RESUMO

Species distribution models (SDMs) are powerful tools that can predict potential distributions of species under climate change. However, traditional SDMs that rely on current species occurrences may underestimate their climatic tolerances and potential distributions. To address this limitation, we developed an integrated framework that incorporates eco-evolutionary data into SDMs. In our approach, the fundamental niches of species are constructed by their realized niches in different periods, and those fundamental niches are used to predict potential distributions of species. Our framework includes multiple phylogenetic analyses, such as niche evolution rate estimation and ancestral area reconstruction. These analyses provide deeper insights into the responses of species to climate change. We applied our approach to the Chrysanthemum zawadskii species complex to evaluate its efficacy through comprehensive performance evaluations and validation tests. Our framework can be applied broadly to species with available phylogenetic data and occurrence records, making it a valuable tool for understanding species adaptation in a rapidly changing world.•Integrating the niches of species in different periods estimates more complete climatic envelopes for them.•Combining eco-evolutionary data with SDMs predicts more comprehensive potential distributions of species under climate change.•Our framework provides a general procedure for species with phylogenetic data and occurrence records.

RESUMO

As climate changes increasingly influence species distributions, ecosystem functions, and biodiversity, the urgency to understand how species' ranges shift under those changes is great. Species distribution models (SDMs) are vital approaches that can predict species distributions under changing climates. However, SDMs based on the species' current occurrences may underestimate the species' climatic tolerances. Integrating species' realized niches at different periods, also known as multi-temporal calibration, can provide an estimation closer to its fundamental niche. Based on this, we further proposed an integrated framework that combines eco-evolutionary data and SDMs (phylogenetically-informed SDMs) to provide comprehensive predictions of species range shifts under climate change. To evaluate our approach's performance, we applied it to a group of related species, the Chrysanthemum zawadskii species complex (Anthemidae, Asteracee). First, we investigated the niche differentiation between species and intraspecific lineages of the complex and estimated their rates of niche evolution. Next, using both standard SDMs and our phylogenetically-informed SDMs, we generated predictions of suitability areas for all species and lineages and compared the results. Finally, we reconstructed the historical range dynamics for the species of this complex. Our results showed that the species and intraspecific lineages of the complex had varying degrees of niche differentiation and different rates of niche evolution. Lineage-level SDMs can provide more realistic predictions for species with intraspecific differentiation than species-level models can. The phylogenetically-informed SDMs provided more complete environmental envelopes and predicted broader potential distributions for all species than the standard SDMs did. Range dynamics varied among the species that have different rates of niche evolution. Our framework integrating eco-evolutionary data and SDMs contributes to a better understanding of the species' responses to climate change and can help to make more targeted conservation efforts for the target species under climate change, particularly for rare species.

RESUMO

Device-to-device (D2D) communication is a promising wireless communication technology which can effectively reduce the traffic load of the base station and improve the spectral efficiency. The application of intelligent reflective surfaces (IRS) in D2D communication systems can further improve the throughput, but the problem of interference suppression becomes more complex and challenging due to the introduction of new links. Therefore, how to perform effective and low-complexity optimal radio resource allocation is still a problem to be solved in IRS-assisted D2D communication systems. To this end, a low-complexity power and phase shift joint optimization algorithm based on particle swarm optimization is proposed in this paper. First, a multivariable joint optimization problem for the uplink cellular network with IRS-assisted D2D communication is established, where multiple DUEs are allowed to share a CUE's sub-channel. However, the proposed problem considering the joint optimization of power and phase shift, with the objective of maximizing the system sum rate and the constraints of the minimum user signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), is a non-convex non-linear model and is hard to solve. Different from the existing work, instead of decomposing this optimization problem into two sub-problems and optimizing the two variables separately, we jointly optimize them based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Then, a fitness function with a penalty term is established, and a penalty value priority update scheme is designed for discrete phase shift optimization variables and continuous power optimization variables. Finally, the performance analysis and simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is close to the iterative algorithm in terms of sum rate, but lower in power consumption. In particular, when the number of D2D users is four, the power consumption is reduced by 20%. In addition, compared with PSO and distributed PSO, the sum rate of the proposed algorithm increases by about 10.2% and 38.3%, respectively, when the number of D2D users is four.

