RESUMO

Hulless barley is a cold-resistant crop widely planted in the northwest plateau of China. It is also the main food crop in this region. Phosphorus (P), as one of the important essential nutrient elements, regulates plant growth and defense. This study aimed to analyze the development and related molecular mechanisms of hulless barley under P deficiency and explore the regulatory genes so as to provide a basis for subsequent molecular breeding research. Transcriptome analysis was performed on the root and leaf samples of hulless barley cultured with different concentrations of KH2PO4 (1 mM and 10 µM) Hoagland solution. A total of 46,439 genes were finally obtained by the combined analysis of leaf and root samples. Among them, 325 and 453 genes had more than twofold differences in expression. These differentially expressed genes (DEGs) mainly participated in the abiotic stress biosynthetic process through Gene Ontology prediction. Moreover, the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes showed that DEGs were mainly involved in photosynthesis, plant hormone signal transduction, glycolysis, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, and synthesis of metabolites. These pathways also appeared in other abiotic stresses. Plants initiated multiple hormone synergistic regulatory mechanisms to maintain growth under P-deficient conditions. Transcription factors (TFs) also proved these predictions. The enrichment of ARR-B TFs, which positively regulated the phosphorelay-mediated cytokinin signal transduction, and some other TFs (AP2, GRAS, and ARF) was related to plant hormone regulation. Some DEGs showed different values in their FPKM (fragment per kilobase of transcript per million mapped reads), but the expression trends of genes responding to stress and phosphorylation remained highly consistent. Therefore, in the case of P deficiency, the first response of plants was the expression of stress-related genes. The effects of this stress on plant metabolites need to be further studied to improve the relevant regulatory mechanisms so as to further understand the importance of P in the development and stress resistance of hulless barley.

The synthesis of anti-reflective (AR) films has been increasingly focused on environmental friendliness and cost efficiency in order to realize green and sustainable development. Herein, a novel strategy for preparing a nanoporous SiO2 AR film with high transmittance by a sol-gel process is proposed based on a sodium silicate aqueous solution. Sodium ions in the as-prepared SiO2 AR film can be effectively removed by a facile washing process, and thus its refractive index can be regulated. Moreover, the pH value of the sol has a huge effect on the structure and properties of the SiO2 AR film. As a result, the AR film exhibited a high transmittance increase of 4.10% at 550 nm and an average transmittance increase by 3.51% in the wavelength range of 380-1100 nm compared with blank glass. In addition, the obtained water-based SiO2 AR film exhibited hydrophilicity and the water contact angle (WCA) can be regulated from 61° to 8.4°. When the AR film was applied to the upper surface of perovskite solar cells, the photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE) revealed an improvement of 1.44% compared with the PCE of perovskite solar cells without the AR film. Therefore, this work can provide a facile and effective method to prepare water-based antireflective films with high transmittance for solar cells.

Allene oxide synthase (AOS) is a key enzyme involved in the jasmonic acid (JA) synthesis pathway in plants. To explore its function on the regulatory mechanism of JA synthesis, we screened and identified two AOS genes HvnAOS1 and HvnAOS2 in qingke. Both HvnAOS1 and HvnAOS2 contained conserved heme-binding motif, which is most closely related to AtsAOS2, indicating controlled dehydration of fatty acid hydroperoxides to allene oxides. Molecular docking simulations identified the key amino acid sites that were important for heme binding and interaction with 13(S)-HPOT, respectively. The expression pattern also indicated that HvnAOS1 and HvnAOS2 were highly induced by JA, abscisic acid, and salicylic acid. Subcellular localization of HvnAOS1 and HvnAOS2 using transient expression of Agrobacterium tumefaciens showed the green fluorescent protein signal in the cell cytoplasm of the N. benthamiana leaves. Overexpression of HvnAOS1 and HvnAOS2 in Arabidopsis aos mutant restored male fertility and plant resistance to Botrytis cinerea, indicating that HvnAOS1 and HvnAOS2 can restore the functions of AOS in Arabidopsis aos mutant.

