RESUMO
Limited scientific evidence exists on phosphorus immobilization under autogenetic electrochemical reactions in composting systems. This study exploited a composting procedure using microbial fuel cell (MFC) to ascertain phosphorus redistribution during composting process. Compared to the control without MFC equipment, MFC-assisted treatment yielded a 13 % decrease in phosphorus availability due to the transformation of exchangeable fraction (Ex-P) to aluminum-bound (Al-P) and calcium-bound (Ca-P) fractions. During the composting process, organic humification primarily controlled phosphorus redistribution and immobilization. Biotic factors, including bacterial communities (i.e., Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Bacteroidota, and Gemmatimonadota) and functional enzymes (i.e., acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, phytase, and C-P lyase), significantly influenced phosphorus availability in the composting systems. Temperature-dependent composting phases restricted microbial actions on phosphorus transformation. These findings highlight the mechanisms underlying phosphorus transformation in composting systems, and provide valuable insights for advancing composting technology and protecting agricultural ecosystems.

Numerous applications at the photon-starved regime require a free-space coupling single-photon detector with a large active area, low dark count rate (DCR), and superior time resolutions. Here, we developed a superconducting microstrip single-photon detector (SMSPD), with a large active area of 260 µm in diameter, a DCR of â¼5k c p s, and a low time jitter of â¼171p s, operated at a near-infrared of 1550 nm and a temperature of â¼2.0K. As a demonstration, we applied the detector to a single-pixel galvanometer scanning system and successfully reconstructed the object information in depth and intensity using a time-correlated photon counting technology.

Objectives: CD4+ T cell helper and regulatory function in human cancers has been well characterised. However, the definition of tumor-infiltrating CD4+ T cell exhaustion and how it contributes to the immune response and disease progression in human gastric cancer (GC) remain largely unknown. Methods: A total of 128 GC patients were enrolled in the study. The expression of CD39 and PD-1 on CD4+ T cells in the different samples was analysed by flow cytometry. GC-infiltrating CD4+ T cell subpopulations based on CD39 expression were phenotypically and functionally assessed. The role of CD39 in the immune response of GC-infiltrating T cells was investigated by inhibiting CD39 enzymatic activity. Results: In comparison with CD4+ T cells from the non-tumor tissues, significantly more GC-infiltrating CD4+ T cells expressed CD39. Most GC-infiltrating CD39+CD4+ T cells exhibited CD45RA-CCR7- effector-memory phenotype expressing more exhaustion-associated inhibitory molecules and transcription factors and produced less TNF-α, IFN-γ and cytolytic molecules than their CD39-CD4+ counterparts. Moreover, ex vivo inhibition of CD39 enzymatic activity enhanced their functional potential reflected by TNF-α and IFN-γ production. Finally, increased percentages of GC-infiltrating CD39+CD4+ T cells were positively associated with disease progression and patients' poorer overall survival. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that CD39 expression defines GC-infiltrating CD4+ T cell exhaustion and their immunosuppressive function. Targeting CD39 may be a promising therapeutic strategy for treating GC patients.
RESUMO
PURPOSE: The temporal evolution of ventricular trabecular complexity and its correlation with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) remain indeterminate in patients presenting with acute ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). METHODS: This retrospective analysis enrolled patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) for acute STEMI, possessing cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) data in the acute (within 7 days), subacute (1 month after pPCI), and chronic phases (6 months after pPCI) from January 2015 to January 2020 at the three participating sites. Fractal dimensions (FD) were measured for the global, infarct, and remote regions of left ventricular trabeculae during each phase. The potential association of FD with MACE was analyzed using multivariate Cox regression. RESULTS: Among the 200 analyzed patients (182 men; median age, 61 years; age range, 50-66 years), 37 (18.5%) encountered MACE during a median follow-up of 31.2 months. FD exhibited a gradual decrement (global FD at acute, subacute, and chronic phases: 1.253 ± 0.049, 1.239 ± 0.046, 1.230 ± 0.045, p < 0.0001), with a more pronounced decrease observed in patients subsequently experiencing MACE (p < 0.001). The global FD at the subacute phase correlated with MACE (hazard ratio 0.89 (0.82, 0.97), p = 0.01), and a global FD value below 1.26 was associated with a heightened risk. CONCLUSION: In patients post-STEMI, the global FD, serving as an indicator of left ventricular trabeculae complexity, independently demonstrated an association with subsequent major adverse cardiovascular events, beyond factors encompassing left ventricular ejection fraction, indexed left ventricular end-diastolic volume, infarct size, heart rate, NYHA class, and post-pPCI TIMI flow. CRITICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: In patients who have had an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, global fractal dimension, as a measure of left ventricular trabeculae complexity, provided independent association with subsequent major adverse cardiovascular event. KEY POINTS: ⢠Global and regional FD decreased after STEMI, and more so in patients with subsequent MACE. ⢠Lower global FD at the subacute phase and Δglobal FD from acute to subacute phase were associated with subsequent MACE besides clinical and CMR factors. ⢠Global FD at the subacute phase independently correlated with MACE and global FD value below 1.26 was associated with higher risk.