RESUMO

A species complex is an assemblage of closely related species with blurred boundaries, and from which species could arise from different speciation processes and/or a speciation continuum. Such a complex can provide an opportunity to investigate evolutionary mechanisms acting on speciation. The Chrysanthemum zawadskii species complex in China, a monophyletic group of Chrysanthemum, consists of seven species with considerable morphological variation, diverse habitats and different distribution patterns. Here, we used Hyb-Seq data to construct a well-resolved phylogeny of the C. zawadskii complex. Then, we performed comparative analyses of variation patterns in morphology, ecology and distribution to investigate the roles of geography and ecology in this complex's diversification. Lastly, we implemented divergence time estimation, species distribution modelling and ancestral area reconstruction to trace the evolutionary history of this complex. We concluded that the C. zawadskii complex originated in the Qinling-Daba mountains during the early Pliocene and then spread west and northward along the mountain ranges to northern China. During this process, geographical and ecological factors imposing different influences resulted in the current diversification and distribution patterns of this species complex, which is composed of both well-diverged species and diverging lineages on the path of speciation.

RESUMO

Mobility, group awareness, and temperature are considered as the important factors that may impact the increase in confirmed cases of the COVID-19[1]. This paper aims to verify the above factors on the COVID-19 and show the possible confounding factors of each research variable in reality. Based on this, we collected data about the epidemic from January 20, 2020 to February 24, 2021, including the relevant data of 31 provinces and regions in China. Plus, we use the directed acyclic graph (DAG)[2] to show the causal relationship between the above influencing factors and the confirmed daily epidemic cases, and the confounding is estimated based on DAG. The effective adjustment set of factors are used to perform the regression of the total causal effect among the explanatory variables and the confirmed cases of the epidemic using negative binomial regression. Through the comprehensive causal analysis of the decisive factors for the COVID-19, we provide strong evidence for population mobility, group awareness and the impact of weather on the epidemic, and estimates the possible confounding factors in all aspects of society. Incorporating the above factors, we provide suggestions for future decisions on the prevention of large-scale epidemics.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of oblique needling at Ashi-point on behavior, and cell morphology, myogenic differentiation antigen (MyoD1) and paired box transcription factor Pax7 (Pax7) of quadriceps femoris tissue in quadriceps femoris injured mice. METHODS: A total of 24 C57BL/6 male mice were randomly divided into control, model, shallow insertion and deep insertion groups, with 6 mice in each group. The quadriceps femoris injury model was established by single intramuscular injection of 0.5% bupivacaine (BPVC). Twenty-four hours after modeling, mice of the two acupuncture groups were received oblique needling on the surface or through the muscle belly of quadriceps femoris for once, the oblique needling was lifted and inserted 3 times. The climbing pole test was conducted 24 h after modeling and 24 h after EA. Histopathological changes of quadriceps femoris was observed by H.E. staining. The expressions of MyoD1 and Pax7 were detected by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the score of climbing pole test was lower (P<0.01), and the expressions of MyoD1 and Pax7 significantly increased (P<0.01) in the model group. After the intervention and compared with the model group, the score of climbing pole test was higher (P<0.01), and the expressions of MyoD1 and Pax7 obviously increased (P<0.01) in the two acupuncture groups. The therapeutic effect of deep insertion group was apparently superior to that of shallow insertion group in up-regulating the climbing pole test score and expressions of MyoD1 and Pax7 (P<0.05, P<0.01). H.E. stain showed large areas of inflammatory infiltration, muscle cells swelling, atrophy, rupture, degeneration and necrosis, different cell sizes and morphologies, enlarged intervals, nuclear aggregation, deep nuclear staining, nuclear pyknosis, and hemorrhage in the model group, which was relatively milder in both needling groups. CONCLUSION: Oblique needling at Ashi-point can effectively promote the benign repair of injured quadriceps muscle and promote the recovery of exercise ability in mice, which may be associated with its effect in up-regulating the expression of MyoD1 and Pax7 protein. The role of deep insertion is superior to that of shallow insertion.

