RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore feasibility of 3D metal printing technology combined with virtual design proximal clavicle anatomical plate. METHODS: A 52-year-old male healthy volunteer was retrospectively selected to design proximal clavicle anatomical plate system by using Mimics15.01,NX12.0 and other software. STL data were input into 3D printer to print 1:1 clavicle model and proximal clavicle anatomical plate. The fit of the plate was tested in vitro and the accuracy of screw position was evaluated by imaging. Printing time of model, nail path design and fabrication time of the anatomical plate at proximal clavicle were recorded. RESULTS: The 3D metal printing proximal clavicle anatomical plate fitted well to clavicle model, orientation of proximal clavicle locking screw was accurate, and X-ray and CT scan showed the screw position was good. Printing time of model, the time of nail path design, and the time of making anatomical plate of proximal clavicle were 120,15 and 300 min respectively. CONCLUSION: The proximal clavicular anatomical plate system based on 3D metal printing technology could achieve good lamination of proximal clavicular fracture plate and precise screw placement, providing a new and accurate surgical method for the treatment of the proximal clavicular fracture.

RESUMO

It is of interest to develop wide-temperature domain damped hydrophobic materials. In this paper, we designed incorporating bio-based phenolic resin into the IIR matrix and introducing dibenzyl fork acetone (DBA) into the main chain structure with sodium hydroxide activation to construct three-dimensional network. In this paper, we designed incorporating bio-based phenolic resin into the IIR matrix and introducing dibenzyl fork acetone (DBA) into the main chain structure with sodium hydroxide activation to construct three-dimensional network. The added bio-based phenolic resin has reticulated structure blended with butyl rubber, combined with sodium hydride activation-modified IIR. The results show that sodium hydride activated modification of DBA is introduced into the main chain structure of IIR by infrared and 1H NMR analysis. The material hydrophobic is realized by the introduction of DBA with static water contact angle of 103.5°. The addition of 10phr lignin-based phenolic resin (LPF) is compatible with IIR, and the torque can reach 7.0 N-m. The tensile elongation of the modified butyl rubber composite can reach 2400% with tensile strength up to 11.43 MPa, while the damping factor can reach 0.37 even at 70 °C. The thermal stability of the composites is enhanced with mass retention rate of 28%. The bio-based PF/NaH activation-modified butyl rubber damping material has potential applications in damping hydrophobicity with wide temperature range.

