BACKGROUND: This study aims to investigate the effects of a conditioned medium (CM) from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HuMSCs) cultivated in gelatin sponge (GS-HuMSCs-CM) on hair growth in a mouse model. METHODS: CM was collected from the HuMSCs cultivated in a monolayer or in a gelatin sponge. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), keratinocyte growth factor (KGF), and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) levels in CMs were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). A hair loss model by a C57 BL/6J mouse was prepared. The effects of GS-HuMSCs-CM and HuMSCs on hair regrowth in mice were investigated by intradermal injection in the depilated back skin with normal saline (NS) as the control. The time for hair regrowth and full covering in depilated areas was observed, and the hair growth was evaluated histologically and by grossly measuring hair length and diameter. RESULTS: Compared with monolayer cultured cells, the three-dimensional (3D) culture of HuMSCs in gelatin sponge drastically increased VEGF, IGF-1, KGF, and HGF production. GS-HuMSCs-CM and HuMSCs injection both promoted hair regeneration in mice, while GS-HuMSCs-CM presented more enhanced effects in hair length, hair diameter, and growth rate. GS-HuMSCs-CM significantly promoted angiogenesis in injected skin areas, which might also contribute to faster hair regrowth. CONCLUSION: GS-HuMSCs-CM exerted significant effects on inducing hair growth and promoted skin angiogenesis in C57BL/6J mice.

OBJECTIVES: Acute kidney injury (AKI) caused by cisplatin (CDDP) is a complex, critical illness with no effective or specific treatment. The purpose of the study was to assess the protective effect of protopanaxadiol (PPD) on the kidneys in CDDP-induced AKI models and its possible mechanisms. METHODS: In vitro, the protection of PPD was assessed in HK-2. KM mice were injected with CDDP to induce AKI models in vivo. The determination of blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine (SCr) was performed, and pathological changes were examined by histopathological examination. Immunostaining and western blot analyses were used to analyze the expression levels of proteins. RESULTS: PPD can increase the viability of HK-2 cells damaged by CDDP, improve cell morphology, and alleviate the symptoms of AKI in mice. In addition, PPD can down-regulate the protein expression of TRF and up-regulate the protein expression of Ferritin heavy chain, Glutathione peroxidase 4, and ferroptosis suppressor protein 1 reduce the iron content in cells and kidney tissues, and restore the antioxidant defense system. CONCLUSION: PPD has an inhibitory effect on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity, which may be related to the inhibition of ferroptosis by regulating iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation.

Here, amphiphile GCH based on glutamide-cyanostilbene is designed and synthesized, it is found that it can assembly in acetonitrile, and shows circular dichroism signals. After Z-E isomerizaition by UV irradiation, the CD signal of the assembly can be inverted. Unexpectedly, after another heating and cooling process, the circular dichroism signals can be totally inverted even though the E-isomers are in minority. Finally, the molecular dynamics (MD) simulations deeply elucidate the supramolecuar chirality inversion mechanism. This work brings some new insights into the control of chirality inversion, which may provide a perspective for the smart chiroptical materials construction.

Lupus nephritis (LN) is a kidney disease that occurs after systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) affects the kidneys. Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) is highly expressed in the serum of patients with LN. Renal PTX3 deposition is directly related to clinical symptoms such as proteinuria and inflammation. The excessive proliferation of mesangial cells (MCs) is one of the representative pathological changes in the progression of LN, which is closely related to its pathogenesis. Protopanaxadiol (PPD) is the main component of ginsenoside metabolism and has not been reported in LN. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between PTX3 and mesangial cell proliferation and to evaluate the potential role and mechanism of PPD in improving LN. PTX3 is highly expressed in the kidneys of LN patients and LN mice and is positively correlated with renal pathological indicators, including proteinuria and PCNA. The excessive expression of PTX3 facilitated the proliferation of MCs, facilitated the activation of the MAPK/ERK1/2 signaling pathway, and increased the expression of HIF-1α. Further studies showed that PPD can effectively inhibit the abnormal proliferation of MCs with high expression of PTX3 and significantly improve LN symptoms such as proteinuria in MRL/lpr mice. The mechanism may be related to the inhibition of the PTX3/MAPK/ERK1/2 pathway. In this study, both in vitro, in vivo, and clinical sample results show that PTX3 is involved in the regulation of MCs proliferation and the early occurrence of LN. Natural active compound PPD can improve LN by regulating the PTX3/MAPK/ERK1/2 pathway.