To better understand the three-dimensional topology of the interaction between the shock train and the background wave, the steady and dynamic characteristics of a shock train were investigated using wind-tunnel experiments and numerical simulation. A 14° wedge placed at the bottom and sidewalls was used to generate background waves traveling in different directions. Mounting the wedge on the bottom wall at an incoming Mach number of 1.85 leads to the formation of two symmetric and two asymmetric λ-shaped shock train leading shocks (STLSs), while an incoming Mach number of 2.70 results in one symmetric and two asymmetric X-shaped STLSs. The shock train, which runs perpendicular to the background wave, is always symmetrical at an incoming Mach number of 1.85 when the wedge is mounted on the lateral wall. A flow phenomenon in which the STLS transforms from asymmetric to symmetric after undergoing rapid movement is observed at an incoming Mach number of 2.70. The mean and root-mean-square (rms) pressure profiles confirm the morphological transformation of the STLS. The dynamic properties of the shock train are analyzed by combining the STLS trajectory with the transient wall pressure. Power spectral-density analysis reveals that the frequency of pressure oscillations is independent of whether the shock train is in the same flow cross section as the background wave and depends only on the incoming Mach number and the backpressure. The three-dimensional steady-state numerical simulation reveals the mutual interference structure of the background wave and shock train.

BACKGROUND: TRIM proteins, recognized as a class of E3 ubiquitin ligases, are increasingly acknowledged for their antipathogen immune functions in mammals and fish. In the Chinese soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis), a secondary aquatic reptile that occupies a unique evolutionary position, the TRIM gene has rarely been reported. METHODS AND RESULTS: In the present study, 48 PsTRIM proteins were identified from the genome of Pelodiscus sinensis via Hidden Markov Model (HMM) searches and Signal Transduction ATPases with Numerous Domains (SMART) analysis. These PsTRIMs were found across 43 distinct scaffolds, and phylogenetic analyses classified them into three principal clades. The PsTRIMs feature a conserved assembly of either RING-B-box-coiled-coil (RBCC) or B-box-coiled-coil (BBC) domains at the N-terminus, in addition to eight unique domains at the C-terminus, including the B30.2 domain, 19 of which were identified. Expression profiling revealed ubiquitous expression of the 48 PsTRIMs across various P. sinensis tissues. Notably, seven PsTRIMs exhibited significant differential expression in liver transcriptomes following infection with Aeromonas hydrophila. Weighted gene coexpression network analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis implicated PsTRIM14 and PsTRIM28 as key players in host defense against bacterial invasion. Real-time quantitative PCR results indicated that PsTRIM1, PsTRIM2, PsTRIM14, and PsTRIM28 experienced marked upregulation in P. sinensis livers at 12 h post-infection with A. hydrophila. CONCLUSIONS: Our study is the first to comprehensively identify and analyze the functions of TRIM genes in P. sinensis, unveiling their considerable diversity and potential roles in modulating immune responses.

Ferroptosis, a unique form of regulated necrotic cell death, is caused by excessive iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. However, the underlying mechanisms driving ferroptosis in human cancers remain elusive. In this study, we identified TRIM3, an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase, as a key regulator of ferroptosis. TRIM3 is downregulated in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), two major types of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Forced expression of TRIM3 promotes cell death by enhancing the cellular level of ROS and lipid peroxidation. Moreover, our in vivo study determined that TRIM3 overexpression diminishes the tumorigenicity of NSCLC cells, indicating that TRIM3 functions as a tumor suppressor in NSCLC. Mechanistically, TRIM3 directly interacts with SLC7A11/xCT through its NHL domain, leading to SCL7A11 K11-linked ubiquitination at K37, which promotes SLC7A11 proteasome-mediated degradation. Importantly, TRIM3 expression exhibits a negative correlation with SCL7A11 expression in clinical NSCLC samples, and low TRIM3 expression is associated with a worse prognosis. This study reveals that TRIM3 functions as a tumor suppressor that can impede the tumorigenesis of NSCLC by degrading SLC7A11, suggesting a novel therapeutic strategy against NSCLC.

The development of tellurium (Te)-based semiconductor nanomaterials for efficient light-to-heat conversion may offer an effective means of harvesting sunlight to address global energy concerns. However, the nanosized Te (nano-Te) materials reported to date suffer from a series of drawbacks, including limited light absorption and a lack of surface structures. Herein, we report the preparation of nano-Te by electrochemical exfoliation using an electrolyzable room-temperature ionic liquid. Anions, cations, and their corresponding electrolytic products acting as chemical scissors can precisely intercalate and functionalize bulk Te. The resulting nano-Te has high morphological entropy, rich surface functional groups, and broad light absorption. We also constructed foam hydrogels based on poly (vinyl alcohol)/nano-Te, which achieved an evaporation rate and energy efficiency of 4.11 kg m-2 h-1 and 128%, respectively, under 1 sun irradiation. Furthermore, the evaporation rate was maintained in the range 2.5-3.0 kg m-2 h-1 outdoors under 0.5-1.0 sun, providing highly efficient evaporation under low light conditions.

