RESUMO

Aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) have garnered significant attention in large-scale static energy storage battery systems due to their low cost, high safety and environmental friendliness. However, it has some inherent problems during operation, such as the occurrence of side reactions (hydrogen evolution reaction, HER) and anode corrosion, formation of by-products and growth of metal dendrites. To analyze the mechanism of generation from aspect of the electrolyte solvation structure and make cell efficiency further improvements based on it, so we use DFT calculations to find the most stable solvation structure in AZIBs with ZnCl2 as the electrolyte and analyze it. We define the relative concentration Cr, and calculate different groups metal cation cluster structures such as [Zn(H2O)n]2+, [ZnCl(H2O)n]+, [ZnCl2(H2O)n] and [ZnCl3(H2O)n]- that exist at different Cr. We discuss the effect of different clusters formed due to the Cr variations on the battery performance in terms of three aspects: the structural conformation, the cluster characteristics (including the hydrogen bonding network, bond lengths, bond angles, as well as the electrostatic potential ESP) and the cluster performance (including the adsorption energy Ea, binding energy Eb, and desolvation energy Edes). The results shows that the electrolyte metal cation Zn2+ can be coordinated with up to six H2O molecules in first shell, and this metal cation solvation structure contributes to the occurrence and formation of side reactions and by-products, which reduces the battery efficiency. Increasing the electrolyte anion Cl- concentration by appropriately increasing the Cr helps to desolvate the metal cation cluster structure, which greatly improves the battery efficiency and suppresses the side reactions and by-products. Yet the improvement effect was not obviously further improved by further increasing the Cl- concentration.

RESUMO

PCDD/Fs are dioxins produced by waste incineration and pose risks to human health. We aimed to detail the health risks of airborne and soil PCDD/Fs near a municipal solid-waste incinerator (MSWI) for the surrounding population and develop a new model that improves upon existing methods. Thus, we conducted field sampling and then investigated a MSWI in the Pearl River Delta (2016-2018). Our results showed that the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risk values of PCDD/Fs exposed to residents in nearby areas were acceptable, with hazard index (HI) values lower than 1.0 and a total carcinogenic risk lower than 1.0E-6. Notably, the results raised concerns regarding higher non-carcinogenic risks in children than in adults. Comparative analysis of the frequency accumulation diagram, accumulated probability risk, and the absolute value of error (δ) between the 95% confidence interval (CI) and the 90% CI of the Monte Carlo stochastic simulation-triangular fuzzy number (MCSS-TFN) and the MCSS model, respectively, demonstrated that the MCSS-TFN exhibited less uncertainty than the MCSS model, regardless of the health risk value of PCDD/Fs in ambient air or in soil. This observation underscores the superiority of the MCSS-TFN model over other models in assessing the health risks associated with PCDD/Fs in situations with limited data. Our new method overcomes the limited dataset size and high uncertainty in assessing the health risks of dioxin substances, providing a more comprehensive understanding of their associated health risks than MCSS models.

RESUMO

Microplastic (MP) pollution of agricultural soils has caused global alarm over its widespread distribution and potential risks to terrestrial ecosystems and human health. This study assessed human health based on exposure to soil MPs through a comprehensive investigation of the factors influencing their occurrence and spatial distribution on Hainan Island, South China. The results showed that the abundance of soil MPs was 1128.6 ± 391.5 items·kg-1, whereas the normalized abundance of MPs based on using a power-law function was 19,261.4 items·kg-1. Regarding the extent of population exposure to agricultural soil MPs, the average daily exposure dose (pADD) model revealed that using mass as an indicator to assess the health risks associated with MP intake is more reliable than using abundance. However, abundance-based exposure assessments are also relevant because MPs with smaller particle sizes are more harmful to human health. Moreover, for adults, the normalized pADD values based on abundance and mass were 1.68E-02 item MPs·kg BW-1·d-1 and 7.23E-02 mg MPs·kg BW-1·d-1, respectively. Although the multidimensionality of MPs should be further aligned and quantified, the preliminary findings of this study contribute to the development of human health risk assessment frameworks for soil MPs.

