With the proliferation of the consumer's awareness of wine provenance, wines with unique origin characteristics are increasingly in demand. This study aimed to investigate the influence of geographical origins and climatological characteristics on grapes and wines. A total of 94 anthocyanins and 78 non-anthocyanin phenolic compounds in grapes and wines from five Chinese viticultural vineyards (CJ, WH, QTX, WW, and XY) were identified by UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS. Chemometric methods PCA and OPLS-DA were established to select candidate differential metabolites, including flavonols, stilbenes, hydroxycinnamic acids, peonidin derivatives, and malvidin derivatives. CCA showed that malvidin-3-O-glucoside had a positive correlation with mean temperature, and quercetin-3-O-glucoside had a negative correlation with precipitation. In addition, enrichment analysis elucidated that the metabolic diversity in different origins mainly occurred in flavonoid biosynthesis. This study would provide some new insights to understand the effect of geographical origins and climatological characteristics on phenolic compounds in grapes and wines.

Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by insulin resistance and progressively impaired insulin secretion resulting in dynamic fluctuations in glucose levels.High blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels have been linked to decreased insulin sensitivity, suppressed insulin synthesis and increased risk of incident diabetes mellitus in humans as well as insulin use in patients with T2DM.This study characterize the association between BUN levels and short-term and long-term glycemic variability(GV) in the elderly patients with T2DM who were hospitalized. Methods: A total of 927 elderly patients with T2DM were included in the study. The short-term GV was quantified using parameters such as standard deviation (SD), coefficient of variation (CV), time in range (TIR), and mean amplitude of glycemic excursions (MAGE), based on multi-point fingertip blood glucose monitoring. The long-term GV was quantified using parameters such as SD, CV, variation independent of the mean (VIM), and average successive variability (ARV), based on fasting blood glucose(FPG). The relationship between BUN levels and short-term and long-term GV in elderly T2DM who were hospitalized was explored using methods such as Spearman correlation coefficient, linear regression analysis, logistic regression analysis, and interaction tests. Results: In elderly patients with T2DM were hospitalized, there is a significant correlation between BUN levels and both short-term and long-term GV. BUN is negatively correlated with the GV parameter TIR (r=-0.12, P=0.000), and positively correlated with SD (r=0.12, P=0.000), CV (r=0.07, P=0.026), MAGE (r=0.11, P=0.001), FPG-SD (r=0.08, P=0.013), and FPG-CV (r=0.08, P=0.014).Furthermore, the association remains consistent across different age, gender, BMI, and haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) subgroups (P interaction > 0.05). Conclusion: In elderly patients with T2DM were hospitalized, BUN levels were positively associated with GV.Therefore, monitoring BUN levels were beneficial in assessing the degree of GV.

Background: The thyroid gland exhibits a subtle interconnection with the lungs. We further investigated the correlation between thyroid hormone sensitivity and lung function in euthyroid individuals. Methods: Data on spirometry and mortality for participants aged 19-79 years were extracted from the NHANES database. Obstructive lung function was defined as a forced expiratory volume in 1 s to forced vital capacity ratio (FEV1/FVC) < 0.70, while restrictive lung function was considered when FEV1/FVC ≥0.70 and baseline FVC <80 % predicted. Central and peripheral sensitivities to thyroid hormones were mainly evaluated by Thyroid Feedback Quantile-based Index (TFQI) and Free Triiodothyronine/Free thyroxine (FT3/FT4) ratio. Logistic regression and subgroup analysis were used to examine potential associations between thyroid hormone sensitivity and lung function. The association between TFQI and all-cause mortality risk was also investigated. Results: A total of 6539 participants were analyzed, 900 with obstructive lung function and 407 with restrictive lung function. The prevalence of impaired lung function, both obstructive and restrictive, increased with higher TFQI levels. Logistic regression analysis showed that increased TFQI and decreased FT3/FT4 levels were independent risk factors for obstructive and restrictive lung function (P < 0.05). After adjusting for the impact of lung function, TFQI (HR = 1.25, 95 % CI 1.00-1.56, P = 0.048) was an independent risk factor for all-cause mortality. Conclusion: Reduced sensitivity to thyroid hormones has been linked to impaired lung function. TFQI and FT3/FT4 are potential epidemiological tools to quantify the role of central and peripheral thyroid resistance in lung function.

