RESUMO

Polydimethyldiallylammonium chloride (PDDA) is an excellent flocculant for wastewater purification and sludge dewatering, but whether it poses a threat to hydrogen production from waste activated sludge is not known. In this study, the effect and underlying mechanism of PDDA on the dark fermentation of sludge was investigated. The results showed that PDDA reduced cumulative hydrogen production from 3.8±0.1 to 2.4±0.1 mL/g volatile suspended solids at 40 g/kg total suspended solids. PDDA impeded the dark fermentation process by inhibiting the activity of key enzymes, presenting a stronger inhibitory effect on the hydrogen production process than the hydrogen consumption process. Additionally, PDDA inhibited Firmicutes by enriching other microorganisms, thereby impeding hydrogen production via the acetate pathway. This study deepens the understanding of the potential effects of PDDA on sludge treatment and provides a theoretical basis for alleviating the negative effects of quaternary ammonium-based cationic flocculants.

RESUMO

Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) is a vital optical device for measuring atmospheric wind and temperature, which is widely used worldwide for its simple structure and excellent accuracy. Nevertheless, the working environment of FPI could be light polluted by many factors, such as light from street lamp and moon, which results in distortion for realistic airglow interferogram and thus affects the accuracy for the wind and temperature inversion. We simulate the FPI interferogram and invert the correct wind and temperature from the full interferogram and three parts of it. Further analysis is performed using real airglow interferograms observed at Kelan (38.7°N, 111.6°E). Distortion interferograms cause temperature deviations, while the wind is not affected. A correction method is presented to correct the distortion interferogram by making it more homogeneous. The corrected interferogram is calculated again, and the result shows that the temperature deviation of the different parts is reduced significantly. Wind and temperature errors of each part are reduced compared to the previous ones. This correction method will help improve the accuracy of the FPI temperature inversion when the interferogram is distorted.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to assess the feasibility and efficacy of laparoscopic extravascular stent in treatment of nutcracker syndrome by transperitoneal or retroperitoneal approach. METHODS: Seventy-six patients with nutcracker syndrome were retrospectively enrolled from a tertiary referral center, and underwent transperitoneal (63 patients) or retroperitoneal (13 patients) laparoscopic extravascular stent from March 2011 to December 2020. Surgical parameters, complications, imaging and clinical outcomes were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: All procedures were successfully carried out without open conversion. The median operation time, estimated blood loss, and postoperative hospital day were 120 (interquartile range [IQR]: 90-144) min, 20 (IQR: 10-30) ml, and 7 (IQR: 6-9) days. At a median follow-up of 52 (range: 9-127) months, 60 (79%) patients had complete symptom resolution, 14 (18%) patients had significant symptom improvement, and 2 (3%) patients reported no symptom improvement. Ninety-four percent (50/53) of hematuria, 91% (30/33) of proteinuria, and 89% (25/28) of flank/abdominal pain resolved after extravascular LRV stenting. No significant differences were detected in surgery parameters and recovery rates of clinical symptoms between two approaches (each p > 0.05). However, patients with transperitoneal approach need longer to achieve complete recovery compared with retroperitoneal approach (8.7 vs. 1.5 months, p = 0.016). CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic extravascular stent performed either transperitoneally or retroperitoneally is a feasible and effective option in treatment of nutcracker syndrome. Retroperitoneal laparoscopic extravascular stent required shorter time to achieve complete recovery, which should be considered whenever possible in surgical decision-making.

RESUMO

Fruit wine has certain health care functions, but fruit wine made from a single fruit or vegetable does not have a good enough color, flavor or nutrient composition. Therefore, this study used fresh carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) and pomegranate (Punica granatum) as raw materials to explore the brewing process of carrot and pomegranate compound wine. The fermentation technology of the composite carrot and pomegranate wine was optimized by a single-factor experiment and Box-Behnken design (BBD), which provided a theoretical foundation for the fermentation of this wine. As per the results, the alcohol content of this composite carrot and pomegranate wine was 12.35% vol. under the optimum fermentation conditions of 28 °C initial temperature, 24% initial sugar content, and with the addition of 64 mg L-1 sulfur dioxide (SO2). In the fermented fruit and vegetable wine, a total of 30 aroma components were detected; 21 composites (such as bornyl acetate, caryophyllene and 3-(2-nitrophenylmethyl)-2-thiazolidinone) were newly generated. The relative content of alcohol flavor composites (such as propionic acid 2-methyl-3-hydroxy-2,2,4-trimethylpentan-1-ol, 2-methyl-2-ethyl-3-hydroxycyclohexyl propanoate and terpinene-4-ol) showed an upward trend, and the relative content of alkene components increased significantly after fermentation. The findings of this study provide an experimental foundation for optimizing fermentation technology and for improving the product quality of composite carrot and pomegranate wine.

