RESUMO

Purpose: This bibliometric study explores cerebral palsy (CP) research from 2003 to 2022 to reveal the topic hotspots and collaborations. Methods: We retrieved studies on CP from the Web of Science Core Collection from 2003 to 2022 and then used CiteSpace and Bibliometrix to perform a bibliometric analysis and attain knowledge mapping, including publication outputs, funding, journals, authors, institutions, countries/territories, keywords, collaborative relationships, and topic hotspots. Results: In total, 8,223 articles were published from 2003 to 2022. During this period, the number of publications increased continuously. Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology was the most productive and frequently co-cited journal. Boyd was the most productive and influential author, with 143 publications and 4,011 citations. The United States and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam were the most productive countries and institutions, respectively. Researchers and institutions from the USA, Australia, and Canada constituted the core research forces, with extensive collaborations worldwide. The most common keywords were gait (553), rehabilitation (440), spasticity (325), botulinum toxin (174), therapy (148), upper extremity (141), quality of life (140), disability (115), pain (98), electromyography (97), kinematics (90), balance (88), participation (85), and walking (79). Conclusion: This study provides a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the CP-related literature. It reveals that Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology is the most active journal in this field. The USA, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and Boyd are the top countries, institutions, and authors, respectively. Emerging treatment methods, complication management, and functional recovery comprise the future research directions and potential topic hotspots for CP.

This study presents a new method combining cold plasma-activated oxygen (CPAO) and microwave (MW) to decontaminate milkshake powder, exploring its effectiveness, mechanisms, and quality impact. CPAO (6 min) alone reduced bacterial load by 0.419 log CFU/g, and MW (3 min) by 0.030 log CFU/g. However, their co-application significantly amplified decontamination, achieving a 1.265 log CFU/g reduction. CPAO-MW co-treatment inflicted more oxidative damage on bacterial cell membranes and intracellular antioxidant defense system, leading to higher mortality. It also raised protein and lipid oxidation, while decreasing vitamin C and A levels in the powder. Specifically, CPAO (6 min)-MW (3 min) co-treatment increased the carbonyl content from 0.438 to 0.891 nmol/mg protein, malondialdehyde from 0.824 to 0.996 mg/kg, and lowered vitamin C from 162.151 to 137.640 mg/kg, and vitamin A from 2.05 to 1.38 mg/kg. This study shows CPAO-MW is effective for decontaminating powdered foods but highlights a need to reduce negative effects.

BACKGROUND: Dried shrimp is a high-value fishery product worldwide, but rapid and accurate assessment of its quality remains challenging. In the present study, a new method based on Raman spectroscopy was developed for assessing the quality changes in dried shrimp (Parapenaeopsis hardwickii) during storage. RESULTS: A high-quality Raman spectrum of astaxanthin (AST) was obtained from the third abdominal segment of dried shrimp. The intensity ratio (I1520/I1446) of the band from 1520 cm-1 to that at 1446 cm-1, which was ascribed to AST and protein/lipid, respectively, was calculated. I1520/I1446 can probe AST degradation in dried shrimp during storage at both 37 and 4 °C and further reflect quality changes of dried shrimp, as indicated by indices including total volatile basic nitrogen, pH and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances. CONCLUSION: Compared to conventional methods, the proposed method avoids complex and time-consuming preprocessing and provides significant advantages including cost-effectiveness and rapid detection. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

The emergence and rapid spread of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) raise a critical need for alternative therapeutic options. New antibacterial drugs and targets are required to combat MRSA-associated infections. Based on this study, celastrol, a natural product from the roots of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. f., effectively combats MRSA in vitro and in vivo. Multi-omics analysis suggests that the molecular mechanism of action of celastrol may be related to Δ1 -pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenase (P5CDH). By comparing the properties of wild-type and rocA-deficient MRSA strains, it is demonstrated that P5CDH, the second enzyme of the proline catabolism pathway, is a tentative new target for antibacterial agents. Using molecular docking, bio-layer interferometry, and enzyme activity assays, it is confirmed that celastrol can affect the function of P5CDH. Furthermore, it is found through site-directed protein mutagenesis that the Lys205 and Glu208 residues are key for celastrol binding to P5CDH. Finally, mechanistic studies show that celastrol induces oxidative stress and inhibits DNA synthesis by binding to P5CDH. The findings of this study indicate that celastrol is a promising lead compound and validate P5CDH as a potential target for the development of novel drugs against MRSA.

