RESUMO

In this study, a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based extraction process for determining curcumin in food samples was carried out. MIP and NIP were thermally synthesized in acetonitrile solvent (porogen) using methacrylic acid as a functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a cross-linking agent, azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator, and curcumin as a template molecule. Parameters affecting the synthesis process, such as temperature, the ratio of the components in the reaction, and the extraction solvent, were investigated. The characteristics of the synthesized material were examined using infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The maximum adsorption capacity of the material was found to be 1.34 mg/g MIP with an adsorption efficiency of 89.96% for MIP and 12.35% for NIP. The MIP material exhibited high selectivity for curcumin compared to other compounds such as quercetin (18.00%), rutin (14.74%), and ketoconazole (0.00%). The analysis method for curcumin using the MIP material was performed with validated parameters including linear range (1 - 25 mg/L, r2 = 0.9997), accuracy (recovery rate of 90.90 %), precision (RSDR = 0.338 %, RSDr = 1.591 %), detection limit (0.051 mg/L), and quantification limit (0.156 mg/L). The validation results indicated that the HPLC-DAD method was entirely suitable for analyzing the curcumin content in food samples.

RESUMO

Inquiries into properties of brain structure and function have progressed due to developments in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). To sustain progress in investigating and quantifying neuroanatomical details in vivo, the reliability and validity of brain measurements are paramount. Quality control (QC) is a set of procedures for mitigating errors and ensuring the validity and reliability of brain measurements. Despite its importance, there is little guidance on best QC practices and reporting procedures. The study of hippocampal subfields in vivo is a critical case for QC because of their small size, inter-dependent boundary definitions, and common artifacts in the MRI data used for subfield measurements. We addressed this gap by surveying the broader scientific community studying hippocampal subfields on their views and approaches to QC. We received responses from 37 investigators spanning 10 countries, covering different career stages, and studying both healthy and pathological development and aging. In this sample, 81% of researchers considered QC to be very important or important, and 19% viewed it as fairly important. Despite this, only 46% of researchers reported on their QC processes in prior publications. In many instances, lack of reporting appeared due to ambiguous guidance on relevant details and guidance for reporting, rather than absence of QC. Here, we provide recommendations for correcting errors to maximize reliability and minimize bias. We also summarize threats to segmentation accuracy, review common QC methods, and make recommendations for best practices and reporting in publications. Implementing the recommended QC practices will collectively improve inferences to the larger population, as well as have implications for clinical practice and public health.

RESUMO

Bacillary necrosis of pangasius (BNP) is a disease caused by Edwardsiella ictaluri bacteria in striped catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus that results in high mortality rates. To control this disease, bacteriophages have been considered as alternatives to antibiotics. In this study, we applied the lytic bacteriophage PVN06 in striped catfish fingerlings to prevent E. ictaluri infection. In an experimental trial, the phage was administered to fish by feeding phage-coated feed with doses of 7.17±0.09, 8.17±0.09 and 9.17±0.09 log PFU/g feed per day before bacterial infection. Fish were infected by bacteria once with concentrations ranging from 3.01 to 7.01 log CFU/ml tank water. A day after infection, phage treatment resumed at a rate of once per day until the end of the trial. The results of the trial show that bacterial infection caused typical symptoms of BNP in fish with the cumulative fish death rate of 36.7±2.9 to 75.0±5.0%, depending on the bacterial concentration used for infection. Phage treatment with 9.17±0.09 log PFU/g significantly reduced the mortality rate, while treatments with 8.17±0.09 and 7.17±0.09 log PFU/g did not. This phage dose resulted in a 61.7-fold reduction in the toxicity of the bacterial pathogen and the survival rate of 15-23.3% in fish. Our study has demonstrated that the bacteriophage PVN06 protected striped catfish from BNP.

