP was detected by high-performance liquid chromatography. The protein levels of ATP7A, ATP7B, hCTR1, MRP-2, P-gp and Annexin A4 (Anxa4) were analyzed. The tests were conducted using normal NSCLC (A549 cell line) and CDDP-resistant cells (A549/DDP cell line). Anxa4 promotes CDDP resistance by regulating ATP7A, so Anxa4 was overexpressed and silenced and also transfected with pcMV6 or siRNA/ATP7A, respectively. Mechanistic investigations revealed that TSN decreased relative viability in NSCLC cells. Remarkably, TSN significantly enhanced CDDPsensitization in invalid doses. TSN downregulated Anxa4 expression, enhanced intracellular CDDP, and had no effect on MRP-2, P-gp, ATP7A, ATP7B or hCTR1. Subsequently, overexpression of Anxa4 led to a significant decrease in intracellular CDDP concentration. The adjustment of CDDP concentration regulated by TSN disappeared in Anxa4 or ATP7A-silenced cells. TSN also enhanced CDDP sensitization in single ATP7A-overexpressing cells, but had no effect on cells with simultaneous ATP7A overexpression and Anxa4 silencing. The present study suggests that TSN can mediate CDDP sensitization in NSCLC through downregulation of Anxa4.

RESUMO

The ultra-high mechanical, biocompatible and biodegradable porous regenerated cellulose/poly(ethylene glycol) (RC/PEG) composites with double network structure were fabricated via an simple method to dissolve cellulose followed by UV irradiation. The porous structure of RC/PEG was sensitively altered by PEG contents, which led to the porous structure morphology transition from 3D fibrillar network to close-grained sheet-like-network with the loading of cross-linked PEG. The porous RC/PEG showed excellent mechanical properties, i.e., the compressive strength can reach 33 times higher than that of neat RC (0.07MPa) at the compressive strain of 30%. Porous RC/PEG also displayed outstanding properties with openly porous structure and structural stabilization. Besides, porous RC/PEG exhibited good water absorbency, which the water absorbency ratio at equilibrium state was 83% higher than that of porous RC. This work provides an environmentally friendly and simple pathway to prepare non-toxic and biocompatible porous regenerated cellulose-based composites with high strength, structural stabilization and good water absorbency, which could be useful for packaging, biomedical applications, sewage purification, etc.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To further explore the function of combine use of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) and cisplatin (DDP) in lung carcinoma. METHODS: We used the combination drug to treat Lewis lung cancer mice, investigated the expression level of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), Kruppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) and A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 1 (ADAMTS1) and to further explore the inhibitory effects and potential mechanism of TMP combined with DDP on tumor angiogenesis. RESULTS: The tumor growth was suppressed in TMP group, DDP group and TMP combined with DDP group. Furthermore, the weights and volume of tumor, the expression level of VEGF, KLF4 and ADAMTS1 were found significantly changed between experiment group and control group. These findings suggest that TMP with DDP had additional or synergistic effects to inhibit the tumor growth effectively, might be achieved through reducing the expression of angiogenesis promoting factor VEGF and increasing expression of angiogenesis inhibitors KLF4 and ADAMTS1. CONCLUSION: KLF4 and ADAMTS1 may be synergically involved in the angiogenesis in mouse Lewis lung cancer through the different signal ways.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Our previous study demonstrated that selective nerve root block (SNRB) can influence decision-making in lumbar surgery by guiding the selection of nerve roots targeted for decompression in diagnostic doubt patients (DDPs). However, further studies were needed to determine whether this selective decompression (SD) procedure would result in similar clinical outcomes and reduce the perioperative parameters and postoperative complications as compared to the non-selective decompression (NSD) procedure. OBJECTIVE: The specific goal of this study is to compare clinical outcomes, perioperative parameters, and complications between SD and NSD procedures in DDPs. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective control study. SETTING: Gaozhou People's Hospital. METHODS: From January 2009 to January 2011, 57 lumbar surgery patients with diagnostic doubt were retrospectively reviewed. Basic patient parameters, as well as perioperative and postoperative data were compared between the selective and non-selective decompression groups. Clinical outcomes were evaluated using the visual analog scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores, and JOA recovery rates. RESULTS: Both groups showed significant improvement in VAS, ODI, and JOA scores between preoperative and postoperative measurements. The differences in VAS and ODI scores between groups were not significant at 3 and 60 months postoperatively (both P > 0.05). In addition, there was no significant difference in JOA recovery rate (P = 0.659) and survival rate (P = 0.586) during the 60 months following surgery. However, distinctly superior perioperative parameters (operation time and hospital stay, blood loss and drainage volume, laminectomy numbers, and fusion segment numbers) were observed in the SD group (P < 0.001 for each score). Moreover, the SD-treated group experienced significantly fewer adverse events postoperatively (P = 0.036). LIMITATIONS: The limitations of this study lie in the size of the study and selection of patients and in the fact that it was not feasible to include all cases of diagnostic doubt. CONCLUSIONS: On the basis of the 5-year follow-up data, we suggest that the SD procedure guided by SNRB is an effective and safe method for the surgical treatment of DDPs. This procedure produces superior perioperative parameters when compared with the conventional NSD procedure, but has a comparable clinical outcome. Moreover, the benefits of SD surgery include fewer perioperative and postoperative complications.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the method and clinical effect of MAST Quadrant for lumbar spondylolisthesis with adjacent segment degeneration. METHODS: From April 2014 to January 2016, 36 cases of lumbar spondylolisthesis with adjacent segment degeneration were treated by MAST Quadrant(target nerve decompression and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion or articulationes zygapophysiales fusion by unilateral fixation with MAST Quadrant). Twenty-three cases were degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis and 13 cases were isthmic lumbar spondylolisthesis. According to Meyerding grade of spondylolisthesis, 16 cases were grade I, 17 cases were grade II, and 3 cases were grade III. Visual analogue score (VAS), Oswesty Disability Index (ODI) and JOA score were used to evaluate the clinical outcome. RESULTS: The amount of intraoperative bleeding was 230 to 480 ml with an average of 340 ml and the amount of postoperative blood loss was 15 to 80 ml with an average of 43 ml. Operative time was 176 to 240 min with an average of 193 min; X-ray exposure time was 2 to 6 s with an average of 3.6 s. Two cases were complicated with dural tear without nerve injury during operation. Thirty cases were followed up from 12 to 17 months with an average of 15.2 months. VAS scores for preoperative, 5 days, 3 months after surgery were 7.6±1.7, 1.9±0.4, 0.8±0.4 respectively, and there was significant difference before and after operation(P<0.05). The ODI scores for preoperative and 3 months after surgery were 35.9±1.2 and 3.7±0.7 respectively, and there was significant difference before and after operation(P<0.05). JOA scores for preoperative, 5 days, 1 months, 3 months after surgery were 13.2±0.4, 24.4±0.4, 27.4±0.1, 27.9±0.5 respectively, and there was significant difference before and after operation(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: MAST Quadrant can be applied to treat lumbar spondylolisthesis with adjacent segment degeneration, and the minimally invasive sugical technique is a safe and effective method, with the advantage of simple operation, fast recovery.

