RESUMO

To propel electronic skin (e-skin) to the next level by integrating artificial intelligence features with advanced sensory capabilities, it is imperative to develop stretchable memory device technology. A stretchable memory device for e-skin must offer, in particular, long-term data storage while ensuring the security of personal information under any type of deformation. However, despite the significance of these needs, technology related to stretchable memory devices remains in its infancy. Here, we report an intrinsically stretchable floating gate (FG) polymer memory transistor. The device features a dual-stimuli (optical and electrical) writing system to prevent easy erasure of recorded data. An FG comprising an intermixture of Ag nanoparticles and elastomer and with proper energy-band alignment between the semiconductor and dielectric facilitated sustainable memory performance, while achieving a high memory on/off ratio (>105) and a long retention time (106 s) with the ability to withstand 50% uniaxial or 30% biaxial strain. In addition, our memory transistor exhibited high mechanical durability over multiple stretching cycles (1000 times), along with excellent environmental stability with respect to factors such as temperature, moisture, air, and delamination. Finally, we fabricated a 7 × 7 active-matrix memory transistor array for personalized storage of e-skin data and successfully demonstrated its functionality.

RESUMO

The gradual loss of kidney function due to increasing age is accompanied by structural changes such as fibrosis of the tissue. The underlying molecular mechanisms are complex, but not yet fully understood. Non-fibrillar collagen type VIII (COL8) could be a potential factor in the fibrosis processes of the aging kidney. A pathophysiological significance of COL8 has already been demonstrated in the context of diabetic kidney disease, with studies showing that it directly influences both the development and progression of renal fibrosis occurring. The aim of this study was to investigate whether COL8 impacts age-related micro-anatomical and functional changes in a mouse model. The kidneys of wild-type (Col8-wt) and COL8-knockout (Col8-ko) mice of different age and sex were characterized with regard to the expression of molecular fibrosis markers, the development of nephrosclerosis and renal function. The age-dependent regulation of COL8 mRNA expression in the wild-type revealed sex-dependent effects that were not observed with collagen IV (COL4). Histochemical staining and protein analysis of profibrotic cytokines TGF-ß1 (transforming growth factor) and CTGF (connective tissue growth factor) in mouse kidneys showed significant age effects as well as interactions of the factors age, sex and Col8 genotype. There were also significant age and Col8 genotype effects in the renal function data analyzed by urinary cystatin C. In summary, the present study shows, for the first time, that COL8 is regulated in an age- and sex-dependent manner in the mouse kidney and that the expression of COL8 influences the severity of age-induced renal fibrosis and function.

RESUMO

Skin-like field-effect transistors are key elements of bio-integrated devices for future user-interactive electronic-skin applications. Despite recent rapid developments in skin-like stretchable transistors, imparting self-healing ability while maintaining necessary electrical performance to these transistors remains a challenge. Herein, we describe a stretchable polymer transistor capable of autonomous self-healing. The active material consists of a blend of an electrically insulating supramolecular polymer with either semiconducting polymers or vapor-deposited metal nanoclusters. A key feature is to employ the same supramolecular self-healing polymer matrix for all active layers, i.e., conductor/semiconductor/dielectric layers, in the skin-like transistor. This provides adhesion and intimate contact between layers, which facilitates effective charge injection and transport under strain after self-healing. Finally, we fabricate skin-like self-healing circuits, including NAND and NOR gates and inverters, both of which are critical components of arithmetic logic units. This work greatly advances practical self-healing skin electronics.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Vietnam continues to have measles and rubella outbreaks following supplementary immunization activities (SIA) and routine immunization despite both having high reported coverage. To evaluate immunization activities, age-specific immunity against measles and rubella, and the number of averted Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) cases, must be estimated. METHODS: Dried blood spots were collected from 2091 randomly selected individuals aged 1-39 years. Measles and rubella virus-specific immunoglobulin G (IgG) were measured by enzyme immunoassay. Results were considered positive at ≥120 mIU/mL for measles and ≥10 IU/mL for rubella. The number of CRS cases averted by immunization since 2014 were estimated using mathematical modelling. RESULTS: Overall IgG seroprevalence was 99.7% (95%CI: 99.2-99.9) for measles and 83.6% (95%CI: 79.3-87.1) for rubella. Rubella IgG seroprevalence was higher among age groups targeted in the SIA than in non-targeted young adults (95.4% [95%CI: 92.9-97.0] vs 72.4% [95%CI: 63.1-80.1]; P < 0.001). The estimated number of CRS cases averted in 2019 by immunization activities since 2014 ranged from 126 (95%CI: 0-460) to 883 (95%CI: 0-2271) depending on the assumed postvaccination reduction in the force of infection. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest the SIA was effective, while young adults born before 1998 who remain unprotected for rubella require further vaccination.