RESUMO

Decidualization plays an important role in the implantation of the embryo, but the molecular action implicated in this process is not completely known. Herein, we found that, compared with the proliferative endometrial tissues, the expression of minichromosome maintenance complex component 6 (MCM6) was markedly decreased in the secretory endometrial tissues. To verify the function of MCM6 in decidualization, in vitro decidualization model was constructed by treating human endometrial stromal cells (HESCs) with estrogen (E2) and progesterone (P4). Consistently, MCM6 level was downregulated in E2P4-treated HESCs. Administration of E2P4 accumulated HESCs in G1 cell cycle phase, leading to cell growth suppression. Ectopic expression of MCM6 promoted the transition of G1/S and restored the proliferation of HESCs that were inhibited by E2P4. MCM6 overexpression led to aberrant activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and treatment with ERK agonist Ro 67-7476 restored MCM6 expression and cell proliferation inhibited by E2P4. Our data suggested that MCM6/ERK feedback loop plays a negative role in E2P4-induced decidualization and implies that MCM6 may be a promising target for meliorating uterine receptivity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to provide a comprehensive analysis of the spatial distribution and temporal trends in the age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) of depression in adolescents aged 10-24 worldwide. METHODS: Data from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2019 were analyzed, adopting Sawyer's broad definition of adolescence encompassing ages 10 to 24. Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were used to assess temporal trends. RESULTS: Globally, from 1990 to 2019, there was a decrease in the ASIR of depression in adolescents (EAPC = -0.23). Notably, this decrease was more pronounced in female adolescents compared to their male counterparts (EAPC = -0.12 and - 0.29, respectively). Conversely, high Sociodemographic Index (SDI) regions experienced a significant increase in the ASIR of depression among adolescents (EAPC = 0.87). Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that individuals aged 20-24 exhibited the highest incidence rate for depression followed by those aged 15-19 and then those aged 10-14. The largest increases in the ASIRs of depression occurred in High-income North America (EAPC = 1.19) and Malaysia (EAPC = 2.4), respectively. LIMITATIONS: Mathematical models were used to reconstruct and adjust data of different qualities, which might have introduced bias. CONCLUSIONS: The global burden of disease for depression among adolescents aged 10-24 years declined from 1990 to 2019. Special attention must be paid to older adolescents and areas with higher SDIs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to conduct a comprehensive performance evaluation of the Mindray CX-9000 fully automated coagulation analyzer for the detection of the seven coagulation items. METHODS: The performance of activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), prothrombin time (PT), fibrinogen (FIB), thrombin time (TT), D-dimer (D-D), fibrinogen degradation product (FDP), and antithrombin Ⅲ (AT) was validated for precision, linear range, carryover contamination rate, reference interval validation, inter-method agreement, and anti-interference ability. RESULTS: The intra- and inter-precision (coefficient of variation, CV%) of all seven items was less than the target CV%; the carryover contamination rates for different concentrations and between items were < 10%. The slope of the linear regression equation for the theoretical and measured values of the linear range was within 1 ± 0.05 and R ≥ 0.975. The reference interval quoted from the manufacturer's reference interval passed ≥ 95%. The CX-9000 was compared with the results of the reference instrument STAGO R MAX (STA-R MAX) and the p-values for all items ranged from 0.822 to 0.987. Within the concentration range claimed by the manufacturer, the interference errors produced by all items met the manufacturer's claimed criteria, except for triglycerides which produced interference errors > 10% for the FIB, D-D, FDP, and bilirubin which produced interference errors for the FIB and D-D assays. CONCLUSIONS: The CX-9000 automatic coagulation analyzer has good stability and repeatability, a wide linear range of detection, low carryover contamination rate, and high resistance to interference, making it suitable for the testing of clinical specimens.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Meta-analyses on the use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in intertrochanteric fractures have shown inconsistent results due to variations in inclusion criteria and clinical heterogeneity. To address these limitations, we conducted a rigorous analysis of recent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with strict inclusion criteria. The aim of this study was to objectively evaluate the effects and safety of intravenous TXA administration in the treatment of geriatric intertrochanteric femoral fractures with intramedullary nailing. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched for RCTs published from the database inception to August 2022. The date of total blood loss (TBL), intra-operative blood loss (IBL), hidden blood loss (HBL), transfusion rate, transfusion units, thromboembolic events, and mortality were extracted. Review Manager 5.3 was used for the analysis. RESULTS: A total of six RCTs involving 689 patients were included. Meta-analyses indicated that TXA can significantly reduce TBL (WMD = -232.82; 95% CI -312.81 to -152.84; p < 0.00001), IBL (WMD = -36.33; 95% CI -51.38 to -21.28; p < 0.00001), HBL (WMD = -189.23; 95% CI -274.92 to -103.54; p < 0.0001), transfusion rate (RR = 0.53; 95% CI 0.33 to 0.85; p = 0.008), and transfusion units (WMD = -0.58; 95% CI -0.75 to -0.41; p < 0.01). No increase in thromboembolic events rate (RR = 0.75; 95% CI 0.38 to 1.50; p = 0.42) and mortality (RR = 1.36; 95% CI 0.61 to 3.04; p = 0.45) was observed. CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis provides robust evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of intravenous TXA administration in treating geriatric intertrochanteric femoral fractures with intramedullary nailing. TXA significantly reduces blood loss and transfusion requirements without increasing the risk of thromboembolic events or mortality.