RESUMO

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of furazolidone-based triple and quadruple therapy in eradicating Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in a multi-center randomized controlled trial. METHODS: A total of 720 H. pylori positive patients with duodenal ulcer disease were enrolled at 10 different hospitals in Jiangxi province in China. The patients were randomly assigned to four treatment groups as follows: patients in Groups 1 and 3 received rabeprazole (10 mg), amoxicillin (1000 mg) and furazolidone (100 mg) twice daily for 7 and 10 d, respectively; patients in Groups 2 and 4 received rabeprazole (10 mg), bismuth (220 mg), amoxicillin (1000 mg) and furazolidone (100 mg) twice daily for 7 and 10 d, respectively. The primary outcome measure was H. pylori eradication rate 4 wk after treatment by intention-to-treat and per protocol analysis, while the secondary outcome measures were symptom and sign changes at the end of treatment and 4 wk after the end of treatment, as well as the proportion of patients who developed adverse events. RESULTS: The demographic data of the four groups were not significantly different. Overall, 666 patients completed the scheme and were re-assessed with the (13)C-urea breath test. The intention-to-treat analysis of the H. pylori eradication rates in Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 were 74.44%, 82.78%, 78.89% and 86.11%, respectively. The H. pylori eradication rate in Group 4 was significantly higher than that in Group 1. According to the per protocol analysis, the H. pylori eradication rates in Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 were 81.21%, 89.22%, 85.54% and 92.26%, respectively. The H. pylori eradication rate in Group 4 was significantly higher than that in Group 1. The number of adverse events was 15 (8.3%), 16 (8.9%), 15 (8.3%) and 17 (9.4%) in Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively, including dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, skin rash, itchy skin, and malaise. The symptoms were relieved without special treatment in all of the patients. CONCLUSION: Both 7- and 10-d quadruple furazolidone-based therapies achieve satisfactory H. pylori eradication rates.