RESUMO

Inexpensive sodium sulfide trihydrate was found to promote unprecedented 6e-regio-predefined redox condensation of o-nitroanilines with α-tetralones to benzo[a]phenazines. The method was also successfully extended to acetophenones and higher homologs as reducing partners to provide 2-phenylquinoxalines. Compared to traditional approaches toward benzo[a]phenazine and quinoxaline cores starting with o-phenylenediamines, the present strategy could afford these heterocycles with well-defined regiochemistry based on the structure of starting o-nitroanilines.

RESUMO

The Araliaceae contain many valuable species in medicinal and industrial aspects. We performed intensive phylogenomics using the plastid genome (plastome) and 45S nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences. A total of 66 plastome sequences were used, 13 of which were newly assembled in this study, 12 from new sequences, and one from existing data. While Araliaceae plastomes showed conserved genome structure, phylogenetic reconstructions based on four different plastome datasets revealed phylogenetic discordance within the Asian Palmate group. The divergence time estimation revealed that splits in two Araliaceae subfamilies and the clades exhibiting phylogenetic discordances in the Asian Palmate group occurred at two climatic optima, suggesting that global warming events triggered species divergence, particularly the rapid diversification of the Asian Palmate group during the Middle Miocene. Nucleotide substitution analyses indicated that the Hydrocotyloideae plastomes have undergone accelerated AT-biased mutations (C-to-T transitions) compared with the Aralioideae plastomes, and the acceleration may occur in their mitochondrial and nuclear genomes as well. This implies that members of the genus Hydrocotyle, the only aquatic plants in the Araliaceae, have experienced a distinct evolutionary history from the other species. We also discussed the intercontinental disjunction in the genus Panax and proposed a hypothesis to complement the previously proposed hypothesis. Our results provide the evolutionary trajectory of Araliaceae and advance our current understanding of the evolution of Araliaceae species.

RESUMO

ETS variant transcription factor 6 (ETV6)-neurotrophic receptor tyrosine kinase 3 (NTRK3) (EN) fusions are typically found in rare diseases, such as primary renal fibrosarcoma (only six cases have been reported), secretory carcinoma of the breast and salivary gland (1 case), and AML (4 cases). Few cases have been reported, and expression of the EN gene fusion requires additional clinical data and fundamental research to be supported. The aim of the present study was to determine the inhibitory effect of Andrographis paniculata methanol extract (MeAP) on EN-related cell lines, IMS-M2 and BaF3/EN, as well as evaluate the mechanism of action. Vero cells were used as control cells. Trypan blue staining and MTT were used to evaluate the inhibitory effect of MeAP on tested cells. Western blotting and immunoprecipitation were used to detect the activation of EN after MeAP treatment. The IC50 values of MeAP were found to be 12.38±0.57 µg/ml (IMS-M2) and 13.06±0.49 µg/ml (BaF3/EN). MeAP was observed to inhibit cell proliferation in a time, dose, and cell density-dependent manner. The IC50 value for MeAP in Vero cells was markedly higher, at 109.97±4.24 (µg/ml), indicating a much less sensitive effect. Furthermore, MeAP treatment inhibited EN phosphorylation and induced apoptosis in these cells. Collectively, the present study demonstrated that MeAP has an oncogenic effect on EN fusion-positive cell lines, in particular.