Due to the large amount of antibiotics used for human therapy, agriculture, and even aquaculture, the emergence of multidrug-resistant Streptococcus suis (S. suis) led to serious public health threats. Antibiotic-assisted strategies have emerged as a promising approach to alleviate this crisis. Here, the polyphenolic compound gallic acid was found to enhance sulfonamides against multidrug-resistant S. suis. Mechanistic analysis revealed that gallic acid effectively disrupts the integrity and function of the cytoplasmic membrane by dissipating the proton motive force of bacteria. Moreover, we found that gallic acid regulates the expression of dihydrofolate reductase, which in turn inhibits tetrahydrofolate synthesis. As a result of polypharmacology, gallic acid can fully restore sulfadiazine sodium activity in the animal infection model without any drug resistances. Our findings provide an insightful view into the threats of antibiotic resistance. It could become a promising strategy to resolve this crisis.

Purpose: With the increasingly fierce market competitions, non-linear development of organizations through bootlegging has become a key path for enterprises to advance competitiveness. Motivating employees to carry out bootlegging in an organization is becoming an important issue many enterprises face now. This paper aims to analyze the relationship between leader's positive humor and employee bootlegging. We introduced norm violation acceptability as the mediating variable and trust in leader as the moderating variable to propose a theoretical model and verified it by structural equation modeling (SEM) and multiple regression analysis separately. Patients and Methods: Based on both the emotion as social information theory and the social information processing theory, a sample of 278 professional employees working in an information technology (IT) enterprise of China was used to test the moderated mediation model. We used SPSS and AMOS to further verify the research model through structural equation modeling (SEM) and multiple regression analysis. Results: The results indicate that there is a positive relationship between leader's positive humor and employee bootlegging, which is partially mediated by norm violation acceptability. Moreover, trust in leader not only moderated the relationship between leader's positive humor and norm violation acceptability but also strengthened the influence of leader's positive humor on employee bootlegging through norm violation acceptability. Conclusion: These findings have implications in identifying factors which contribute to employee bootlegging and providing a theoretical foundation for leaders in an organization.

Millimeter wave (MMW) communication, noted for its merit of wide bandwidth and high-speed transmission, is also a competitive implementation of the Internet of Everything (IoE). In an always-connected world, mutual data transmission and localization are the primary issues, such as the application of MMW application in autonomous vehicles and intelligent robots. Recently, artificial intelligence technologies have been adopted for the issues in the MMW communication domain. In this paper, MLP-mmWP, a deep learning method, is proposed to localize the user with respect to MMW communication information. The proposed method employs seven sequences of beamformed fingerprints (BFFs) to estimate localization, which includes line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) transmissions. As far as we know, MLP-mmWP is the first method to apply the MLP-Mixer neural network to the task of MMW positioning. Moreover, experimental results in a public dataset demonstrate that MLP-mmWP outperforms the existing state-of-the-art methods. Specifically, in a simulation area of 400 × 400 m2, the positioning mean absolute error is 1.78 m, and the 95th percentile prediction error is 3.96 m, representing improvements of 11.8% and 8.2%, respectively.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development envisions a rational use of energy and resources in all technological processes. However, in the extraction methods of compounds from medicinal plants and herbs, there is an urgent to reduce the use of organic solvents and increase the energy efficiency of these methods. Therefore, a sustainable extraction method (enzyme and ultrasonic co-assisted aqueous two-phase extraction, EUA-ATPE) of simultaneous extraction and separation of ferulic acid and ligustilide from Angelicae Sinensis Radix (ASR) was developed by integrating enzyme-assisted extraction (EAE) with ultrasonic-assisted aqueous two-phase extraction (UAE- ATPE). The effects of different enzymes, extraction temperature, pH, ultrasonic time, liquid-to-materials ratio, etc., were optimized by single-factor experiments and central composite design (CCD). Under the optimum conditions, the highest comprehensive evaluation value (CEV) and extraction yield were obtained by EUA-ATPE. Furthermore, recovery (R), partition coefficient (K), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that enzyme and ultrasonic treatment improved mass transfer diffusion and increased the degree of cell disruption. Besides, the EUA-ATPE extracts have shown great antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity in vitro. Finally, compared to different extraction methods, EUA-ATPE achieved higher extraction efficiency and higher energy efficiency due to the synergistic effect between EAE and UAE-ATPE. Therefore, the EUA-ATPE provides a sustainable method for extracting bioactive compounds from medicinal plants and herbs, contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), including SDG-6, SDG-7, SDG-9, SDG-12, and SDG-15.

