Ever since the ground-breaking isolation of graphene, numerous two-dimensional (2D) materials have emerged with 2D metal dihalides gaining significant attention due to their intriguing electrical and magnetic properties. In this study, we introduce an innovative approach via anhydrous solvent-induced recrystallization of bulk powders to obtain crystals of metal dihalides (MX2, with M = Cu, Ni, Co and X = Br, Cl, I), which can be exfoliated to 2D flakes. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method using CuBr2 as an example, which forms large layered crystals. We investigate the structural properties of both the bulk and 2D CuBr2 using X-ray diffraction, along with Raman scattering and optical spectroscopy, revealing its quasi-1D chain structure, which translates to distinct emission and scattering characteristics. Furthermore, microultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy and electronic transport reveal the electronic properties of CuBr2 flakes, including their valence band structure. We extend our methodology to other metal halides and assess the stability of the metal halide flakes in controlled environments. We show that optical contrast can be used to characterize the flake thicknesses for these materials. Our findings demonstrate the versatility and potential applications of the proposed methodology for preparing and studying 2D metal halide flakes.

Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) were associated with survival in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) undergoing surgery alone (SA). However, their clinical relevance in neoadjuvant therapies remains less known. Here, we firstly investigated the presence, maturation and spatial distribution of TLSs in 359 ESCC patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT), neoadjuvant immunotherapy (NCI), neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) or SA. We found mature TLS (MTLS) was an independent prognostic factor in ESCC. NCI group had the lowest immature TLS cases. NCRT group had the lowest MTLSs. MTLSs mostly located in stromal and normal compartments; these MTLSs were positively correlated with neoadjuvant therapy outcomes. NCI group displayed the highest T cells within 150 µm proximity of TLSs among the four groups. Most T cells were dispersed up to more than 150 µm from TLSs, while B cells remained concentrated within TLSs. Innate lymphoid cells and follicular dendritic cells infiltrated and connected with survival differently in NCRT and NCI groups compared with SA group. The novel PD-L1 combined positive score, NCPS, was positively connected with MTLSs and neoadjuvant therapy efficacy. ScRNA-seq analysis revealed TLS+ tumors had increased plasma cells, B cells, Th17, Tfh and Th1, and elevated exhausted CD8+ T cells that highly expressed checkpoint molecules and granzymes. Conclusively, MTLSs favored treatment outcome in ESCC patients receiving multiple neoadjuvant therapies. The spatial distribution of MTLSs was associated with multiregional immune status modified by the neoadjuvant therapies.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to use artificial intelligence (AI) to integrate various radiological and clinical pathological data to identify effective predictors of contralateral cervical lymph node metastasis (CCLNM) in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and to establish a clinically applicable model to guide the extent of surgery. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 603 patients with PTC from three centers. Clinical, pathological, and ultrasonographic data were collected and utilized to develop a machine learning (ML) model for predicting CCLNM. Model development at the internal center utilized logistic regression along with other ML algorithms. Diagnostic efficacy was compared among these methods, leading to the adoption of the final model (random forest). This model was subject to AI interpretation and externally validated at other centers. RESULTS: CCLNM was associated with multiple pathological factors. The Delphian lymph node metastasis ratio, ipsilateral cervical lymph node metastasis number, and presence of ipsilateral cervical lymph node metastasis were independent risk factors for CCLNM. Following feature selection, a Delphian lymph node-CCLNM (D-CCLNM) model was established using the Random forest algorithm based on five attributes. The D-CCLNM model demonstrated the highest area under the curve (AUC; 0.9273) in the training cohort and exhibited high predictive accuracy, with AUCs of 0.8907 and 0.9247 in the external and validation cohorts, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: We developed a new, effective method that uses ML to predict CCLNM in patients with PTC. This approach integrates data from Delphian lymph nodes and clinical characteristics, offering a foundation for guiding surgical decisions, and is conveniently applicable in clinical settings.

