APOE ε4 is risk for cognitive decline even in normal aging, but its effect on the whole-brain functional connectivity (FC) among time in young adults remain elusive. This study aimed to validate the time-by-APOE ε4 interaction on brain FC of this specific population. Longitudinal changes in neuropsychological assessments and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging in 26 ε4 carriers and 26 matched non-ε4 carriers were measured for about 3 years. Whole-brain FC was calculated, and a full factorial design was used to compare the difference among groups. Two-sample t test was used for post-hoc analysis. Pearson's correlation analysis was conducted to investigate the relationships between FC and cognitive tests. Of 26 specially appointed ROIs, left superior temporal gyrus (TG) was most sensitive to the effect of time-by-gene interaction. Specifically, the alteration of FC was distributed between the left TG and right TG with GRF correction (voxel-P < 0.001, cluster-P < 0.05), and decreased in ε4 carriers while increased in non-ε4. The main effect of gene showed ε4 carriers has lower FC between left TG and right middle frontal gyrus as compared with non-ε4 both at baseline and follow-up study; ε4 carriers has lower FC between left TG and right supramarginal as compared with non-ε4 at baseline, but no difference in follow-up study. The time-by-APOE ε4 interaction on brain FC was demonstrated at a young age, and left TG was the earliest affected brain regions. The young adult ε4 carriers experience decreased FC among time in the absence overt clinical symptoms.

Salvage treatment for refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) has yet to be identified. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a salvage lenvatinib-based regimen for refractory mCRC. In total, 371 patients were categorized into lenvatinib-based and non-lenvatinib-based groups. In the lenvatinib-based group, patients who received lenvatinib at a dosage of 10 mg/day were categorized into lenvatinib/chemotherapy and lenvatinib/immunotherapy subgroups. We reported overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) using the Kaplan-Meier method. OS1 was used to measure the time from disease progression after TAS-102 and regorafenib treatment to death, while OS2 was used to measure the time from TAS-102 or regorafenib treatment to death. Propensity score matching analysis was employed to compare the characteristics between the lenvatinib-based and non-lenvatinib-based groups. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) information was analyzed using R software. The lenvatinib-based group exhibited longer OS than did the non-lenvatinib-based group (OS1, 11.4 vs. 3.7 months; OS2, 27.2 vs. 8.2 months). The disease control rate (DCR) and objective response rate (ORR) of the lenvatinib-based regimens were 69.4% and 6.1%, respectively. Lenvatinib/chemotherapy and lenvatinib/immunotherapy had similar PFS, OS, DCR, and ORR. The adverse effects were manageable. After propensity score matching, the lenvatinib-based group continued to exhibit significantly longer OS1 and OS2 than did the non-lenvatinib-based group. NGS analysis revealed that GNAS and KRAS alterations were associated with a worse treatment response and prolonged survival, respectively. In conclusion, a moderate-dose salvage lenvatinib-based regimen demonstrated promising clinical activity and tolerability in treating refractory mCRC.

BACKGROUND: Locally advanced rectal tumors are typically treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Short-course chemoradiotherapy (SCRT, 2,500 cGy in five fractions) is a convenient alternative to concurrent chemoradiotherapy with long-course radiotherapy (CCRT, 4,500 cGy in 25 fractions) without sacrificing efficacy. We aimed to compare the short-term outcomes of SCRT and CCRT in patients with mid- and low- rectal tumors who underwent total mesorectal excision using real-world data. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the data of patients with locally advanced rectal cancer who underwent radical resection after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy from 2011 to 2022. We analyzed the clinicopathological findings and prognostic factors for disease-free and overall survival in the SCRT and CCRT groups and compared the outcomes using propensity score matching. RESULTS: Among the 66 patients in the two groups, no disparities were noted in the demographic features, pathological remission, or downstaging rates. Nonetheless, the SCRT group exhibited superior 3-year disease-free survival (81.8% vs. 62.1%, p = 0.011), whereas the overall survival did not differ significantly between the two groups. The initial carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) levels and neoadjuvant SCRT were associated with the recurrence rates [hazard ratio (HR) 1.13-4.10; HR 0.19-0.74], but the harvested lymph node count was not (HR 0.51-1.97). CONCLUSION: Among patients with locally advanced rectal cancer, SCRT combined with four cycles of FOLFOX was shown to enhance short-term disease-free survival. Factors impacting recurrence include the initial CEA level and SCRT, but not the harvested lymph node count.

