RESUMO

The development of efficient hydrogen storage materials is crucial for advancing hydrogen-based energy systems. In this study, we prepared a highly innovative palladium-phosphide-modified P-doped graphene hydrogen storage material with a three-dimensional configuration (3D Pd3P0.95/P-rGO) using a hydrothermal method followed by calcination. This 3D network hindering the stacking of graphene sheets provided channels for hydrogen diffusion to improve the hydrogen adsorption kinetics. Importantly, the construction of the three-dimensional palladium-phosphide-modified P-doped graphene hydrogen storage material improved the hydrogen absorption kinetics and mass transfer process. Furthermore, while acknowledging the limitations of primitive graphene as a medium in hydrogen storage, this study addressed the need for improved graphene-based materials and highlighted the significance of our research in exploring three-dimensional configurations. The hydrogen absorption rate of the material increased obviously in the first 2 h compared with two-dimensional sheets of Pd3P/P-rGO. Meanwhile, the corresponding 3D Pd3P0.95/P-rGO-500 sample, which was calcinated at 500 °C, achieved the optimal hydrogen storage capacity of 3.79 wt% at 298 K/4 MPa. According to molecular dynamics, the structure was thermodynamically stable, and the calculated adsorption energy of a single H2 molecule was -0.59 eV/H2, which was in the ideal range of hydrogen ad/desorption. These findings pave the way for the development of efficient hydrogen storage systems and advance the progress of hydrogen-based energy technologies.

RESUMO

The main aim of this study is to analyze antioxidant properties of Polygonatum odoratum fermented with bacteria, fungi and yeast. Antioxidant activities (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging, hydroxyl radical scavenging, and anti-lipid peroxidation abilities) were assessed in samples of flavones isolated from fermented P. odoratum (Mill.) druce samples. Fermentations using Lactobacillus, yeast and Aspergillus were investigated. Results showed that the antioxidant ability of Polygonatum odoratum flavones was decreased by the fermentation of Lactobacillus and yeast. Aspergillus niger fermentation improved the antioxidant ability of P. odoratum flavones. In this study, effective antioxidant activity was achieved in flavones fermented with Aspergillus niger than yeast and Lactobacillus species.

RESUMO

Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce (POD) is a natural plant widely used for food and medicine, thanks to its rich content of a strong antioxidant agent called homoisoflavones. However, food processing methods could affect the stability of POD flavones, resulting in changes to their antioxidant activity. This study attempts to evaluate the antioxidant activity of POD flavones subject to different processing methods and determines which method could preserve the antioxidant activity of POD flavones. Therefore, flavones were extracted from POD samples, which had been treated separately with one of the four processing methods: extrusion, baking, high-pressure treatment, and yeast fermentation. After that, the antioxidant activity of the flavones was subject to in vivo tests in zebrafish embryos. The results show that yeast fermentation had the least disruption to the antioxidant activity of POD flavones, making it the most suitable food processing method for POD. By contrast, extrusion and high-pressure treatment both slightly weakened the antioxidant activity of the flavones and should be avoided in food processing. The research results provide a reference for the development and utilization of POD and the protection of its biological activity.

RESUMO

Lithium metal batteries have achieved large-scale application, but still have limitations such as poor safety performance and high cost, and limited lithium resources limit the production of lithium batteries. The construction of these devices is also hampered by limited lithium supplies. Therefore, it is particularly important to find alternative metals for lithium replacement. Sodium has the properties of rich in content, low cost and ability to provide high voltage, which makes it an ideal substitute for lithium. Sulfur-based materials have attributes of high energy density, high theoretical specific capacity and are easily oxidized. They may be used as cathodes matched with sodium anodes to form a sodium-sulfur battery. Traditional sodium-sulfur batteries are used at a temperature of about 300 °C. In order to solve problems associated with flammability, explosiveness and energy loss caused by high-temperature use conditions, most research is now focused on the development of room temperature sodium-sulfur batteries. Regardless of safety performance or energy storage performance, room temperature sodium-sulfur batteries have great potential as next-generation secondary batteries. This article summarizes the working principle and existing problems for room temperature sodium-sulfur battery, and summarizes the methods necessary to solve key scientific problems to improve the comprehensive energy storage performance of sodium-sulfur battery from four aspects: cathode, anode, electrolyte and separator.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: This paper aims to estimate the incubation period and serial intervals for SARS-CoV-2 based on confirmed cases in Jiangxi Province of China and meta-analysis method. METHODOLOGY: Distributions of incubation period and serial interval of Jiangxi epidemic data were fitted by "fitdistrplus" package of R software, and the meta-analysis was conducted by "meta" package of R software. RESULTS: Based on the epidemic data of Jiangxi, we found the median days of incubation period and serial interval were 5.9 days [IQR: 3.8 - 8.6] and 5.7 days [IQR: 3.6 - 8.3], respectively. The median days of the infectivity period at pre-symptomatic was 1.7 days [IQR: 1.1 - 2.4]. The meta-analysis based on 64 papers showed the pooled means of the incubation period and serial interval were 6.25 days (95% CrI: 5.75 - 6.75) and 5.15 days (95% CrI: 4.73 - 5.57), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Our results contribute to a better understanding of COVID-19 and provide useful parameters for modelling the dynamics of disease transmission. The serial interval is shorter than the incubation period, which indicates that the patients are infectious at pre-symptomatic period, and isolation of detected cases alone is likely to be difficult to halt the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