Cardiovascular syphilis manifests many years after primary infection. Here, we report the successful treatment of a patient who developed syphilitic aortitis with bilateral coronary ostial stenosis and aortic insufficiency. The patient underwent right coronary artery bypass grafting, left main coronary ostial "open" stent placement, and mechanical aortic valve placement during open-heart surgery.

Magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) with conventional bulk ferromagnets separated by a nonmagnetic insulating layer are key building blocks in spintronics for magnetic sensors and memory. A radically different approach of using atomically-thin van der Waals (vdW) materials in MTJs is expected to boost their figure of merit, the tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR), while relaxing the lattice-matching requirements from the epitaxial growth and supporting high-quality integration of dissimilar materials with atomically-sharp interfaces. We report TMR up to 192% at 10 K in all-vdW Fe3GeTe2/GaSe/Fe3GeTe2 MTJs. Remarkably, instead of the usual insulating spacer, this large TMR is realized with a vdW semiconductor GaSe. Integration of semiconductors into the MTJs offers energy-band-tunability, bias dependence, magnetic proximity effects, and spin-dependent optical-selection rules. We demonstrate that not only the magnitude of the TMR is tuned by the semiconductor thickness but also the TMR sign can be reversed by varying the bias voltages, enabling modulation of highly spin-polarized carriers in vdW semiconductors.

Dextrocardia is a rare cardiac malposition that was first described in 1606. Mirror-image dextrocardia is characterized by a mirror-image change of the normal position of the heart. Most cases are accompanied by situs inversus viscerum, whereas only 3% to 10% of cases are associated with intracardiac anomalies. Valve surgery for acquired valvular lesions in patients with mirror-image dextrocardia with situs inversus is rare. Diagnosing situs anomalies in adults is important to prevent errors during surgical operations, emergency procedures, or interventional operations. In this report, we present two cases of mitral regurgitation in patients with mirror-image dextrocardia. One patient had mirror-image dextrocardia with subacute infective endocarditis and mitral regurgitation, and the other patient had mirror-image dextrocardia with mitral Carpentier type I regurgitation. In both patients, mitral valve repair was successfully performed using a transseptal approach.

Antireflective (AR) films are widely applied in solar cells to reduce the reflectivity toward sunlight, thus improving the photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE) of solar cells. However, AR films are still suffering from poor mechanical properties and low transmittance in photovoltaic applications. Herein, a ZrO2-SiO2 composite film with enhanced mechanical properties was successfully synthesized by a facile sol-gel method, whose pencil hardness increased from less than 6B to B compared with the pure SiO2 film synthesized with the same alkali-catalyzed method. Moreover, the ZrO2-SiO2 film with a Zr/Si mole ratio (nZr/Si) of 0.06 exhibited a high transmittance gain (ΔT) of 3.0%, and an obvious increase (1.32%) in PCE was observed in a perovskite solar cell compared with the cell covered by a bare glass. Additionally, both the short-circuit current density (JSC) and PCE of perovskite solar cells have a non-linear increasing relationship with the average transmittance (Tavg) of the ZrO2-SiO2 composite film. In this sense, this work can provide a facile way to prepare AR films effectively improving performances of solar cells.

Introduction: Exploring the public's cognition toward carbon neutrality is conducive to improving the quality and effectiveness of policymaking, and promoting the realization of carbon neutrality goals. This study aims to explore the public's attention and sentiment toward carbon neutrality from the perspective of social psychology. Methods: Using posts on carbon neutrality from the Chinese social media platform Sina Weibo as the data source, this study uses statistical analysis, the Mann-Kendall method, keyword analysis, the BERT model, and the LDA model to explore public attention and sentiment. Results: The results show that: (1) men, people living east of the Hu line (economically developed regions), and the public in the energy finance market are more concerned about carbon neutrality; (2) high public attention and great dynamic changes in public attention toward carbon neutrality could be trigged by highly credible government or international governmental organizations' information; (3) public sentiment toward carbon neutrality is mostly positive; however, specific topics affect public sentiment differently. Discussion: The research results contribute to policymakers' better understanding of the trend of public attention and sentiment toward carbon neutrality, and support improvements in the quality and impact of policymaking.

