RESUMO

Background and Purpose: Stability testing, conducted using a test-retest protocol, measures an instrument's reliability by evaluating the consistency of participant responses to survey questions with repeated testing within a short interval. No studies have measured the stability of the Verran Professional Governance Scale© (VPGS). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the test-retest reliability of the VPGS. Methods: Volunteers from a parent study using the VPGS were sent a link to a retest version of the survey 14 days after taking the initial survey with a reminder email sent 5 days after the first request. Item-level and subscale comparisons were made between participants' initial and retest responses using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) applying a two-way random-effects model. Results: VPGS subscales had ICC scores of 0.71 for decision-making, 0.73 for collateral relationships, and 0.86 for professional obligation. Conclusions: Findings suggest that the VPGS demonstrates test-retest reliability. Future research should evaluate the instrument's responsiveness.

RESUMO

This paper describes how a national collaborative of pediatric nurse scientists has leveraged the expertise of their membership and strategic networking to guide the development of the evolving hospital-based nurse scientist role and influence centers of nursing research. Members' narratives illustrate how their networking across the collaborative has resulted in increased clarity and understanding of the hospital-based nurse scientist role, consistency in job responsibilities and expectations, title changes that more accurately reflect the nature of the role, establishment or expansion of centers of nursing research, success in talent recruitment, diversification of center team members, reporting structure alterations, and dedicated nursing research funding mechanisms. These tangible outcomes enable pediatric nurse scientists to become more effective in their roles and transform the care of pediatric patients and their families.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To examine the relationships between practice environment factors and nurse manager (NM) perceptions of workplace mistreatment (WPM). BACKGROUND: NMs have a unique perspective of business operations and care delivery and can offer insight into how WPM manifests in clinical settings at the leadership level. METHODS: Researchers used a cross-sectional correlational design using a nonexperimental causal technique. A convenience sample of 139 NMs completed a survey regarding their perceptions of organizational change, the practice environment, and WPM. RESULTS: NMs reported experiencing incivility (98%) and bullying (90%). Approximately 20% variance explained mistreatment by relationships with supervisors and budgeted resources ( F4,134 = 9.16, P = 0.000). CONCLUSIONS: Modifiable factors can be identified to prevent or reduce WPM.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: During COVID-19, a Kaggle challenge was issued to data scientists to leverage text mining to provide high-level summaries of full-text articles in the COVID-19 Open Research Dataset (CORD-19) data set, a data set containing articles around COVID-19 and other epidemics. A question was asked: "What if nursing had something similar?" PURPOSE: Describe the development and function of the Nursing COVID and Historical Epidemic Literature and describe high-level summaries of abstracts within the repository. METHOD: Nurse-specific literature was abstracted from two data sets: CORD-19 and LitCOVID. LitCOVID is a data set containing the most up-to-date literature around COVID-19. Multiple text mining algorithms were utilized to provide summaries of the articles. DISCUSSION: As of July 2020, the repository contains 760 articles. Summaries indicate the importance of psychological support for nurses and of high-impact rapid education. CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this repository is the only repository specific for nursing that utilizes text mining to provide summaries.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A main concern that remains with the continued growth of online nursing education programs is the way educator and student relationships can be affected by new technologies. This interpretive study aims to gain an understanding of how technology influences the development of interpersonal relationships between the student and faculty in a virtual learning environment. METHOD: Using an established structured approach to qualitative metasynthesis, a search was conducted using PubMed, EBSCO, CINAHL, Medline, ProQuest, Ovid Nursing databases, and Google Scholar, focused on caring and relational aspects of online nursing education. RESULTS: Technology alters communication, thereby positioning the intentionality of the educator at the heart of interpersonal relationship development in virtual learning spaces. CONCLUSION: This interpretive synthesis of prior qualitative research supports the development of a framework for online nursing courses, the need for continuing education of nursing faculty, the value of caring intentions, and enhancement of the educator's technological proficiency.
