RESUMO

A high-fructose diet (HFrD) has been reported to exacerbate dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis. 2'-Fucosyllactose (FL) and galactooligosaccharide (GOS) have been shown, respectively, to have preventive and ameliorative effects on colitis, while limited research has explored whether GOS and FL may be equally protective or preventive in mice with HFrD. Here, we evaluated the protective effects of FL and GOS on colitis exacerbated by feeding HFrD and explored the underlying mechanisms. DSS-induced colitis was studied in four randomized C57BL/6J male mice (n = 8 mice/group). Among them, three groups were fed with HFrD, and two received either GOS or FL treatment, respectively. Gut microbial composition was analyzed by 16S rDNA gene sequencing. Intestinal barrier integrity and inflammatory pathway expression were measured using qPCR, immunofluorescence, and Western blot methods. Compared to the HFrD group, GOS or FL treatment increased the α-diversity of the gut microbiota, reduced the relative abundance of Akkermansia, and increased the content of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), respectively. Compared with the HFrD group, GOS or FL treatment improved the loss of goblet cells and the reduction of tight junction protein expression, thereby improving intestinal barrier integrity. Also, GOS or FL inhibited the LPS/TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway and oxidative stress to suppress the inflammatory cascade compared with the HFrD group. These findings suggest that GOS or FL intake can alleviate HFrD-exacerbated colitis, with no significant difference observed between GOS and FL treatments.

RESUMO

Oxygen reduction electrocatalysts play important roles in metal-air batteries. Herein, Fe3C-TiN heterostructural quantum dots loaded on carbon nanotubes (FCTN@CNTs) are prepared as electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) through a one-pot pyrolysis. The Fe3C-TiN quantum dots with a diameter of 2-5 nm show the unique characteristic of heterostructural interface. The as-prepared FCTN@CNTs display Pt/C comparable ORR performance (Eonset 1.06 and E1/2 0.95 V) in alkaline medium, which is ascribed to the heterostructural interface between TiN and Fe3C. Furthermore, the Al-air batteries with the FCTN@CNT catalyst display superior discharge performance, demonstrating good feasibility for practical application. This work provides an effective new method to synthesize affordable and efficient oxygen reduction reaction catalysts.

RESUMO

In this study, we present the complete mitogenome and a phylogenetic analysis of Chelidonichthys spinosus characterized using Illumina next-generation and Pacific Biosciences (PacBio, Menlo Park, CA) sequencing technologies. The complete mitochondrial genome is a circular molecule 16,511 bp in length and contains the same set of 37 mitochondrial genes (13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA)), and a control region as other bony fishes. The base composition of the entire mitogenome showed a slight AT bias. Phylogenetic analysis of the mitogenome of C. spinosus fully resolved it in a clade with other species classified to the Triglidae. The mitogenome data produced in this study provide the genomic resources available for future evolutionary studies.

RESUMO

In this study, we present the complete mitogenome and a phylogenetic analysis of Muraenesox cinereus determined by long PCR and primer walking methods. The complete mitochondrial genome is a circular molecule of 17,987 bp in length and contains the same set of 37 mitochondrial genes [13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA), and 22 transfer RNA (tRNA)], and a control region as other bony fishes. The base composition of the entire mitogenome showed a slight excess of AT bias. The entire mitogenome data produced in this study provides the genomic resources available for future evolutionary studies.

RESUMO

The iron oxide-based anode materials are widely studied and reported due to their abundance, low cost, high energy density and environmental friendliness for lithium ion batteries (LIBs). However, the application of LIBs is always limited by the poor rate capability and stability. In order to tackle these issues, a novel material with carbon-encapsulated Fe3O4 nanorods stuck together by multilevel porous carbon (Fe3O4@C/PC) is prepared through directly carbonizing the Fe-based metal-organic framework under a nitrogen atmosphere. This novel material shows a high specific capacity and rate performance. The initial specific capacity can reach 1789 mAh g-1 at a current density of 0.1 A g-1, and the specific capacity still remains 1105.3 mAh g-1 and 783.5 mAh g-1 after 150 cycles at the current densities of 0.1 A g-1 and 1 A g-1, respectively. Even under a current density as high as 12 A g-1, the specific capacity can achieve 309 mAh g-1 after 2000 cycles with an average attenuation rate of 0.019% per cycle. Overall, the simple strategy, low cost and high capacity can make the practical application possible.