While there are many reports on partial aortic root remodelling, it is rarely performed for chronic aortic dissection of the coronary artery. This case report describes a 71-year-old male patient with chronic aortic dissection who was admitted to hospital due to repeated palpitations and chest distress. He had a long-term occlusion of the right coronary artery and an abnormal origin of the left vertebral artery. A carefully planned surgical strategy was arranged for this patient, and the surgical experience is described and discussed herein. Briefly, the patient was treated by aortic root repair plus ascending aorta replacement plus Sun's procedure plus left vertebral artery graft implantation plus coronary artery bypass graft (right coronary artery to saphenous vein to innominate artery). At approximately 6 months following surgery, the patient had returned to normal living conditions without any reports of discomfort.

Charge transfer plays a key role at the interfaces of heterostructures, which can affect electronic structures and ultimately the physical properties of the materials. However, charge transfer is difficult to manipulate externally once the interface is formed. The recently discovered van der Waals ferromagnets with atomically sharp interfaces provided a perfect platform for the electrical control of interfacial charge transfer. Here, we report magnetoresistance experiments revealing electrically tunable charge transfer in Fe3GeTe2/Cr2Ge2Te6/Fe3GeTe2 all-magnetic van der Waals heterostructures, which can be exploited to selectively modify the switching fields of the top or bottom Fe3GeTe2 electrodes. The directional charge transfer from metallic Fe3GeTe2 to semiconducting Cr2Ge2Te6 is revealed by first-principles calculations, which remarkably modifies the magnetic anisotropy energy of Fe3GeTe2, leading to the dramatically suppressed coercivity. The electrically selective control of magnetism demonstrated in this study could stimulate the development of spintronic devices based on van der Waals magnets.

The concept design evaluation phase of the new product launch is extremely important. However, current evaluation information relies mainly on the a priori knowledge of decision makers and is subjective and ambiguous. For this reason, a conceptual design solution decision model based on Pythagorean fuzzy sets in a big data environment is proposed. Firstly, we use the ability of big data to mine and analyze information to construct a new standard for product concept design evaluation in the big data environment. Secondly, the Pythagorean fuzzy set (PFS), Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) are integrated into a decision model. AHP, extended by the Pythagorean fuzzy set, is used to determine the weights of new conceptual design criteria in a big data environment. The Pythagorean fuzzy TOPSIS is used to prioritize alternative conceptual design solutions. The feasibility of the approach is proven with a practical case, the generalizability of the method is confirmed with two descriptive digital cases, and the reliability, validity, and superiority of the process are demonstrated with sensitivity analysis, comparative analysis, and computational complexity analysis.

Intravascular transplantation of human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) demonstrated a significant therapeutic effect in the treatment of restenosis by the paracrine function of extracellular vesicles (EVs). However, the risk of tumorigenicity and poor cell survival limits its clinical applications. In this study, we for the first time applied a highly efficient and robust three-dimensional (3D) protocol for hiPSC differentiation into endothelial cells (ECs) with subsequent isolation of EVs from the derived hiPSC-EC (ECs differentiated from hiPSCs), and validated their therapeutic effect in intimal hyperplasia (IH) models. We found that intravenously (iv) injected EVs could accumulate on the carotid artery endothelium and significantly alleviate the intimal thickening induced by the carotid artery ligation. To elucidate the mechanism of this endothelial protection, we performed miRNA expression profiling and found out that among the most conserved endothelial miRNAs, miR-126 was the most abundant in hiPSC-EC-produced EVs (hiPSC-EC-EV). MiR-126 depletion from hiPSC-EC-EV can hinder its protective effect on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in an inflammatory process. A variety of functional in vitro studies revealed that miR-126 was able to prevent endothelial apoptosis after inflammatory stimulation, as well as promote EC migration and tube formation through autophagy upregulation. The latter was supported by in vivo studies demonstrating that treatment with hiPSC-EC-EV can upregulate autophagy in mouse carotid artery ECs, thereby preventing IH and modulating vascular homeostasis via remodeling of the vascular intima. Our findings suggest a regulatory mechanism for the therapeutic effect on arterial restenosis by autophagy regulation, and provide a potential strategy for clinical treatment of the disease.