RESUMO

Sophorolipids (SLs) are homologous microbial secondary metabolites produced by Starmerella bombicola and have been widely applied in many industrial fields. The biosynthesis of SLs is a highly aerobic process and is often limited by low dissolved oxygen (DO) levels. In this study, the Vitreoscilla hemoglobin (VHb) gene was transformed into S. bombicola O-13-1 by homologous recombination to alleviate oxygen limitation. VHb expression improved the intracellular oxygen utilization efficiency under either oxygen-rich or oxygen-limited conditions. In shake flask culture, the production of SLs was higher in the recombinant (VHb+) strain than in the wild-type (VHb-) strain, while the oxygen uptake rate of the recombinant (VHb+) strain was significantly lower than that of the wild-type (VHb-) strain. In a 5 L bioreactor, the production of SLs did not increase significantly, but the DO level in the fermentation broth of the VHb+ strain was 21.8% higher than that of VHb- strain under oxygen-rich conditions. Compared to wide-type strains (VHb-), VHb expression enhanced SLs production by 25.1% in the recombinants (VHb+) under oxygen-limited conditions. In addition, VHb expression raised the transcription levels of key genes involved in the electron transfer chain (NDH, SDH, COX), TCA cycle (CS, ICD, KDG1) and SL synthesis (CYP52M1 and UGTA1) in the recombinant (VHb+) strains. VHb expression in S. bombicola could enhance SLs biosynthesis and intracellular oxygen utilization efficiency by increasing ATP production and cellular respiration. Our findings highlight the potential use of VHb to improve the oxygen utilization efficiency of S. bombicola in the industrial-scale production of SLs using industrial and agricultural by-products like molasses and waste oil as fermentation feedstock.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The choice of anesthesia for cesarean section is very important. AIM: To compare the effects of applying bupivacaine combined with different doses of fentanyl on newborns after cesarean section. METHODS: We randomly divided one hundred and twenty patients undergoing cesarean section into the following 4 groups: group B (bupivacaine group), group BF10 (bupivacaine combined with 10 µg fentanyl), group BF30 (bupivacaine combined with 30 µg fentanyl) and group BF50 (bupivacaine combined with 50 µg fentanyl). The heart rate, mean arterial pressure, block plane fixation time and sensory block time were recorded. Umbilical artery blood was then collected immediately after fetal delivery for blood gas analysis and qualitative detection of fentanyl. Additionally, data on the neonatal 1-min and 5-min Apgar scores, results of umbilical artery blood gas analysis and qualitative detection of fentanyl in umbilical artery blood were recorded. RESULTS: Although the mean arterial pressure decreased in all four groups at 3 min after anesthesia, the percentage of the decrease was less than 20% of the baseline. In addition, there were no significant differences in the 1-min or 5-min Apgar scores or the umbilical artery blood gas analysis among the four groups (P > 0.05). Moreover, the concentration of fentanyl in umbilical artery blood was qualitatively detected using an ELISA kit, and the results in the four groups were negative. CONCLUSION: Bupivacaine combined with fentanyl spinal anesthesia is effective in cesarean section.