RESUMO

What is known about this topic? Dengue fever is an acute febrile illness caused by four types of dengue virus (DENV 1-4), and is a mosquito-borne infectious disease. The incidence of dengue has increased dramatically around the world in recent decades. An estimated of 3.9 billion people in 128 countries are at risk of infection with dengue viruses, 70% of whom are in Asia. In 2017, the first local infections of dengue virus (DENV-2) in Jiangxi Province was reported in Zhanggong District, Ganzhou City. What is added by this report? From August to September 2019, the first dengue outbreak happened in Xin'gan County, where 81 local dengue fever cases were reported, 35 were laboratory-confirmed cases, and 46 were clinically-diagnosed cases; all cases were dengue virus type 1. The DENV-virus strains isolated from the cases of Xin'gan County were close to the strains isolated in Singapore (MF033254|25657|Singapore|2016) and Henan (MK905537|Henan201903|China: Henan Province|2019). What are the implications for public health practice? The outbreak might have been caused by imported cases or covert infections. The outbreak in Xin'gan County indicated that more proactive countermeasures should be taken during the dengue epidemic period such as intensifying surveillance for dengue cases, virus serotype, and Aedes vector density and strengthening cooperation with customs and tourism departments. Moreover, the outbreak should prompt training in medical institutions and improved ability for doctor's to diagnose dengue fever, which is very important for early detection of dengue cases and taking preventive measures.

RESUMO

We investigated the effects of chitosan-based coatings on the preservation quality of refrigerated Chinese shrimp for 12 days. Samples of Chinese shrimp were subjected to three different coating treatments, namely chitosan (CH), chitosan and ε-polylysine (CH + Îµ-PL), chitosan combined with ε-polylysine and carrageenan (CH + Îµ-PL + CA), and compared with a control. The bacteriological characteristics [total viable count (TVC)], chemical indexes including pH, thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value, K-value, and total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), texture (hardness, chewiness, and elasticity), and sensory changes were assessed. The increases in TVC, pH, TBA, K-value, and TVB-N were observed to be delayed by preservation treatments, and the textural and sensory characteristics indicated that the treated shrimp were preserved more effectively than the control. Treatment with chitosan combined with ε-polylysine and carrageenan was the most effective preservation method than treatment with chitosan alone or chitosan and ε-polylysine; the shelf life was also prolonged. Therefore, treatment with chitosan combined with ε-polylysine and carrageenan is proposed as a potential method for shelf life extension of Chinese shrimp for refrigerated storage.

RESUMO

The gene polymorphisms of human being will cause abnormality in the expression of corresponding gene, which is closely related to the physiological function and disease. Cytochrome P450, cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase are vital enzymes that mediated the oxidative metabolism process for exogenous chemicals, and play important roles in activating the indirect carcinogens and metabolizing clinical drug; the gene polymorphisms of these enzymes can change the expression and activity of enzymes, affect the metabolic transformation of carcinogens, and then give rise to difference in the susceptibility to neoplasms. Studying the relationship between the gene polymorphisms of oxidative metabolism enzyme for endogenous and exogenous chemicals and the susceptibility to neoplasms can provide scientific basis for probing into the genetic markers and the pathogenesis of neoplasms.

RESUMO

A method was developed for the determination of four insecticide residues in honey and royal jelly by gas chromatography-negative chemical ionization mass spectrometry (GC-NCI/MS). The honey and royal jelly samples were treated with different preparation methods as the result of the different components. The honey sample was extracted with ethyl acetate and cleaned up with primary second amine, and the royal jelly sample was extracted with acetonitrile-water (1:1, v/v), and cleaned up with a C18 solid-phase extraction column. Finally, the extracts of the honey and royal jelly were analyzed by GC-NCI/MS in selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode separately. External standard calibration method was used for quantification. The linearities of calibration curves of the four insecticides were good with the correlation coefficients greater than 0.99 in the range of 50-500 microg/L. The limits of the detection (LODs) of the four insecticides were in the range of 0.12- 5.0 microg/kg, and the limits of the quantification (LOQs) were in the range of 0.40-16.5 microg/kg. The recoveries of the four insecticides spiked in honey and royal jelly at three spiked levels (10, 15 and 20 microg/kg) were in the range of 78.2 -110.0%, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) were all below 14%. The sensitivity and selectivity of this method were good with no interfering peaks. The proposed method is simple quick and effective to analyze the four insecticide residues in honey and royal jelly.

RESUMO

A confirmatory method was established for the determination of trifluralin residue in aquatic products and edible oils with the technique of offline disperse solid phase extraction and gas chromatography-negative chemical ionization mass spectrometry (DSPE-GC-MS/NCI). Trifluralin was extracted from aquatic products and edible oils with acetonitrile, and liquid-liquid partitioning formed by adding anhydrous magnesium sulfate followed by a simple cleanup step known as dispersive solid-phase extraction. The aliquot was analyzed by GC-MS/NCI using isotope internal standard method. The method was reliable and stable. The recoveries of trifluralin were in the range from 80% to 100% at three spiked levels of 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 microg/kg, and the RSDs were not more than 10.3%. The linearity of method was good from 1 to 40 microg/L, and the LOD was 0.02 microg/kg. This method can be used as a conclusive evidence method for the determination of trifluralin residue in aquatic products and edible oils.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the epidemic situation on schistosomiasis in five years after reaching the criteria of transmission control in 1995 in Dali City. METHODS: Epidemiological data of schistosomiasis during 1995-2000 were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: Stool positive rate in the population was increasing yearly, new cases of infection including cases under 14 years old were detected each year. Acute infection occurred during 1996-1998 consecutively. Stool positive rate in cattle was unstable. Snail-ridden area increased significantly in 1996 and spots with infected snails stayed at a higher level during 1997-2000. CONCLUSION: Schistosomiasis in Dali city has been re-emerging though it was once deemed under transmission control. Possible reasons include a low drug-taking rate though distributed, frequent movement of cattle population, and less activity on snail control.