BACKGROUND: The clinical outcomes between left-sided colon cancer and middle/low rectal cancer seem to be different. This study aimed to examine the effect of primary tumor location regarding the left-sided colon and middle/low rectum on the overall survival (OS) of patients who underwent colorectal hepatic metastasectomy. METHODS: Patients who underwent colorectal hepatic metastasectomy were retrospectively enrolled. Patients were classified into 2 groups according to the primary tumor location (left-sided colon and middle/low rectum). Categorical variables were compared using the chi-square test or Fisher exact test, and continuous variables were analyzed using the Student t test. Survival was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. The prognostic factors were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analyses using Cox proportional hazards regression models. RESULTS: Overall, 365 patients were enrolled. Patients with left-sided colon cancer had significantly better OS than those with middle/low rectal cancer (hazard ratio [HR], 0.725; P = .018), with median OS estimates of 48 and 38 months, respectively. In the subgroup analysis of RAS mutations, patients with left-sided colon cancer had significantly prolonged OS compared with those with middle/low rectum cancer (HR, 0.608; P = .034), with median OS estimates of 49 and 26 months, respectively. This observation was limited to patients with RAS mutations. CONCLUSION: According to our findings, patients with middle/low rectal cancer had poorer survival outcome and should not be categorized together with patients with left-sided colon cancer in terms of OS after colorectal hepatic metastasectomy.

An alpha-proteobacterial strain JXJ CY 53 T was isolated from the cyanosphere of Microcystis sp. FACHB-905 (MF-905) collected from Lake Dianchi, China. JXJ CY 53 T was observed to be an aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, oval shaped, and mucus-secreting bacterium. It had C18:1ω7c and C16:0 as the major cellular fatty acids, Q-10 as the predominant ubiquinone, and sphingoglycolipid, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, and phosphatidylmethylethanolamine as the polar lipids. The G + C content of DNA was 65.85%. The bacterium had 16S rRNA gene sequence identities of 98.9% and 98.7% with Sphingomonas panni DSM 15761 T and Sphingomonas hankookensis KCTC 22579 T, respectively, while less than 97.4% identities with other members of the genus. Further taxonomic analysis indicated that JXJ CY 53 T represented a new member of Sphingomonas, and the species epithet was proposed as Sphingomonas lacusdianchii sp. nov. (type strain JXJ CY 53 T = KCTC 72813 T = CGMCC 1.17657 T). JXJ CY 53 T promoted the growth of MF-905 by providing bio-available phosphorus and nitrogen, plant hormones, vitamins, and carotenoids. It could modulate the relative abundances of nonculturable bacteria associated with MF-905 and influence the interactions of MF-905 and other bacteria isolated from the cyanobacterium, in addition to microcystin production characteristics. Meanwhile, MF-905 could provide JXJ CY 53 T dissolved organic carbon for growth, and control the growth of JXJ CY 53 T by secreting specific chemicals other than microcystins. Overall, these results suggest that the interactions between Microcystis and its attached bacteria are complex and dynamic, and may influence the growth characteristics of the cyanobacterium. This study provided new ideas to understand the interactions between Microcystis and its attached bacteria. KEY POINTS: • A novel bacterium (JXJCY 53 T) was isolated from the cyanosphere of Microcystis sp. FACHB-905 (MF-905) • JXJCY 53 T modulated the growth and microcystin production of MF-905 • MF-905 could control the attached bacteria by specific chemicals other than microcystins (MCs).

