RESUMO

The sol-gel process for fabricating electrochromic thin films is straightforward, offering advantages such as low cost and ease of compositional control. Herein we prepared GO-Bi-WO3 films with improved electrochromic performance using a simple sol-gel spin-coating method. The sample shows a fast-switching time (1.8 s for coloring and 1.8 s for bleaching), large optical modulation (85% at 630 nm), excellent stability (86.4% retention after 10 200 cycles), and high coloration efficiency (65.9 cm2 C-1). This work indicates the electrochromic performance of WO3-based films can be enhanced by incorporating GO, which provides an effective strategy for the rapid, safe, and efficient fabrication of electrochromic thin films.

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) poses an important public health concern worldwide, with few therapeutic options available. Cornuside, a primary cornel iridoid glycoside present in Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc., is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine that possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties. However, the effects of cornuside on autoimmune diseases including AIH is still not defined, neither is clear on the mechanisms of cornuside in the suppression of inflammatory responses. PURPOSE: The study was aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of cornuside on AIH using murine models. STUDY DESIGN: A murine model of AIH induced by concanavalin A (Con A) was used to examine the pharmacological activity of cornuside in suppressing the inflammatory responses in vivo. METHODS: C57BL/6J mice were intravenously with different doses of cornuside and challenged with 18 mg/kg Con A 3 h later. Network pharmacological analysis was performed to identify the potential target genes and signaling pathways by cornuside in AIH. Next serum and liver tissues were collected 12 h after Con A injection to analyze the levels of markers for hepatic injury, apoptosis, oxidative stress, immune responses, and inflammation. RESULTS: Network pharmacological analysis revealed that cornuside may modulate oxidative stress and apoptosis in AIH. Compared with the Con A group, cornuside pretreatment significantly reduced the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase, improving histopathological damage and apoptosis in the livers. In addition, cornuside decreased the levels of malondialdehyde, myeloperoxidase, but increased superoxide dismutase levels, suggesting the relieving of oxidative stress. Furthermore, cornuside suppressed the activation of T and natural killer T cells, whereas the proportion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells was significantly increased. The production of proinflammatory cytokines, including interleukin (IL)-6, IL-12, IL-1ß, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), was also clearly decreased. Finally, western blot analysis displayed that cornuside inhibited the phosphorylation of extracellular receptor kinase (ERK) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK). CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that cornuside has protective effects for Con A-induced immune-mediated hepatitis by suppressing the oxidative stress, apoptosis, and the inflammatory responses through the ERK and JNK signaling pathways, as well as by modulating the activation and recruitment of immune cells.

Understanding the ultrafine substructure in freshly formed Fe-C martensite is the key point to reveal the real martensitic transformation mechanism. As-quenched martensite, whose transformation temperature is close to room temperature, has been investigated in detail by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in this study. The observation results revealed that the freshly formed martensite after quenching is actually composed of ultrafine crystallites with a grain size of 1−2 nm. The present observation result matches well with the suggestion based on X-ray studies carried out one hundred years ago. Such nanocrystals are distributed throughout the entire martensite. The whole martensite shows a uniform contrast under both bright and dark field observation modes, irrespective of what observation directions are chosen. No defect contrast can be observed inside each nanocrystal. However, a body-centered cubic {112}<111>-type twinning relationship exists among the ultrafine α-Fe grains. Such ultrafine α-Fe grains or crystallites are the root cause of the fine microstructure formed in martensitic steels and high hardness after martensitic transformation. The formation mechanism of the ultrafine α-Fe grains in the freshly formed martensite will be discussed based on a new γ → α phase transformation mechanism.

Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) is a free amino acid found abundantly in mammalian tissues. Increasing evidence suggests that taurine plays a role in the maintenance of skeletal muscle function and increase of exercise capacity. Most energy drinks contain this amino acid; however, there is insufficient research on the effects of long-term, low-dose supplementation of taurine. In this study, we investigated the effects of long-term administration of taurine at low doses on aging in rodents. In Experiment 1, we examined age-related changes in aging Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats (32-92 weeks old) that O2 consumption and spontaneous activity decreased significantly with aging. In Experiment 2, we examined the effects of long-term (21-week) administration of taurine on healthy aging SD rats. SD rats were stabilized for 32-34 weeks and divided into three groups, administrated water (control), 0.5% taurine (25 mg/kg  body weight (BW)/day), or 1% taurine (50 mg/kg  BW/day) from age 34 to 56 weeks (5 days/week, 5 mL/kg BW). Our findings suggest that long-term administration of taurine at relatively low dose could attenuate the age-related decline in O2 consumption and spontaneous locomotor activity. Upon intestinal absorption, taurine might modulate age-related changes in respiratory metabolism and skeletal muscle function via peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), cytochrome c (Cycs), myocyte enhancer factor 2A (MEF2A), glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4), and myoglobin, which are regulated by the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). This article examines the mechanism underlying the effects of taurine on age-related changes, which may have potential clinical implications.

We report a novel synthesis of monodisperse samples of copper telluride with crystallinity and stoichiometry corresponding to forms of rickardite, Cu3-x Te2 (x < 1). This synthesis makes use of a ligand balanced reaction to allow control over shape and size by varying the relative and absolute concentration of oleylamine to stearic acid. The rickardite samples presented here display size dependent plasmon peaks in the near infrared and direct energy band gaps between 1.7 and 2.3 eV. As such they may find utility in photovoltaic, thermoelectric or as novel optical materials for study of surface plasmons.

RESUMO

We report on the synthesis of CuInTe2 nanoparticles and their function in photovoltaic equipment, such as solar cells. Under certain synthesis conditions, the CuInTe2 nanocrystals form shape with nanocrystals, nanorods or nanocubes. It was found that CuTe nanocrystals could be converted to CuInTe2 by addition of an In reactant. CuInTe2 nanorods were synthesized using this method.

CuIn x Ga1-x Se2 (CIGS) nanowires were synthesized for the first time through an in situ cation exchange reaction by using CuInSe2 (CIS) nanowires as a template material and Ga-OLA complexes as the Ga source. These CIGS nanowires maintain nearly the same morphology as CIS nanowires, and the Ga/In ratio can be controlled through adjusting the concentration of Ga-OLA complexes. The characteristics of adjustable band gap and highly effective light-absorbances have been achieved for these CIGS nanowires. The light-absorbing layer in photovoltaic devices (PVs) can be assembled by employing CIGS nanowires as a solar-energy material for enhancing the photovoltaic response. The highest power conversion efficiency of solar thin film semiconductors is more than 20%, achieved by the Cu(In x Ga1-x )Se2 (CIGS) thin-film solar cells. Therefore, these CIGS nanowires have a great potential to be utilized as light absorber materials for high efficiency single nanowire solar cells and to generate bulk heterojunction devices.