Taiwan is situated in the subtropical region and its geographical location and topographical features contribute to a rich ecological diversity and scenic landscapes. We investigated the diversity of methanogens in different environments of Taiwan using a culture-dependent method. This report presents the characterization and taxonomy of six hydrogenotrophic methanogens obtained from cold seep sediments (strain FWC-SCC1T and FWC-SCC3T), marine sediments (strain CWC-02T and YWC-01T), estuarine sediments (strain Afa-1T), and a hot spring well (strain Wushi-C6T) in Taiwan. The proposed names of the six novel species are Methanoculleus frigidifontis (type strain FWC-SCC1T=BCRC AR10056T=NBRC 113993T), Methanoculleus oceani (CWC-02T=BCRC AR10055T=NBRC 113992T), Methanoculleus methanifontis (FWC-SCC3T=BCRC AR10057T=NBRC 113994T), Methanoculleus nereidis (YWC-01T=BCRC AR10060T=NBRC 114597T), Methanoculleus formosensis (Afa-1T=BCRC AR10054T=NBRC 113995T), and Methanoculleus caldifontis (Wushi-06T=BCRC AR10059T= NBRC 114596T).

PANoptosis is manifested with simultaneous activation of biomarkers for both pyroptotic, apoptotic and necroptotic signaling via the molecular platform PANoptosome and it is involved in pathologies of various inflammatory diseases including hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Scutellarin is a flavonoid isolated from herbal Erigeron breviscapus (Vant.) Hand.-Mazz. and has been shown to possess multiple pharmacological effects, but it is unknown whether scutellarin has any effects on PANoptosis and related inflammatory diseases. In this study, we found that scutellarin inhibited cell death in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) and J774A.1 cells treated with TGF-ß-activated kinase 1 (TAK1) inhibitor 5Z-7-oxozeaenol (OXO) plus lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which has been commonly used to induce PANoptosis. Western blotting showed that scutellarin dose-dependently inhibited the activation biomarkers for pyroptotic (Caspase-1p10 and GSDMD-NT), apoptotic (cleaved Casp3/8/9 and GSDME-NT), and necroptotic (phosphorylated MLKL) signaling. The inhibitory effect of scutellarin was unaffected by NLRP3 or Caspase-1 deletion. Interestingly, scutellarin blocked the assembly of PANoptosome that encompasses ASC, RIPK3, Caspase-8 and ZBP1, suggesting its action on upstream signaling. Consistent with this, scutellarin inhibited mitochondrial damage and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) generation in cells treated with OXO+LPS. Further, mito-TEMPO that can scavenge mtROS significantly inhibited OXO+LPS-induced PANoptotic cell death. In line with the in vitro results, scutellarin markedly alleviated systemic inflammation, multiple organ injury, and activation of PANoptotic biomarkers in mice with HLH. Collectively, our data suggest that scutellarin can inhibit PANoptosis by suppressing mitochondrial damage and mtROS generation and thereby mitigating multiple organ injury in mice with inflammatory disorders.

RESUMO

Total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) is a novel strategy for rectal cancer that administers both (chemo)radiotherapy and systemic chemotherapy before surgery. TNT is expected to improve treatment compliance, tumor regression, organ preservation, and oncologic outcomes. Multiple TNT regimens are currently available with various combinations of the treatments including induction or consolidation chemotherapy, triplet or doublet chemotherapy, and long-course chemoradiotherapy or short-course radiotherapy. Evidence on TNT is rapidly evolving with new data on clinical trials, and no definitive consensus has been established on which regimens to use for improving outcomes. Clinicians need to understand the advantages and limitations of the available regimens for multidisciplinary decision making. This article reviews currently available evidence on TNT for rectal cancer. A decision making flow chart is provided for tailor-made use of TNT regimens based on tumor location and local and systemic risk.