Lei's formula (LSF), a traditional Chinese herbal remedy, is recognized for its remarkable clinical effectiveness in treating osteoarthritis (OA). Despite its therapeutic potential, the exact molecular mechanisms underlying LSF's action in OA have remained enigmatic. Existing research has shed light on the role of the mTOR signaling pathway in promoting chondrocyte senescence, a central factor in OA-related cartilage degeneration. Consequently, targeting mTOR to mitigate chondrocyte senescence presents a promising avenue for OA treatment. The primary objective of this study is to establish LSF's chondroprotective potential and confirm its anti-osteoarthritic efficacy through mTOR inhibition. In vivo assessments using an OA mouse model reveal substantial articular cartilage degeneration. However, LSF serves as an effective guardian of articular cartilage, evidenced by reduced subchondral osteosclerosis, increased cartilage thickness, improved surface smoothness, decreased OARSI scores, elevated expression of cartilage anabolic markers (Col2 and Aggrecan), reduced expression of catabolic markers (Adamts5 and MMP13), increased expression of the chondrocyte hypertrophy marker (Col10), and decreased expression of chondrocyte senescence markers (P16 and P21). In vitro findings demonstrate that LSF shields chondrocytes from H2O2-induced apoptosis, inhibits senescence, enhances chondrocyte differentiation, promotes the synthesis of type II collagen and proteoglycans, and reduces cartilage degradation. Mechanistically, LSF suppresses chondrocyte senescence through the mTOR axis, orchestrating the equilibrium between chondrocyte anabolism and catabolism, ultimately leading to reduced apoptosis and decelerated OA cartilage degradation. LSF holds significant promise as a therapeutic approach for OA treatment, offering new insights into potential treatments for this prevalent age-related condition.

Excellent 3D printing materials must exhibit good extrudability and supportability, but these two characteristics are often contradictory. In this study, peach gum polysaccharide (PGP) was added to gelatin to prepare a 3D-printed functional gummy candy encapsulating curcumin. Rheology tests indicated that adding PGP could effectively improve the apparent viscosity and thermal stability and consequently improve the 3D printability and supportability of the products. When PGP addition was 6 %, the printing accuracy was higher than 90 %. Texture and microstructure analysis further revealed that PGP addition promoting a dense gel structure formed and the water holding capacity and supportability of gel materials were enhanced. Furthermore, the in vitro gastrointestinal digestion tests showed that after 6 h of simulated gastrointestinal fluid digestion, the retention rate of curcumin was nearly 80 %. The above results indicated that the composite gel of PGP and gelatin is a good 3D printing base material for nutrient delivery.

The prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) mostly relies on the classic tumor node metastasis (TNM) staging classification. A more accurate and convenient prediction model would provide a better prognosis and assist in treatment. From May 2014 to December 2017, patients who underwent an operation for CRC were enrolled. The proposed feature ensemble vision transformer (FEViT) used ensemble classifiers to benefit the combinations of relevant colonoscopy features from the pretrained vision transformer and clinical features, including sex, age, family history of CRC, and tumor location, to establish the prognostic model. A total of 1729 colonoscopy images were enrolled in the current retrospective study. For the prediction of patient survival, FEViT achieved an accuracy of 94 % with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.93, which was better than the TNM staging classification (90 %, 0.83) in the experiment. FEViT reduced the limited receptive field and gradient disappearance in the conventional convolutional neural network and was a relatively effective and efficient procedure. The promising accuracy of FEViT in modeling survival makes the prognosis of CRC patients more predictable and practical.

Recently, the study of the relationship between lipid metabolism and cancer has evolved. The characteristics of intratumoral and peritumoral fat are distinct and changeable during cancer development. Subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue are also associated with cancer prognosis. In non-invasive imaging, fat quantification parameters such as controlled attenuation parameter, fat volume fraction, and proton density fat fraction from different imaging methods complement conventional images by providing concrete fat information. Therefore, measuring the changes of fat content for further understanding of cancer characteristics has been applied in both research and clinical settings. In this review, the authors summarize imaging advances in fat quantification and highlight their clinical applications in cancer precaution, auxiliary diagnosis and classification, therapy response monitoring, and prognosis.