Omega-3 fatty acids are indispensable and crucial nutrients that are pivotal in promoting cardiovascular well-being, enhancing cognitive function, and regulating the body's inflammatory response. This study employed bibliometric analysis to investigate the progression of omega-3 fatty acids research. We used the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) to find articles about omega-3 fatty acids published from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2023. The bibliometric analysis and visualization were conducted using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. This analysis contained a total of 18,764 articles that were focused on omega-3 fatty acids. Among these articles, the nations with the highest number of publications were the United States, China, and Spain. The United States held the greatest influence. The journal Nutrients had the most publications related to this search. Upon analyzing the highly referenced literature, we discovered there is ongoing debate on the potential benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids for illnesses. Moreover, the time-overlapping network analysis of keywords finds investigating the impact of omega-3 fatty acids dietary supplementation on gut microbiota is a promising area of future research. Ultimately, bibliometrics could help researchers comprehend the trajectory of development, noticeable topics, and scholarly impact within omega-3 fatty acids linked domains, thereby offering substantial backing for future investigations of greater depth.

Purpose: Obesity, particularly abdominal obesity, is seen as a risk factor for diabetic complications. The weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI) is a recently developed index for measuring adiposity. Our goal was to uncover the potential correlation between the WWI index and diabetic kidney disease (DKD) risk. Methods: This cross-sectional study included adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who participated in the NHANES database (2007-2018). The WWI index was calculated as waist circumference (WC, cm) divided by the square root of weight (kg). DKD was diagnosed based on impaired estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR<60 mL/min/1.73m2), albuminuria (urinary albumin to urinary creatinine ratio>30 mg/g), or both in T2DM patients. The independent relationship between WWI index and DKD risk was evaluated. Results: A total of 5,028 participants with T2DM were included, with an average WWI index of 11.61 ± 0.02. As the quartile range of the WWI index increased, the prevalence of DKD gradually increased (26.76% vs. 32.63% vs. 39.06% vs. 42.96%, P<0.001). After adjusting for various confounding factors, the WWI index was independently associated with DKD risk (OR=1.32, 95%CI:1.12-1.56, P<0.001). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of the WWI index was higher than that of body mass index (BMI, kg/m2) and WC. Subgroup analysis suggested that the relationship between the WWI index and DKD risk was of greater concern in patients over 60 years old and those with cardiovascular disease. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that higher WWI levels are linked to DKD in T2DM patients. The WWI index could be a cost-effective and simple way to detect DKD, but further prospective studies are needed to confirm this.

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) have been regarded as one of the most promising next-generation high-energy-density storage devices. However, uncontrolled lithium dendrite growth leads to low Coulombic efficiencies and severe safety issues, hindering the commercialization of LMBs. Reducing the diffusion barrier of lithium is beneficial for uniform lithium deposition. Herein, a composite is constructed with Li4Ti5O12 as the skeleton of metallic lithium (Li@LixTi5O12) because Li4Ti5O12 is a "zero-strain" material and exhibits a low lithium diffusion barrier. It was found that the symmetric cells of Li@LixTi5O12 can stably cycle for over 400 h at 1 mA cm-2 in the carbonate electrolyte, significantly exceeding the usual lifespan (∼170 h) of the symmetric cell using a lithium metal electrode. In a full cell with Li@LixTi5O12 as the anode, the cathode LiFePO4 delivers a capacity retention of 78.2% after 550 cycles at 3.6C rate and an N/P ratio = 8.0. This study provides new insights for designing a practical lithium anode.

Facing a 40% mortality rate in candidemia patients, drug-resistant Candida and their petite mutants remain a major treatment challenge. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) targets multiple fungal structures, unlike antibiotics/antifungals, potentially thwarting resistance. Traditional methods for inducing petite colonies rely on ethidium bromide or fluconazole, which can influence drug susceptibility and stress responses. This study investigated the application of green light (peak 520 nm) and rose bengal (RB) photosensitizer to combat a drug-resistant Candida glabrata isolate. The findings revealed that aPDT treatment significantly inhibited cell growth (≥99.9% reduction) and effectively induced petite colony formation, as evidenced by reduced size and loss of mitochondrial redox indicator staining. This study provides initial evidence that aPDT can induce petite colonies in a multidrug-resistant C. glabrata strain in vitro, offering a potentially transformative approach for combating resistant fungal infections.