There are limited published studies on patient activation among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in China. Disease activity can significantly influence a patient's perception of their condition, subsequently impacting patient activation. However, the mechanisms through which disease activity influences patient activation remain poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate patient activation among patients with SLE in China and explore the influencing factors. We conducted a cross-sectional study from June to December 2021 at a rheumatology and immunology department of a tertiary hospital in Chengdu, China. Data were collected by questionnaire, including general information, disease activity, quality of chronic illness care, health literacy, self-efficacy, motivation, social support, and patient activation. A patient activation model was constructed based on the conceptual framework derived from the individual and family self-management theory. To evaluate the moderating effect of disease activity on patient activation model, participants were divided into two subgroups (low disease activity group and high disease activity group). 426 SLE patients were included. The mean score of patient activation among SLE patients was 63.28 ± 11.82, indicating that most SLE patients lacked skills and confidence to stick with health-promoting behaviors. Health literacy, social support, and self-efficacy had the greatest effect on patient activation. In the multi-group analysis, social support and health literacy contributed more to patient activation in SLE patients with high and low disease activity, respectively. Patient activation among SLE patients in China was at the third level. Healthcare professionals should help them adhere to health-promoting behaviors. Health literacy, social support, and self-efficacy are vital factors for patient activation. These factors should be prioritized based on disease activity when developing individually tailored interventions for patient activation.

Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) refers to a subtype of bladder carcinoma where cancer is localized in the inner lining of bladder. NMIBC consider as one of most costly malignancy and requires significant surgical and therapeutic measure. However, recurrence and progression of tumor is common in treated patients. Here we presented an integrated OMICs approach for the identification and inhibition of NMIBC specific genes. We utilized a case study where three group of patients were compared: 1) Relapsed tumors 2) recurrent tumors and 3) tumor in progression. Common transcriptome signature between patients facing recurrence and progression allowed us to identify three NMIBC specific genes FLT-1, WHSC-1 and CD34. We further utilized novel approach of Co-expressed gene-set enrichment analysis (COGENA) on the differentially expressed genes of this case study. Three drugs (paroxetine, adiphenine and H-89) with role of receptors inhibition were identified and predicted as repurposed drugs for the inhibition NMIBC specific genes. We further tested this hypothesis by performing molecular docking and simulation analysis between cancer specific proteins and drugs. FLT-1 have shown significant stable interaction with both drugs paroxetine and adiphenine whereas WHSC-1 have shown compact interaction with adiphenine and H-89. In the light of these evidence, we suggest that adiphenine could be repositioned as alternate targeted medicine for the treatment of NMIBC. In the future, this study will help for strengthening the strategies development at the molecular level for the control of carcinomas at early as well as detection of active and binding site, receptor-ligand interaction and also make drug repurposing for the early treatment of the carcinomas.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. The development of drought has spatial and temporal synchronization. Previous studies usually explore the spatial and temporal evolution of drought separately. Moreover, existing approaches are based on a fixed overlapping area and do not consider the variable drought cluster area during development. This study proposes an improved and simple approach to derive dynamic overlapping area threshold for 3-dimensional droughts extraction. Based on the one monthly Nonparametric Standardized Precipitation Index (NSPI), this improved approach was applied for investigating the migration characteristics of meteorological drought events in the Loess Plateau of China. Then, Random Forest and Extreme Gradient Boosting model with Shapley additive explanation values were used to quantify the importance of driving factors on the dynamics of drought characteristics. The results showed that: (1) the improved approach has a better performance on identifying prolonged droughts than the method using a fixed overlap area threshold; (2) spatially, meteorological drought events with high severity (DS), long duration (DD), large effected area (DA) and fast migration velocity (DV) mainly occur in the central region; (3) temporally, droughts are expected to aggravate with significantly increased DS and DA which are mainly caused by increased temperature and vegetation; and (4) meteorological droughts have a preferred westward migration direction and three dominant migration paths, which are crucial for local drought prevention and control. The findings of this study provide new perspectives on drought migration characteristics, which are important for the exploration of drought-driven mechanisms, risk assessment and future prediction.

Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is one of the most common type of bladder cancer. Here, we have utilized an integrated transcriptomic-computational approach to identify alternate treatments to the NMIBC. In this study, we have performed the comprehensive comparative analysis between three groups of 36 patients with non-relapsed (NR), recurrence and progressive symptoms. Differentially expressed genes involved in the pathways associated with the NMIBC were identified. In silico protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was performed to create the network of the hub genes associated with NMIBC. Further, we compared NR individuals with two cohorts of patients with recurrent and progressive symptoms that lead to the identification of three major biomarkers CD34, FLT1 and WHSC1 genes. Concurrently, PPI also suggests that they are significant hub genes responsible for disease recurrence and progression. Furthermore, targeted genes WHSC-1 and FLT-1 were subjected to virtual screening for identification phytochemical inhibitors. Docking and molecular dynamics simulations concluded that the phytochemicals anonymously named 'UNK' and '6-hydroxycyanidin' are suitable for the inhibition of the proteins causing the NMIBC. In the future, this study will help for strengthening the strategies development at the molecular level for the control of carcinomas at early as well as detection of active and binding site, receptor-ligand interaction and also make drug designing for the early treatment of the carcinomas.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Electrochemical oxygen reduction (ORR) for the production of clean hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is an effective alternative to industrial anthraquinone methods. The development of highly active, stable, and 2e- ORR oxygen reduction electrocatalysts while suppressing the competing 4e- ORR pathway is currently the main challenge. Herein, bimetallic doping was successfully achieved based on graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) with the simultaneous introduction of K and Co, whereby 2D porous K-Co/CNNs nanosheets were obtained. The introduction of Co promoted the selectivity for H2O2, while the introduction of K not only promoted the formation of 2D nanosheets of g-C3N4, but also inhibited the ablation of H2O2 by K-Co/CNNs. Electrochemical studies showed that the selectivity of H2O2 in K-Co/CNNs under neutral electrolyte was as high as 97%. After 24 h, the H2O2 accumulation of K-Co/CNNs was as high as 31.7 g L-1. K-Co/CNNs improved the stability of H2O2 by inhibiting the ablation of H2O2, making it a good 2e- ORR catalyst and providing a new research idea for the subsequent preparation of H2O2.

Controlling the supramolecular chirality of a self-assembly system by molecular structure design and external stimuli in aqueous solution is significant but challenging. Here, we design and synthesize several glutamide-azobenzene-based amphiphiles with different length alkyl chains. The amphiphiles can form self-assemblies in aqueous solution and show CD signals. As the number of the alkyl chain of amphiphiles increases, the CD signals of the assemblies can be enhanced. However, the long alkyl chains conversely restrict the isomerization of the azobenzene and the corresponding chiroptical property. Moreover, the alkyl length can determine the nanostructure of the assemblies and exert critical influence on the dye adsorption efficiency. This work exhibits some insights into the tunable chiroptical property of the self-assembly by delicate molecular design and external stimuli, and emphasizes the molecular structure can determine the corresponding application.

BACKGROUND: Lymph node metastasis (LNM) is a critical prognostic factor in resectable pancreatic cancer (PC) patients, determining treatment strategies. This study aimed to develop a clinical model to adequately and accurately predict the risk of LNM in PC patients. METHODS: 13,200 resectable PC patients were enrolled from the SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results) database, and randomly divided into a training group and an internal validation group at a ratio of 7:3. An independent group (n = 62) obtained from The First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University was enrolled as the external validation group. The univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to screen independent risk factors for LNM. The minimum Akaike's information criterion (AIC) was performed to select the optimal model parameters and construct a nomogram for assessing the risk of LNM. The performance of the nomogram was assessed by the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve, calibration plot, and decision curve analysis (DCA). In addition, an online web calculator was designed to assess the risk of LNM. RESULT: A total of six risk predictors (including age at diagnosis, race, primary site, grade, histology, and T-stage) were identified and included in the nomogram. The areas under the curves (AUCs) [95% confidential interval (CI)] were 0.711 (95%CI: 0.700-0.722), 0.700 (95%CI: 0.683-0.717), and 0.845 (95%CI: 0.749-0.942) in the training, internal validation and external validation groups, respectively. The calibration curves showed satisfied consistency between nomogram-predicted LNM and actual observed LNM. The concordance indexes (C-indexes) in the training, internal, and external validation sets were 0.689, 0.686, and 0.752, respectively. The DCA curves of the nomogram demonstrated good clinical utility. CONCLUSION: We constructed a nomogram model for predicting LNM in pancreatic cancer patients, which may help oncologists and surgeons to choose more individualized clinical treatment strategies and make better clinical decisions.