RESUMO

Temperature is one of the climatic factors that shape the geographic distribution of plant populations. Mangroves are temperature-sensitive plants, and their distributions are severely limited by low temperatures. It is unknown, however, to what extent temperature contributes to their population differentiation and evolution. Kandelia obovata (Rhizophoraceae) is a mangrove species with high cold tolerance in the Northern Hemisphere. We investigated the phenotypic responses of an artificial population of K. obovata, with plants transplanted from different source populations, to extremely low temperatures during winter of 2015-2016 in Yueqing County (28°20'N), Zhejiang Province of China. Using two binary traits, "with/without leaves alive on the branches" and "with/without alive buds on the tips of branches," we classified plants in this artificial population into strong, moderate and poor cold resistance groups. We further assessed the genetic diversity, structure and differentiation of these three groups, as well as five natural populations along a latitudinal gradient using ten nuclear and six plastid microsatellite markers. Microsatellite data revealed genetic differentiation among the natural populations along the latitudinal gradient. Molecular data indicated that the cold tolerance of three groups in the artificial population was associated with their geographic origins, and that the most cold-tolerant group came from the northernmost natural population. Our study thus indicates that natural populations of K. obovata may have evolved divergent capacity of cold tolerance.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical efficacy of soft-tissue relaxing needling and electroacupuncture (EA) in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA), so as to explore a new and more effective therapy for KOA. METHODS: Forty patients with KOA who met our diagnostic criteria were randomly and equally divided into acupuncture group and soft-tissue relaxing needling (relaxing-needling) group. EA (20 Hz, a tolerable strength and duration of 20 min) was applied to the unilateral Neixiyan(EX-LE5) and Waixiyan(EX-LE5), and manual acupuncture stimulation was applied to Heding(EX-LE2), Xuehai (SP10), Xiyangguan (GB33), Liangqiu(ST34), Yanglingquan(GB34) and Yinlingquan(SP9) on the affected side by using uniform reinforcing-reducing technique. In the relaxing-needling group, after identifying the tender point and nodule-like or stiff-strip-muscle spot at the affected limb by palpation, we used filiform needles to insert into them, then, made a longitudinal separation or point-like pricking. The visual analog scale (VAS) pain score, knee flexion activity (range of motion, ROM), and the knee osteoarthritis severity (Lequesne index, composed of daily living, walking distance and pain) were measured before and after the treatment. The therapeutic effect was assessed by consulting the Guiding Principles for Researching New Drugs of Traditional Chinese Medicine (2002) and Criteria for Diagnosis and Assessment of Therapeutic Effect of Syndromes or Illnesses of Traditional Chinese Medicine (1994). RESULTS: After the treatment, the VAS score and Lequesne index were significantly decreased in both acupuncture and relaxing-needling groups (P<0.001), and the ROM score was considerably increased in both groups in comparison with their own pre-treatment (P<0.001). The difference values of VAS score and Lequesne index between pre- and post-treatment were significantly higher in the relaxing-needling group than in the acupuncture group (P<0.05). Of the two 20 cases in the relaxing-needling and acupuncture groups, 8 and 3 experienced a remarkable improvement in their symptoms, 10 and 13 were effective, 2 and 4 failed, with the effective rate being 90.0% and 80.0%, respectively. No significant difference was found between the two groups in the difference value of ROM score and the effective rate (P>0.05).. CONCLUSION: Both relaxing-needling and EA therapies are comparable in the therapeutic effect for KOA, and the former is superior to the latter in reducing the joint pain and improving the knee joint locomotor function, thus being worthy of clinical application.