RESUMO

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, nonmotile and yellow-pigmented bacterium designated E7-10T was isolated from a bleached scleractinian coral Porites lutea. Strain E7-10T grew with 1.0-8.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 4.0 %), at 18-41 °C (optimum, 28 °C) and at pH 6.0-10.0 (optimum, pH 8.0). Phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that E7-10T formed a lineage within the genus Hoeflea, but it was distinct from the closest species 'Hoeflea prorocentri' PM5-8T, showing 98.01 % sequence similarity. The predominant cellular fatty acids of E7-10T were summed feature 8 (26.7 %), C18 : 1 ω7c 11-methyl (26.2 %), C16 : 0 (20.8 %) and C19 : 0 cyclo ω8c (17.9 %). The major respiratory quinone was Q-10. The polar lipids mainly comprised phosphatidylethanolamine, two glycolipids and five phospholipids. The genome size of E7-10T was 5.58 Mb with G+C content 60.27 mol%. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity values between the genomes of strains E7-10T and PM5-8T were 19.50 and 75.95 %, respectively, which were both below the defined cutoff values (70 % and 95-96 %, respectively) for species delimitation. Thus, strain E7-10T represents a novel species within the genus Hoeflea, for which the name Hoeflea poritis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is E7-10T (=JCM 35852T=MCCC 1K08229T).

RESUMO

Microplastics have gained considerable attention as a growing environmental problem owing to their potential to serve as vectors for harmful chemicals. However, the leaching of these chemicals from microplastics is unclear. In this study, we investigated the leaching of two organophosphate flame retardants, triphenyl phosphate and tri-n-butyl phosphate, from polystyrene microplastics in simulated digestive fluids and water, and polypropylene microplastics were simultaneously used for comparison with polystyrene microplastics. The results indicated that the first-order kinetic model best explained the leaching process, suggesting that leaching was related to the release of organophosphate flame retardant molecules at the polymer surface. Additionally, the size and crystalline state of the microplastics had a significant effect on the leaching, whereas organophosphate flame retardant content had a minimal impact. Simulated digestive fluids facilitated the leaching to a different extent, and under these influencing conditions, leaching percentages from polystyrene microplastics did not exceed 0.51%. Therefore, leaching from PS microplastics may not be an important source of OPFRs in the environment. However, the release of organophosphate flame retardants can be considerably enhanced with the breakdown of polystyrene microplastics to polystyrene nanoplastics.

RESUMO

Traditional health risk assessment of trace metal(loid)s (TMs) in agricultural soil exclusively considers direct soil-related exposure and may underestimate the health risks they pose. In this study, the health risks of TMs were evaluated using an integrated model that combined soil-related and plant-accumulating exposures. A detailed investigation of common TMs (Cr, Pb, Cd, As, and Hg) coupled with probability risk analysis based on a Monte Carlo simulation was conducted on Hainan Island. Our results showed that, except for As, the non-carcinogenic risk (HI) and carcinogenic risk (CR) of the TMs were all within the acceptable ranges (HI < 1.0, and CR < 1E-06) for direct soil-related exposure to bio-accessible fractions and indirect exposure via plant accumulation (CR substantially lower than the warning threshold 1E-04). We identified crop food ingestion as the essential pathway for TM exposure and As as the critical toxic element in terms of risk control. Moreover, we determined that RfDo and SFo are the most suitable parameters for assessing As health risk severity. Our study demonstrated that the proposed integrated model combining soil-related and plant-accumulating exposures can avoid major health risk assessment deviations. The results obtained and the integrated model proposed in this study can facilitate future multi-pathway exposure research and could be the basis for determining agricultural soil quality criteria in tropical areas.

RESUMO

Microplastics (MPs) have gained significant attention due to their widespread presence in the environment. While studies have been conducted to investigate the risks associated with MPs, the potential effects of MPs on populations with varying dietary habits, such as dietary restriction (DR), remain largely undefined. The sensitivity of the body to invasive contaminants may increase due to insufficient food intake. Here, we aimed to investigate whether dietary restriction could affect the toxicity of MPs in mice. Following a 5-week exposure to 200 µg/L polystyrene microplastics (PSMPs), DR-PSMPs treatment group exhibited significant intestinal barrier dysfunction compared to ND-PSMPs treatment group, as determined by histopathological and biochemical analysis. Dietary restriction worsened liver oxidative stress and bile acid disorder in mice exposed to PSMPs. 16S rRNA sequencing analysis revealed that DR-PSMPs treatment caused alterations in gut microbiota composition, including the downregulation of probiotics abundance and upregulation of pathogenic bacteria abundance. The negative effects caused by PSMPs in mice with dietary restriction could attribute to increased MPs bioaccumulation, declined water intake, reduced probiotics abundance, and elevated pathogenic bacteria abundance, as well as the susceptibility of the dietary restriction individual. Our findings hint that the biological effects of contaminants could be affected by dietary habits.