Orange carotenoid protein (OCP) is a photoactive protein that participates in the photoprotection of cyanobacteria. There are 2 full-length OCP proteins, 4 N-terminal paralogs (helical carotenoid protein [HCP]), and 1 C-terminal domain-like carotenoid protein (CCP) found in Nostoc flagelliforme, a desert cyanobacterium. All HCPs (HCP1 to 3 and HCP6) from N. flagelliforme demonstrated their excellent singlet oxygen quenching activities, in which HCP2 was the strongest singlet oxygen quencher compared with others. Two OCPs, OCPx1 and OCPx2, were not involved in singlet oxygen scavenging; instead, they functioned as phycobilisome fluorescence quenchers. The fast-acting OCPx1 showed more effective photoactivation and stronger phycobilisome fluorescence quenching compared with OCPx2, which behaved differently from all reported OCP paralogs. The resolved crystal structure and mutant analysis revealed that Trp111 and Met125 play essential roles in OCPx2, which is dominant and long acting. The resolved crystal structure of OCPx2 is maintained in a monomer state and showed more flexible regulation in energy quenching activities compared with the packed oligomer of OCPx1. The recombinant apo-CCP obtained the carotenoid pigment from holo-HCPs and holo-OCPx1 of N. flagelliforme. No such carotenoid transferring processes were observed between apo-CCP and holo-OCPx2. The close phylogenetic relationship of OCP paralogs from subaerial Nostoc species indicates an adaptive evolution toward development of photoprotection: protecting cellular metabolism against singlet oxygen damage using HCPs and against excess energy captured by active phycobilisomes using 2 different working modes of OCPx.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal brain metastases (CBMs) are rare with poor prognosis. There is still no standard systemic treatment for multiple or unresectable CBM. our study aimed to explore the impact of anti-VEGF therapy on overall survival, brain-specific disease control, and neurologic symptom burden in patients with CBM. METHODS: A total of 65 patients with CBM under treatment were retrospectively enrolled and divided into anti-VEGF based systemic therapy or non-anti-VEGF based therapy. A total of 25 patients who received at least 3 cycles of anti-VEGF agent and 40 patients without anti-VEGF therapy were analyzed by endpoints of overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), intracranial PFS (iPFS) and neurogenic event-free survival (nEFS). Gene expression in paired primary metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), liver, lung and brain metastasis from NCBI data was analyzed using top Gene Ontology (GO) and cBioPortal. RESULTS: Patients who treated with anti-VEGF therapy had significantly longer OS (19.5 vs. 5.5 months, P = .009), iPFS (14.6 vs. 4.1 months, P < .001) and nEFS (17.6 vs. 4.4 months, P < .001). Patients who received anti-VEGF therapy beyond any disease progression presented with superior OS (19.7 vs. 9.4 months, P = .039). Top GO and cBioPortal analysis revealed a stronger molecular function of angiogenesis in intracranial metastasis. CONCLUSIONS: Anti-VEGF based systemic therapy showed favorable efficacy that was reflected in longer overall survival, iPFS and NEFS in patients with CBM.

Purpose: Protective ileostomy and colostomy are performed in patients undergoing low anterior resection with a high leakage risk. We aimed to compare surgical, medical, and daily care complications between these 2 ostomies in order to make individual choice. Methods: Patients who underwent low anterior resection for rectal tumors with protective stomas between January 2011 and September 2018 were enrolled. Stoma-related complications were prospectively recorded by wound, ostomy, and continence nurses. The cancer stage and treatment data were obtained from the Taiwan Cancer Database of our Big Data Center. Other demographic data were collected retrospectively from medical notes. The complications after stoma creation and after the stoma reversal were compared. Results: There were 176 patients with protective colostomy and 234 with protective ileostomy. Protective ileostomy had higher proportions of high output from the stoma for 2 consecutive days than protective colostomy (11.1% vs. 0%, P<0.001). Protective colostomy resulted in more stoma retraction than protective ileostomy (21.6% vs. 9.4%, P=0.001). Female sex, open operation, ileostomy, and carrying stoma more than 4 months were also significantly associated with a higher risk of stoma-related complications during diversion. The incidence of complication after stoma reversal did not differ between colostomy group and ileostomy group (24.3% vs. 20.9%, P=0.542). Conclusion: We suggest avoiding colostomy in patients who are female and potential prolong diversion when stoma retraction is a concern. Otherwise, ileostomy should be avoided for patients with impaired renal function. Wise selection and flexibility are more important than using one type of stoma routinely.