RESUMO

The Tongbai Mountains are an ecologically sensitive region to climate change, where there lies a climatic transitional zone from a subtropical to a warm−temperate monsoon climate. The northern boundary of Pinus taiwanensis Hayata is here; thus, climate information is well recorded in its tree rings. Based on developed earlywood width (EWW), latewood width (LWW) and total ring width (RW) chronologies (time period: 1887−2014 year) of Pinus taiwanensis Hayata in the Tongbai Mountains in central China, this paper analyzed characteristics of these chronologies and correlations between these chronologies and climate factors. The correlation results showed that earlywood width chronology contains more climate information than latewood width chronology and total ring width chronology, and mean temperature and mean maximum temperature in May−June were the main limiting factors for radial growth of Pinus taiwanensis Hayata. The highest significant value in all correlation analyses is −0.669 (p < 0.05) between earlywood width chronology and May−June mean temperature (TMJ) in the pre-mutation period (1958−2005) based on mutating in 2006. Thus, this paper reconstructed May−June mean temperature using earlywood width chronology from 1901 to 2005 (reliable period of earlywood width chronology is 1901−2014). The reconstructed May−June mean temperature experienced eight warmer periods and eight colder periods and also showed 2−3a cycle change over the past 105 years. The spatial correlation showed that the reconstructed series was representative of the May−June mean temperature variation in central and eastern China and significant positive/negative correlation with the sea surface temperature (SST) of the subtropical Pacific Ocean and the tropical Western Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean from the previous October to the current June. This also indicated that May−June mean temperature periodic fluctuations might be related to the quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO) in the tropical Western Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean. The results of this study have extended and supplemented the meteorological records of the Tongbai Mountains and have a guiding significance for forest tending and management in this area.

RESUMO

The stability of aggregates is of great significance to evaluate water and soil environment in regions plan-ting economic fruit forest. We explored the effects of economic fruit forest types on the structure and stability of soil aggregates in the 0-50 cm soil layer from 5-year-old Amygdalus persica, Pyrus sorotina, Citrus reticulata, Camellia oleifera and Actinidia chinensis forests in the hilly area in northern Hunan. The content, distribution characteristics and stability indices of soil aggregates from each economic fruit forest were quantitatively analyzed by the Shavinov method. The results showed that most soil aggregates were mechanically stable, with a minimum content of 92.3%. After wet sieving, the size of water-stable aggregates in the soil from Camellia oleifera forest was mainly >2 mm, accounting for 55.9% of the total aggregates. The 0.25-2 mm aggregates were the dominant particles in the A. persica, P. sorotina, C. reticulata and A. chinensis forest soils, with contributions higher than 43.6%. The mean weight diameter (MWD) and the geometric mean diameter (GMD) of soil aggregates for the five economic fruit forest types ranged from 1.10 to 3.19 mm and 0.61 to 2.28 mm, respectively. Furthermore, the percentages of soil aggregate destruction (PAD) and fractal dimension (D) were in the range of 2.9%-37.3% and 2.30-2.68, respectively. With the increases of soil depth, the stability of soil aggregates from A. persica, C. oleifera and A. chinensis forest soils became worse; MWD and GMD decreased by 1.7%-57.7% and 4.5%-65.8%, respectively; PAD and D increased by 0.4%-17.3% and 1.6%-11.1%, respectively. The effects of economic fruit forest types on the stability of soil aggregates decreased with increasing soil depth. Based on the stability indices, aggregate stability from five economic fruit forests followed the order of C. oleifera > A. chinensis > P. sorotina > C. reticulata > A. persica. The type of economic fruit forest improved the stability of soil structure mainly by affecting the content of large-size aggregates. In terms of improving the distribution and stability of soil aggregates, it was suggested that C. oleifera should be given the top priority as the economic fruit forest in the subtropical hilly area, followed by A. chinensis. Whereas A. persica planting might reduce the degree of soil agglomeration, thus, the protective measures of soil loss should be considered during planting. Our results could provide theoretical basis and application guidance for the development, utilization, and ecological management of economic fruit forests in subtropical hilly areas.

RESUMO

We investigated the effects of interplanting on soil aggregate distribution and stability of red soil in economic orchard in a new-constructed slope land, based on 12 kiwifruit planting experi-mental plots with a slope of about 12°, a length of 18 m, and a width of 1.5 m. Three types of interplanting patterns were implemented by interplanting purple sweet potato (PSP), hairy vetch (HV), and weeds (W) for three years, respectively, taking the bare land with no vegetation as control (CK) to determine the aggregate indicators at 0-15 cm soil layer. The results showed that the quantity and size of soil water stabilized aggregates (WR>0.25) all tended to increase which ranked in the order of PSP>HV>W>CK. The order of soil aggregate structure damage rate (PAD) and fractal dimension (D) were CK>W>HV>PSP, indicating that soil aggregate in PSP was the most stable, followed by HV treatment. Along the downslope, the content of WR>0.25, mean weight diameter (MWD), and geometric mean diameter (GMD) all tended to decrease, while the PAD and D increased, indicating that soil structure turned to be poorer in downslope of the new-constructed slope land. D was negatively correlated with MWD, GMD, and the content of >0.25 mm aggregates. It was concluded that interplanting could increase the quantity and size of soil aggregates, improve soil structure and soil quality of economic orchard in hilly slope land.