A growing number of studies have demonstrated that repeated exposure to sevoflurane during development results in persistent social abnormalities and cognitive impairment. Davunetide, an active fragment of the activity-dependent neuroprotective protein (ADNP), has been implicated in social and cognitive protection. However, the potential of davunetide to attenuate social deficits following sevoflurane exposure and the underlying developmental mechanisms remain poorly understood. In this study, ribosome and proteome profiles were analyzed to investigate the molecular basis of sevoflurane-induced social deficits in neonatal mice. The neuropathological basis was also explored using Golgi staining, morphological analysis, western blotting, electrophysiological analysis, and behavioral analysis. Results indicated that ADNP was significantly down-regulated following developmental exposure to sevoflurane. In adulthood, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) neurons exposed to sevoflurane exhibited a decrease in dendrite number, total dendrite length, and spine density. Furthermore, the expression levels of Homer, PSD95, synaptophysin, and vglut2 were significantly reduced in the sevoflurane group. Patch-clamp recordings indicated reductions in both the frequency and amplitude of miniature excitatory postsynaptic currents (mEPSCs). Notably, davunetide significantly ameliorated the synaptic defects, social behavior deficits, and cognitive impairments induced by sevoflurane. Mechanistic analysis revealed that loss of ADNP led to dysregulation of Ca 2+ activity via the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling, resulting in decreased expression of synaptic proteins. Suppression of Wnt signaling was restored in the davunetide-treated group. Thus, ADNP was identified as a promising therapeutic target for the prevention and treatment of neurodevelopmental toxicity caused by general anesthetics. This study provides important insights into the mechanisms underlying social and cognitive disturbances caused by sevoflurane exposure in neonatal mice and elucidates the regulatory pathways involved.

BACKGROUND: Non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-c) was a strong risk factor for incident cardiovascular diseases and proved to be a better target of lipid-lowering therapies. Recently, gut microbiota has been implicated in the regulation of host metabolism. However, its causal role in the variation of non-HDL-c remains unclear. METHODS: Microbial species and metabolic capacities were assessed with fecal metagenomics, and their associations with non-HDL-c were evaluated by Spearman correlation, followed by LASSO and linear regression adjusted for established cardiovascular risk factors. Moreover, integrative analysis with plasma metabolomics were performed to determine the key molecules linking microbial metabolism and variation of non-HDL-c. Furthermore, bi-directional mendelian randomization analysis was performed to determine the potential causal associations of selected species and metabolites with non-HDL-c. FINDINGS: Decreased Eubacterium rectale but increased Clostridium sp CAG_299 were causally linked to a higher level of non-HDL-c. A total of 16 microbial capacities were found to be independently associated with non-HDL-c after correcting for age, sex, demographics, lifestyles and comorbidities, with the strongest association observed for tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. Furthermore, decreased 3-indolepropionic acid and N-methyltryptamine, resulting from suppressed capacities for microbial reductive TCA cycle, functioned as major microbial effectors to the elevation of circulating non-HDL-c. INTERPRETATION: Overall, our findings provided insight into the causal effects of gut microbes on non-HDL-c and uncovered a novel link between non-HDL-c and microbial metabolism, highlighting the possibility of regulating non-HDL-c by microbiota-modifying interventions. The ability to controllably move gaseous ions is an essential aspect of ion-based spectrometry (e.g., mass spectrometry and ion mobility spectrometry) as well as materials processing. At higher pressures, ion motion is largely governed by diffusion and multiple collisions with neutral gas molecules. Thus, high-pressure ion optics based on electrostatics require large fields, radio frequency drives, complicated geometries, and/or partially transmissive grids that become contaminated. Here, we demonstrate that low-power standing acoustic waves can be used to guide, block, focus, and separate beams of ions akin to electrostatic ion optics. Ions preferentially travel through the static-pressure regions ("nodes") while neutral gas does not appear to be impacted by the acoustic field structure and continues along a straight trajectory. This acoustic ion manipulation (AIM) approach has broad implications for ion manipulation techniques at high pressure, while expanding our fundamental understanding of the behavior of ions in gases.