Remnant cholesterol (RC) is closely related to metabolic diseases. Our study aims to explore the relationship between RC and hyperuricemia. This cross-sectional study included 14 568 adults aged 20 years or older from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2007 and 2018 in the United States. RC is calculated by subtracting high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) from total cholesterol (TC). Hyperuricemia is defined by serum uric acid (SUA) levels≥7 mg/dl in men and≥6 mg/dl in women. The independent association between RC and hyperuricemia was evaluated. As the quartile range of RC levels increases, the prevalence of hyperuricemia also rises (7.84% vs. 13.71% vs. 18.61% vs. 26.24%, p<0.001). After adjusting for confounding factors, the fourth quartile of RC was associated with an increased risk of hyperuricemia compared with the first quartile (OR=2.942, 95% CI 2.473-3.502, p<0.001). Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis shows that RC outperforms other single lipid indices in hyperuricemia. Further Restricted Cubic Splines (RCS) analysis suggests a nonlinear relationship between RC levels and hyperuricemia. Elevated RC levels were found to be linked to hyperuricemia. Further studies on RC hold promise for both preventing and addressing hyperuricemia.

Objective. The development of electrical pulse stimulations in brain, including deep brain stimulation, is promising for treating various brain diseases. However, the mechanisms of brain stimulations are not yet fully understood. Previous studies have shown that the commonly used high-frequency stimulation (HFS) can increase the firing of neurons and modulate the pattern of neuronal firing. Because the generation of neuronal firing in brain is a nonlinear process, investigating the characteristics of nonlinear dynamics induced by HFS could be helpful to reveal more mechanisms of brain stimulations. The aim of present study is to investigate the fractal properties in the neuronal firing generated by HFS.Approach. HFS pulse sequences with a constant frequency 100 Hz were applied in the afferent fiber tracts of rat hippocampal CA1 region. Unit spikes of both the pyramidal cells and the interneurons in the downstream area of stimulations were recorded. Two fractal indexes-the Fano factor and Hurst exponent were calculated to evaluate the changes of long-range temporal correlations (LRTCs), a typical characteristic of fractal process, in spike sequences of neuronal firing.Mainresults. Neuronal firing at both baseline and during HFS exhibited LRTCs over multiple time scales. In addition, the LRTCs significantly increased during HFS, which was confirmed by simulation data of both randomly shuffled sequences and surrogate sequences.Conclusion. The purely periodic stimulation of HFS pulses, a non-fractal process without LRTCs, can increase rather than decrease the LRTCs in neuronal firing.Significance. The finding provides new nonlinear mechanisms of brain stimulation and suggests that LRTCs could be a new biomarker to evaluate the nonlinear effects of HFS.

Glioma is typically characterized by a poor prognosis and is associated with a decline in the quality of life as the disease advances. However, the development of effective therapies for glioma has been inadequate. Caveolin-1 (CAV-1) is a membrane protein that plays a role in caveolae formation and interacts with numerous signaling proteins, compartmentalizing them in caveolae and frequently exerting direct control over their activity through binding to its scaffolding domain. Although CAV-1 is a vital regulator of tumour progression, its role in glioma remains unclear. Our findings indicated that the knockdown of CAV-1 significantly inhibits the proliferation and metastasis of glioma. Subsequent mechanistic investigations demonstrated that CAV-1 promotes proliferation and metastasis by activating the photoshatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/Akt) signaling pathway. Furthermore, we demonstrated that CAV-1 overexpression upregulates the expression of serpin peptidase inhibitor, class E, member 1 (SERPINE1, also known as PAI-1), which serves as a marker for the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process. Further research showed that PAI-1 knockdown abolished the CAV-1 mediated activation of PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. In glioma tissues, CAV-1 expression exhibited a correlation with unfavorable prognosis and immune infiltration among glioma patients. In summary, our study provided evidence that CAV-1 activates the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway by upregulating PAI-1, thereby promoting the proliferation and metastasis of glioma through enhanced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and angiogenesis, and CAV-1 is involved in the immune infiltration.