RESUMO
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor PPARγ coactivator-α (PGC-1α) is concentrated in inhibitory interneurons and plays a vital role in neuropsychiatric diseases. We previously reported some characteristic features of schizophrenia (SZ) in GABAergic neuron-specific Pgc-1alpha knockout (KO) mice (Dlx5/6-Cre: Pgc-1alphaf/f). However, there is a fundamental gap in the molecular mechanism by which the Pgc-1alpha gene is involved in the neurobehavioral abnormalities of SZ. The loss of critical period (CP) triggers-maturations of parvalbumin interneurons (PVIs) and brakes-and the formation of perineuronal nets (PNNs) implicates mistimed trajectories during adult brain development. In this study, using the Pgc-1alpha KO mouse line, we investigated the association of Pgc-1alpha gene deletion with SZ-like behavioral deficits, PVI maturation, PNN integrity and synaptic ultrastructure. These findings suggest that Pgc-1alpha gene deletion resulted in a failure of CP onset and closure, thereby prolonging cortical plasticity timing. To determine whether the manipulation of the PNN structure is a potential method of altering neuronal plasticity, GM6001, a broad-spectrum matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-inhibitor was applied. Here we confirmed that the treatment could effectively correct the CP plasticity window and ameliorate the synaptic ultrastructure in the Pgc-1alpha KO brain. Moreover, the intervention effect on neuronal plasticity was followed by the rescue of short-term habituation deficits and the mitigation of aberrant salience, which are some characteristic features of SZ. Taken collectively, these findings suggest that the role of PGC-1α in regulating cortical plasticity is mediated, at least partially, through the regulation of CP onset/closure. Strategically introduced reinforcement of molecular brakes may be a novel preventive therapy for psychiatric disorders associated with PGC-1α dysregulation.
RESUMO
Background: MRI is the routine examination to surveil the recurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, but it has relatively lower sensitivity than PET/CT. We aimed to find if artificial intelligence (AI) could be competent pre-inspector for MRI radiologists and whether AI-aided MRI could perform better or even equal to PET/CT. Methods: This multicenter study enrolled 6916 patients from five hospitals between September 2009 and October 2020. A 2.5D convolutional neural network diagnostic model and a nnU-Net contouring model were developed in the training and test cohorts and used to independently predict and visualize the recurrence of patients in the internal and external validation cohorts. We evaluated the area under the ROC curve (AUC) of AI and compared AI with MRI and PET/CT in sensitivity and specificity using the McNemar test. The prospective cohort was randomized into the AI and non-AI groups, and their sensitivity and specificity were compared using the Chi-square test. Findings: The AI model achieved AUCs of 0.92 and 0.88 in the internal and external validation cohorts, corresponding to the sensitivity of 79.5% and 74.3% and specificity of 91.0% and 92.8%. It had comparable sensitivity to MRI (e.g., 74.3% vs. 74.7%, P = 0.89) but lower sensitivity than PET/CT (77.9% vs. 92.0%, P < 0.0001) at the same individual-specificities. The AI model achieved moderate precision with a median dice similarity coefficient of 0.67. AI-aided MRI improved specificity (92.5% vs. 85.0%, P = 0.034), equaled PET/CT in the internal validation subcohort, and increased sensitivity (81.9% vs. 70.8%, P = 0.021) in the external validation subcohort. In the prospective cohort of 1248 patients, the AI group had higher sensitivity than the non-AI group (78.6% vs. 67.3%, P = 0.23), albeit nonsignificant. In future randomized controlled trials, a sample size of 3943 patients in each arm would be required to demonstrate the statistically significant difference. Interpretation: The AI model equaled MRI by expert radiologists, and AI-aided MRI by expert radiologists equaled PET/CT. A larger randomized controlled trial is warranted to demonstrate the AI's benefit sufficiently. RESUMO
We propose a method for coupling a tapered optical fiber to an inverted tapered SiN waveguide by fabricating a microfiber using 3D nanoprinting lithography. The microfiber consists of three parts: a tapered cladding cap, an S-bend, and a straight part, all composed of high-refractive-index material. Light is adiabatically coupled from the tapered fiber to the printed microfiber through the cladding cap. The light is then transmitted through the S-bend and the straight part with low loss and is finally coupled to the waveguide through the evanescent field. In the simulation, our design can achieve a high coupling efficiency (TE mode) of â¼97% at a wavelength of 1542 nm with a wide bandwidth of â¼768n m at the 1-dB cutoff criterion.

