RESUMO

Although electronic textiles that can detect external stimuli show great promise for fire rescue, existing firefighting clothing is still scarce for simultaneously integrating reliable early fire warning and real-time motion sensing, hardly providing intelligent personal protection under complex high-temperature conditions. Herein, we introduce an "all-in-one" hierarchically sandwiched fabric (HSF) sensor with a simultaneous temperature and pressure stimulus response for developing intelligent personal protection. A cross-arranged structure design has been proposed to tackle the serious mutual interference challenge during multimode sensing using two separate sets of core-sheath composite yarns and arrayed graphene-coated aerogels. The functional design of the HSF sensor not only possesses wide-range temperature sensing from 25 to 400 °C without pressure disturbance but also enables highly sensitive pressure response with good thermal adaptability (up to 400 °C) and wide pressure detection range (up to 120 kPa). As a proof of concept, we integrate large-scalable HSF sensors onto conventional firefighting clothing for passive/active fire warning and also detecting spatial pressure and temperature distribution when a firefighter is exposed to high-temperature flames, which may provide a useful design strategy for the application of intelligent firefighting protective clothing.

Urea and lactate are biomarkers in sweat that is closely associated with human health. This study introduces portable, rapid, sensitive, stable, and high-throughput wearable sweat biosensors utilizing Au-Ag nanoshuttles (Au-Ag NSs) for the simultaneous detection of sweat urea and lactate. The Au-Ag NSs arrays within the biosensor's microfluidic cavity provide a substantial surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) enhancement effect. The limit of detection (LOD) for urea and lactate are 2.35 × 10-6 and 8.66 × 10-7 mol/L, respectively. This wearable sweat biosensor demonstrates high resistance to compression bending, repeatability, and stability and can be securely attached to various body parts. Real-time sweat analysis of volunteers wearing the biosensors during exercise demonstrated the method's practicality. This wearable sweat biosensor holds significant potential for monitoring sweat dynamics and serves as a valuable tool for assessing bioinformation in sweat.

Background: Adenoid hypertrophy (AH) is a chronic or acute obstruction-related ailment of the upper respiratory tract that arises as an inflammatory response to exposure of bacteria, viruses or allergies. Activation and polarization of macrophages are key processes in inflammation-related disorders like AH and CCL20/CCR6 axis is a critical therapeutic target. Purpose: To determine that CCL20/CCR6 mediated macrophage activation and polarization can promote adenoid epithelial inflammation in AH. Methods: To support this claim, CCL20 and CCR6 expressions were studied in clinical AH samples. In addition, the expressions of cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-6, IL-17, IL-10 and TGF-ß were analysed. In vitro, human adenoid epithelial cells were co-cultured with polarized THP-1 and T lymphocyte H9 cells to study the expressions of several inflammatory markers. Results: The expressions of M1 macrophage markers CD86 and IL-17 were significantly increased, whereas the expressions of M2 macrophage markers CD206 and FOXP3 were significantly decreased. The THP-1 cells were successfully polarized to M0, M1 and M2 macrophages. The survival of macrophages improved after 24 hr of induction and enhanced TGF-ß expression was observed. The expressions of the inflammatory cytokines IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1ß and CCL20 increased significantly. Conclusion: Collectively, these results suggest that the CCL20/CCR6 mediated macrophage activation and polarization into M1-type macrophages can promote adenoid epithelial inflammation in AH. Further studies are warranted to determine the roles of inflammatory markers in the pathophysiology of AH and identifying potential targets.

After the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, we estimated the distribution and scale of more than 5 million migrants residing in Wuhan after they returned to their hometown communities in Hubei Province or other provinces at the end of 2019 by using the data from the 2013-2018 China Migrants Dynamic Survey (CMDS). We found that the distribution of Wuhan's migrants is centred in Hubei Province (approximately 75%) at a provincial level, gradually decreasing in the surrounding provinces in layers, with obvious spatial characteristics of circle layers and echelons. The scale of Wuhan's migrants, whose origins in Hubei Province give rise to a gradient reduction from east to west within the province, and account for 66% of Wuhan's total migrants, are from the surrounding prefectural-level cities of Wuhan. The distribution comprises 94 districts and counties in Hubei Province, and the cumulative percentage of the top 30 districts and counties exceeds 80%. Wuhan's migrants have a large proportion of middle-aged and high-risk individuals. Their social characteristics include nuclear family migration (84%), migration with families of 3-4 members (71%), a rural household registration (85%), and working or doing business (84%) as the main reason for migration. Using a quasi-experimental analysis framework, we found that the size of Wuhan's migrants was highly correlated with the daily number of confirmed cases. Furthermore, we compared the epidemic situation in different regions and found that the number of confirmed cases in some provinces and cities in Hubei Province may be underestimated, while the epidemic situation in some regions has increased rapidly. The results are conducive to monitoring the epidemic prevention and control in various regions.