RESUMO

Hexagonal NaYF4:Tm, Yb upconversion (UC) phosphors with excellent UC luminescence quantum efficiency and chemical stability meet demands for applications in bioimaging and anti-counterfeiting printing. In this work, a series of NaYF4:Tm, Yb upconversion microparticles (UCMPs) with different concentrations of Yb were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Then, the UCMPs become hydrophilic through surface oxidation of the oleic acid (C-18) ligand to azelaic acid (C-9) using the Lemieux-von Rodloff reagent. The structure and morphology of UCMPs were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The optical properties were studied using diffusion reflectance spectroscopy and photoluminescent spectroscopy under 980 nm laser irradiation. The emission peaks of the Tm3+ ions are 450, 474, 650, 690, and 800 nm, attributed to the transitions from the excited state to ground state 3H6. These emissions are the results of two or three photon absorption through multi-step resonance energy transfer from excited Yb3+, confirmed via a power-dependent luminescence study. The results show that the crystal phases and luminescence properties of the NaYF4:Tm, Yb UCMPs are controlled by changing the Yb doping concentration. The printed patterns are readable under the excitation of a 980 nm LED. Moreover, the zeta potential analysis shows that the UCMPs after surface oxidation are water dispersible. In particular, the naked eye can observe the enormous upconversion emissions in UCMPs. These findings indicated that this fluorescent material is an ideal candidate for anti-counterfeiting and biological applications.

RESUMO

Since interleukin-8 (IL-8/CXCL8) and its receptor, CXCR1 and CXCR2, were known in the early 1990s, biological pathways related to these proteins were proven to have high clinical value in cancer and inflammatory/autoimmune conditions treatment. Recently, IL-8 has been identified as biomarker for severe COVID-19 patients and COVID-19 prognosis. Boyles et al. (mAbs 12 (2020), pp. 1831880) have published a high-resolution X-ray crystal structure of the LY3041658 Fab in a complex human CXCL8. They described the ability to bind to IL-8 and the blocking of IL-8/its receptors interaction by the LY3041658 monoclonal antibody. Therefore, the study has been designed to identify potential small molecules inhibiting interleukin-8 by targeting LY3041658/IL-8 complex structure using an in silico approach. A structurebased pharmacophore and molecular docking models of the protein active site cavity were generated to identify possible candidates, followed by virtual screening with the ZINC database. ADME analysis of hit compounds was also conducted. Molecular dynamics simulations were then performed to survey the behaviour and stability of the ligand-protein complexes. Furthermore, the MM/PBSA technique has been utilized to evaluate the free binding energy. The final data confirmed that one newly obtained compound, ZINC21882765, may serve as the best potential inhibitor for IL-8.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The temporoparietal fascia flaps (TPFF) have been widely used to cover the framework in auricular reconstructions. However, flap harvesting is mostly done by open surgery which may be easier but often results in bad scarring and hair loss. We would like to present a series of cases using endoscopic-assisted flap harvesting techniques with only one single cosmetic auricular incision. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Prospective studies from June 2018 to September 2021 on patients who underwent single-stage total auricular reconstruction using autologous costal cartilage and porous polyethylene (PPE) framework. Variables include age, gender, flap survivability as well as visual results and complications. RESULTS: A total of 61 TPFFs were harvested to cover 15 autologous costal cartilages and 46 PPE frameworks in 60 patients (one patient had operation on both sides). TPFF harvests are performed by endoscopic techniques with one single auricular incision. There was no flap necrosis, no bleeding and no cases required framework removal. Only 7/61 (11.5%) ears had small framework exposure which resolved on their own or only required local skin flap coverage and 1 ear had frontal nerve injury. CONCLUSION: Single-stage auricular reconstruction is a difficult surgery, yet greatly beneficial to young children. Through a single-incision endoscopic technique, we can obtain sufficiently large high-survivability TPFFs ensuring full coverage of the autologous costal cartilage or PPE framework. This method is reliable, and reproducible with advanced training. After reviewing the literature, we can state that our report probably includes the largest endoscopic-assisted TPFF harvesting series and the first to implement single-incision endoscopic technique in auricular reconstructions.