RESUMO

Synthetic supramolecular transmembrane anionophores have emerged as promising anticancer chemotherapeutics. However, key to their targeted application is achieving spatiotemporally controlled activity. Herein, we report a series of chalcogen-bonding diaryl tellurium-based transporters in which their anion binding potency and anionophoric activity are controlled through reversible redox cycling between Te oxidation states. This unprecedented in situ reversible multistate switching allows for switching between ON and OFF anion transport and is crucially achieved with biomimetic chemical redox couples.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Functional assessment of myocardial ischemia is critical for patients with intermediate coronary stenosis. As the diagnosis performance of absolute quantification of myocardial blood flow (MBF) and myocardial flow reserve (MFR) by single-photon emission tomography (SPECT) has been proven, its prognostic value in patients with intermediate coronary stenosis remains to be evaluated. METHODS: Patients with one or more target lesions of ≥ 50% to ≤ 80% diameter stenoses on invasive coronary angiography were prospectively included in this study. All patients were scheduled for clinically indicated SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) within 3 months and agreed to provide informed consent to participate in quantitative SPECT acquisitions to obtain MBF and MFR values. The primary endpoint was defined as a composite of the major adverse cardiac events (MACE): Cardiac death, myocardial infarction, late revascularization and heart failure or unstable angina-related rehospitalization. RESULTS: One hundred and nineteen patients (mean age 57 ± 8 years, 62.2% men) were included in the analysis. The average lumen stenosis of patients was 67.0 ± 10.4%. Over a median follow-up duration of 1408 days (interquartile range 1297-1666 days), 18 patients (15.1%) had MACE. Patients with impaired MFR (MFR < 2) had a significantly higher incidence of events than those with preserved MFR (MFR ≥ 2) in Kaplan-Meier survival analysis (Log-rank = 8.105, P = 0.004), while no significant difference was found between patients with normal relative perfusion and those with relative perfusion abnormalities (log-rank = 0.098, P > 0.05). In a multivariate Cox hazards analysis, the SPECT-derived MFR remained an independent predictor of MACE (HR 0.352, 95% CI 0.145-0.854, P = 0.021). CONCLUSIONS: In a cohort of patients with angiographic intermediate coronary lesions, SPECT-derived MFR was an independent predictor of prognosis.

RESUMO

The first examples of halogen bonding (XB) heteroditopic homo[2]catenanes were prepared by discrete Na+ template-directed assembly of oligo(ethylene glycol) units derived from XB donor-containing macrocycles and acyclic bis-azide precursors, followed by a CuI -mediated azide-alkyne cycloaddition macrocyclisation reaction. Extensive 1 H NMR spectroscopic studies show the [2]catenane hosts exhibit positive cooperative ion-pair recognition behaviour, wherein XB-mediated halide recognition is enhanced by alkali metal cation pre-complexation. Notably, subtle changes in the catenanes' oligo(ethylene glycol) chain length dramatically alters their ion-binding affinity, stoichiometry, complexation mode, and conformational dynamics. Solution-phase and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies provide evidence for competing host-separated and direct-contact ion-pair binding modes. We further demonstrate the [2]catenanes are capable of extracting solid alkali-metal halide salts into organic media.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging with radiolabeled fibroblasts activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) provides the opportunity to directly visualize fibrosis. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of 68Ga-FAPI PET imaging in assessing right ventricular (RV) fibrotic remodeling and the relationship between FAPI uptake with parameters of pulmonary hemodynamics and cardiac function in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients. METHODS: In this pilot study, sixteen PAH patients were enrolled to participate in cardiac 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT imaging. All patients underwent right heart catheterization and echocardiography for assessment of pulmonary hemodynamics and cardiac function within seven days. Cardiac FAPI uptake was visually assessed and quantified as maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax). RESULTS: Twelve PAH patients exhibited FAPI uptake in RV free wall and insertion point. The overall activity of FAPI accumulated in the RV free wall (SUVmax: 2.5 ± 1.8, P < 0.001) and insertion point (SUVmax:2.5 ± 1.7, P < 0.001) was significantly upregulated compared to left ventricle (SUVmax:1.5 ± 0.5). Patients with tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) < 17 mm presented significantly higher uptake than those with TAPSE ≥ 17 mm in both RV free wall (SUVmax: 3.4 ± 1.9 vs 1.7 ± 1.1, P = 0.010) and insertion point (SUVmax: 3.4 ± 1.9 vs 1.6 ± 0.7, P = 0.028), indicating RV uptake of FAPI was associated with RV dysfunction. There was significant positive correlation between cardiac FAPI uptake and total pulmonary resistance and the level of N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide. CONCLUSIONS: 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT imaging is feasible to directly visualize fibrotic remodeling of RV in patients with PAH.