RESUMO

The RNA polymerase II core promoter is the site of convergence of the signals that lead to the initiation of transcription. Here, we performed a comparative analysis of the downstream core promoter region (DPR) in Drosophila and humans by using machine learning. These studies revealed a distinct human-specific version of the DPR and led to the use of machine learning models for the identification of synthetic extreme DPR motifs with specificity for human transcription factors relative to Drosophila factors and vice versa. More generally, machine learning models could similarly be used to design synthetic DNA elements with customized functional properties.

RESUMO

Introduction: Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are a heterogeneous group of molecules with potential pathophysiological effects on the kidneys. Fibrosis together with the accumulation of AGEs has been investigated for its contribution to age-related decline in renal function. AGEs mediate their effects in large parts through their interactions with the receptor for AGEs (RAGE). RAGE is a transmembrane protein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and has the ability to interact with multiple pro-inflammatory/pro-oxidative ligands. The role of RAGE in aging kidneys has not been fully characterized, especially for sex-based differences. Methods: Therefore, we analyzed constitutive RAGE knockout (KO) mice in an age- and sex-dependent manner. Paraffin-embedded kidney sections were used for histological analysis and protein expression of fibrosis and damage markers. RNA expression analysis from the kidney cortex was done by qPCR for AGE receptors, kidney damage, and early inflammation/fibrosis factors. FACS analysis was used for immune cell profiling of the kidneys. Results: Histological analysis revealed enhanced infiltration of immune cells (positive for B220) in aged (>70 weeks old) KO mice in both sexes. FACS analysis revealed a similar pattern of enhanced B-1a cells in aged KO mice. There was an age-based increase in pro-fibrotic and pro-inflammatory markers (IL-6, TNF, TGF-ß1, and SNAIL1) in KO male mice that presumably contributed to renal fibrosis and renal damage (glomerular and tubular). In fact, in KO mice, there was an age-dependent increase in renal damage (assessed by NGAL and KIM1) that was accompanied by increased fibrosis (assessed by CTGF). This effect was more pronounced in male KO mice than in the female KO mice. In contrast to the KO animals, no significant increase in damage markers was detectable in wild-type animals at the age examined (>70 weeks old). Moreover, there is an age-based increase in AGEs and scavenger receptor MSR-A2 in the kidneys. Discussion: Our data suggest that the loss of the clearance receptor RAGE in male animals further accelerates age-dependent renal damage; this could be in part due to an increase in AGEs load during aging and the absence of protective female hormones. By contrast, in females, RAGE expression seems to play only a minor role when compared to tissue pathology.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Following the 2005 decree on securing the medicine supply chain, the production of "chemotherapies", anticancer drugs (cytotoxic, cytostatic, immunotherapy), was centralised within hospital pharmacies. To cope with increasingly growing activities, pharmacies are moving towards robotisation. This work offers feedback from four French sites pioneers in robotic production. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A review of the literature was carried out on the PubMed and Google Scholar scientific databases and GERPAC publications relating to the robotic production of chemotherapy preparations. This review allowed to select 25 articles. RESULTS: The robotisation of the production of "chemotherapies" requires infrastructural prerequisites, a reengineering of the manufacturing process and the patient journey. This impacts all the parties involved in this complex process. The "cobotisation" concept or collaborative robotics must be anticipated by the teams. Robotisation is an institutional decision, which must be owned by the pharmaceutical team and endorsed by the medical team and management. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: For reasons of optimisation, safeguarding and management of human resources, a large number of centres get equipped with robotic systems. Robotic preparation should extend to other non-hazardous preparation, as it is already the case in other countries. This strategic view should be carried out today to anticipate problems, ensure safety and improve the healthcare quality.