RESUMO

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most dangerous infectious diseases and is caused by Mycobacterium bovis (Mb) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mt). Branched-chain amino acid aminotransferases (BCATs) were reported to be the key enzyme for methionine synthesis in Mycobacterium. Blocking the methionine synthesis in Mycobacterium can inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium. Therefore, in silico screening of inhibitors can be a good way to develop a potential drug for treating TB. A pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP)-form of Mycobacterium bovis branched-chain amino acid aminotransferases (MbBCAT), an active form of MbBCAT, was constructed manually for docking approximately 150 000 compounds and the free energy was calculated in Autodock Vina. The 10 compounds which had the highest affinity to MbBCAT were further evaluated for their inhibitory effects against MbBCAT. Within the selected compounds, compound 4 (ZINC12359007) was found to be the best inhibitor against MbBCAT with the inhibitory constant Ki of 0·45 µmol l-1 and IC50 of 2·37 µmol l-1 . Our work provides potential candidates to develop effective drugs to prevent TB since the well-known structural information would be beneficial in the structure-based modification and design.

RESUMO

Bacteriophages infecting Edwardsiella ictaluri have been less investigated, although the host bacterium is one of the most important fish pathogens causing enteric septicemia of catfish (ESC). We present here two distinctly novel bacteriophages vB_EiM_PVN06 and vB_EiA_PVN09 infecting Edwardsiella ictaluri E1, with their geographical origins from the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Bacteriophage vB_EiM_PVN06 native to a mud sample reveals complete differences of biological properties with the phage vB_EiA_PVN09 originated from a viscus of a healthy catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) cultured in the same area. Morphological analyses combined with genomic data indicate that phage vB_EiM_PVN06 is classified to Myoviridae family and shares high similarity with E. ictaluri phage PEi21 genome, while vB_EiA_PVN09 is a member of Teseptimavirus genus, Autographiviridae family, and mostly closes to phage vB_EcoP_IME390. The vB_EiA_PVN09 is a T7-like bacteriophage, which has been firstly found infecting to E. ictaluri, and host range analysis also evidences for the cross-infection of this phage to Escherichia coli K12 and Escherichia coli DH5α. Together, our research highlights the diversity of bacteriophages infecting the pathogen E. ictaluri and suggests further explorations of lytic phages in environmental niches, to be exploited in feasible strategies of phage therapy in ESC disease control.

RESUMO

Haemorrhagic septicaemia caused by Aeromonas hydrophila in striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) is one of the most important aquatic diseases in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. However, antibiotic-resistant A. hydrophila strains have become popular and resulted in inadequate control of the disease in striped catfish farms. This study investigates the protective efficacy of bacteriophage PVN02 against haemorrhagic septicaemia in striped catfish via oral administration. The phage-containing pellets were prepared by spraying the phage solution on food pellets at 20 ml/kg. The rate of phage desorption from the food pellets into the water was very low; the phage titres in the water were approximately log 1.0 PFU/ml or undetectable. The in vivo experiment evaluating the protective efficacy of PVN02 against haemorrhagic septicaemia in striped catfish was conducted using 21 groups of 1,260 fish in 50-L plastic tanks in triplicate. The catfish were fed twice daily with phage-sprayed pellets. Different densities of bacterial suspensions were added into the tanks for 24 hr. Without the existence of the phage, the highest mortality rate was 68.3 ± 2.9% at the highest density of bacterial suspension. In contrast, the mortality rate at the highest density of bacterial suspension was significantly reduced to 8.33 ± 2.9% or 16.67 ± 2.9% at the phage dose of log 6.2 ± 0.09 or log 4.2 ± 0.09 PFU/g. This study provides a very practical manner of applying phage therapy to prevent disease in large-scale striped catfish farms.

RESUMO

NaYF4:Er,Yb upconversion luminescent nanoparticles (UCNPs) were prepared by hydrothermal methods at 180 °C for 24 h. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and TEM (transmission electron microscopy) images show that the resulting 60 nm UCNPs possess a hexagonal structure. In this work, maleic anhydride (MA) was grafted on the surface of UCNPs to induce hydrophilic properties. The photoluminescence spectra (PL) show upconversion emissions centered around 545 nm and 660 nm under excitation at 980 nm. The luminescent inks, including UCNPs@MA, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), deionized water (DI), and ethylene glycol (EG), exhibit suitable properties for screen printing, such as high stability, emission intensity, and tunable dynamic viscosity. The printed patterns with a height of 5 mm and a width of 1.5 mm were clearly observed under the irradiation of a 980 nm laser. Our strategy provides a new route for the controlled synthesis of hydrophilic UCNPs, and shows that the UCNPs@MAs have great potential in applications of anti-counterfeiting packing.