RESUMO

Since the beginning of 2022, the Hong Kong government has imposed strict social distancing measures and changed its stance on various regional policies with the aim to contain the so-called 'fifth wave' of COVID-19. In these pandemic and 'infodemic' times filled with uncertainty and fear, Hong Kong netizens used local online discussion forums as a resource to establish an innovative form of 'helping network.' This study is based on 230 posts from a popular local online discussion forum 'LIHKG' in February 2022 when the pandemic was regarded as most critical by the Department of Health. Speech Acts theoretic approach was adopted to explore how forum users employed speech acts to perform various communicative practices such as expressing concerns, asking for information, and engaging with others in a CMC environment amid a global health crisis. Representatives were found to be the most dominant text-based speech acts, followed by directives, expressives and commissives. Speech acts provide forum users a context in which emoji usage occurs. Forum users not only make use of words to 'do' things in the online self-help forum, but they also employ emojis to either supplement or complement speech acts. This study also shows that emojis perform multiple functions in the discussion posts and argues that they do not merely function as emotion indicators of their textual company, but also carry significant pragmatic meanings by illustrating how they can also carry illocutionary force and in some cases, even alter the illocutionary force of their preceding texts. The findings of this study enhance our understanding of how forum users communicate via verbal and nonverbal means within the underexplored 'helping domain' of online discussion forums. It also suggests that online discussion forum interactions need to be approached differently than other better understood alternatives.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the surgical treatment of different proximal clavicle fractures, and discuss the classification of proximal clavicle fractures. METHODS: Total of 24 patients with displaced proximal clavicle fractures were treated from January 2017 to December 2020 including 16 males and 8 females, aged 28 to 66 years old. Among them, 20 cases were fresh fractures and 4 cases were old fractures. According to the Edinburgh classification, 14 cases were type 1B1 fractures and 10 cases were type 1B2 fractures. The different internal fixation methods were selected for internal fixation treatment according to different fracture types. The operation time, blood loss, preoperative and postoperative displacement difference, fracture healing time and Rockwood scoring system were recorded. RESULTS: All patients were followed up for 12 to 24 months. There were no patients with infection or loss of reduction after the operation. Three patients had internal fixation failure after operation, and the internal fixation device was removed. Results The operation time was 30 to 65 min, and the blood loss was 15 to 40 ml. No important nerves, blood vessels, or organs were damaged. The imaging healing time was 3 to 6 months. According to the Rockwood functional score, the total score was (13.50±1.86), pain (2.57±0.50), range of motion (2.78±0.41), muscle strength (2.93±0.28), restricted daily activity (2.85±0.35), subjective results (2.63±0.61);the results were excellent in 20 cases, good in 3 cases, fair in 1 case. CONCLUSION: Proximal clavicular fracture is a type of fracture with low incidence. According to different fracture types, different internal fixation methods and treatment methods can be selected, and satisfactory surgical results can be achieved.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: With the help of finite element analysis, to explore the effect of proximal humeral bone cement enhanced screw plate fixation on the stability of internal fixation of osteoporotic proximal humeral fracture. METHODS: The digital model of unstable proximal humeral fracture with metaphyseal bone defect was made, and the finite element models of proximal humeral fracture bone cement enhanced screw plate fixation and common screw plate fixation were established respectively. The stress of cancellous bone around the screw, the overall stiffness, the maximum stress of the plate and the maximum stress of the screw were analyzed. RESULTS: The maximum stresses of cancellous bone around 6 screws at the head of proximal humeral with bone cement enhanced screw plate fixation were 1.07 MPa for No.1 nail, 0.43 MPa for No.2 nail, 1.16 MPa for No.3 nail, 0.34 MPa for No.4 nail, 1.99 MPa for No.5 nail and 1.57 MPa for No.6 nail. These with common screw plate fixation were:2.68 MPa for No.1 nail, 0.67 MPa for No.2 nail, 4.37 MPa for No.3 nail, 0.75 MPa for No.4 nail, 3.30 MPa for No.5 nail and 2.47 MPa for No.6 nail. Overall stiffness of the two models is 448 N/mm for bone cement structure and 434 N/mm for common structure. The maximum stress of plate appears in the joint hole:701MPa for bone cement structure and 42 0MPa for common structure. The maximum stress of screws appeared at the tail end of No.4 nail:284 MPa for bone cement structure and 240.8 MPa for common structure. CONCLUSION: Through finite element analysis, it is proved that the proximal humerus bone cement enhanced screw plate fixation of osteoporotic proximal humeral fracture can effectively reduce the stress of cancellous bone around the screw and enhance the initial stability after fracture operation, thus preventing from penetrating out and humeral head collapsing.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have demonstrated that the use of tranexamic acid (TXA) intravenously minimizes bleeding, lowers transfusion rates, and does not raise the risk of complications during major orthopedic surgery. Concerning the effectiveness of the topical application, there are, nevertheless, inconsistent findings. We aimed to develop a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis on the benefits and safety of topical TXA in intramedullary nailing for the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library will all be searched for randomized controlled trials published from the database inception to October 15, 2022. The primary outcomes will be intraoperative blood loss, hidden blood loss, total blood loss, transfusion rate, transfusion units, operative time, thromboembolic events, and mortality. The risk of bias will be evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. Review Manager 5.3 will be used for the analysis. RESULTS: The effects and safety of topical TXA in intramedullary nailing for the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly will be quantified in this study. CONCLUSIONS: The study's findings will assist doctors in determining if topical TXA use is secure and efficient.