Shucking is an indispensable step in the preparation of cooked mussel products, as it facilitates the detachment of meat from the shell. In this study, we comprehensively investigated the effects of boiling, steaming, and microwaving on taste constituents in half-cooked mussel meat. Two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy revealed the key differential taste components of the different shucking groups. Structural equation modeling (SEM) indicated the positive effects of saltiness and bitterness on umami taste, while sweetness and sourness had negative effects on umami taste in half-cooked mussel meat. Furthermore, Glu, Asp, Ala, Arg, betaine, malic acid, succinic acid, glycogen, Cl-, Na+, K+, and PO3- 4 were quantitatively determined as the main taste compounds. The steaming shelling group had the most enriched taste components, with the highest equivalent umami concentration compared to the other shelling groups. Hence, steaming shucking may be favored due to abundant tastes and nutrients.

Biological barriers significantly limit the delivery efficiency of drug delivery systems, resulting in undesired therapeutic effects. When designing a delivery system with optimized penetration behavior across the biological barriers, mechanical properties, such as deformability, are emerging as important parameters that need to be considered, although they are usually neglected in current research. Herein, a liquid core nanoparticle (LCN) composed of a polymer-encapsulated edible oil droplet is demonstrated. Owing to the unique structure in which the liquid oil core is encapsulated by a layer of highly hydrophilic and cross-linked polymer, the LCN exhibits high mechanical softness, making it deformable under external forces. With high deformability, LCNs can effectively penetrate through several important biological barriers including deep tumor tissue, blood-brain barriers, mucus layers, and bacterial biofilms. Moreover, the potential of the LCN as a drug delivery system is also demonstrated by the loading and release of several clinical drugs. With the capability of penetrating biological barriers and delivering drugs, LCN provides a potential platform for disease treatments, particularly for those suffering from inadequate drug penetration.