RESUMO

Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) can regulate environmental pH because of their metabolism. Because local acidification results in pitting corrosion, the potential capacity of pH regulation by SRB would have important consequences for electrochemical aspects of the bio-corrosion process. This study focused on identifying the effect of pH on the corrosion of duplex stainless steel 2205 in a nutrient-rich artificial seawater medium containing SRB species, Desulfovibrio vulgaris. Duplex stainless steel samples were exposed to the medium for 13 days at 37°C at pH ranging from 4.0 to 7.4. The open-circuit potential value, sulfide level, pH and number of bacteria in the medium were recorded daily. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization were used to study the properties of the biofilms at the end of the experiments and the corrosion behaviour of the material. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to measure the concentration of cations Fe, Ni, Mo, Mn, Cr in the experimental solution after 13 days. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) were used for surface analysis. The results showed the pH changed from acidic values set at the beginning of the experiment to approximately pH 7.5 after 5 days owing to bacterial metabolism. After 13 days, the highest iron concentration was in the solution that was initially at pH 4 accompanied by pitting on the stainless steel. Sulfur was present on all specimens but with more sulfur at pH 4 in the EDX spectra. EIS showed the film resistance of the specimen at pH 4 was much lower than at pH 7.4 which suggests the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel was better at higher pH. The results of this study suggest that the corrosion process for the first few days exposure at low pH was driven by pH in solution rather than by bacteria. The increasing pH during the course of the experiment slowed down the corrosion process of materials originally at low pH. The nature and mechanism of SRB attack on duplex stainless steel at different acidic environments are discussed.

RESUMO

Stainless steel is an important material used in many applications due to its mechanical strength and corrosion-resistant properties. The high corrosion resistance of stainless steel is provided by the passive film. Different stainless steels have different alloy elements and surface properties which could have a significant influence on bacterial attachment to the surface and thus might result in different microbial corrosion behaviours. In this study, the effect of adhesion of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) on corrosion behaviour in artificial seawater on different stainless steels was investigated. Stainless steel materials used were SS 410, SS 420, SS 316 and DSS 2205 and pure chromium. The contact angle was measured to study the effect of surface properties of materials. Adhesion was measured by counting cells attached to the surface of materials. The corrosion behaviour of the materials was measured by electrochemical testing including measuring open circuit potential, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic behaviour. The long-term corrosion behaviour of each material was studied after six months of exposure by measuring weight loss and surface analysis with scanning electron microscope with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. Hydrophobicity had a strong effect on bacterial attachment. Alloying elements e.g. nickel also had shown its ability to attract bacteria to adhere on the surface. However, the corrosion rate of different materials is determined not only by bacterial attachment but also by the stability of the passive film which is determined by the alloying elements, such as Mo and Cr. Chromium showed high resistance to corrosion, possibly due to toxicity on bacterial attachment. The nature of bacterial attachment and corrosion behaviour of the materials are discussed.

RESUMO

In this work, we propose simple and inexpensive methods to prepare micro/nano hierarchical Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) substrates, in which pyramid structure is created by using anisotropic wet etching of a silicon wafer and a silver thin film is deposited on these pyramid arrays by thermal evaporation. The ensemble is then annealed at 450 °C for 2 hours to form silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The sizes and density of the pyramids and AgNPs are optimized mainly by changing the etching temperature (60-80 °C), the thickness of the Ag-film (15-45 nm) and etching time (3-10 min). The ultraviolet visible (UV-Vis) absorbance spectra show that the AgNPs formed with the 30 nm-thick film exhibit the strongest plasmonic effect. Under these conditions, the spherical AgNPs with sizes of 42-48 nm are densely distributed on the silicon micro-pyramid array. The obtained SERS signal is the strongest at the pyramid base-edge size of 7-10 µm. The enhancement factor obtained from the abamectin probe molecules is as high as 1 × 106 and the SERS substrates enable the detection of abamectin concentrations as low as 5.7 × 10-9 M. Therefore, this work provides a novel SERS substrate structure that has a high potential for use in medicine and biotechnology or as a food security sensor.