BACKGROUND: SARS-CoV-2 continues to mutate over time, and reports on children infected with Omicron BA.5 are limited. We aimed to analyze the specific symptoms of Omicron-infected children and to improve patient care. METHODS: We selected 315 consecutively hospitalized children with Omicron BA.5 and 16,744 non-Omicron-infected febrile children visiting the fever clinic at our hospital between December 8 and 30, 2022. Specific convulsions and body temperatures were compared between the two cohorts. We analyzed potential associations between convulsions and vaccination, and additionally evaluated the brain damage among severe Omicron-infected children. RESULTS: Convulsion rates (97.5% vs. 4.3%, P < 0.001) and frequencies (median: 2.0 vs. 1.6, P < 0.001) significantly differed between Omicron-infected and non-Omicron-infected febrile children. The body temperatures of Omicron-infected children were significantly higher during convulsions than when they were not convulsing and those of non-Omicron-infected febrile children during convulsions (median: 39.5 vs. 38.2 and 38.6 °C, both P < 0.001). In the three Omicron-subgroups, the temperature during convulsions was proportional to the percentage of patients and significantly differed ( P < 0.001), while not in the three non-Omicron-subgroups ( P = 0.244). The convulsion frequency was lower in the 55 vaccinated children compared to the 260 non-vaccinated children (average: 1.8 vs. 2.1, P < 0.001). The vaccination dose and convulsion frequency in Omicron-infected children were significantly correlated ( P < 0.001). Fifteen of the 112 severe Omicron cases had brain damage. CONCLUSIONS: Omicron-infected children experience higher body temperatures and frequencies during convulsions than those of non-Omicron-infected febrile children. We additionally found evidence of brain damage caused by infection with omicron BA.5. Vaccination and prompt fever reduction may relieve symptoms.

Defects can introduce atomic structural modulation and tailor performance of materials. Herein, it demonstrates that semiconductor WO3 with inert electrocatalytic behavior can be activated through defect-induced tensile strains. Structural characterizations reveal that when simply treated in Ar/H2 atmosphere, oxygen vacancies will generate in WO3 and cause defective structures. Stacking faults are found in defects, thus modulating electronic structure and transforming electrocatalytic-inert WO3 into highly active electrocatalysts. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are performed to calculate *H adsorption energies on various WOx surfaces, revealing the oxygen vacancy composition and strain predicted to optimize the catalytic activity of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Such defective tungsten oxides can be integrated into commercial proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser with comparable performance toward Pt-based PEM. This work demonstrates defective metal oxides as promising non-noble metal catalysts for commercial PEM green-hydrogen generation.

Lippia (Phyla canescens) is a fast-growing, mat-forming, and prostrate perennial plant well adapted to infertile, high-saline, and drought environments (Leigh, et al. 2004). It arrived in China from Japan as a flowering ground cover in 2001 (Cai, et al. 2004). In June 2022, southern blight appeared in our nursery of the Floriculture Research Institute of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences. High temperature and damp environment are major factors for this disease. The symptoms of top-layer plants were not easily detected, but they were slightly yellowed. A yellowish-brown water-soak lesion appeared on the stems and lowest leaves exposed to soil. White mycelium appeared in the middle stage. Finally, the surface plants showed water-soak decay, and a mass of beige to black-brown rapeseed-shaped sclerotia appeared on the residue and surrounding soil; these plants died. Sclerotia and mycelia were collected from disease tissue, and after surface sterilization, sclerotia was cultured on potato dextrose agar (PDA) at 28±2°C in an incubator without light. Eight fungal isolates with similar colony morphologies were consistently isolated by purifying from different sampling areas. The isolates exhibited obvious septa and a clamp connection structure within the white mycelium. The average growth rate was 26.86±0.06 mm/day. Numerous white granular sclerotia were produced on the mycelium 6 days later. The sclerotia with a diameter of 1.24±0.07mm (n=189) gradually changed from diage to yellow to brown. A typical strain B1 was selected for further identification, targeting its 18S rRNA and LSU rRNA sequences (Yang, et al. 2011; Xue, et al. 2019). Its 18S rRNA sequence (GenBank Accession No. OR517233, 1626 bp) is 99.63% and 99.57% identical to Athelia rolfsii (AY665774, 1179bp; KC670714, 1775bp; JF819726, 1781bp). Its LSU rRNA sequence (OR539570, 757 bp) is 99.87% identical to Agroathelia rolfsii (OR526537, 904 bp). For Athelia rolfsii, a synonym of Agroathelia rolfsii, by combining the morphological characteristics and molecular identification, the isolate pathogen B1 was confirmed to be Agroathelia rolfsii (the teleomorph of Sclerotium rolfsii). To fullfill Koch's postulates, we inoculated the mycelial plugs to healthy lippia stems and leaves which has grown for one year, with PDA plugs free of mycelium as the control. All the plants were kept in a greenhouse at 28±2°C with a 14-h photoperiod and 80% relative humidity. Each treatment was repeated thrice and vaccinated with 6 points. At 7 d following inoculation, all plants inoculated with B1 showed typical symptoms, but the control group was asymptomatic, and sclerotia appeared 17d after inoculation. Using the same protocol mentioned above, pathogenic fungal was reisolated only from treated groups, but not from the control group. Chose three of the pathogens for 18S rRNA and LSU rRNA sequencing, the results showed 100% identity to B1, the same as its microstructure. There are few reports about the disease on P. canescens. Sosa (2007) investigated the pathogens on P. canescens in Argentina, 16 fungi were found but no A. rolfsii. Sclerotium rolfsii were identified on P. nodiflora or P. lanceolata (Michaux) Greene in America (Farr, et al. 1989). To our knowledge, this is the first report in China. Because this pathogen has wide-ranging hosts and causes serious damage, the results from this study will offer guidance for the prevention and treatment of this disease.