Natural products and their unique polypharmacology offer significant advantages for finding novel therapeutics particularly for the treatment of complex diseases. Meanwhile, Traditional Chinese Medicine exerts overall clinical benefits through a multi-component and multi-target approach. In this study, we used the previously established co-infection model of Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Escherichia coli as a representative of complex diseases. A new combination consisting of 6 herbs were obtained by using network pharmacology combined with transcriptomic analysis to reverse screen TCMs from the Chinese medicine database, containing Isatdis Radix, Forsythia Fructus, Ginkgo Folium, Mori Cortex, Licorice, and Radix Salviae. The results of therapeutic trials showed that the Chinese herbal compounds screened by the target network played a good therapeutic effect in the case of co-infection. In summary, these data suggested a new method to validate target combinations of natural products that can be used to optimize their multiple structure-activity relationships to obtain drug-like natural product derivatives.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether auricular acupuncture has neuromodulatory effects on the motor cortex of healthy adults. Methods: Fourteen healthy subjects received a real auricular acupuncture stimulation (SF1) session and a sham acupuncture stimulation session. The interval between the two types of stimulation was more than 24 h. A finger dexterity test (taping score and taping speed by using ipad) was assessed, and motor-evoked potentials (MEP) were assessed before and after each stimulation. Results: Before the treatment, there were no significant differences in MEP amplitude, tapping score, or tapping speed (P > 0.05) between the real and sham stimulation conditions. After the treatment, the MEP amplitude, tapping score, and tapping speed in the real stimulation condition increased significantly compared to the pre-stimulation measurements and were significantly higher than those in the sham stimulation condition (P < 0.01). In the sham stimulation condition, the MEP amplitude, tapping score, and tapping speed decreased significantly compared to the pre-stimulation measurements (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture of auricular points can modulate the excitability of the motor cortex area of controlling the upper limbs. Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the activation and functional connectivity of the prefrontal and temporal lobe in young and elder people during the Stroop test using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Methods: A total of 33 healthy volunteers (20 young people, mean age: 23.7 ± 3.9 years; 13 elder people, mean age: 63.9 ± 4.0 years) participated in the study. All subjects were asked to finish the Stroop Color Word Test. The oxygenated hemoglobin concentration (Delta [HbO2]) signals and the deoxygenated hemoglobin (Delta [HbR]) signals were recorded from temporopolar area (TA), pars triangularis Broca's area (Broca), dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), and frontopolar area (FA) by fNIRS. The coherence between the left and right frontotemporal lobe delta [HbO2] oscillations in four frequency intervals (I, 0.6-2 Hz; II, 0.145-0.6 Hz; III, 0.052-0.145 Hz; and IV, 0.021-0.052 Hz) was analyzed using wavelet coherence analysis and wavelet phase coherent. Results: In the Stroop test, the young group was significantly better than the elder group at the responses time, whether at congruent tasks or at incongruent tasks (congruent: F = 250.295, p < 0.001; incongruent: p < 0.001). The accuracy of the two groups differed significantly when performing incongruent tasks but not when performing congruent tasks (incongruent: F = 9.498, p = 0.001; congruent: p = 0.254). Besides, only elders show significant activation in DLPFC, Broca, FA, and TA (p < 0.05) during the Stroop test, but young people did not show significant differences. In the functional connectivity of task states, younger people had stronger connections between different brain regions in both the left and right brain compared with the elderly (p < 0.05). In particular, the left and right DLPFC showed stronger connection strength in most of the brain areas. The result suggested that younger people had stronger functional connectivity of brain areas than older people when completing the task. Conclusion: According to these results, although the cortical activation in the elder people was higher than the young people, the young showed stronger connectivity in most of the brain areas than the elders. Both sides of DLPFC and right Broca area were the most significant cortical activation in Stroop test. It was suggested that the decrease in functional connectivity in the elder people resulted in the atrophy of white matter, to which we should pay more attention.