RESUMO

New asterosaponin, acanthaglycoside G (1), along with three previously known steroidal oligoglycosides (2‒4), were isolated from the ethanolic extract of the starfish Acanthaster planci, collected off the coast of Vietnam. The structure of 1 was mainly elucidated by extensive NMR and ESIMS techniques as sodium 6-O-{ß-D-fucopyranosyl-(1→2)-ß-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1→4)-[ß-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1→2)]-ß-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1→3)-ß-D-quinovopyranosyl}-6α-hydroxy-5α-pregn-9(11)-en-20-one-3ß-yl sulfate. Compounds 3 and 4 showed slight cytotoxic activities against cancer RPMI-7951, HT-29, and MDA-MB-231 cell lines, but effectively inhibited in non-toxic concentrations colony formation of HT-29 and MDA-MB-231 cells and cell migration of MDA-MB-231 cells. Compounds 1 and 2 were inactive or less active, respectively.

RESUMO

Four new polyhydroxylated steroids 1-4 were isolated along with two previously known related steroids 5 and 6 from the methanolic extract of the starfish Anthenoides laevigatus collected off the coastal waters of Vietnam. Structures of new compounds were substantially elucidated by one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) NMR spectroscopy and HRESIMS techniques. Heptaol 1 and hexaol 2 contain the common 5α-cholestane skeleton, while hexaol 3 and heptaol 4 have the rare among starfish steroid compounds 5ß-cholestane skeleton. Compounds 1, 5, and 6 do not show cytotoxic effects against normal JB6 Cl41 and cancer HT-29 and MDA-MB-231 cells, however they inhibit cell proliferation and colony formation of cancer HT-29 and MDA-MB-231 cells.

RESUMO

We have elucidated genetic relationships of Vietnamese native pigs (VNP) using preliminarily collected samples by a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array. In order to confirm our previous results and compare with the results of a previous study using microsatellite (MS) markers, we aimed to characterize genetic diversity and population structure in wider varieties (24 breeds from 21 Provinces) of VNP across the country using 20 polymorphic MS markers recommended by ISAG/FAO (International Society for Animal Genetics/Food and Agriculture Organization) for diversity study. In this study, we collected 1,136 DNA samples of the VNPs and three exotic breeds. Our results revealed that the average number of alleles and allelic richness across the loci in VNPs were 10.0 and 7.6, which were higher than those of exotic breeds. Genomic components among VNPs were subjected to the sampling locations. Interestingly, Co Binh Thuan showed remarkable genetic feature compared to the other VNPs, because the habitation of Co Binh Thuan was relatively far from the other breeds. The results of this study provided useful information for exploitation, conservation, and development trends of the VNP breeds. More recently, African swine fever caused significant damage to most of the VNP populations. Therefore, our findings will help a reconstruction scheme of the VNP genetic resources.