RESUMO

Background: Coal dust is a major risk factor for the occupational health of coal miners, and underground workers with coal mine dust lung disease (Coal miners with coal mine dust lung disease (CMDLD) may have a higher risk of developing Nodular thyroid disease (NTD). The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between coal mine dust lung disease and the development of Nodular thyroid disease in coal miners. Methods: This was a clinical retrospective observational study that included 955 male coal miners from 31 different coal mining companies in Huainan, Anhui Province, China, who were examined in April 2021 at the Huainan Occupational Disease Prevention and Control Hospital to collect all their clinical physical examination data, including general conditions, laboratory test indices and imaging indices. Based on the presence or absence of Nodular thyroid disease, 429 cases with Nodular thyroid disease were classified as the diseased group and 526 cases without Nodular thyroid disease were classified as the control group. Logistic regression was used to analyse the correlation between the occurrence of Nodular thyroid disease in coal miners, and further single- and multi-factor logistic regression was used to screen the risk exposure factors for Nodular thyroid disease in coal miners. Results: Age, coal mine dust lung disease (CMDLD), red blood cells (RBC), mean red blood cell volume (MCV), albumin (ALB), albumin/globulin (A/G), indirect bilirubin (IBIL), globulin (GLOB), total bilirubin (TBil) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) were associated with the development of Nodular thyroid disease in coal miners (p < 0.05) The results of univariate and multifactorial logistic regression analysis showed that CMDLD (OR:4.5,95%CI:2.79-7.51) had the highest OR and CMDLD was the strongest independent risk exposure factor for the development of Nodular thyroid disease in coal miners. Conclusions: There is a strong correlation between coal mine dust lung disease and Nodular thyroid disease in underground coal miners, and clinicians need to be highly aware of the high risk of NTD in coal miners with CMDLD and adopt individualized clinical prevention strategies.

RESUMO

Exceptionally strong halogen bonding (XB) donor-chloride interactions are exploited for the chloride anion template synthesis of neutral XB [2]rotaxane host systems which contain perfluoroaryl-functionalised axle components, including a remarkably potent novel 4,6-dinitro-1,3-bis-iodotriazole motif. Halide anion recognition properties in aqueous-organic media, determined via extensive 1 H NMR halide anion titration experiments, reveal the rotaxane host systems exhibit dramatically enhanced affinities for hydrophilic Cl- and Br- , but conversely diminished affinities for hydrophobic I- , relative to their non-interlocked axle counterparts. Crucially, this mechanical bond effect induces a binding selectivity which directly opposes Hofmeister bias. Free-energy analysis of this mechanical bond enhancement demonstrates anion recognition by neutral XB interlocked host systems as a rare and general strategy to engineer anti-Hofmeister bias anion selectivity in synthetic receptor design.

RESUMO

Chalcogen bonding (ChB) is rapidly rising to prominence in supramolecular chemistry as a powerful sigma (σ)-hole-based noncovalent interaction, especially for applications in the field of molecular recognition. Recent studies have demonstrated ChB donor strength and potency to be remarkably sensitive to local electronic environments, including redox-switchable on/off anion binding and sensing capability. Influencing the unique electronic and geometric environment sensitivity of ChB interactions through simultaneous cobound metal cation recognition, herein, we present the first potassium chloride-selective heteroditopic ion-pair receptor. The direct conjugation of benzo-15-crown-5 ether (B15C5) appendages to Te centers in a bis-tellurotriazole framework facilitates alkali metal halide (MX) ion-pair binding through the formation of a cofacial intramolecular bis-B15C5 M+ (M+ = K+, Rb+, Cs+) sandwich complex and bidentate ChB···X- formation. Extensive quantitative 1H NMR ion-pair affinity titration experiments, solid-liquid and liquid-liquid extraction, and U-tube transport studies all demonstrate unprecedented KCl selectivity over all other group 1 metal chlorides. It is demonstrated that the origin of the receptor's ion-pair binding cooperativity and KCl selectivity arises from an electronic polarization of the ChB donors induced by the cobound alkali metal cation. Importantly, the magnitude of this switch on Te-centered electrophilicity, and therefore anion-binding affinity, is shown to correlate with the inherent Lewis acidity of the alkali metal cation. Extensive computational DFT investigations corroborated the experimental alkali metal cation-anion ion-pair binding observations for halides and oxoanions.