Quantum key distribution (QKD) aims to generate secure private keys shared by two remote parties. With its security being protected by principles of quantum mechanics, some technology challenges remain towards practical application of QKD. The major one is the distance limit, which is caused by the fact that a quantum signal cannot be amplified while the channel loss is exponential with the distance for photon transmission in optical fiber. Here using the 3-intensity sending-or-not-sending protocol with the actively-odd-parity-pairing method, we demonstrate a fiber-based twin-field QKD over 1002 km. In our experiment, we developed a dual-band phase estimation and ultra-low noise superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors to suppress the system noise to around 0.02 Hz. The secure key rate is 9.53×10^{-12} per pulse through 1002 km fiber in the asymptotic regime, and 8.75×10^{-12} per pulse at 952 km considering the finite size effect. Our work constitutes a critical step towards the future large-scale quantum network.

Gaussian boson sampling (GBS) is not only a feasible protocol for demonstrating quantum computational advantage, but also mathematically associated with certain graph-related and quantum chemistry problems. In particular, it is proposed that the generated samples from the GBS could be harnessed to enhance the classical stochastic algorithms in searching some graph features. Here, we use JiÇzhang, a noisy intermediate-scale quantum computer, to solve graph problems. The samples are generated from a 144-mode fully connected photonic processor, with photon click up to 80 in the quantum computational advantage regime. We investigate the open question of whether the GBS enhancement over the classical stochastic algorithms persists-and how it scales-with an increasing system size on noisy quantum devices in the computationally interesting regime. We experimentally observe the presence of GBS enhancement with a large photon-click number and a robustness of the enhancement under certain noise. Our work is a step toward testing real-world problems using the existing noisy intermediate-scale quantum computers and hopes to stimulate the development of more efficient classical and quantum-inspired algorithms.
RESUMO
The effective and convenient detection of single photons via advanced detectors with a large active area is becoming significant for quantum and classical applications. This work demonstrates the fabrication of a superconducting microstrip single-photon detector (SMSPD) with a millimeter-scale active area via the use of ultraviolet (UV) photolithography. The performances of NbN SMSPDs with different active areas and strip widths are characterized. SMSPDs fabricated by UV photolithography and electron beam lithography with small active areas are also compared from the aspects of the switching current density and line edge roughness. Furthermore, an SMSPD with an active area of 1 mm × 1 mm is obtained via UV photolithography, and during operation at 0.85â K, it exhibits near-saturated internal detection efficiency at wavelengths up to 800â nm. At a wavelength of 1550â nm, the detector exhibits a system detection efficiency of â¼5% (7%) and a timing jitter of 102 (144) ps, when illuminated with a light spot of â¼18 (600) µm in diameter, respectively.
RESUMO
In August 2020, the observations of total peroxy radical concentrations were carried out in the western suburb site of Hefei using a peroxy radical chemical amplifier (PERCA) instrument. The ozone production and its sensitivity were characterized with the measured O3 and its precursors. The results showed that the daily variation in total peroxy radical concentrations exhibited an obvious convex tend, with the highest value at approximately 12:00; the average peak peroxy radical concentration was 43.8×10-12; and the concentrations of the peroxy radical and ozone were driven by strong solar radiation and high temperature. The photochemical ozone production rate could be determined with peroxy radical and NO concentration. The average ozone peak production rate in summer was 10.6×10-9 h-1, which was more sensitive to NO concentration. Based on the ratio of the radical loss rate due to reactions with NOx to the radical loss rate (Ln/Q), the characteristics of O3 production in the western suburb of Hefei in summer were analyzed. The results showed that O3 production sensitivity varied greatly during the day. The summer O3 production regime shifted from the VOC-sensitive chemistry in the early morning to NOx-sensitive chemistry in the afternoon, and this regime transition typically occurred in the morning.