RESUMO

An electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) was applied to analyze the element Sr and Ca microchemistry patterns in otoliths of Larimichthys polyactis in Lüsi coastal waters of Jiangsu Province, China. The results showed that Sr was heterogeneously distributed along the sagittal plane of the otoliths. The highest Sr concentration was normally found in the otolith cores while much lower concentrations were found in the remaining areas. The corresponding Sr/Ca ratios were (7.10 +/- 1.00) and (4.79 +/- 1.01) in the former and latter, respectively, which were significantly differed (P < 0.01), but low Sr/Ca ratios even as low as (3.51 +/- 0.76) were also observed in several fish. Based on the above results of otolith microchemistry, the habitat history of L. polyactis was reconstructed as that high salinity habitats seemed to be required at the stages of hatching and post-hatching development, while the reduced salinity habitats seemed to be preferable for the growth and development at the remaining stages of the life history. Furthermore, several fish in this study had likely even experienced much lower salinity habitats at the early stages.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) has been associated with cardiovascular risk factors and atherosclerosis. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prognostic value of IGF-1 levels in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). METHODS: All patients with first-ever AIS from August 1, 2012 to August 31, 2013 were recruited to participate in the study. Clinical data were collected. The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score was assessed on admission blinded to serum IGF-1 levels. For the assessment of functional outcome at 90 days Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) was used. On admission, serum IGF-1 levels were determined by chemiluminescence immunoassay. The influence of IGF-1 levels on functional outcome and death was assessed by multivariate logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Patients with an unfavorable outcomes and non-survivors had significantly decreased serum IGF-1 levels on admission (P<0.0001 for both). IGF-1 was an independent prognostic marker of functional outcome and death [odds ratio 0.89 (0.84-0.93) and 0.90 (0.84-0.95), respectively, P<0.0001 for both, adjusted for age, NIHSS score and other predictors] in patients with ischemic stroke. Serum IGF-1 levels ≤130 ng/mL was as an value indicator for unfavorable functional outcome (OR 3.31, 95% CI:1.87-5.62; P<0.0001), after adjusting for other significant confounders. CONCLUSIONS: We reported a significant association between low serum IGF-1 levels and unfavorable functional outcome and death.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Hepatic resection is arguably the preferred treatment for huge hepatocellular carcinoma (H-HCC). Estimating the remnant liver volume is therefore essential. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using computer-assisted volumetric analysis for this purpose. METHODS: The study involved 40 patients with H-HCC. Laboratory examinations were conducted, and a contrast CT-scan revealed that 30 cases out of the participating 40 had single-lesion tumors. The remaining 10 had less than three satellite tumors. With the consensus of the team, two physicians conducted computer-assisted 3D segmentation of the liver, tumor, and vessels in each case. Volume was automatically computed from each segmented/labeled anatomical field. To estimate the resection volume, virtual lobectomy was applied to the main tumor. A margin greater than 1 cm was applied to the satellite tumors. Resectability was predicted by computing a ratio of functional liver resection (R) as (Vresected- Vtumor)/(Vtotal-Vtumor) x 100%, applying a threshold of 50% and 60% for cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic cases, respectively. This estimation was then compared with surgical findings. RESULTS: Out of the 22 patients who had undergone hepatectomies, only one had an R that exceeded the threshold. Among the remaining 18 patients with non-resectable H-HCC, 12 had Rs that exceeded the specified ratio and the remaining 6 had Rs that were < 50%. Four of the patients who had Rs less than 50% underwent incomplete surgery due to operative findings of more extensive satellite tumors, vascular invasion, or metastasis. The other two cases did not undergo surgery because of the high risk involved in removing the tumor. Overall, the ratio of functional liver resection for estimating resectability correlated well with the other surgical findings. CONCLUSION: Efficient pre-operative resectability assessment of H-HCC using computer-assisted volumetric analysis is feasible.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of endostar (ED) combined with cisplatin(DDP) on model of C57BL/6 rats, and to further investigate the inhibiting mechanism of endostar from tumor angiogenesis. METHODS: Lewis lung cancer cells were inoculated in C57BL/6 mouse, then the mouse were randomized into control group (group A), ED (group B), DDP (group C) and ED/DDP (group D). They were treated according to the plan. And the expressions of VEGF and Sema3A were evaluated by immunhistochemisty. RESULTS: The weight of tumor increased in group A and B. It was decreased in group C and D. The tumor volume was increased in all the 4 groups. The VEGF expression of group D was obviously lower than the other group 3, but the Sema3A expressed of group D was significantly strengthener than the other group 3. The VEGF expression of group B and group D were obviously low especially in the 4th-8th days. Pearson correlated analysis showed that the expression VEGF and Sema3A were negatively correlated (r=-0.72, P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: ED combined with DDP could control the tumor growth effectively, and avoid weight loss. ED could reduce VEGF expression, and enhance Sema3A expression. Tumor vessel presents transient normalization. It is easy for DDP perfusion, and to kill tumor cells.