RESUMO

The spatial-temporal prediction of traffic flow is very important for traffic management and planning. The most difficult challenges of traffic flow prediction are the temporal feature extraction and the spatial correlation extraction of nodes. Due to the complex spatial correlation between different roads and the dynamic trend of time patterns, traditional forecasting methods still have limitations in obtaining spatial-temporal correlation, which makes it difficult to extract more valid information. In order to improve the accuracy of the forecasting, this paper proposes a multi-scale temporal dual graph convolution network for traffic flow prediction (MD-GCN). Firstly, we propose a gated temporal convolution based on a channel attention and inception structure to extract multi-scale temporal dependence. Then, aiming at the complexity of the traffic spatial structure, we develop a dual graph convolution module including the graph sampling and aggregation submodule (GraphSAGE) and the mix-hop propagation graph convolution submodule (MGCN) to extract the local correlation and global correlation between neighbor nodes. Finally, extensive experiments are carried out on several public traffic datasets, and the experimental results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing methods.

RESUMO

Sepsis is a disease with a high morbidity and mortality rate. At present, there is a lack of ideal biomarker prognostic models for sepsis and promising studies using prognostic models to predict and guide the clinical use of medications. In this study, 71 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained by analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and transcriptome RNA-seq data, and Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment pathway analyses were performed on these genes. Then, a prognosis model with CCL5, HBD, IFR2BP2, LTB, and WFDC1 as prognostic signatures was successfully constructed after univariate LASSO regression analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis. Kaplan-Meier (K-M) survival analysis, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) time curve analysis, internal validation, and principal component analysis (PCA) further validated the model for its high stability and predictive power. Furthermore, based on a risk prediction model, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) showed that multiple cellular functions and immune function signaling pathways were significantly different between the high- and low-risk groups. In-depth analysis of the distribution of immune cells in healthy individuals and sepsis patients using scRNA-seq data revealed immunosuppression in sepsis patients and differences in the abundance of immune cells between the high- and low-risk groups. Finally, the genetic targets of immunosuppression-related drugs were used to accurately predict the potential use of clinical agents in high-risk patients with sepsis.

RESUMO

We carried out a preliminary investigation to study the impact of COVID-19 on aquaculture in China and identify the strategies and measures that have been taken by the Chinese Government. The investigation involved questionnaire surveys designed for all stakeholders along the industrial chain, including grow-out farmers, seed producers, fish processors, fish traders, and feed companies engaged in the catfish sector in Hubei Province and the tilapia sector in Guangdong Province during the strict period of control and after these control measures were lifted. We also attempted to summarize the government interventions and measures taken by different stakeholders along the value chain to minimize the damage caused by COVID-19 and support the recovery of different sectors in the aquaculture industry. We found that due to delayed harvesting, fish stocks were held-up in ponds and normal farming was interrupted. Farmers and traders were more severely impacted by the pandemic than other sectors. Furthermore, a series of strategies and measures are recommended to cope with the pandemic and other similar risks in the future. We expect that this study will provide good evidence for international societies to support the aquaculture industry in minimizing the impact of the pandemic and the rapid recovery of the industry in the post-pandemic period.