RESUMO

Epilepsy is the third-leading cause of psychiatry disability in China, and intellectual disability (ID) is also 1 major type of disabilities in China. This study estimates the prevalence of comorbidities with ID and epilepsy-related psychiatry disability (EPD) and examines mutual associations within ID and EPD.Data were taken from the Second China National Sample Survey on Disability, which was a nationally representative, population-based survey. To derive a nationally representative sample, the survey used multistage, stratified, cluster random sampling with probability proportional to size. The disabled people who had ID and EPD based on the World Health Organization International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health and the International Statistical Classification of Diseases. The cox-proportional hazards model was used to examine the associations between ID and EPD considering the happened sequence of ID and EPD.The prevalence of ID with EPD was 0.14 (95% confidence interval: 0.09-0.19) per 1000 people. Age was strongly associated with the risk of EPD, which was diagnosed after ID, especially among young ID population. Except for age, other variables were also associated between ID and EPD considering sequence of ID and EPD.This study is the first national study to explore mutual associations with ID and EPD and highlights the young ID children with high risk of development of epilepsy. To address the challenge of ID with EPD disability in China, the government should adjust its strategies for healthcare systems to prevent disability.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of acupuncture stimulation of Ashi-point on hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) protein expression in gastrocnemius muscle (GM) in rats with traumatic injury of GM, so as to reveal its mechanism underlying improvement of traumatic injury of skeletal muscle. METHODS: A total of 80 SD rats were randomly divided into normal control (n = 8), model, acupuncture control, and acupuncture treatment groups, and the latter 3 groups were further allocated to 0 h, 24 h and 48 h subgroups (n = 8 in each subgroup). The acute soft tissue contusion model was established by using 500 g-counterweight free falling hitting at the GM of the right leg (height 30 cm). The Ashi-point was punctured with a piece of filiform needle by penetrating the site beside the injured GM, and stimulated for about 5 seconds. For acupuncture control group, acupuncture was performed in the same Ashi-point in normal rats. Pathological changes of the focal GM were observed by H. E. staining and HGF protein expression of GM was detected by Western blot. RESULTS: H.E. staining showed that different degrees of injury of GM tissue including broken muscle fibers with cellular swelling, inflammatory cell infiltration, muscle fibrinolysis, atrophy, degeneration and necrosis, etc., were found at each time-point after modeling, while in the acupuncture treatment group, the severity of muscle injury was relatively milder particularly at the time-points of 24 h and 48 h. Compared with the normal control group, HGF protein expression levels of GM at the 3 time-points in the model group, and at 48 h in the acupuncture control group were markedly increased (P<0.05, P<0.01); while in comparison with the model group, HGF protein expression levels were remarkably down-regulated at 24 h and 48 h after acupuncture treatment (P<0.01, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture stimulation of Ashi-point can significantly down-regulate HGF protein expression in the GM in soft tissue contusion rats, which may contribute to its effects in relieving contusion injury of skeletal muscle.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To examine the clinical features of hypoparathyroidism (HP) with altered serum muscle enzymes and explore the correlations with age, gender, disease duration, serum total calcium, serum total phosphorus and parathyroid hormone (PTH). METHODS: From January 2005 to October 2011, a total of 41 HP patients at our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: There were 16 patients with elevated serum muscle enzymes and 25 with normal serum muscle enzymes. The former group included 11 patients of idiopathic hypoparathyroidism (IHP) and 5 of pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP); serum calcium was (1.53 ± 0.25) mmol/L and serum phosphorus (2.1 ± 0.6) mmol/L; medians of creatine kinase (CK), lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), aspartate amino transfer enzymes (AST) were 309 (126 - 10 046), 279 (131 - 741) and 27 (17 - 467) U/L in HP patients respectively. And the latter group included 20 IHP patients and 5 PHP ones; serum calcium was (1.64 ± 0.29) mmol/L and serum phosphorus (2.2 ± 0.6) mmol/L. The levels of serum muscle enzyme were compared before and after treatment in the former group. And they significantly declined with the rising serum level of calcium after treatment. The serum levels of CK (r = -0.82), LDH (r = -0.55) and AST (r = -0.56) in HP patients with elevated serum muscle enzymes had a negative correlation with the serum level of calcium (all P < 0.05). And there was no correlation with age, gender, disease duration or serum total phosphorus (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Elevated serum muscle enzymes in HP patients have a negative correlation with serum level of calcium and there is no correlation with age, gender, disease duration, serum total phosphorus or parathyroid hormone. And elevated serum muscle enzymes are gradually restored with the normalized serum level of calcium.