RESUMO

The uneven distribution of microhardness in the two-phase structure of S32760 duplex stainless steel after cutting is attributed to variations in the crystal structure, which significantly impact the material's performance. This paper presents a new approach to predict the microhardness of two-phase based on the flow stresses in the austenitic and ferrite. The effect of strain, strain rate, and temperature on the flow stress in the shear plane of orthogonal cutting S32760 was analyzed, and the prediction model for microhardness of two-phase considering the two-phase flow stress was established to obtain a mapping relationship between the two-phase flow stress and the two-phase microhardness of S32760. The impact of cutting dosages on shear strain, strain rate, and temperature in the shear plane was investigated. A function relationship between cutting dosages and microhardness of austenite and ferrite in the shear plane was established, two-phase microhardness experiments were conducted, and the model's accuracy was validated with a prediction error of less than 6%. This study provided insights into the impact of strain, strain rate, and temperature in the shear plane on the microhardness of the two-phase, thus contributing to the theoretical foundation of processing techniques in duplex stainless steel.

The damping performance of unequal tooth milling cutters is controlled by the pitch parameters. How to improve the vibration damping and dynamic balance of milling cutters needs to be further studied. This paper analyzes the pitch angle through the stability of the lobe diagram and the spectral characteristics, and unequal-pitch end mills with asymmetric structure were determined to have better cutting stability. Due to the principle error of the asymmetrical tool, dynamic balance accuracy is poor. The dynamic balance of the tool is analyzed, and the centroid model of the tool is established. In order to improve the dynamic balance accuracy of tools, the parameters of the groove shape are analyzed and optimized, and balance accuracy is improved. Through modal and milling-force analysis, the relative vibration displacement and cutting force of the optimized tool were reduced by 17% and 10%, respectively, which determined that such tools have better dynamic performance. Here, unequal tooth end mills could reduce vibration and had higher accuracy in dynamic balance by adjusting the parameters of the pitch angles and chip pockets, so that the tool could have higher cutting stability.

Surface roughness parameters are an important factor affecting surface wear resistance, but the relevance between the wear resistance and the surface roughness parameters has not been well studied. This paper based on the finite element simulation technology, through the grey incidence analysis (GIA) method to quantitatively study the relevance between the wear amount of per unit sliding distance (ΔVs) and the surface texture roughness parameters under dry friction conditions of the different surface topography. A zeroth order six-variables grey model, GM(0,6), for prediction the wear characteristic parameter ΔVs was established, and the experiment results verified that the prediction model was accurate and reasonable.

In this study, we aimed to process the biomimetic function surface by designing a prototype for modeling the pits on a dung beetle body and the abdomen of a desert viper, and by using high speed milling and controlling the ratio of row spacing to feed rate. Firstly, we conducted three-dimensional parametric modeling and static analysis of the bionic functional surface using 3D modeling software UGNX (12.0, SIEMENS AG, Munich, Germany) and finite element analysis software ABAQUS (2018, Dassault, Providence, RI, USA). Then, the analysis results were imported into the fatigue life analysis software nCode (2018, HBM United Kingdom Ltd., South Yorkshire, UK) to simulate the fatigue characteristics of different bionic pit morphology models. Per the simulated tensile fatigue testing machine, the result shows that the minimum fatigue life value of the quadrilateral pit surface of the simulated dung beetle is one and four times higher than the hexagonal pit morphology and the irregular pit morphology, respectively, whereas the maximum fatigue damage is lower by one and five orders of magnitude, respectively. The quadrilateral pit surface on the biomimetic dung beetle body has better fatigue resistance, which can considerably improve the fatigue damage distribution state and the fatigue life of hardened steel die surfaces. The influential regulation of milling parameters on fatigue performance was studied and the results show that the fatigue resistance of the model is optimal when milling parameters are: row spacing of 0.4 mm, loading space of 0.2 mm, and milling depth of 0.3 mm. The quadrilateral dimensions formed by milling are highly similar to those of a dung beetle body proving that a certain reduction in milling process depth can increase the structural fatigue resistance. From the perspective of fatigue crack growth analysis, the quadrilateral dimples on the surface of the dung beetle improve fatigue crack growth inhibition and fatigue resistance.

When milling titanium alloy, the cutting temperature has a strong impact on the degree of tool wear and, in turn, tool life and the surface quality of the workpiece. The distribution of the temperature field on a tool's rake face can be improved through the use of micro-textures, which help to reduce friction and, ultimately, wear on the tool. In this paper we present a new way to measure cutting temperature and examine heat distribution when milling titanium alloy with micro-textured ball-end milling tools. We first establish the heat flux density function for the contact area between the workpiece and the tool and then for the rest of the tool. Thermal stress simulation shows that adhesive wear tends to happen in the contact area and on the flank face, rather than at the tip of the tool, with the temperature distribution gradient for the rest of the tool being more uniform. The maximum value for thermal stress on the cutting edge was 2.0782 × 106 Pa. This decrease as you move away from the cutting edge along the contact area between the tool and the workpiece. Maximum deformation of the tool is also mainly concentrated at the principal contact point, with a value of 1.9445 × 10-9 m. This, too, decreases as you move away from the cutting edge and into the rest of the contact area. This research provides the basis for the optimization of tool structure and further investigation of the thermo-mechanical coupling behavior of micro-textured ball-end milling cutters when milling titanium alloy.