In recent years, branched or star-shaped Au nanostructures composed of core and protruding arms have attracted much attention due to their unique optical properties and morphology. As the clinically adapted nanoagent, prussian blue (PB) has recently gained widespread attention in cancer theranostics with potential applications in magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. In this article, we propose a hybrid star gold nanostructure(Au-star@PB)as a novel theranostic agent for T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/ photoacoustic imaging(PAI) and photothermal therapy (PTT) of tumors. Importantly, the Au-star@PB nanoparticles function as effective MRI/PA contrast agents in vivo by increasing T1-weighted MR/PAI signal intensity and as effective PTT agents in vivo by decreasing the tumor volume in MCF-7 tumor bearing BALB / c mouse model as well as in vitro by lessening tumor cells growth rate. Interestingly, we found the main photothermal effect of Au-star@PB is derived from Au-star, but not PB. In summary, the hybrid structure of Au-star@PB NPs with good biological safety, significant photostability, dual imaging capability, and high therapeutic efficiency, might offer a novel avenue for the future diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Background: More and more evidence-based medicine has proved that Parkinson's disease (PD) patients of tremor-dominant (TD) and postural instability and gait difficulty (PIGD) subtype express great individual differences and heterogeneity. Early identification of different subtypes may be an important way to delay disease progression and improve patients' prognosis. Objective: The study aimed to compare the spectrum of motor symptoms (MS) and nonmotor symptoms (NMS) between TD and PIGD dominant in the early and middle stages of PD, and determine predictive factors that are associated with different motor subtypes. Methods: 292 PD patients in this study were divided into TD-PD and PIGD-PD, and the clinical characteristics between different motor subtypes were compared based on scales related to sleep, mood, and autonomic function. Univariate and multivariate ordered logistic regression analyses were used to analyze the independent influencing factors of disease severity between different motor subtypes. Through the establishment of binary logistic regression model, the potential independent risk factors for distinguishing TD-PD and PIGD-PD were studied. Results: Compared with TD subtype, patients with PIGD subtype have longer course of disease, higher disease severity, and higher daily dosage of levodopa. The severity of nontremor motor symptoms in PIGD-PD is greater than that of TD subtype. Only PIGD score was independently associated with disease severity for the two motor subtypes. Meanwhile, high scores (LED, total UPDRS, PIGD score, gastrointestinal, thermoregulatory, RBDSQ) and low tremor scores were the potential independent risk factors for distinguishing PIGD-PD from TD-PD. Conclusion: Specific nonmotor symptoms (RBD, gastrointestinal function and thermoregulation function) were associated with the PIGD subtype. Prompt detection and early treatment of NMSs related to the PIGD subtype based on the treatment of motor symptoms may improve patient outcomes.

Uncontrolled lithium dendrites seriously hinder the commercialization of lithium metal batteries in comparison to the durable lithium-ion batteries. Herein, inspired by squashy pomegranate structure, a novel loading strategy of metallic lithium (Li) is introduced to construct dendrite-free Li metal anodes through porous reduced graphene oxide/Au (PRGO/Au) composite microrods (MRs) as unique storage parcels. The abundant internal voids and robust host structure are capable of achieving high mass loading of Li metal and effectively alleviating the conceivable volume change during cycling, accompanied by the preferential selective plating/stripping of Li inside the graphene-based MRs with the embedded Au nanonuclei. As a result, the obtained PRGO/Au-Li anodes deliver a long-lifespan stable cycling up to 600 h with a high specific capacity of ≈2140 mA h g-1 and voltage hysteresis as low as 20 mV in the absence of dendrites. The assembled full cells exhibit excellent rate capability and cycling stability. This work provides an alternative strategy to construct advanced high-energy-density lithium batteries via the unique 1D bioinspired graphene-based packaging strategy.

Background: Three-dimensional (3D) laparoscopy was developed to overcome the drawbacks of two-dimensional (2D) laparoscopy, namely lack of depth perception. However, the benefit of 3D laparoscopy in colorectal surgery is inconclusive. Here, we compare the 3-year follow-up outcomes of 3D and 2D laparoscopic colectomy. Patients and Methods: A total of 91 consecutive patients who underwent either 3D or 2D laparoscopy colectomy from October 2015 to November 2017 by a single surgical team for colon cancer were enrolled. Data were collected from a prospectively constructed database, including clinico-pathological features and operative parameters. The pathological results, recurrence, survival and systemic treatment were collected from the Taiwan Cancer Database. Results: There were 47 patients in the 3D group and 44 in the 2D group. There were no significant differences in characteristics of patients, operation data, pathological results, complications, operative time, blood loss or the number of lymph node harvested between the two groups. In addition, disease-free survival and overall survival were equal between the two groups. Conclusions: This is the first long-term result of a 3D laparoscopic colectomy. In our 3-year follow-up, there was no difference in long-term outcomes between 2D and 3D laparoscopy for colorectal surgery in an experienced centre.