RESUMO
Strategies to enhance hippocampal precursor cells efficiently differentiate into neurons could be crucial for structural repair after neurodegenerative damage. FOXG1 has been shown to play an important role in pattern formation, cell proliferation, and cell specification during embryonic and early postnatal neurogenesis. Thus far, the role of FOXG1 in adult hippocampal neurogenesis is largely unknown. Utilizing CAG-loxp-stop-loxp-Foxg1-IRES-EGFP (Foxg1fl/fl), a specific mouse line combined with CreAAV infusion, we successfully forced FOXG1 overexpressed in the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) of the genotype mice. Thereafter, we explored the function of FOXG1 on neuronal lineage progression and hippocampal neurogenesis in adult mice. By inhibiting p21cip1 expression, FOXG1-regulated activities enable the expansion of the precursor cell population. Besides, FOXG1 induced quiescent radial-glia like type I neural progenitor, giving rise to intermediate progenitor cells, neuroblasts in the hippocampal DG. Through increasing the length of G1 phase, FOXG1 promoted lineage-committed cells to exit the cell cycle and differentiate into mature neurons. The present results suggest that FOXG1 likely promotes neuronal lineage progression and thereby contributes to adult hippocampal neurogenesis. Elevating FOXG1 levels either pharmacologically or through other means could present a therapeutic strategy for disease related with neuronal loss.

Plant intraspecific trait variation (ITV) including sex-dependent differences are matters of many ecological consequences, from individual to ecosystem, especially in endangered and rare species. Taxus fuana is an endangered dioecious species with small and isolated populations endemic to the Himalayas region. Little is known about its trait variation between sexes, and among populations. In this study, 18 leaf traits from 179 reproductive trees (males and females) along the altitude (2600-3200m a.s.l.) of the T. fuana populations distributed in Gyirong County, Tibet, China, were measured. ITV and sources of variation in leaf traits were assessed. The relationship between leaf traits of males and females and altitude was analyzed separately. Variations in leaf traits of T. fuana ranged from 3.1% to 24.2%, with the smallest in leaf carbon content and the largest in leaf thickness to area ratio. On average 78.13% of the variation in leaf traits was from within populations and 21.87% among populations. The trends in leaf width, leaf nitrogen to phosphorus ratio, leaf carbon to nitrogen ratio, leaf carbon isotope ratio, and leaf nitrogen isotope ratio in relation to altitude were the same for males and females. Leaf length to width ratio varied significantly with altitude only in males, while leaf phosphorus content, leaf nitrogen content, and leaf carbon to phosphorus ratio varied significantly with altitude only in females. The correlation coefficients of most leaf traits of females with altitude were larger than that of males. In the relationship between leaf traits, there was a high similarity among males and females, but the altitude accounted for more explanation in females than in males. Our results suggested that the variation in leaf traits of T. fuana was small and did not dominate the interspecific competition in the local communities. Adaptation to the altitude gradient of T. fuana might be through altering nutrient storage processes and water use efficiency. Adaptation of male and female T. fuana to environmental changes showed differences, where the males were more tolerant and the females responded greatly to altitude. The differences in adaptation strategies between male and female T. fuana may be detrimental to the maintenance of their populations.

Twin-field quantum key distribution (TFQKD) promises ultralong secure key distribution which surpasses the rate distance limit and can reduce the number of the trusted nodes in long-haul quantum network. Tremendous efforts have been made toward implementation of TFQKD, among which, the secure key with finite size analysis can distribute more than 500 km in the lab and in the field. Here, we demonstrate the sending-or-not-sending TFQKD experimentally, achieving a secure key distribution with finite size analysis over a 658 km ultra-low-loss optical fiber. Meanwhile, in a TFQKD system, any phase fluctuation due to temperature variation and ambient variation during the channel must be recorded and compensated, and all this phase information can then be utilized to sense the channel vibration perturbations. With our quantum key distribution system, we recovered the external vibrational perturbations generated by artificial vibroseis on both the quantum and frequency calibration link, and successfully located the perturbation position in the frequency calibration fiber with a resolution better than 1 km. Our results not only set a new distance record of quantum key distribution, but also demonstrate that the redundant information of TFQKD can be used for remote sensing of the channel vibration, which can find applications in earthquake detection and landslide monitoring besides secure communication.