Neutral electrosynthesis of H2O2via the 2e- ORR is attractive for numerous applications, but the low activity and high cost of electrocatalysts have become important constraints. Therefore, the development of cheap and efficient electrocatalysts for the 2e- ORR is necessary. Herein, we report the embedding of transition metal single atoms (TM SAs) in g-C3N4 nanosheets (CNNS). The introduction of TM SAs increases the N-CN content and reduces the C-C/CC content in CNNS, which contributes to the increased selectivity of TM SA/CNNS for the 2e- ORR. TM SA is the main reason for the enhanced activity of the 2e- ORR. Based on the results obtained by replacing a series of TM SA, the Ni0.10 SA/CNNS with optimal N-CN content exhibited the best selectivity (∼98%) and highest yield of H2O2 (∼503 mmol gcat-1 h-1), which is ∼14.6 times higher than that of CNNS (∼34.4 mmol gcat-1 h-1). Other TM SA/CNNS also exhibited high activity and selectivity. This study demonstrates the ability of TM SA to modulate the selectivity and activity of CNNS, making it a promising candidate for the 2e- ORR and providing more reference ideas for the preparation of H2O2.

OBJECTIVE: Thermal ablation, including microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA), has been recommended for the treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and refractory secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MWA and RFA in patients with PHPT and refractory SHPT. METHODS: Databases including PubMed, EMbase, the Cochrane Library, CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), and Wanfang were searched from inception to December 5, 2022. Eligible studies comparing MWA and RFA for PHPT and refractory SHPT were included. Data were analyzed using Review Manager software, version 5.3. RESULTS: Five studies were included in the meta-analysis. Two were retrospective cohort studies, and three were RCTs. Overall, 294 patients were included in the MWA group, and 194 patients were included in the RFA group. Compared with RFA for refractory SHPT, MWA had a shorter operation time for a single lesion (P < 0.01) and a higher complete ablation rate for a single lesion ≥ 15 mm (P < 0.01) but did not show a difference in the complete ablation rate for a single lesion < 15 mm (P > 0.05). There were no significant differences between MWA and RFA for refractory SHPT concerning parathyroid hormone (P > 0.05), calcium (P > 0.05), and phosphorus levels (P > 0.05) within 12 months after ablation, except that calcium (P < 0.01) and phosphorus levels (P = 0.02) in the RFA group were lower than those in the MWA group at one month after ablation. There was no significant difference between MWA and RFA concerning the cure rate of PHPT (P > 0.05). There were no significant differences between MWA and RFA for PHPT and refractory SHPT concerning the complications of hoarseness (P > 0.05) and hypocalcaemia (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: MWA had a shorter operation time for single lesions and a higher complete ablation rate for large lesions in patients with refractory SHPT. However, there was no significant difference in efficacy and safety between MWA and RFA in cases of both PHPT and refractory SHPT. Both MWA and RFA are effective treatment methods for PHPT and refractory SHPT.

RESUMO

Self-powered biomedical devices, which are the new vision of Internet Of Things (IOT) healthcare, are facing many technical and application challenges. Many research works have reported biomedical devices and self-powered applications for healthcare, along with various strategies to improve the monitoring time of self-powered devices or to eliminate the dependence on electrochemical batteries. However, none of these works have especially assessed the development and application of healthcare devices in an African context. This article provides a comprehensive review of self-powered devices in the biomedical research field, introduces their applications for healthcare, evaluates their status in Africa by providing a thorough review of existing biomedical device initiatives and available financial and scientific cooperation institutions in Africa for the biomedical research field, and highlights general challenges for implementing self-powered biomedical devices and particular challenges related to developing countries. The future perspectives of the aforementioned research field are provided, as well as an architecture for improving this research field in developing countries.