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) or manual acupuncture of unilateral or bilateral "Zusanli" (ST 36) on the contents of serum inflammatory factors interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and anti-inflammatory factors interleukin 2 (IL-2), interleukin 4 (IL-4) and interleukin 10 (IL-10), so as to reveal their mechanism underlying improvement of chronic arthritis. METHODS: Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into normal control, model, electroacupuncture (EA)-left (L) Zusanli (ST 36), EA-bilateral (Bi)-ST 36,and manual acupuncture (MA)-L-ST 36 groups (12 rats/group). Arthritis model was established by subcutaneous injection of complete Freund's adjuvant (0.1 mL)into the hindpaw. EA (2 Hz/100 Hz, 1-3 mA, pulse duration: 0.6 ms/0.2 ms) or manual needle stimulation was applied to the left or bilateral "Zusanli" (ST 36) for 30 min, twice every week for 4 weeks. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect the contents of serum IL-1beta, TNF-alpha, IL-2, IL-4 and IL-10, respectively. RESULTS: Compared with the normal control group, the contents of serum inflammatory factors IL-1beta and TNF-alpha, anti-inflammatory factors IL-4 and IL-10 were increased significantly in the model group (P < 0.001). In comparison with the model group, serum IL-1beta, TNF-alpha, IL-4 and IL-10 contents were down-regulated considerably in the EA-L-ST 36, EA-Bi-ST 36 and MA-L-ST 36 groups (P < 0.001, P < 0.005). Serum IL-2 content had no apparent changes after modeling in comparison with the normal group (P > 0.05). While serum IL-2 contents were markedly higher in the EA-L-ST 36, EA-Bi-ST 36 and MA-L-ST 36 groups than in the model group (P < 0.05). No significant differences were found among the EA-L-ST 36, EA-Bi-ST 36 and MA-L-ST 36 groups in serum IL-1beta, TNF-alpha, IL-2, IL-4 and IL-10 contents (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: EA or manual acupuncture stimulation of single or bilateral ST 36 can effectively down-regulate serum inflammatory factors IL-1beta and TNF-alpha levels, and upregulate anti-inflammatory factor IL-2 level in chronic arthritis rats, which may contribute to their effects in relieving chronic arthritis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the role of passive leg raising (PLR) test in predicting volume responsiveness in severe sepsis and septic shock patients. METHODS: Thirty severe sepsis and septic shock patients in intensive care unit (ICU) of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital were prospectively observed from February 2009 to January 2010. The hemodynamics including stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO) and systemic vascular resistance (SVR) were measured non invasively by ultrasonic cardiac output monitor (USCOM) device in the supine position, during PLR and after volume expansion (VE), and invasive arterial blood pressure and central venous pressure (CVP) were monitored consecutively. Responders were defined by the appearance of an increase in SV (ΔSV) ≥ 15% after VE. The role of PLR for predicting volume responsiveness was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS: The CVP (cm H(2)O, 1 cm H(2)O=0.098 kPa) during PLR was increased compared with that at supine position in both responder group ( n =15) and non responder group ( n =15, 13.6 ± 6.6 vs. 12.1 ± 6.0, 11.9 ± 5.5 vs. 10.8 ± 5.2 , both P <0.01). ΔSV was higher in responder group than in non responder group during PLR [(16.6 ± 5.5)% vs. (3.8 ± 8.2)%, P=0.000].ΔSV during PLR was highly correlated to ΔSV after VE (r =0.681 , P =0.000).The area under the ROC curve (AUC) for PLR predicting volume responsiveness was 0.944 ± 0.039 ( P =0.000). The ΔSV>11% during PLR was found to predict volume responsiveness with a sensitivity of 86.7%, specificity of 93.3%, positive predictive value of 92.9% and negative predictive value of 87.5%. CONCLUSION: PLR can be used generally to predict volume responsiveness accurately in severe sepsis and septic shock patients, and it can be used to direct clinical practice.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on hippocampal nitric oxide (NO)-cyclic guanosine 3,5-monophosphate (cGMP) signaling pathway in depression rats in order to explore the underlying mechanism of EA in improving depression. METHODS: Thirty male SD rats were equally randomized into control, model and EA groups. Depression model was established by using chronic unpredictable mild stress stimulation (forced ice-water swimming, electric shock, tail-clamping, etc.) combined with lonely raising for 21 days. EA (2 Hz, 0.6 mA, 20 min) was applied to "Baihui" (GV 20) and "Yintang" (EX-HN 3), once daily for 21 days. The expression of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and the content of cGMP in the hippocampus were determined by immuno-histochemistry and radioimmunoassay separately. RESULTS: Many nNOS immuno-reaction (IR)-positive granular cells were observed in the hippocampus in control group, fewer found in EA group and fewest in model group. Image analysis showed that the grey value of model group was significantly higher than that of control group (P < 0.01), and that of EA group was obviously lower than that of model group (P < 0.01), suggesting upregulation of nNOS expression after EA. Compared with control group the content of cGMP in hippocampus in model group showed a decreasing trend, but without significant difference between two groups (P > 0.05). In comparison with model group, hippocampal cGMP content of EA group increased considerably (P < 0.01), being comparable to that of control group (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Electroacupuncture of "Baihui" (GV 20) and "Yintang" (EX-HN 3) can upregulate the expression of nNOS and the content of cGMP in the hippocampus in depression rats, maintaining a normal activity of the NO/cGMP signaling pathway, which may contribute to its effect in relieving depression.