BACKGROUND: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a common autoimmune disease that often involves the skeletal muscle of the whole body and seriously affects patients' quality of life. Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of MG has unique advantages, the aim is to evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture and moxibustion on MG. METHODS: The literature on acupuncture and moxibustion treating MG in PubMed, CochraneLibrary, EMBASE, SCI, China Academic Journals full-text database, China Biology Medicine disc, VIP and Wanfang database were searched through computers from the establishment of the database to December 2022. RESULTS: A total of 11 studies were included, involving 658 patients, where 330 in the treatment group and 328 in the control group. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the treatment group performed better than the control group in improving the total clinical response rate (OR = 3.26, 95%[2.04,5.21], P < .01). Additionally, the treatment group outperformed the control group in raising the absolute clinical score (MD = -3.48, 95%CI[-5.17, -1.78], P < .01). However, there was no significant difference between the treatment group and the control group in improving the level of serum interleukin-6 receptor (MD = -1.45,95%CI[-6.85,3.95], P > .05) and OMG quantitative score (MD = -2.16,95%CI[-4.85,0.52], P > .05). The total clinical effective rate was tested for publication bias, which showed that the 2 sides of the funnel plot were asymmetrical, suggesting the possible existence of publication bias. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture and moxibustion has a good effect on MG, which is better than conventional Western medicine in improving the total clinical effective rate and absolute clinical score.

Agricultural biomass used as solid carbon substrates in ecological floating beds (EFBs) has been proven to be applicable in nitrogen removal for carbon-limited wastewater treatment. However, the subtle interactions among plants, rhizosphere microorganisms, and supplementary carbon sources have not been thoroughly studied. This study combined rice straw mats with different aquatic macrophytes in EFBs to investigate denitrification efficiency in carbon-limited eutrophic waters. Results showed that rice straw significantly enhanced the nitrogen removal efficiency of EFBs, while enriching nitrogen-fixing and denitrifying bacteria (such as Rhizobium, Rubrivivax, and Rhodobacter, etc.). Additionally, during the denitrification process in EFBs, rice straw can release humic acid-like fraction as electron donors to support the metabolic activities of microorganisms, while aquatic macrophytes provide a more diverse range of dissolved organic matters, facilitating a sustainable denitrification process. These findings help to understand the synergistic effect of denitrification processes within wetland ecosystems using agricultural biomass.