RESUMO

Klinefelter syndrome (KS) is a leading contributor to male infertility and is characterised by complex and diverse clinical features; however, genetic changes in the KS transcriptome remain largely unknown. We therefore used transcriptomic and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets from KS versus normal populations through the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to identify gene biomarkers associated with the occurrence of KS. We identified a total of 700 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and completed Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), enrichment pathway analysis and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis. A total of four unreported KS-related hub genes (KIF2C, MRPS2, RPS15 and TSFM) were identified. Validation of the single-cell sequencing dataset showed that only KIF2C and RPS15 were expressed in spermatocytes and that they were differentially expressed in sperm cells. Further construction of the developmental trajectories of these two genes in sperm cells showed that the KIF2C gene showed an upward trend throughout the differentiation and development of sperm cells. In conclusion, we report here that KIF2C may be closely related to the differentiation and development of sperm cells in KS patients, which is important for revealing the molecular mechanism of KS and conducting further studies.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to present preliminary results and experience with iliosacral screws and plate combination (horizontal triangular osteosynthesis, HTO) in the management of Tile B3 pelvic fractures. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 26 patients (18 male, 8 female; mean age = 46, age range = 31-58 years) who were treated with horizontal triangular osteosynthesis using the combination of bilateral percutaneous iliosacral screws and transiliac plates due to Tile B3 pelvic fractures in our institution were included. The accompanying symptoms, blood loss, operation time , fracture healing time, and postoperative complications were observed and recorded. Patients were followed up retrospectively with routine post-operation visits for clinical and radiographic examination. The reduction quality was evaluated according to Matta criterion. Clinical and nerve function outcomes were evaluated by Majeed and Gibbons criterion. RESULTS: The mean follow-up time was 15 months (range = 12-21 months). The mean blood loss and operation time were 24.6 ± 6.7mL and 30.5 ± 3.47 mins, respectively. Patients experienced early weight-bearing ability and no fracture reduction loss. Due to Matta criterion for fracture reduction, the results were excellent in 16 cases, good in 9 cases, and fair in 1 case. Due to Majeed functional scoring at the last follow-up, the results were excellent in 17 cases, good in 9 cases. Of 3 patients in whom neurologic impairment was detected preoperatively, 2 achieved complete recovery, and 1 achieved partial improvement postoperatively. CONCLUSION: As a new surgical concept in the management of Tile B3 pelvic fractures, HTO seems to provide the following advantages: horizontal triangular fixation, minimally invasive incisions, less blood loss, and permitting early weight-bearing ability. However, there still exist several problems regarding the technique and the option of implants. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV, Therapeutic Study.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Decidualization is critical for embryo implantation and the success of pregnancy; however, the mechanisms underlying this process remain largely unknown. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the present study, RNA sequencing was used to detect the expression levels of transducer of ERBB2/1(TOB1) in endometrial samples derived from proliferative and secretory phases. A decidualization model was induced using the combination of estrogen (E2) and progestin (P4) in human endometrial stromal cells (HESCs). The cell counting kit-8 assay was used to detect the viability of HESCs. Related proteins were detected by qPCR and western blot. RESULT: The results indicated that TOB1 expression was upregulated in the secretory endometrial samples compared with the corresponding expression observed in the proliferative samples. The expression levels of TOB1 and Notch1 were markedly increased in E2P4-treated HESCs compared with those in the control cells. Treatment with E2P4 strongly suppressed the proliferation of HESCs and induced a G1-phase cell cycle arrest. These effects were abolished by knockdown of TOB1 or treatment with of the cells with the Notch inhibitor N-[N-(3,5-difluorophenacetyl)-1-alanyl]-S-phenylglycine t-butyl ester. CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, these findings highlighted an important role for TOB1/Notch signaling in E2P4-induced decidualization in HESCs, which may provide novel targets for improving the endometrial receptivity.