RESUMO

The approach for DNA detection was established by using a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) system, in which the energy donor was poly-diallyldimethylammonium chloride-protected quantum dots and the energy receptor was ethidium bromide (EB) inserting into the double stranded DNA. The concentration of the probe DNA, EB and NaCl was optimized. Under the optimized conditions, the FRET system has a stable signal and good reproducibility. The linear range is 7.7-61.6 nM with the correlation coefficient of 0.998 and the limit of detection is 7.7 nM. This method is simple and sensitive, and makes the label-free DNA detection come true.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the cellular toxicity of isoniazid together with rifampicin and the metabolites of isoniazid on cultured QSG-7701 cells lines. METHODS: Isoniazid, rifampicin, mixture of rifampicin and isoniazid, acetylhydrazine, hydrazine were added in cultural media of QSG-7701 cells and cultured for 48 hours. The survival rate of cells was determined by MTT method. The cultural media and cells were collected and the activity of lactate dehydrogenase was detected by chromatometry. RESULTS: Compared with control group, the survival rate decreased significantly and the lactate dehydrogenase released from cell increased significantly in cells treated with isoniazid, rifampicin, acetylhydrazine, hydrazine. Hydrazine, the metabolite of isoniazid produced significant damage on hepatocytes in low concentration. CONCLUSIONS: Rifampicin together with rifampicin and metabolites of isoniazid produce cellular toxic effects and hydrazine may be the most toxiferous metabolite.

RESUMO

Based on the polyelectrolyte-protected CdTe quantum dots (QDs), which were prepared by self-assembling of QDs and poly-diallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDADMAC) in the help of electrostatic attraction, the strong fluorescence silica nanoparticles (QDs-PDADMAC@SiO(2)) have been prepared via a water-in-oil reverse microemulsion method. Transmission electron microscopy and Zeta potential analysis were used to characterize the as-prepared nanoparticles. All of the particles were almost spherical and there is a uniform distribution of the particle size with the average diameter about 25 nm. There is a large Zeta potential of -35.07 mV which is necessary for good monodispersity of nanoparticles solution. As compared with the QDs coated by SiO(2) (QDs@SiO(2)), the QDs-PDADMAC@SiO(2) nanoparticles have much stronger fluorescence, and their fluorescence stability could be obviously improved. Moreover, QDs-PDADMAC@SiO(2) exhibits good biological compatibility which promotes their application in cellular imaging.

RESUMO

This paper studied the expert system of genotype discrimination for the STR locus D5S818 based on near-infrared spectroscopy-principal discriminant variate (PDV). Six genotypes, i.e. genotypes 10-10, 10-11, 11-11, 11-12, 11-13 and 13-13, were selected as research subjects. Based on the optimum polymerase chain reaction (PCR) conditions, about 54 measuring samples for each genotype were obtained; these samples were tested by near-infrared spectroscopy directly. With differences between homozygote genotypes and heterozygote ones, and differences of the total number of core repeat units between the six genotypes, two types of genotyping-tree structure were constructed and their respective PDV models were studied using the near-infrared spectra of the samples as recognition variables. Finally, based on the classification ability of these two genotyping-tree structures, an optimum expert system of genotype discrimination was built using the PDV models. The result demonstrated that the built expert system had good discriminability and robustness; without any preprocessing for PCR products, the six genotypes studied could be discriminated rapidly and correctly. It provided a methodological support for establishing an expert system of genotype discrimination for all genotypes of locus D5S818 and other STR loci.