RESUMO

In this study, the effects of 3 graded dietary levels (0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.4%) of naringin were studied in Three-Yellow breeder hens during the late laying period (55-62 wk). A total of 480 Three-Yellow breeder hens (54-wk-old) were randomly divided into 4 groups (6 replicates of 20 hens): basal diet group (C), and basal diets supplemented with 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.4% of naringin (N1, N2, and N3), respectively. Results showed that dietary supplementation with 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.4% of naringin for 8 wk increased the laying rate and egg mass, enhanced egg yolk color, and decreased the feed egg ratio (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, compared with hens in C group, there were more preovulatory follicles and higher ovarian index as well as an enhanced ovarian somatic cell proliferation in hens of N2 and N3 groups (P < 0.05). With 0.2% and 0.4% naringin, glutathione concentration, the activity of catalase and total superoxide dismutase, and the total antioxidant capacity of ovarian tissues and serum increased (P < 0.05), while the contents of malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide decreased (P < 0.05). Moreover, compared to C group, the transcription levels of antioxidant genes in ovarian tissues increased in hens from N2 and N3 groups (P < 0.05). In conclusion, supplementation with 0.2% and 0.4% naringin both could improve the laying rate, ovarian and serum antioxidant capacity of Three-Yellow breeder hens during the late laying period.

RESUMO

A family of novel halogen bonding (XB) and hydrogen bonding (HB) heteroditopic [2]rotaxane host systems constructed by active metal template (AMT) methodology, were studied for their ability to cooperatively recognise lithium halide (LiX) ion-pairs. 1 H NMR ion-pair titration experiments in CD3 CN:CDCl3 solvent mixtures revealed a notable "switch-on" of halide anion binding in the presence of a co-bound lithium cation, with rotaxane hosts demonstrating selectivity for LiBr over LiI. The strength of halide binding was shown to greatly increase with increasing number of halogen bond donors integrated into the interlocked cavity, where an all-XB rotaxane was found to be the most potent host for LiBr. DFT calculations corroborated these findings, determining the mode of LiX ion-pair binding. Notably, ion-pair binding was not observed with the corresponding XB/HB macrocycles alone, highlighting the cooperative, heteroditopic, rotaxane axle-macrocycle component mechanical bond effect as an efficient strategy for ion-pair recognition in general.

RESUMO

Background: Gastric polyps are one of the most common clinical diseases arising from the mucosal surface of the stomach. The benign nature of the gastric polyp and its absence of symptoms have been widely accepted. Diffuse benign inflammatory polyps spanning the entire gastric mucosa are relatively rare in young people. Case presentation: Our objective was to report a 20-year-old woman who presented with epigastric pain and vomiting; upper gastrointestinal barium contrast roentgenography demonstrated a huge defect in the filling of the stomach. Upper endoscopy also showed the presence of dense inflammatory polyps in the stomach that were the cause of the severe pylorus obstruction. The diffuse benign gastric polyps were diagnosed as inflammatory gastric polyps on the basis of findings on the histopathological examination. She was delivered as a result of the operating procedure of total gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y anastomosis of the esophagus and jejunum. Postoperative nutritional support therapy was also implemented. Postoperative pathological examination revealed inflammatory papillary and villous polyps distributed over the stomach, and eosinophilic infiltration was found in the local area of the polyp. Polyps move like tufts of coral. During the 16-month follow-up, patients with symptoms of malnutrition and anemia recovered. Conclusion: Nutritional support and a total gastrectomy were used to improve this patient's symptoms of malnutrition and anemia. Surgical intervention with appropriate nutritional support should be actively performed in these patients while strengthening the differential diagnosis of hereditary disease.