RESUMO
Based on the flow direction of the Fuhe River into Baiyangdian Lake, the impacted area of the Fuhe River was divided into 6 subareas, and sediments from 48 sites were collected in November 2020. The characteristics and risks of sediment nutrients and heavy metal pollution in these six subareas were investigated. The results showed that the average ω(TN), ω(TP), and ω(TOC) were 1841 mg·kg-1, 769 mg·kg-1, and 1.77%, respectively. The major heavy metals were Cd, Cu, Zn, Hg, and Pb, which were 3.73, 1.50, 1.42, 1.31, and 1.31 times the soil background values for Hebei Province, respectively. The TP and heavy metal (Cd, Cu, Zn, Hg, and Pb) content showed a decreasing trend from the Fuhe River estuary to the downstream Zaolinzhuang, whereas the TN and TOC content showed no marked trends. TN, TP, TOC, and heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Zn, Hg, and Pb) were enriched in surface sediments (0-10 cm). The TP content in the surface sediments (0-10 cm) of the Fuhe River estuary, Fuhe River estuary-Nanliuzhuang, and Nanliuzhuang subareas were heavily polluted; the Wangjiazhai and Guangdian subareas were moderately polluted; and the Zaolinzhuang subarea was slightly polluted. Cd and Hg were the major contributors to heavy metal pollution, which were at considerable risk and moderate risk levels, respectively. The heavy metals in surface sediments (0-10 cm) of the Fuhe River estuary, Fuhe River estuary-Nanliuzhuang, and Nanliuzhuang subareas were at a considerable risk level, and the sediments below 30 cm presented a low risk level. The leaching concentrations of heavy metals in sediments from the subarea of severe ecological risk level were far less than the identification standard values of leaching toxicity, suggesting that the sediments can be treated as general waste after dredging.

Genomic instability (GIN) is pivotal in regulating tumor drug resistance, which blocked the treatment of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Although recent studies implied that non-coding RNA (ncRNA)-mediated autophagy abolishment promoted tumorigenesis by up-regulation of GIN, autophagy was known as a risk factor in tumor drug resistance. However, previous study also pointed that up-regulation of autophagy promoted GIN. Therefore, the relationship between autophagy and GIN is not clear, and more work is needed. And, if an ncRNA is identified to be a co-regulator of autophagy and GIN, it will be a potential therapy target of chemotherapy resistance in TNBC. In our study, we recognized both autophagy-GIN-associated microRNA (mi-26a-5p) by big data analysis, which was prognosis-correlated in breast cancer. Next, we identified the up-stream regulators (long non-coding RNA, lncRNA) and down-stream targets of miR-26a-5p by bioinformatics analysis (online public databases). Finally, we established lncRNA OTUD6B-AS1/miR-26a-5p/MTDH signaling pathway, and verified their functions by cytological, molecular biological and zoological experiments. In general, our study found (1) miR-26a-5p was a protective factor of breast cancer, while OTUD6B-AS1 and MTDH were risk factors; (2) OTUD6B-AS1 was the up-stream regulator of miR-26a-5p verified by luciferase; (3) up-regulation of miR-26a-5p and down-regulation of MTDH promoted cellular cytotoxicity of paclitaxel (PTX) in vitro and in vivo. (4) down-regulation of miR-26a-5p, overexpression of MTDH and OTUD6B-AS1 promoted autophagy and DNA damage; (5) up-regulation of OTUD6B-AS1 and MTDH inhibited DNA damage response (DDR) by inhibiting the phosphorylated activation of RAD51, ATR and ATM.

We report phase-programmable Gaussian boson sampling (GBS) which produces up to 113 photon detection events out of a 144-mode photonic circuit. A new high-brightness and scalable quantum light source is developed, exploring the idea of stimulated emission of squeezed photons, which has simultaneously near-unity purity and efficiency. This GBS is programmable by tuning the phase of the input squeezed states. The obtained samples are efficiently validated by inferring from computationally friendly subsystems, which rules out hypotheses including distinguishable photons and thermal states. We show that our GBS experiment passes a nonclassicality test based on inequality constraints, and we reveal nontrivial genuine high-order correlations in the GBS samples, which are evidence of robustness against possible classical simulation schemes. This photonic quantum computer, Jiuzhang 2.0, yields a Hilbert space dimension up to â¼10^{43}, and a sampling rate â¼10^{24} faster than using brute-force simulation on classical supercomputers.