RESUMO

The drug release profiles of poly(dimer acid-dodecanedioic acid) P(DA-DDDA) copolymer containing 5% adriamycin hydrochloride (ADM) in vitro were evaluated. The biocompatibility of P(DA-DDDA) under mice skin was also evaluated, macroscopic observation and microscopic analysis demonstrated that the copolymer is biocompatible and well tolerated in vivo. Antitumor efficacy of P(DA-DDDA) copolymers containing 5% adriamycin hydrochloride (ADM) implanted subcutaneously in mice bearing Sarcoma-180 tumor exhibited increased volume doubling time (VDT) (31 +/- 1.5 days) compared to plain subcutaneous injection of ADM (7 +/- 0.9 days). The studies suggest that P(DA-DDDA) copolymer as an effective carrier for antineoplastic drug like adriamycin hydrochloride has a very good prospect in the treatment of noumenon tumors.

RESUMO

An investigation on the community diversity of soil arthropods in the forest-steppe ecotone of north Hebei Province was conducted. A total of 10 420 individuals of soil arthropods were collected, which belonged to 25 groups, 6 classes and 24 orders. Acarina and Collembola were the dominant orders, and there were 8 groups of frequent orders and 15 groups of rare orders. The diversity index (H'), DG index, and evenness of soil arthropod community were relatively higher in forest zone, but lower in meadow-steppe zone. Soil pH had a higher degree of interconnection with the numbers of soil arthropod groups, while soil temperature and moisture content had a higher degree of interconnection with the numbers of soil arthropod individuals.

RESUMO

New unsaturated polyesters of poly(fumaric acid-glycol-dodecanedioic acid) P(FA-GLY-DDDA) copolymers, poly(fumaric acid-glycol-brassylic acid) P(FA-GLY-BA) copolymers, poly(fumaric acid-glycol-tetradecanedioic acid) P(FA-GLY-TA) copolymers and poly(fumaric acid-glycol-pentadecanedioic acid) P(FA-GLY-PA) copolymers were prepared by melt polycondensation of the corresponding mixed monomers: fumaric acid, glycol and one of C(12-15) dibasic acids. The copolymers were characterized by FT-IR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and the surface structure of unsaturated polyesters after solidify were studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The molecular structure and composition of the unsaturated polyesters were determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy. In vitro studies showed that some of the copolymers are degradable in phosphate buffer at 37 degrees C and have properly drug release rate as drug carriers. The biocompatibility of P(FA-GLY-DDDA) and P(FA-GLY-BA) copolymers under mice skin was also evaluated, macroscopic observation and microscopic analysis demonstrated that the copolymer is biocompatible and well tolerated in vivo. Antitumor efficacy of P(FA-GLY-DDDA) copolymers and P(FA-GLY-BA) copolymers containing 5% adriamycin hydrochloride (ADM) in mice bearing Sarcoma-180 tumor exhibited increased volume doubling time (VDT) (22+/-1.5 days and 24+/-2.5 days) compared to plain subcutaneous injection of ADM (7+/-0.9 days). The antitumor efficacy of injecting P(FA-GLY-DDDA)-ADM inside tumor twice intervened in 22 days exhibited an especially increased cytotoxic effect as revealed by increased VDT (33+/-2.5 days), and the antitumor efficacy of injecting P(FA-GLY-BA)-ADM inside tumor twice intervened in 24 days exhibited an especially increased cytotoxic effect as revealed by increased VDT (35+/-1.5 days). The studies suggested that P(FA-GLY-DDDA) copolymers and P(FA-GLY-BA) copolymers as effective and injectable carriers for antineoplastic drug like adriamycin hydrochloride have a very good foreground in the treatment of noumenon tumor.