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) colonizes the vaginal and rectal mucosa in a substantial proportion of healthy women, and GBS is a risk factor for GBS-associated adverse birth outcomes, such as bacterial infection, in neonates. Whether changes in the gut microbiota of GBS-infected pregnant women are associated with maternal complete blood cell count (CBC) and neonatal blood-gas analysis is unknown. To explore the relationship between the intestinal microecological composition of pregnant women and maternal blood routine and neonatal blood-gas analysis, we collected intestinal microecology samples of 26 pregnant women in clinic. They were divided into a positive group(GBS positive,GBS +) and a negative group (GBS negative, GBS-), with 12 in the positive group and 14 in the negative group. 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used to examine the gut microbiota profile from a fecal sample of pregnant women. CBC was carried out in enrolled pregnant women and umbilical arterial blood-gas analysis (UABGA)was conducted for analysis of intestinal microbiota composition, maternal blood routine and neonatal blood gas. Our results showed significant differences in the total number of organisms and microbial diversity of intestinal microbiota between healthy pregnant women and GBS-positive pregnant women. Particularly, abundances of Lentisphaerae, Chlorobi, Parcubacteria, Chloroflexi, Gemmatimonadetes, Acidobacteria, Fusobacteria and Fibrobacteres were only detected in participants with GBS colonization. Blood-gas analysis revealed that neonates born to mothers with GBS colonization had significantly higher fractions of carboxyhemoglobin (FCOHb) and lower methemoglobin (FMetHb), and abundances of OTU80, OTU122, OTU518 and OTU375 were associated with blood-gas indicators, such as carboxyhemoglobin, methemoglobin, PCO2, PH and ABE. Interestingly, there were significant correlations between OTU levels and inflammatory indexes in pregnant women with GBS infection. Together, this study revealed for the first time that altered gut microbiota compositions are related to the inflammatory state in GBS-positive pregnant women and neonatal blood-gas indicators. GBS colonization may lead to significant changes in the gut microbiome, which might be involved in the pathogenesis of the maternal inflammatory state and neonatal blood gas abnormalities.

RESUMO

The shuttle effect of soluble lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) between electrodes and slow reaction kinetics lead to extreme inefficiency and poor high current cycling stability, which limits the commercial application of Li-S batteries. Herein, the multi-dimensional composite frame has been proposed as the modified separator (MCCoS/PP) of Li-S battery, which is composed of CoS2 nanoparticles on alkali-treated MXene nanosheets and carbon nanotubes. Both experiments and theoretical calculations show that bifunctional catalytic activity can be achieved on the MCCoS/PP separator. It can not only promote the liquid-solid conversion in the reduction process, but also accelerate the decomposition of insoluble Li2S in the oxidation process. In addition, LiPSs shuttle effect has been inhibited without a decrease in lithium-ion transference numbers. Simultaneously, the MCCoS/PP separator with good LiPSs adsorption capability arouses redistribution and fixing of active substances, which is also beneficial to the rate performance and cycling stability. The Li-S batteries with the MCCoS/PP separator have a specific capacity of 368.6 mAh g-1 at 20C, and the capacity decay per cycle is only 0.033% in 1000 cycles at 7C. Also, high area capacity (6.34 mAh cm-2) with a high sulfur loading (7.7 mg cm-2) and a low electrolyte/sulfur ratio (7.5 µL mg-1) is achieved.

The objective of this study was to remove heavy metals from metallurgical industry sludge by bioleaching alone and bioleaching combined with persulfate (PDS). The results showed that the removal of Cu, Zn, Pb, and Mn reached 70%, 83.8%, 25.2%, and 76.9% by bioleaching alone after 18 days, respectively. The experiment of bioleaching combined with PDS was carried out in which the optimal additive dosage of K2S2O8, 8 g/L, was added to bioleaching after 6 d. After 1 h, the removal of four heavy metals reached 75.1, 84.3, 36.7, and 81.6%, respectively. Compared with bioleaching alone, although the increase in removal efficiency was only slightly increased, the treatment cycle was distinctly shortened from 18 to 6 days + 1 h. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results showed that the surface morphology of the sludge was changed significantly by the combined treatment. The content of heavy metals was significantly reduced after bioleaching combined with PDS by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Through electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and free radical quenching experiments, it was indicated that sulfate radicals [Formula: see text] plays a leading role in the combined treatment. The treated sludge mainly existed in a stable form, and the bioavailability was reduced with European Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) morphology analysis. This study proved that the combination of bioleaching and PDS could not only shorten the treatment cycle but also further improve the efficiency of heavy metal leaching. It provides a novel treatment method for the removal of heavy metals from metallurgical industry sludge.