Toxocara canis is a parasitic zoonose that is distributed worldwide and is one of the two pathogens causing toxocariasis. After infection, it causes serious public health and safety problems, which pose significant veterinary and medical challenges. To better understand the regulatory effects of T. canis infection on the host immune cells, murine macrophages (RAW264.7) were incubated with recombinant T. canis C-type lectin 4 (rTc-CTL-4) protein in vitro. The quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot were used to analyze the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-containing protein 1/2 (NOD1/2), receptor-interacting protein 2 (RIP2), nuclear factor kappa-light-chain enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB), and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) on mRNA level and protein expression level in macrophages. Our results indicated that 10 µg/mL rTc-CTL-4 protein could modulate the expression of NOD1, NOD2, and RIP2 at both the transcriptional and translational levels. The protein translation levels of NF-κB, P-p65, p38, and P-p38 in macrophages were also modulated by rTc-CTL-4 protein. Macrophages were co-incubated with rTc-CTL-4 protein after siRNA silencing of NOD1, NOD2, and RIP2. The expression levels of NF-κB, P-p65, p38, and P-p38 were significantly changed compared with the negative control groups (Neg. Ctrl.). Taken together, rTc-CTL-4 protein seemed to act on NOD1/2-RIP2-NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways in macrophages and might activate MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways by regulating NOD1, NOD2, and RIP2. The insights from the above studies could contribute to our understanding of immune recognition and regulatory mechanisms of T. canis infection in the host animals.

This study explored the influence of structural characteristics of organic contaminants on the degradation during an advanced oxidation process (AOP). The target contaminants were acetaminophen (ACT), bisphenol A (BPA), and tetracycline (TC). The Fenton process was selected as the model process in which major reactive species of hydroxyl radicals in most AOPs are generated for target compound degradation. The optimal reagent concentration ratio was [Fe2+]/[H2O2] = 0.5 mM/0.5 mM in an acidic condition, resulting in 83.49%, 79.01%, and 91.37% removals of ACT, BPA, and TC, respectively. Contrarily, the mineralization rates were apparently lower compared to their respective removal efficiencies. Experimental observation also suggested that the aromatic structure was rather difficult to degrade since their unsaturated electron clouds would hinder the attack of hydroxyl radicals due to electric repulsion. The preferred attacking sites of an aromatic ring differ due to the functional groups and structure symmetry. However, the electrophilic attack of the hydroxyl radical is the major reaction for decomposing aliphatic structures of cyclic or branched organics, resulting in the highest removal and mineralization of TC among these three tested chemicals. In addition, an apparent removal of a contaminant may not necessarily reduce its toxic impact on the environment.

RESUMO

The "symmetric mass generation" (SMG) quantum phase transition discovered in recent years has attracted great interest from both condensed matter and high energy theory communities. Here, interacting Dirac fermions acquire a gap without condensing any fermion bilinear mass term or any concomitant spontaneous symmetry breaking. It is hence beyond the conventional Gross-Neveu-Yukawa-Higgs paradigm. One important question we address in this Letter is whether the SMG transition corresponds to a true unitary conformal field theory. We employ the sharp diagnosis including the scaling of disorder operator and Rényi entanglement entropy in large-scale lattice model quantum Monte Carlo simulations. Our results strongly suggest that the SMG transition is indeed an unconventional quantum phase transition and it should correspond to a true (2+1)d unitary conformal field theory.

This study aimed to investigate the association of serum homocysteine (Hcy) levels with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in patients without diabetes on the basis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The study used data from 3 survey cycles (1999 to 2004) in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database as the research dataset. Serum Hcy levels were considered an independent variable, whereas PAD was a dependent variable. Weighted logistic regression and restricted cubic spline methods were used to explore the relation between Hcy level and PAD risk in patients without diabetes. A total of 4,819 samples were included. In the weighted logistics regression model, a significant positive association was observed between Hcy levels and the risk of PAD (odds ratio >1, p <0.05). Subgroup analysis results indicated a particularly significant association between Hcy levels and PAD risk in the older population (age ≥60 years), those with a history of smoking, and those without a history of myocardial infarction (all odds ratio >1, p <0.05) (p <0.05). Exploring the nonlinear association between Hcy levels and PAD risk through restricted cubic spline curves revealed an overall significant trend (p allover <0.05). In conclusion, elevated Hcy levels increased the risk of PAD, with a more pronounced effect observed in populations of patients without diabetes, especially in older patients (age ≥60 years), those with smoking history, and those without a history of myocardial infarction.