BACKGROUND: Emerging evidence suggests systemic inflammation as a critical mechanism underlying diabetic neuropathy. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between 41 circulating inflammatory cytokines and diabetic neuropathy. METHODS: Summary statistics from previous Genome-Wide Association studies (GWAS) included pooled data on 41 inflammatory cytokines and diabetic neuropathy. A two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) design was employed, and the robustness of the results was confirmed through comprehensive sensitivity analyses. RESULTS: Our study reveals that the linkage between increased levels of IFN_G (OR = 1.31, 95 %CI: 1.06-1.63; P = 0.014), IP_10 (OR = 1.18, 95 %CI: 1.01-1.36; P = 0.031) and an elevated risk of diabetic neuropathy. Conversely, higher levels of IL_9 (OR = 0.86, 95 %CI: 0.75-1.00; P = 0.048) and SCF (OR = 0.83, 95 %CI: 0.73-0.94; P = 0.003) are genetically determined to protect against diabetic neuropathy. Furthermore, the sensitivity analysis affirmed the results' dependability, revealing no heterogeneity or pleiotropy. CONCLUSION: Our MR research identified four upstream inflammatory cytokines implicated in diabetic neuropathy. Overall, these findings suggest the potential for innovative therapeutic strategies. Further large-scale cohort studies are required for validation.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to explore the causal relationship between blood metabolites and the risk of visceral obesity, as measured by visceral adipose tissue (VAT). METHODS: Summary statistics for 486 blood metabolites and total, as well as sex-stratified, MRI-derived VAT measurements, adjusted for body mass index (BMI) and height, were collected from previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS). A two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) design was used. Comprehensive evaluation was further conducted, including sensitivity analysis, linkage disequilibrium score (LDSC) regression, Steiger test, and metabolic pathway analysis. RESULTS: After multiple testing correction, arachidonate (20:4n6) has been implicated in VAT accumulation (ß = 0.35, 95%CI:0.18-0.52, P < 0.001; FDR = 0.025). Additionally, several blood metabolites were identified as potentially having causal relationship (FDR < 0.10). Among them, lysine (ß = 0.67, 95%CI: 0.28-1.06, P < 0.001; FDR = 0.074), proline (ß = 0.30, 95%CI:0.13-0.48, P < 0.001; FDR = 0.082), valerate (ß = 0.50, 95%CI:0.23-0.78, P < 0.001, FDR = 0.091) are associated with an increased risk of VAT accumulation. On the other hand, glycine (ß=-0.21, 95%CI: -0.33-0.09), P < 0.001, FDR = 0.076) have a protective effect against VAT accumulation. Most blood metabolites showed consistent trends between different sexes. Multivariable MR analysis demonstrated the effect of genetically predicted arachidonate (20:4n6) and proline on VAT remained after accounting for BMI and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). There is no evidence of heterogeneity, pleiotropy, and reverse causality. CONCLUSION: Our MR findings suggest that these metabolites may serve as biomarkers, as well as for future mechanistic exploration and drug target selection of visceral obesity.

PURPOSE: The relationship between thyroid hormone sensitivity and albuminuria remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the association between thyroid hormone sensitivity and the risk of albuminuria in a euthyroid population. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 7634 euthyroid adults collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2007 and 2012. Central sensitivity to thyroid hormones was evaluated using the thyroid-stimulating hormone index (TSHI), the thyrotrophic thyroxine resistance index (TT4RI), and the thyroid feedback quantile-based index (TFQI). Peripheral sensitivity to thyroid hormones was measured using the free triiodothyronine/free thyroxine (FT3/FT4) ratio. Furthermore, the independent relationship between sensitivity to thyroid hormones and albuminuria was assessed. RESULTS: The proportion of albuminuria increased with a higher interquartile range of TFQI levels (7.31% vs. 7.89% vs. 7.95% vs. 9.89%, P = 0.024). Furthermore, TFQI was found to be independently associated with the risk of albuminuria after adjusting for confounding factors (OR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.01-1.60, P = 0.037). Subgroup analysis revealed a significant relationship between TFQI and albuminuria, especially among individuals over 60. CONCLUSIONS: In euthyroid subjects, impaired central sensitivity to thyroid hormones is associated with albuminuria. TFQI holds significant potential as an epidemiological tool for quantifying the impact of impaired central sensitivity on the risk of albuminuria.