RESUMO

Objectives: The lack of cognitive assessment tools suitable for people with minimal formal education is a barrier to identify cognitive impairment in Vietnam. Our aims were to (i) evaluate the feasibility of conducting the Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Basic (MoCA-B) and Informant Questionnaire On Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (IQCODE) remotely on the Vietnamese older adults, (ii) examine the association between the two tests, (iii) identify demographic factors correlated with these tools. Methods: The MoCA-B was adapted from the original English version, and a remote testing procedure was conducted. One hundred seventy-three participants aged 60 and above living in the Vietnamese southern provinces were recruited via an online platform during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: IQCODE results showed that the proportions of rural participants classified as having mild cognitive impairment and dementia were substantially higher than those in urban areas. Levels of education and living areas were associated with IQCODE scores. Education attainment was also the main predictor of MoCA-B scores (30% of variance explained), with an average of 10.5 points difference between those with no formal education and those who attended university. Conclusions: It is feasible to administer the IQCODE and MoCA-B remotely in the Vietnamese older population. Education attainment played a stronger role in predicting MoCA-B scores than IQCODE, suggesting the influence of this factor on MoCA-B scores. Further study is needed to develop socio-culturally appropriate cognitive screening tests for the Vietnamese population.

RESUMO

Background: The genus Panax in the Araliaceae family has been used as traditional medicinal plants worldwide and is known to biosynthesize ginsenosides and phytosterols. However, genetic variation between Panax species has influenced their biosynthetic pathways is not fully understood. Methods: Simultaneous analysis of transcriptomes and metabolomes obtained from adventitious roots of two tetraploid species (Panax ginseng and P. quinquefolius) and two diploid species (P. notoginseng and P. vietnamensis) revealed the diversity of their metabolites and related gene expression profiles. Results: The transcriptome analysis showed that 2,3-OXIDOSQUALENE CYCLASEs (OSCs) involved in phytosterol biosynthesis are upregulated in the diploid species, while the expression of OSCs contributing to ginsenoside biosynthesis is higher in the tetraploid species. In agreement with these results, the contents of dammarenediol-type ginsenosides were higher in the tetraploid species relative to the diploid species. Conclusion: These results suggest that a whole-genome duplication event has influenced the triterpene biosynthesis pathway in tetraploid Panax species during their evolution or ecological adaptation. This study provides a basis for further efforts to explore the genetic variation of the Panax genus.

RESUMO

MOTIVATION: Intragenic exonic deletions are known to contribute to genetic diseases and are often flanked by regions of homology. RESULTS: In order to get a more clear view of these interspersed repeats encompassing a coding sequence, we have developed EDIR (Exome Database of Interspersed Repeats) which contains the positions of these structures within the human exome. EDIR has been calculated by an inductive strategy, rather than by a brute force approach and can be queried through an R/Bioconductor package or a web interface allowing the per-gene rapid extraction of homology-flanked sequences throughout the exome. AVAILABILITY AND IMPLEMENTATION: The code used to compile EDIR can be found at https://github.com/lauravongoc/EDIR. The full dataset of EDIR can be queried via an Rshiny application at http://193.70.34.71:3857/edir/. The R package for querying EDIR is called 'EDIRquery' and is available on Bioconductor. The full EDIR dataset can be downloaded from https://osf.io/m3gvx/ or http://193.70.34.71/EDIR.tar.gz. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Supplementary data are available at Bioinformatics online.