RESUMO

Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) is one of the most important causes of male infertility. It is mainly characterized by the absence of sperm in semen repeatedly or the number of sperm is small and not fully developed. At present, its pathogenesis remains largely unknown. The goal of this study is to identify hub genes that might affect biomarkers related to spermatogenesis. Using the clinically significant transcriptome and single-cell sequencing data sets on the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, we identified candidate hub genes related to spermatogenesis. Based on them, we performed Gene Ontology (GO) functional enrichment analysis, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment pathway analyses, protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), cell cluster analysis, and pseudo-chronological analysis. We identified a total of 430 differentially expressed genes, of which three have not been reported related to spermatogenesis (C22orf23, TSACC, and TTC25), and the expression of these three hub genes was different in each type of sperm cells. The results of the pseudo-chronological analysis of the three hub genes indicated that TTC25 was in a low expression state during the whole process of sperm development, while the expression of C22orf23 had two fluctuations in the differentiating spermatogonia and late primary spermatocyte stages, and TSACC showed an upward trend from the spermatogonial stem cell stage to the spermatogenesis stage. Our research found that the three hub genes were different in the trajectory of sperm development, indicating that they might play important roles in different sperm cells. This result is of great significance for revealing the pathogenic mechanism of NOA and further research.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of different methods for treating cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP). METHODS: The clinical data of 134 patients diagnosed with CSP in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University were retrospectively analyzed. Grouped by treatment plan: pretreatments +ultrasound guided Curettage group (group A), pretreatments+ laparotomy (group B). Group A was sub-grouped according to the pretreatments: ultrasound guided uterine evacuation (A1), uterine arterial embolism (UAE) + ultrasound guided uterine evacuation (A2), high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) + ultrasound guided uterine evacuation (A3); group B was sub-groups according to pretreatments: laparotomy (B1), UAE + laparotomy (B2). RESULTS: The success rates of treatment in groups A and B were 72.73%-100%, and it was statistically significant (P<0.05) There were no statistically significant in the blood loss and the degree of decrease of ß-hCG in these two group (P>0.05). The operation time, length of stay and cost were statistically significant between curettage group and laparotomy group (P<0.05); there was no significant difference in the degree of ß-HCG decrease (%) and surgical bleeding volume. The success rate in group A1-A3 was 64.10%, 96.52% and 100% respectively, which was statistically significant (P<0.05). No statistically significant were showed in operation time, Length of stay and the degree of decrease of ß-hCG within 5 days after operation in A1-A3 group (P>0.05). The blood loss and cost between A1 and A3 groups were statistically significant (P<0.05). The success rate in group B1-B2 were both 100%, with no statistically significant (P>0.05). There were no statistically significant in operation time, blood loss, degree of decrease of ß-hCG, length of stay between the two groups (P>0.05). The cost between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasound-guided uterine Curettage can be used as a better treatment for type I and II scar pregnancy. UAE or HIFU before Curettage can reduce uterine bleeding, while UAE before the laparotomy did not reduce uterine bleeding.

RESUMO

To investigate the possible effects of sulfamonomethoxine (SMM) on Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), we quantitatively evaluated the microbial shifts in the intestines of Nile tilapia in response to different doses of SMM (200 and 300 mg/kg) using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. At the phylum level, the control group (0 mg kg-1  SMM) was dominated by Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Firmicutes. In the treatment groups, Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Chloroflexi were the dominant phyla. Cluster analysis indicated that the two groups treated with SMM clustered together. Similarly, the bacterial families that dominated the control group differed from those dominating the treatment groups. The changes in intestinal microbial composition over time were similar between the two SMM treatment groups. In both groups, the abundances of some families, including the Bacillaceae, Streptococcaceae, and Pseudomonadaceae, increased first and then decreased. Overall, the addition of SMM to the feed changed the structure of the intestinal microbiota in Nile tilapia. This study improves our understanding of the impact of SMM on the intestinal microenvironment of Nile tilapia. Our results provide guidelines for the feasibility of SMM use in aquaculture production.