RESUMO
A total of 22 antibiotics and 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) in sediments before and after desilting in typical areas(fish ponds and open water) of Baiyangdian Lake were analyzed using HPLC-MS/MS and GC/MS(high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry), to evaluate their potentially risks to the ecological environment. The results showed that the contents of 22 antibiotics in Baiyangdian Lake sediments ranged from 0 to 52.89 ng·g-1, in which the quinolones content was the highest. After dredging treatment, the average content of antibiotics in Nanliuzhuang open water area decreased from 46.25 ng·g-1 to 9 ng·g-1(80.54% reduction), while the average content of antibiotic(19.07 ng·g-1) in Caiputai remained relatively stable. Therefore, the dredging treatment performed better in removing antibiotics from Naliuzhuang area. The total contents of 16 PAHs in sediments ranged from 23.79 ng·g-1 to 329.40 ng·g-1, in which Naphthalene was the highest(242.02 ng·g-1), while Fluoranthene was the lowest. The average content of PAHs in sediments in Nanliuzhuang decreased from 117.45 ng·g-1 to 50.49 ng·g-1 after dredging, while PAHs in Caiputai(57.98 ng·g-1) remained stable; the 57.01% reduction in PAHs in Nanliuzhuang open water indicated that dredging treatment exhibited stronger effects on PAHs variations in Nanliuzhuang compared to that of Caiputai. In addition, the ecological risk assessment showed that the risk of Enrofloxacin and Norfloxacin was high in area S2 of Nanliuzhuang open water, while PAHs exhibited relatively low ecological risk, in which the Naphthalene in area S1 of Fuhe river posed medium ecological risk while the remaining produced low ecological risks. The results indicated that quinolone antibiotics in sediments of the un-dredged area of Baiyangdian Lake should be monitored due to its higher ecological risk.

A dredging demonstration project in the Baiyangdian Lake included open waters and fishing ponds to reduce the internal release of nitrogen and phosphorus from bottom sediments. The dredging depth design was determined by both the sediment vertical distribution profile of total nitrogen and phosphorus, and the sediment adsorption-desorption equilibrium method. The determined dredging depths were very similar and coincident. The dredging depth for the demonstration area of open waters in Nanliuzhuang was identified as(50±10) cm; and the dredging depths for fishing ponds were(30±10) cm in both the Nanliuzhuang and Caiputai demonstration areas. The equilibrium nitrogen(NH4+-N) and phosphorus(SRP) concentrations at zero net sorption or desorption(ENC0 and EPC0) were significantly positively correlated with both exchangeable and total nitrogen and phosphorus in the sediments. The total nitrogen and phosphorus in the sediments were also used to predict the risk of their release from the bottom sediments to the overlying water column. The sediment layers with ENC0 and EPC0 values greater than the NH4+-N and SRP in the overlying water column indicated the sediments act as a source of dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus to the overlying water column in the Nanliuzhuang and Caiputai demonstration areas. Accordingly, the sediment layers with both total nitrogen concentrations greater than 750 mg·kg-1 and total phosphorus concentrations greater than 500 mg·kg-1 should be identified as dredging layers.

Superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) have attracted remarkable interest for visible and near-infrared single-photon detection due to their outstanding performance. However, conventional SNSPDs are generally used as binary photon-counting detectors. Another important characteristic of light, i.e., polarization, which can provide additional information of the object, has not been resolved using the standalone SNSPD. In this work, we present a first prototype of the polarimeter based on a four-pixel superconducting nanowire array, capable of resolving the polarization state of linearly-polarized light at the single-photon level. The detector array design is based on a division of focal plane configuration in which the orientation of each nanowire division (pixel) is offset by 45°. Each single nanowire pixel operates as a combination of a photon detector and almost linear polarization filter, with an average polarization extinction ratio of â¼10. The total system detection efficiency of the array is â¼1% at a total dark count rate of 680 cps, with a timing jitter of 126 ps, when the detector array is free-space coupled and illuminated with 1550-nm photons. The mean errors of the measured angle of polarization and degree of linear polarization were about -3° and 0.12, respectively. Furthermore, we successfully demonstrated polarization imaging at low-light level using the proposed detector. Our results pave the way for the development of a single-photon sensitive, fast, and large-scale integrated polarization polarimeter or imager. Such detector may find promising application in photon-starved polarization resolving and imaging with high spatial and temporal resolution.