RESUMO

Enterococcus faecium strains are commonly resistant to vancomycin and ß-lactams. In addition, E. faecium often causes biofilm-associated infections and these infections are difficult to treat. In this context, we investigated the activity of dosing regimens using daptomycin (DAP) (8, 10, 12, and 14 mg/kg of body weight/day) alone and in combination with ceftaroline (CPT), ampicillin (AMP), ertapenem (ERT), and rifampin (RIF) against 2 clinical strains of biofilm-producing vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREfm), namely, strains S447 and HOU503, in an in vitro biofilm model. HOU503 harbors common LiaS and LiaR substitutions, whereas S447 lacks mutations associated with the LiaFSR pathway. MIC results demonstrated that both strains were susceptible to DAP and resistant to CPT, AMP, ERT, and RIF. The 168-h pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) CDC biofilm reactor models (simulating human antibiotic exposures) were used with titanium and polyurethane coupons to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic combinations. DAP 12 and 14 achieved bactericidal activity against S447 but lacked such effect against HOU503. Addition of ERT and RIF enhanced DAP activity, allowing DAP 8 and 10 plus ERT or RIF to produce bactericidal activity against both strains at 168 h. While DAP 8 and 10 plus CPT improved killing, they did not reach bactericidal reduction against S447. Combination of AMP, CPT, ERT, or RIF resulted in enhanced and bactericidal activity for DAP against HOU503 at 168 h. Our data provide further support for the use of combinations of DAP with AMP, ERT, CPT, and RIF in infections caused by biofilm producing VREfm. Further research involving DAP combinations against biofilm-producing enterococci is warranted.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the safety, feasibility and efficacy of trans-vaginal fractional micro-ablative CO2 laser therapy in combination with platelet rich plasma (PRP) for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women. STUDY DESIGN: Participants with SUI underwent three sessions of transvaginal CO2 laser and PRP treatment, administered at 4-6-week intervals. Outcomes were assessed using the bladder function section of the Australian Pelvic Floor Questionnaire (APFQ). The primary outcome was changes in the participants' symptoms of SUI. Secondary outcomes were related to general bladder function. Outcome differences from baseline (T1) to 3 months (T2) and 12 months (T3) were analysed using Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Subjective verbal scales were used to assess the degree of pain associated with PRP injections and laser treatment. RESULTS: Sixty-two women with SUI were enrolled into this study. There were 66% (41/62) of participants who reported improved SUI symptoms from T1 to T2 (p < 0.001) and at T3, 62% (23/37) of patients reported improved SUI symptoms (p < 0.001). From T1 to T2, all bladder function variables were improved significantly (p < 0.002). At T3, significant improvements (p < 0.03) were maintained for all bladder function variables, except pad usage (p = 0.073). CONCLUSIONS: Combining transvaginal fractional CO2 laser with PRP might be a beneficial treatment for SUI. It may have the potential to be a minimally-invasive and low-risk alternative to surgery, with reduced recovery time.

RESUMO

Of the more than 400 indigenous orchid species in Western Australia, Cryptostylis ovata is the only species that retains its leaves all year round. It exists as a terrestrial herb and occasionally as an epiphyte in forested areas. Like all terrestrial orchids, C. ovata plants associate with mycorrhizal fungi, but their identities have not previously been investigated. Fungi were isolated from pelotons in rhizomes collected from three southern and two northern populations of C. ovata on six occasions over two years. Phylogenetic analysis of ITS sequences temporally and spatially revealed that all the fungal isolates were of Tulasnella species of four distinct groups. One Tulasnella group was present only in the three southern orchid populations, and it closely resembled T. prima isolates previously described from Chiloglottis sp. orchids from eastern Australia. Isolates collected from plants in the two northern populations were of three undescribed Tulasnella groups. Analysis of intra-group diversity using inter-simple sequence repeat markers revealed that plants were usually colonised by a single genotype of Tulasnella at each sampling period, and this genotype usually, but not always, persisted with the host plant over both years tested.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) in Vietnamese among hospital nursing staff. METHODS: The 22-items version of the JCQ was used. This includes four scales: (a) psychological demands (5 items); (b) job control (9 items); (c) supervisor support (4 items); and (d) coworker support (4 items). All 1258 nurses in a general hospital in Vietnam, excluding 11 who were due to retire, were invited to complete the cross-sectional survey. The internal consistency reliability was estimated using Cronbach's α. Construct validity was examined using exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Convergent validity was evaluated by calculating correlations between the JCQ scores and DASS 21 and overtime work. RESULTS: In total, 949 (75%) of the 1258 eligible nurses completed the survey. Cronbach's α values demonstrated acceptable internal consistency in two scales (supervisor support α = .87; coworker support α = .86), while Cronbach's α was below the acceptable threshold of 0.70 for job control (α = .45) and job demand (α = .50). EFA assuming a four-factor structure showed a factor structure that was almost identical to the original JCQ, with two items loading on other scales. The subscales of depression, anxiety, and stress response of DASS 21 and the subscales of JCQ were significantly correlated, as expected. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the JCQ in Vietnamese can be used with some reliability and validity for examining psychosocial work environment among nurses. Further studies should be done to confirm and expand our findings in a variety of occupational groups and in other Asian low- and middle-income countries.