BACKGROUND: The microbiota in the cecum of laying hens is crucial for host digestion, metabolism, and odor gas production. The results of recent studies have suggested that host microRNAs (miRNAs) can regulate gene expression of the gut microbiota. In the present study, the expression profiles of host-derived miRNAs in the cecal content of two laying hen breeds; Hy-line Gray and Lohmann Pink, which have dissimilar H2S production, were characterized; and their effects on H2S production by regulating the expression of gut microbiota-associated genes were demonstrated. RESULTS: The differential expression of microbial serine O-acetyltransferase, methionine synthase, aspartate aminotransferase, methionine-gamma-lyase, and adenylylsulfate kinase between the two hen breeds resulted in lower H2S production in the Hy-line hens. The results also revealed the presence of miRNA exosomes in the cecal content of laying hens, and an analysis of potential miRNA-target relationships between 9 differentially expressed miRNAs and 9 differentially expressed microbial genes related to H2S production identified two methionine synthase genes, Odosp_3416 and BF9343_2953, that are targeted by gga-miR-222a. Interestingly, in vitro fermentation results showed that gga-miR-222a upregulates the expression of these genes, which increased methionine concentrations but decreased H2S production and soluble sulfide concentrations, indicating the potential of host-derived gga-miR-222a to reduce H2S emission in laying hens. CONCLUSION: The findings of the present study reveal both a physiological role by which miRNAs shape the cecal microbiota of laying hens and a strategy to use host miRNAs to manipulate the microbiome and actively express key microbial genes to reduce H2S emissions and breed environmentally friendly laying hens. Nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria are common in paddy fields, one of the most productive wetland ecosystems. Here, we present the complete genome of Nostoc sphaeroides, a paddy-field diazotroph used for food and medicine for more than 1700 years and deciphered the transcriptional regulation during the developmental transition from hormogonia to vegetative filaments with heterocysts. The genome of N. sphaeroides consists of one circular chromosome (6.48 Mb), one of the largest ever reported megaplasmids (2.34 Mb), and seven plasmids. Multiple gene families involved in the adaption to high solar radiation and water fluctuation conditions were found expanded, while genes involved in anoxic adaptation and phosphonate utilization are located on the megaplasmid, suggesting its indispensable role in environmental adaptation. Distinct gene expression patterns were observed during the light-intensity-regulated transition from hormogonia to vegetative filaments, specifically, genes encoding proteins involved in photosynthetic light reaction, carbon fixation, nitrogen metabolism and heterocyst differentiation were significantly upregulated, whereas genes related to cell motility were down-regulated. Our results provide genomic and transcriptomic insights into the adaptation of a filamentous nitrogen-fixing cyanobacterium to the highly dynamic paddy-field habitat, suggesting N. sphaeroides as an excellent system to understand the transition from aquatic to terrestrial habitats and to support sustainable rice production.

The mcr-1 and blaNDM-1 elimination in copper contamination poultry manure was evaluated by semi-permeable membrane composting. The results showed the mcr-1 in control and high copper groups could not be removed, but mcr-1 decreased superlatively 80.1% in low copper treatment group. BlaNDM-1 was increased after composting, especially the copper addition groups, the results indicated that the relative abundance of mcr-1 and blaNDM-1 was obviously different in the different pile layers of copper treatment groups. Three mobile gene elements (MEGs) correlated both mcr-1 and blaNDM-1,copB correlated mcr-1, czcA and copA correlated both mcr-1 and blaNDM-1. The major phyla were Firmicutes, Bacteroidota, Actinobacteriota and Proteobacteria in all layers. The correlation analysis showed that the antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) potential hosts could be influenced by copper form and physicochemical parameters. Semi-permeable membrane composting could decrease the abundance of major potential pathogens. Furthermore, the composting pile was not homogeneous by semi-permeable membrane composting.

A new hybrid system is proposed to capture CO2 as well as generate electricity with the low CO2 inlet condition of confined space. Within the system, a novel photocatalytic porous framework coated by g-C3N4/TiO2 is prepared to avoid the inhibition of microalgae growth caused by the direct addition of photocatalyst. Under 0.8% v/v CO2 inlet condition, chemical oxygen demand (COD) yields from the photocatalytic framework immersed in the phosphate buffer and the algae suspension are 1.63 mg L-1 h-1 and 1.90 mg L-1 h-1, respectively. CO2 sequestration rate of a 60L cylindrical photobioreactor increases from 12% to 22%. The combination modes between photobioreactor and photocatalytic framework can be selected flexibly depends on the demands of application. This hybrid system not only benefits to enhance the CO2 sequestration rate of photobioreactor but also has the potential to be served as the power source in a confined space.