Background: Cellular senescence is thought to play a significant role in the onset and development of diabetic nephropathy. The goal of this study was to explore potential biomarkers associated with diabetic glomerulopathy from the perspective of senescence. Methods: Datasets about human glomerular biopsy samples related to diabetic nephropathy were systematically obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Hub senescence-associated genes were investigated by differential gene analysis and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator analysis. Cluster analysis was employed to identify senescence molecular subtypes. A single-cell dataset was used to validate the above findings and further evaluate the senescence environment. The relationship between these genes and the glomerular filtration rate was explored based on the Nephroseq database. These gene expressions have also been explored in various kidney diseases. Results: Twelve representative senescence-associated genes (VEGFA, IQGAP2, JUN, PLAT, ETS2, ANG, MMP14, VEGFC, SERPINE2, CXCR2, PTGES, and EGF) were finally identified. Biological changes in immune inflammatory response, cell cycle regulation, metabolic regulation, and immune microenvironment have been observed across different molecular subtypes. The above results were also validated based on single-cell analysis. Additionally, we also identified several significantly altered cell communication pathways, including COLLAGEN, PTN, LAMININ, SPP1, and VEGF. Finally, almost all these genes could well predict the occurrence of diabetic glomerulopathy based on receiver operating characteristic analysis and are associated with the glomerular filtration rate. These genes are differently expressed in various kidney diseases. Conclusion: The present study identified potential senescence-associated biomarkers and further explored the heterogeneity of diabetic glomerulopathy that might provide new insights into the diagnosis, assessment, management, and personalized treatment of DN.

Prelithiation is an essential technology to compensate for the initial lithium loss of lithium-ion batteries due to the formation of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and irreversible structure change. However, the prelithiated materials/electrodes become more reactive with air and electrolyte resulting in unwanted side reactions and contaminations, which makes it difficult for the practical application of prelithiation technology. To address this problem, herein, interphase engineering through a simple solution treatment after chemical prelithiation is proposed to protect the prelithiated electrode. The used solutions are carefully selected, and the composition and nanostructure of the as-formed artificial SEIs are revealed by cryogenic electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The electrochemical evaluation demonstrates the unique merits of this artificial SEI, especially for the fluorinated interphase, which not only enhances the interfacial ion transport but also increases the tolerance of the prelithiated electrode to the air. The treated graphite electrode shows an initial Coulombic efficiency of 129.4%, a high capacity of 170 mAh g-1 at 3 C, and negligible capacity decay after 200 cycles at 1 C. These findings not only provide a facile, universal, and controllable method to construct an artificial SEI but also enlighten the upgrade of battery fabrication and the alternative use of advanced electrolytes.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that the gut microbiota plays an important role in the maintenance of thyroid homeostasis. We aimed to evaluate the causal relationships between gut microbiota and hypothyroidism. METHODS: Summary statistics for 211 gut microbiota taxa were obtained from the largest available genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis conducted by the MiBioGen consortium. Summary statistics for hypothyroidism were obtained from two distinct sources: the FinnGen consortium R9 release data (40,926 cases and 274,069 controls) and the UK Biobank data (22,687 cases and 440,246 controls), respectively. A two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) design was employed, and thorough sensitivity analyses were carried out to ensure the reliability of the results. RESULTS: Based on the FinnGen consortium, we found increased levels of Intestinimonas (OR = 1.09; 95%CI = 1.02-1.16; P = 0.01) and Ruminiclostridium5 (OR = 1.11; 95%CI = 1.02-1.22; P = 0.02) may be associated with a higher risk of hypothyroidism, while increased levels of Butyrivibrio (OR = 0.95; 95%CI = 0.92-0.99; P = 0.02), Eggerthella (OR = 0.93; 95%CI = 0.88-0.98; P = 0.01), Lachnospiraceae UCG008 (OR = 0.92; 95%CI = 0.85-0.99; P = 0.02), Ruminococcaceae UCG011 (OR = 0.95; 95%CI = 0.90-0.99; P = 0.02), and Actinobacteria (OR = 0.88; 95%CI = 0.80-0.97; P = 0.01) may be associated with a lower risk. According to the UK Biobank data, Eggerthella and Ruminiclostridium5 remain causally associated with hypothyroidism. The sensitivity analysis demonstrates consistent results without evidence of heterogeneity or pleiotropy. CONCLUSION: This study highlights the impact of specific gut microbiota on hypothyroidism. Strategies to change composition of gut microbiota may hold promise as potential interventions.