Heart aging is characterized by structural and diastolic dysfunction of the heart. However, there is still no effective drug to prevent and treat the abnormal changes in cardiac function caused by aging. Here, we present the preventive effects of emodin and its derivative Kanglexin (KLX) against heart aging. We found that the diastolic dysfunction and cardiac remodeling in mice with D-galactose (D-gal)-induced aging were markedly mitigated by KLX and emodin. In addition, the senescence of neonatal mouse cardiomyocytes induced by D-gal was also reversed by KLX and emodin treatment. However, KLX exhibited better anti-heart aging effects than emodin at the same dose. Dysregulated mitophagy was observed in aging hearts and in senescent neonatal mouse cardiomyocytes, and KLX produced a greater increase in mitophagy than emodin. The mitophagy-promoting effects of KLX and emodin were ascribed to their abilities to enhance the protein stability of Parkin, a key modulator in mitophagy, with different potencies. Molecular docking and SPR analysis demonstrated that KLX has a higher affinity for the ubiquitin-like (UBL) domain of Parkin than emodin. The UBL domain might contribute to the stabilizing effects of KLX on Parkin. In conclusion, this study identifies KLX and emodin as effective anti-heart aging drugs that activate Parkin-mediated mitophagy and outlines their putative therapeutic importance.

Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease of high lethality associated with endothelial dysfunction. Due to the pathophysiological complexity and our incomplete understanding of the mechanisms for the development and progression of atherosclerosis, effective means for the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis still need further exploration. This study was designed to investigate the potential effects and underlying mechanisms of aloe-emodin derivative (AED) on atherosclerosis. High fat diet (HFD) treated ApoE-/- mice were used as an animal model of atherosclerosis. Intragastric administration of aloe-emodin (AE) or AED for 12 weeks markedly reduced the atherosclerotic plaque in aorta with decreased plaque area, lipid accumulation, macrophage infiltration, collagen content and metabolic abnormalities. By comparison, AED produced more potent anti-atherosclerosis effects than AE at the same dose. AED enhanced production of autophagy flux in cultured human aortic endothelial cells (HAECs). Moreover, AED increased the expression of activating molecule in Beclin1-regulated autophagy 1 (AMBRA1), a key protein involved in autophagosome formation. Furthermore, knockdown of AMBRA1 blocked the promotion effect of AED on autophagy in HAECs. Taken together, AED facilitates endothelial autophagy via AMBRA1 during the progression of atherosclerosis, suggesting the potential application of this compound for atherosclerosis treatment.

In this study, cattail was researched as a natural cellulose source to extract cellulose. Dewaxing, alkali and bleaching treatments were carried out for the cattail fibers (CFs). The FTIR, SEM and XRD results indicated that hemicellulose and lignin were successfully removed from the CFs, and the content of cattail cellulose increased from 41.66 ± 1.11% to 89.72 ± 1.07%. Subsequently, cellulose aerogel was prepared by the extracted cattail cellulose. The Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was uniformly loaded onto the surface of cellulose aerogel by the in situ growth, and ZIF-8 Cattail Cellulose Aerogel (ZCCA) was finally prepared. The SEM, FTIR, XRD and TGA results further confirmed the successful preparation of ZCCA. Additionally, the results of the adsorption experiment showed that ZCCA had excellent adsorption performance for enrofloxacin, and the maximum adsorption capacity of enrofloxacin reached 172.09 mg·g-1 while showing good reusability. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model. Thermodynamic studies showed that the adsorption of enrofloxacin was a spontaneous endothermic reaction and that the adsorption mechanism involves the interaction of hydrogen bonds, electrostatic and π-π stacking.