Background: Upper limb impairments are one of the most common health problems of stroke, affecting both motor function and independence in daily life. It has been demonstrated that intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) increases brain excitability and improves upper limb function. Our study sought to determine the role of iTBS in stroke recovery. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of iTBS in individuals with upper limb impairments following stroke. Methods: The databases used included Cumulative Index to PubMed, EMBASE, ESCBOhost, The Cochrane Library, Chinese Biomedical Database, Web of Science, China Biology Medicine (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Technology Periodical Database (VIP), and WanFang Database. Studies published before November 2021 were included. Each participant received an iTBS-based intervention aimed at improving activity levels or impairment, which was compared to usual care, a sham intervention, or another intervention. The primary outcome measure was a change in upper limb function assessment. Secondary outcomes included impairment, participation, and quality of life measures. Result: A total of 18 studies (n = 401 participants) that met the inclusion criteria were included in this study. There was a slight change in the upper limb function of the iTBS group compared with the control group, as measured by the Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) score (mean difference 2.70, 95% CI -0.02 to 5.42, p = 0.05). Significant improvement in resting motor threshold (RMT) and motor-evoked potential (MEP) was also observed in the meta-analysis of iTBS (MD 3.46, 95% CI 2.63 to 4.28, p < 0.00001); (MD 1.34, 95% CI 1.17 to 1.51, P < 0.00001). In addition, we got similar results when the studies were using the Modified Barthel Index (MBI) assessment (mean difference of 7.34, 95% CI 0.47 to 14.21, p = 0.04). Conclusion: Our study established the efficacy of iTBS in improving motor cortical plasticity, motor function, and daily functioning in stroke patients. Rationale: In combination chemotherapy, the molar ratio of drugs is a critical parameter that determines the synergistic effects. However, most co-delivery vectors are incapable of maintaining the optimal molar ratio of drugs throughout the delivery process. Herein, a calixarene-modified albumin (CaMA), which can co-deliver multiple drugs with precise control of the drug ratio, is presented. Methods: CaMA was prepared by chemically conjugating multiple sulfonate azocalix[4]arenes (SAC4A) onto the surface of bovine serum albumin (BSA). The precise drug loading and synchronous drug release were measured using fluorescence spectroscopy. Mouse tumor cell 4T1 and 4T1-bearing mice were used to evaluate the combined effects of mitomycin C (MMC) and doxorubicin (DOX) in vitro and in vivo. Results: With multiple hypoxia-responsive calixarenes conjugated onto a single albumin molecule, CaMA achieved precise drug loading and synchronous release of multiple drugs into the tumor microenvironment. This unique drug loading and release mechanism ensures that CaMA maintains the drug ratio from the initial drug loading to the release site, providing a solid foundation for multi-drug combination therapy with the goal of achieving predictable therapeutic outcomes in vivo. The delivery of the model drug combination MMC and DOX at a prescreened ratio via CaMA achieved significantly enhanced tumor suppression and reduced systemic toxicity. Conclusions: This stoichiometric delivery feature makes CaMA a powerful tool for the development of combination chemotherapy and personalized medications for cancer treatment.

Efficient delivery of biomacromolecules or drugs across the cell membrane via endocytosis usually encounters inevitable entrapment in endosomes and subsequent degradation in lyso-endosomes. To address this issue, a series of arginine-rich cell penetrating polymers is designed and synthesized, which internalize into cells by inducing the formation of pores on the cell membrane, thereby crossing the cell membrane via direct translocation that fundamentally avoids endo/lysosomal entrapment. The structure-activity relationship studies show that PTn-R2-C6, which is a type of polymer that has two arginine residues and a flexible hexanoic acid linker in each side chain, exhibits excellent pore-formation ability on the cell membrane. Further investigations indicate that PTn-R2-C6 rapidly transports plasmid DNAs into cytosol through a similar endocytosis-independent pathway, thereby achieving significantly higher transfection efficiency and lower cytotoxicity than the gold-standard transfection reagent PEI 25K. These results suggest the great potential of PTn-R2-C6 as a safe and efficient gene transfection reagent for wide applications including disease treatments, vaccine development, and biomedical research purposes.

