RESUMO

During the last few years, PTB has developed the electronic dosemeter DOS-2002. It is of an especially simple design (1 silicon detector) and detects the photon and neutron personal dose equivalent with a low detection threshold of 0.016 and 10 microSv, respectively. Its dosimetric characteristics have been determined in neutron fields with energies ranging from thermal energies up to 15 MeV and in photon fields with mean energies from 65 keV to 7 MeV. It can be used in a wide temperature region from -20 degrees C to +50 degrees C, shows almost no interference in electromagetic fields but is still shock sensitive.

RESUMO

The population of the highly industrialized countries have access to an increasing range of possibilities for influencing their own state of health in both positive and negative ways. Health maintenance behavior is part of a general 'way of life' which is determined by chosen life styles. While the clients of professional social work may have a more restricted range of options, the interdependence of their individual life situations and health disposition remains a factor in their case as well, usually with negative results. There is a constant mediation of social disorders in somatic disorders (and vice versa, especially in cases of chronic illness, disability and addiction). This paper discusses aspects of assessment, coping styles and social support along the socio-psycho-somatic axis. There are many arguments for a conscious integration of health promotion into social work practice in general.

RESUMO

By using three-photon excitation at 291.7 nm of the n = 4 hydrogen level and observing Balmer-beta radiation at 486.1 nm, hydrogen atoms in an atmospheric C(2)H(2)/O(2) flame have been detected. Other schemes for hydrogen detection were also tried, and the results are discussed.

RESUMO

Basic principles for the extension of gas-correlation techniques to the lidar situation are discussed. Favorable signal-to-noise ratios and relaxed laser requirements characterize the technique. Preliminary experiments on atomic mercury are reported.

RESUMO

Tubercles were seen in the spleen of a male dusky langur (Presbytis obscurus) on laparotomy. Subsequently, tuberculous lesions in the intestine, lungs, and a hilar lymph node were observed on necropsy of the monkey. Histologic examinations of these tissues revealed granulomas, and acid-fast bacilli were observed within granulomas in replicate sections that were stained with auramine-O. An acid-fast organism was isolated and identified as Mycobacterium bovis. Guinea pigs and rabbits inoculated intraperitoneally with the organism developed granulomas in the lungs, liver, and spleen. Lesions did not develop in chickens inoculated with the culture.