Hapten design and synthesis have been regarded as the key factor to generate high-quality antibodies. In the present study, a novel hapten of chloramphenicol was synthesized, characterized and compared with two conventional haptens. The new hapten generated mAb 4B5 showed higher sensitivity and titer than the other two haptens-based mAbs. The haptens synthesized with the structure of chloramphenicol base generated more sensitive antibodies than the hapten with chloramphenicol succinate, and the spacer arm linked to the phenyl group hapten elicited the strongest antibody response. After optimization, a direct competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (dcELISA) and a lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA), both based on the mAb 4B5, were developed. The dcELISA had a half maximum inhibition concentration of 0.23 ng/mL and the LFIA showed a cutoff value of 5-10 ng/mL. The LFIA was applied to detect illegally-added chloramphenicol samples in anti-acne cosmetics, five out of 19 samples were tested chloramphenicol containing within 10 min, which result was confirmed with the dcELISA and HPLC. The LFIA has an adequate sensitivity and can be used as a point of care diagnostic device for rapidly screening chloramphenicol in cosmetics.

It usually takes a long time to collect data for calibration when using electroencephalography (EEG) for driver drowsiness monitoring. Cross-dataset recognition is desirable since it can significantly save the calibration time when an existing dataset is used. However, the recognition accuracy is affected by the distribution drift problem caused by different experimental environments when building different datasets. In order to solve the problem, we propose a deep transfer learning model named Entropy-Driven Joint Adaptation Network (EDJAN), which can learn useful information from source and target domains simultaneously. An entropy-driven loss function is used to promote clustering of target-domain representations and an individual-level domain adaptation technique is proposed to alleviate the distribution discrepancy problem of test subjects. We use two public driving datasets SEEG-VIG and SADT to test the model on the cross-dataset setting. The proposed model achieved an accuracy of 83.3% when SADT is used as source domain and SEED-VIG is used as target domain and 76.7% accuracy on the reverse setting, which is higher than the other SOTA methods. The results are further analyzed with both global and local interpretation methods. Our work illuminates a promising direction of using EEG for calibration-free driver drowsiness recognition.

Fast-charging lithium-ion batteries are highly required, especially in reducing the mileage anxiety of the widespread electric vehicles. One of the biggest bottlenecks lies in the sluggish kinetics of the Li+ intercalation into the graphite anode; slow intercalation will lead to lithium metal plating, severe side reactions, and safety concerns. The premise to solve these problems is to fully understand the reaction pathways and rate-determining steps of graphite during fast Li+ intercalation. Herein, we compare the Li+ diffusion through the graphite particle, interface, and electrode, uncover the structure of the lithiated graphite at high current densities, and correlate them with the reaction kinetics and electrochemical performances. It is found that the rate-determining steps are highly dependent on the particle size, interphase property, and electrode configuration. Insufficient Li+ diffusion leads to high polarization, incomplete intercalation, and the coexistence of several staging structures. Interfacial Li+ diffusion and electrode transportation are the main rate-determining steps if the particle size is less than 10 µm. The former is highly dependent on the electrolyte chemistry and can be enhanced by constructing a fluorinated interphase. Our findings enrich the understanding of the graphite structural evolution during rapid Li+ intercalation, decipher the bottleneck for the sluggish reaction kinetics, and provide strategic guidelines to boost the fast-charging performance of graphite anode.