RESUMO

The nanocomposites of poly-diallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDADMAC) and CdTe quantum dots (QDs) (i.e. QDs-PDADMAC nanocomposites) have been prepared based on electrostatic interaction and their fluorescence stability in aqueous solution has been investigated. MTT method (3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide method) was used to study their cytotoxicity and A549 lung cancer cell as a model cell was also used to evaluate their cellular imaging. It was shown that the fluorescence stability of QDs-PDADMAC nanocomposites was much better than that of bare QDs both in aqueous solution and cell. Meanwhile, QDs-PDADMAC nanocomposites display very low cytotoxicity in the low concentrations and better staining ability compared with QDs. QDs-PDADMAC nanocomposites will have great advantage on the cell analysis detection and imaging.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lung cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world and one of the leading cancers that result in death. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the diagnostic value of the serum tumor marker pro-gastrin-releasing peptide 31-98 (ProGRP31-98) to pathological diagnosis as reference standard in patients with suspected small cell lung cancer (SCLC). METHODS: Literature searches covering 1978 through to 2009 were performed in Pubmed, OVID, MEDLINE, EMbase, Cancerlit, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and CBM using the key search words; 'small cell lung cancer', 'tumor marker', 'ProGRP31-98' and 'diagnostic tests', 'ELISA', 'EIA' and 'diagnostic accuracy'. Studies were collected and data analyzed to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum ProGRP31-98 levels for the diagnosis of SCLC compared with pathology. Eligibility criteria for inclusion in the analysis were based on criteria for diagnostic research published by the Cochrane Screening and Diagnostic Tests METHODS: Group (SDTMG). The characteristics of the included articles were appraised and the data were extracted from the original articles for further statistical analysis of study heterogeneity using Review Manager 4.2 software. Based on study heterogeneity analysis, a suitable 'effect' model was selected to calculate pooled sensitivity and specificity by meta-analysis. A Summary Receiver Operating Characteristic (SROC) curve and the area under the curve (AUC) were generated and sensitivity analysis conducted. RESULTS: A total of 22 articles were entered into this meta-review, including 11 English articles with a quality at level C. In total, the studies involved 6759 subjects, of which 1470 were diagnosed with SCLC by pathology, and 5289 subjects diagnosed with non-SCLC (NSCLC). The meta-analysis showed that heterogeneity among studies was high (P = 0.00001, I(2) = 86.8%). With ELISA, the pooled sensitivity was 0.72 (0.70 to 0.75 at 95%CI) and the pooled specificity was 0.93 (0.92 to 0.94 at 95%CI); the SROC and the AUC were 0.8817. These data suggest that ProGRP31-98 has a relatively high rate of missed diagnosis (28%), but a relatively low rate of misdiagnosis (7%). CONCLUSION: From meta-analysis, we concluded that serum ProGRP31-98 is a valuable marker with a high specificity for diagnosis of SCLC with a similar diagnostic accuracy to pathology.

RESUMO

Injection-molded semicrystalline polymer parts generally exhibited a so-called skin-core structure basically as a result of the large gradients of temperature, shear rate, stress, and pressure fields created by the boundary conditions of injection molding. Suppression of the skin-core structure is a long-term practical challenge. In the current work, the skin-core structure of the conventional injection-molded isotactic polypropylene (iPP) was largely relieved by the cooperative effects of an in situ microfibrillar network and interfacial compatibilizer. The in situ poly(ethylene terephthalate) microfibrils of 1-8 µm in diameter and large aspect ratios of above 40 tended to entangle with each other to generate a microfibrillar network in the iPP melt. During injection molding, the iPP molecules experienced confined flow in the microchannels or pores formed by the microfibrillar network, which could redistribute and homogenize the flow field of polymer melt. Addition of the compatibilizer, glycidyl methacrylate-grafted iPP, restrained the molecular orientation but facilitated preservation of oriented molecules due to the chemical bonds at the interface between PET microfibrils and iPP. The cooperative effects of in situ microfibrillar network and interfacial compatibilizer led to almost the same molecular orientation across the whole thickness of the injection-molded parts. Additionally, the content of ß crystals in different layers of injection-molded iPP parts depended on the combined effects of the molecular orientation, the amount of oriented crystals, and the crystallization time between 105 and 140 °C. The presence of the interfacial compatibilizer facilitated formation of the ß crystals because of preservation of the oriented molecules.