The unpredictable coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has led to a sudden and massive demand for face masks, leading to severe plastic pollution. Here, we propose a method for manufacturing biodegradable masks using high-precision 3D printing technology, called "TRespirator", mainly made of banana leaves and dental floss silk fibers. By adding plastic recycling waste appropriately, TRespirator can achieve similar protection and mechanical properties as N95 masks. In addition, microorganisms attracted during the degradation of plant fibers will accelerate the degradation of microplastics. This respirator provides a new idea for solving the global problem of plastic pollution of masks.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the relationship between cervical vertigo and vestibular function evaluated by vestibular evoked myogenic potentials(VEMPs) and analyze the correlations between cervical vertigo and vestibular dysfunction, discuss the related factors of cervical vertigo and guide the clinical treatment of patients with cervical vertigo. METHODS: A total of 75 patients with cervical vertigo as the main complaint in the outpatient clinic of the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University from August 2019 to July 2020 were set as the diseased group, and 60 patients without cervical and vestibular related diseases in the hospital were selected to set as non-diseased group. The age of diseased group was 12 to 70 years with an average of (46.40±10.91) years, including 25 males and 50 females;and the age of non-diseased group was 22 to 60 years with an average of(43.78±7.75) years, including 19 males and 51 females. VEMPs were performed in the two groups. The data of VEMPs were collected and the results were compared and analyzed. The patients with abnormal cervical myogenic vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP) were divided into light, moderate and severe groups. The correlation between VEMPs and cervical vertigo and its severity were analyzed by statistical method. RESULTS: (1)The severity of cervical vertigo in diseased group:33 cases of mild, 34 cases of moderate, 8 cases of severe; cVEMP examination:62 cases were positive and 13 cases were negative, including 13 cases of mild, 33 cases of moderate, 16 cases of severe. The cVEMP of non-diseased group:4 cases were positive and 56 cases were negative.(2) The level of cVEMP in diseased group was higher than that in non-diseased group (P<0.001). It can be considered that there was a correlation between cervical vertigo and vestibular function.(3)The correlation between the level of cVEMP and the level of cervical vertigo in diseased group was analyzed. The Spearman rank sum test was used, and the correlation coefficient was 0.687, which was statistically significant (P<0.05). And it can be considered that the two indicators have a high degree of correlation. CONCLUSION: It is feasible to evaluate the relationship between cervical vertigo and vestibular function by VEMPs. For patients with cervical vertigo, the higher the severity, the greater the positive rate of VEMPs, which indicates that it has a greater impact on vestibular function. The treatment of patients with cervical vertigo should be the combination of cervical rehabilitation and vestibular function.

Among the numerous two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) magnetic materials, Fe3GeTe2 (FGT), due to its outstanding properties such as metallicity, high Curie temperature and strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, has quickly emerged as a candidate with the most potential for the fabrication of all-vdW spintronic devices. Here, we fabricated a simple vertical homojunction based on two few-layer exfoliated FGT flakes. Under a certain range of external magnetic fields, the magnetization reversal can be achieved by applying a negative or positive pulse current, which can reduce the coercivity through the spin orbit torque of FGT itself in addition to the Joule heat. Moreover, the asymmetrical switching current is caused by the spin transfer torque in the homojunction. As the temperature increases, the magnetization reversal can be observed at a smaller external magnetic field. Our demonstrations of the current-assisted magnetization reversal under a magnetic field in all-vdW structures may provide support for the potential application of vdW magnetism.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is the most significant subtype of esophageal cancer featured with high occurrence. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been proved to modulate the biological properties of cancer cells, including cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and apoptosis. LncRNA protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type G-antisense RNA 1 (PTPRG-AS1) has been reported to play as an oncogene in diverse cancers. However, the detailed function PTPRG-AS1 may exert in ESCC is unclear. METHODS: PTPRG-AS1 expression in ESCC cells was investigated via quantitative reverse transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The effects of PTPRG-AS1 on ESCC cell proliferation, migration, glycolysis, and stemness were verified through functional assays. Mechanism assays including RIP assay, RNA pull down assay, and luciferase reporter assays were performed to verify the molecular mechanism of PTPRG-AS1. RESULTS: PTPRG-AS1 silencing hindered the proliferation, migration, glycolysis and stemness of ESCC cells. PTPRG-AS1 regulated pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 1 (PDK1) expression via sponging miR-599. The PTPRG-AS1/miR-599/PDK1 axis was further verified to aggravate the progression of ESCC cells. CONCLUSION: PTPRG-AS1 sponged miR-599 to up-regulate PDK1 expression, thereby promoting the proliferation and migration as well as glycolysis and stemness properties of ESCC cells.