RESUMO

The research into and production of hematological reference samples used to implement an external quality assessment (EQA) to check the quality of hematology tests are necessary for hematology laboratories in Vietnam. In this research, the study team determined the assessment values of blood cell count (human RBCs, pseudo-leucocytes, and pseudo-platelets) by the impedance method used in hematology EQA programs. The hematological reference samples were controlled at three concentration levels: low, normal, and high. Determination of the assigned value (mean ± 2SD) was performed for the following hematology analyzer series by impedance method: ABX Micros 60, Celldyn 1700, and Mindray BC 2000. Each device was sent to 10 different laboratories for evaluation. Research results for assigned values of each model (ABX Micros 60, Celldyn 1700, and Mindray BC 2000) were determined at the three concentrations. For the ABX Micros 60 and Celldyn 1700 series, 80% of laboratories had analytical results within assigned values. For the Mindray BC 2000 series, 100% of laboratories had analytical results within assigned values. The measurement results for the number of human RBCs, pseudo-leucocytes, and pseudo-platelets on each analyzer were similar between the 10 laboratories; the results of the three hematology analyzer series using the impedance method were different and the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Thus, hematological reference samples for measuring the number of blood cells meeting the standards so that they can evaluate the results of laboratories using the impedance method: ABX, Celldyn 1700, Mindray BC 2000.

RESUMO

Despite recent remarkable advances in stretchable organic thin-film field-effect transistors (OTFTs), the development of stretchable metallization remains a challenge. Here, we report a highly stretchable and robust metallization on an elastomeric semiconductor film based on metal-elastic semiconductor intermixing. We found that vaporized silver (Ag) atom with higher diffusivity than other noble metals (Au and Cu) forms a continuous intermixing layer during thermal evaporation, enabling highly stretchable metallization. The Ag metallization maintains a high conductivity (>104 S/cm) even under 100% strain and successfully preserves its conductivity without delamination even after 10,000 stretching cycles at 100% strain and several adhesive tape tests. Moreover, a native silver oxide layer formed on the intermixed Ag clusters facilitates efficient hole injection into the elastomeric semiconductor, which transcends previously reported stretchable source and drain electrodes for OTFTs.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: A conflicting body of evidence suggests localized periodontal inflammation spreads systemically during pregnancy inducing adverse pregnancy outcomes. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to specifically evaluate the relationship between periodontitis and preeclampsia. METHODS: Electronic searches were carried out in Medline, Pubmed, Embase, Lilacs, Cochrane Controlled Clinical Trial Register, CINAHL, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Google Scholar with no restrictions on the year of publication. We identified and selected observational case-control and cohort studies that analyzed the association between periodontal disease and preeclampsia. This meta-analysis was conducted following the PRISMA checklist and MOOSE checklist. Pooled odds ratios, mean difference, and 95% confidence intervals were calculated using the random effect model. Heterogeneity was tested with Cochran's Q statistic. RESULTS: Thirty studies including six cohort- and twenty-four case-control studies were selected. Periodontitis was significantly associated with increased risk for preeclampsia (OR 3.18, 95% CI 2.26 - 4.48, p < 0.00001), especially in a subgroup analysis including cohort studies (OR 4.19, 95% CI 2.23 - 7.87, p < 0.00001). The association was even stronger in a subgroup analysis with lower-middle-income countries (OR 6.70, 95% CI 2.61 - 17.19, p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: Periodontitis appears as a significant risk factor for preeclampsia, which might be even more pronounced in lower-middle-income countries. Future studies to investigate if maternal amelioration of periodontitis prevents preeclampsia might be warranted.

