RESUMO

Sc2CO2 MXene has potential applications in energy storage and optoelectronics due to its superior structure and excellent properties. The electronic properties, quantum capacitance, and photocatalytic activity of Cr-doped Sc2CO2 under strain are studied by the density functional theory. Cr doping makes the system produce magnetism. The spin-down states of Sc2CO2-Cr under strain are direct semiconductors, while their spin-up states are indirect semiconductors. Sc2CO2-Cr under +5, -5, -3, and -2% strains in an aqueous system are suitable for cathode material. A large voltage drastically modulates the type of electrode materials. Sc2CO2-Cr under strains from 0 to +2% can perform the oxygen evolution reaction at an alkaline environment, while the Sc2CO2-Cr system under strain is a good for CO2 photocatalysis at pH 0 and 7.

RESUMO

Water-coal interactions are dominant factors that affect water quality in coal mines. Using lixiviation, the effects of water-coal interactions on pH, salinity, and hazardous elemental enrichment in coal mine water and associated trends were simulated and analyzed. The salinity and hazardous element contents were low in the alkaline solution filtrate. However, the salinity and contents of hazardous elements (As, Cr, Zn, Cu, Mn, Co, Ni, Cd, Pb, U, and Be) in acid solution filtrate increased significantly with a decrease in pH. The pH of the solution filtrate was affected by the mineral composition of the coal, wherein the pyrite content could generally determine the pH. In addition, the spatial distribution and utilization potential of coal mine water quality in China was determined based on water quality data surveys. For water-deficient regions in northern China, particularly in the northwest, the local mine water had high salinity, a high pH, and a low content of hazardous elements; therefore, the reuse of mine water for water consumption is feasible. Conversely, the mine water in the southwest region had high salinity and a low pH and was enriched in harmful elements with potential ecological and health risks. The actual water quality characteristics of the coal mine water matched the results of the laboratory simulation analysis, confirming the effect from water-coal interactions. This work provides a reference for understanding the determinants of coal mine water quality and the potential for water environment protection.

RESUMO

Coal resource utilization and environmental protection is a critical global issue. This study aims to address the need for geochemical maps of harmful trace elements (HTEs) in Chinese coalfields and to extract scientific information from these maps. Based on data extracted from the Trace Elements in Coal of China database, geochemical maps of As, Cd, Cr, F, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Se in Chinese coalfields were generated, for the first time, using the ArcGIS platform. Differences in regional HTE concentrations were attributed to multiple factors, including the type of coal-forming environment, terrigenous debris, and groundwater effect. However, on a national scale, the spatial distribution pattern of HTEs in coal is affected by the abundance of elements in the earth's crust. Herein, the enrichment anomaly of HTEs in coal were found to be significantly correlated with fault locations, and hydrothermal fluid action was characterized as the primary causal factor. HTE abundance in coal is the result of geochemical cycles in the earth's crust. Additionally, stratum fracture zones may serve as conduits and material sources for the migration of HTEs from deep layers to shallow layers, including coal seams. This study provides an essential reference for extensive map applications and coal environmental management while advancing our understanding of the spatial distribution patterns of chemical elements in coal.

RESUMO

In the present work, Pd-Pt nanoparticle/polyaniline/carbon nanotube (NP/PANI/CNT) composites, synthesized through the uniform distribution of Pd-Pt NPs, whose single size was controlled to 2-4 nm by citric acid, on a PANI/CNT compound, served as the electrode catalysts for effective methanol oxidation. The structural characteristics were identified by x-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy, and revealed that the Pt65Pd35 NP/PANI/CNT composite displayed superior electrocatalytic oxidation performance and vitality in various Pd-Pt NPs. The results indicated that as an excellent anode catalyst the complex would have application prospects for effective methanol oxidation.

RESUMO

Chemolithotrophic denitrification coupled to pyrite oxidation is regarded a key process in the removal of nitrate in aquifers. A common product is nitrite, which is a strong oxidant under acidic conditions. Nitrite may thus interfere with Fe(II) during acidic extraction, a procedure typically used to quantify microbial pyrite oxidation, in overestimating Fe(III) production. We studied the reaction between pyrite (5-125 mM) and nitrite (40-2000 µM) at pH 0, 5.5, and 6.8 in the absence and presence of oxygen. Significant oxidation of pyrite was measured at pH 0 with a yield of 100 µM Fe(III) after 5 mM pyrite was incubated with 2000 µM nitrite for 24 h. Dissolved oxygen increased the rate at pH 0. No oxidation of pyrite was observed at pH 5.5 and 6.8. Our data imply a cyclic model for pyrite oxidation by Fe(III) on the basis of the oxidation of residual Fe(II) by NO and NO2. Interference by nitrite could be avoided if nitrite was removed from the pyrite suspensions through a washing procedure prior to acidic extraction. We conclude that such interferences should be considered in studies on microbially mediated pyrite oxidation with nitrate.

RESUMO

In this study, the eggs and tissues of black-crowned night heron, little egret, Chinese pond heron and cattle egret were sampled from the Dashu, Yuantong and Taizi mountains in Hefei areas of Anhui Province in April to June 2004, and the residual amounts of Cd, Pb and Cr in the samples were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The results showed that the test heavy metals could be detected at high levels in the eggshell, egg contents, and tissues of most samples. Eggshell and bone were the two main sites for heavy metals enrichment. Eggshell had significantly higher residues of the heavy metals than egg contents, implying that heavy metals could be excreted by eggshells. The residues of heavy metals in eggshell ranked as Cr > Pb > Cd, and had significant differences among species. Of the three heavy metals, Cr showed the most variation among species, being the highest in eggshell of Chinese pond heron and the lowest in that of cattle egret, but in egg contents, there was no significant difference among species. The variation of Cr residues among species was the second, being the highest in the egg contents of Chinese pond heron but not detected in that of cattle egret. The residues of Pb among species varied little. Since eggshell was easy to collect, it was practical to use it as the indicator to assess the pollution status of wetlands.