Several studies have shown the positive clinical effect of brain computer interface (BCI) training for stroke rehabilitation. This study investigated the efficacy of the sensorimotor rhythm (SMR)-based BCI with audio-cue, motor observation and multisensory feedback for post-stroke rehabilitation. Furthermore, we discussed the interaction between training intensity and training duration in BCI training. Twenty-four stroke patients with severe upper limb (UL) motor deficits were randomly assigned to two groups: 2-week SMR-BCI training combined with conventional treatment (BCI Group, BG, n = 12) and 2-week conventional treatment without SMR-BCI intervention (Control Group, CG, n = 12). Motor function was measured using clinical measurement scales, including Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremities (FMA-UE; primary outcome measure), Wolf Motor Functional Test (WMFT), and Modified Barthel Index (MBI), at baseline (Week 0), post-intervention (Week 2), and follow-up week (Week 4). EEG data from patients allocated to the BG was recorded at Week 0 and Week 2 and quantified by mu suppression means event-related desynchronization (ERD) in mu rhythm (8-12 Hz). All functional assessment scores (FMA-UE, WMFT, and MBI) significantly improved at Week 2 for both groups (p < 0.05). The BG had significantly higher FMA-UE and WMFT improvement at Week 4 compared to the CG. The mu suppression of bilateral hemisphere both had a positive trend with the motor function scores at Week 2. This study proposes a new effective SMR-BCI system and demonstrates that the SMR-BCI training with audio-cue, motor observation and multisensory feedback, together with conventional therapy may promote long-lasting UL motor improvement. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) hold great potential for use in tumor treatment. However, developing AMP-based antitumor therapies is challenging due to circulatory instability, hemolytic toxicity, low selectivity, and poor cell permeability of AMPs. In this study, a polymeric carrier for AMPs (denoted as PAMPm -co-PPBEn /PCA) is presented that effectively enhances their anticancer efficacy while minimizing their potential side effects. By integrating multiple responsive structures at the molecular level, the carrier finely controls the spatial distribution of AMPs in different biological microenvironments, thereby effectively modulating their membranolytic ability. Upon employing KLA as the model AMP, the polymeric carrier's hemolytic toxicity during blood circulation is suppressed, its cellular internalization when reaching tumor tissues facilitated, and its membranolytic toxicity toward the mitochondria upon entering cancer cells restored and further enhanced. Animal studies indicate that this approach significantly improves the antitumor efficacy of KLA and reduces its toxicity. Considering that the loading method for most AMPs is identical to that of KLA, the polymeric carrier reported in this study may provide a feasible approach for the development of AMP-based cancer treatments.

Vigorous development of electric vehicles is one way to achieve global carbon reduction goals. However, fires caused by thermal runaway of the power battery has seriously hindered large-scale development. Adding thermal runaway retardants (TRRs) to electrolytes is an effective way to improve battery safety, but it often reduces electrochemical performance. Therefore, it is difficult to apply in practice. TRR encapsulation is inspired by the core-shell structures such as cells, seeds, eggs, and fruits in nature. In these natural products, the shell isolates the core from the outside, and has to break as needed to expose the core, such as in seed germination, chicken hatching, etc. Similarly, TRR encapsulation avoids direct contact between the TRR and the electrolyte, so it does not affect the electrochemical performance of the battery during normal operation. When lithium-ion battery (LIB) thermal runaway occurs, the capsules release TRRs to slow down and even prevent further thermal runaway. This review aims to summarize the fundamentals of bioinspired TRR capsules and highlight recent key progress in LIBs with TRR capsules to improve LIB safety. It is anticipated that this review will inspire further improvement in battery safety, especially for emerging LIBs with high-electrochemical performance.

Mixed halide perovskites are promising memristive materials because of their excellent electronic-ionic properties. In this work, lead-free Cs2 AgBiBr6-x Clx (x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0) double perovskite films were fabricated using a one-step solution spin-coating method in air. Moreover, the ITO/Cs2 AgBiBr6-x Clx /Al sandwich-like devices are fabricated to investigate the memristive behaviors. The present memristors exhibit nonvolatile and bipolar resistive switching behaviors without electroforming process. Interestingly, as the chloride content increases, the ON/OFF ratio of the device increases from 103 to 104 , the average SET voltage and the RESET voltage decrease from -0.40 V to -0.21 V and from 1.55 V to 1.34 V, respectively. In addition, resistance states of devices can be maintained after 100 switching cycles and 104  s of reading. This study provides new possibility for the development of low-power and environmentally friendly memristors.