RESUMO

Left ventricular (LV) myocardial work (LVMW) indexes have shown incremental value over LV ejection fraction and were found to have prognostic significance in patients with secondary mitral regurgitation. We therefore aimed to investigate the association between LVMW indexes and forward flow reserve in patients with secondary mitral regurgitation, treated with transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER). LVMW indexes were evaluated at baseline and forward stroke volume index (FSVI) was evaluated at baseline and 6-month follow-up after TEER. Patients were divided in 2 groups: improvers (improvement in FSVI ≥20%) and nonimprovers (improvement in FSVI <20%). A total of 70 patients (median age 76 years, 59% men) were included. FSVI was the only echocardiographic parameter that improved after TEER. There was a significant decrease in LV global longitudinal strain in the nonimprovers (p = 0.002) but not in the improvers (p = 0.177). Global work index and global constructive work worsened in nonimprovers (p = 0.005 and p = 0.004, respectively), whereas no difference was seen in these indexes in improvers (p = 0.093 and p = 0.112, respectively). Global work efficiency remained independently associated with forward flow reserve after adjusting for a variety of potential confounders. In conclusion, FSVI nonimprovers demonstrated worsening of LV systolic function after TEER compared with improvers, in whom LV systolic function remained stable. Global work efficiency was associated with FSVI improvement after TEER, independent of LV systolic function.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Daily more than 3,000 children are injured or killed on the road, often along the school route. Road traffic crashes and resulting injuries are preventable. More can be done to reduce injuries and save lives. Traffic Conflict Techniques (TCTs) are simple methods of collecting observational data to evaluate the effectiveness of road safety interventions through counting and analyzing traffic conflicts. A TCT Toolkit was developed and piloted to analyze pedestrian-vehicle traffic conflicts in school zones in low- and middle-income countries. METHODS: Three non-governmental organizations in Ghana, Vietnam, and Mexico applied three TCTs from the TCT Toolkit to collect traffic conflict data before (pre-intervention) and after (post-intervention) road safety intervention implementation. As the number of traffic conflicts was often less than 100, confidence intervals (CIs) based on gamma distributions were calculated for the traffic conflict rate. Using the calculated traffic conflict rate, the difference between pre- and post-intervention rates was assessed by determining overlap of the CIs. When CIs did not overlap, the difference was said to be statistically significant at the 0.05 level. RESULTS: For each method, results indicated a decrease in traffic conflicts between pre- and post-intervention data collection periods. Pre- and post-intervention traffic conflict rates with non-overlapping CIs demonstrated the results were statistically significant, providing evidence that the road safety interventions were effective. CONCLUSIONS: TCTs are relatively low-cost and simple techniques that provide an opportunity to base road safety improvement decisions on real-world data. TCTs are effective in objectively evaluating road safety interventions and can help decision-makers evaluate strategies for improving road safety, preventing injuries and saving lives.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To compare the association between waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), body mass index (BMI), and percentage of body fat (PBF) measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) method in children and adolescents of Vietnam. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 153 children and adolescents aged 6-18 y old in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Correlations between indicators were determined using Pearson correlation coefficient (r). Linear regression was carried out with PBF as dependent variable to test the further association of potential indicators. RESULTS: The strongest correlation was found between PBF and WHtR in all pubertal stages (0.712; 0.556; 0.638 in male; 0.635; 0.799; 0.611 in female, respectively). The regression analysis indicated that WHtR was the most effective estimator of PBF ([Formula: see text] = 0.69, RMSE = 4.54 for male; [Formula: see text] = 0.50, RMSE = 4.34 for female) in the model including pubertal stage variable for each gender. RESUMO

Administrative staff at healthcare facilities, who are not either doctors or nurses, coordinate, facilitate patient care, and account for 18-20% of human resources in hospitals. Their contribution to the value chain of healthcare service is crucial, but they are not well recognized either by hospital managers and healthcare staff or by patients. Low recognition may cause low job motivation and repeated tasks may cause boredom for them. Our study aimed to assess the level of job motivation among administrative staff in 2 hospitals of Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, and explore the influencing factors to job motivation. The exploratory mixed methods design was used in our study with an initial quantitative study with a designed questionnaire and then followed by a qualitative study with focus group discussions. The job motivation index of the administrative staff in our study was not high (4.0). Positive factors were extra income, higher education, healthcare benefits, and a good working environment. Negative factors were low salary index, less chance of higher education, and no separated key performance indicator criteria. The low job motivation index of the administrative staff at public hospitals in our study warns of the negative impact on hospital income in terms of patient satisfaction. In the future, hospitals should have a new strategy in human resource management specifically for administrative staff by maintaining the positive factors and step-by-step overcome the negative factors such as developing separated key performance indicator criteria.
