RESUMO

With the continuous development of science and technology, battery storage systems for clean energy have become crucial for global economic transformation. Among various rechargeable batteries, lithium-ion batteries are widely used, but face issues like limited resources, high costs, and safety concerns. In contrast, zinc-ion batteries, as a complement to lithium-ion batteries, are drawing increasing attention. In the exploration of zinc-ion batteries, especially of phosphate-based cathodes, the battery action mechanism has a profound impact on the battery performance. In this paper, we first review the interaction mechanism of multi-ion, dual-ion, and single-ion water zinc batteries. Then, the impact of the above mechanisms on battery performance was discussed. Finally, the application prospects of the effective use of multi-ion, dual-ion, and single-ion intercalation technology in zinc-ion batteries is reviewed, which has significance for guiding the development of rechargeable water zinc-ion batteries in the future.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of acupuncture at stellate ganglion on orthostatic hypotension (OH) in Parkinson's disease (PD), and explore its action mechanism. METHODS: A total of 68 patients with OH in PD were randomly divided into a combination group (34 cases, 2 cases dropped out, 1 case was eliminated) and a western medication group (34 cases, 1 case was eliminated). Both groups received stable dose anti-PD western medication, the western medication group received oral midodrine hydrochloride tablets, 2.5 mg each time, 2 times a day. The combination group was treated with acupuncture at bilateral stellate ganglion on the basis of the western medication group, without retaining needles, once a day, 5 times a week. Both groups were treated for 2 weeks. Supine and orthostatic blood pressure, orthostatic hypotension questionnaire (OHQ) score, TCM syndrome score, unified Parkinson's disease rating scale (UPDRS) score before and after treatment in the two groups were observed, the level of serum norepinephrine (NE) was detected, and the clinical effect was evaluated. RESULTS: After treatment, orthostatic systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in the combination group were increased compared with those before treatment (P<0.01), OHQ score, TCM syndrome score, UPDRS score were decreased compared with those before treatment (P<0.01); supine SBP in the western medication group was increased compared with that before treatment (P<0.05), OHQ score was decreased compared with that before treatment (P<0.05); the levels of serum NE in both groups were increased compared with those before treatment (P<0.01). After treatment, orthostatic SBP, orthostatic DBP and the level of serum NE in the combination group were higher than those in the western medication group (P<0.01, P<0.05), the OHQ score, TCM syndrome score, UPDRS score were lower than those in the western medication group (P<0.05, P<0.01). The total effective rate was 87.1% (27/31) in the combination group, which was higher than 63.6% (21/32) in the western medication group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture at stellate ganglion can increase the orthostatic blood pressure in patients with OH in PD , improve clinical symptoms, and the mechanism may be related to the up-regulation of NE.

RESUMO

Bursaphelenchus xylophilus is a dangerous quarantine pest that causes extensive damage to pine ecosystems worldwide. Cyclobutrifluram, a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI), is a novel nematicide introduced by Syngenta in 2013. However, the nematocidal effect of cyclobutrifluram against plant-parasitic nematodes remains underexplored. Therefore, here, we aim to address this knowledge gap by evaluating the toxicity, effects, and mode of action of cyclobutrifluram on B. xylophilus. The result shows that cyclobutrifluram is the most effective agent, with an LC50 value of 0.1078 mg·L-1. At an LC20 dose, it significantly reduced the population size to 10.40 × 103 ± 737.56-approximately 1/23 that of the control group. This notable impact may stem from the agent's ability to diminish egg-laying and hatching rates, as well as to impede the nematodes' development. In addition, it has also performed well in the prevention of pine wilt disease, significantly reducing the incidence in greenhouses and in the field. SDH consists of a transmembrane assembly composed of four protein subunits (SDHA to SDHD). Four sdh genes were characterized and proved by RNAi to regulate the spawning capacity, locomotion ability, and body size of B. xylophilus. The mortality of nematodes treated with sdhc-dsRNA significantly decreased upon cyclobutrifluram application. Molecular docking further confirmed that SDHC, a cytochrome-binding protein, is the target. In conclusion, cyclobutrifluram has a good potential for trunk injection against B. xylophilus. This study provides valuable information for the screening and application of effective agents in controlling and preventing PWD in forests.

RESUMO

Under the background of the continuous rise of CO2 annual emissions, the development of CO2 capture and utilization technology is urgent. This study focuses on improving the catalytic capacity of the catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation, improving the efficiency of CO2 conversion to methanol, and converting H2 into chemical substances to avoid the danger of H2 storage. Based on the concept of element sharing, the ASMZ (Aluminum Shares Metal Zeolite catalysts) series catalyst was prepared by combining the CuO-ZnO-Al2O3 catalyst with the ZSM-5 zeolite using the amphoteric metal properties of the Al element. The basic structural properties of ASMZ catalysts were compared by XRD, FTIR, and BET characterization. Catalytic properties of samples were measured on a micro fixed-bed reactor. The catalytic mechanism of the catalyst was further analyzed by SEM, TEM, XPS, H2-TPR, and NH3-TPD. The results show that the ASMZ3 catalyst had the highest CO2 conversion rate (26.4%), the highest methanol selectivity (76.0%), and the lowest CO selectivity (15.3%) in this study. This is mainly due to the fact that the preparation method in this study promotes the exposure of effective weakly acidic sites and medium strength acidic sites (facilitating the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol). At the same time, the close binding of Cu-ZnO-Al2O3 (CZA) and ZSM-5 zeolite also ensures the timely transfer of catalytic products and ensures the timely play of various catalytic active centers. The preparation method of the catalyst in this study also provides ideas for the preparation of other catalysts.

RESUMO

This study aimed to develop a novel Gelatin silver oxide material for releasing nitric oxide bionanocomposite wound dressing with enhanced mechanical, chemical, and antibacterial properties for the treatment of diabetic wounds. The gelatin- silver oxide nanoparticles (Ag2O-NP) bio nanocomposite was prepared using chitosan and gelatin polymers incorporated with silver oxide nanoparticles through the freeze-drying method. The samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Results showed that the Ag2O-NP nanoparticles increased porosity, decreased pore size, and improved elastic modulus. The Ag2O-NP wound dressing exhibited the most effective antibacterial properties against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Among the samples, the wound dressing containing silver oxide nanoparticles demonstrated superior physical and mechanical properties, with 48% porosity, a tensile strength of 3.2 MPa, and an elastic modulus of 51.7 MPa. The fabricated wound dressings had a volume ratio of empty space to total volume ranging from 40% to 60%. In parallel, considering the complications of diabetes and its impact on the vascular system, another aspect of the research focused on developing a per2mediated wound dressing capable of releasing nitric oxide gas to regenerate damaged vessels and accelerate diabetic wound healing. Chitosan, a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer, was selected as the substrate for the wound dressing, and beta-glycerophosphate (GPß), tripolyphosphate (TPP), and per2mediated alginate (AL) were used as crosslinkers. The chitosan-alginate (CS-AL) wound dressing exhibited optimal characteristics in terms of hole count and uniformity in the scanning electron microscope test. It also demonstrated superior water absorption (3854%) and minimal air permeability. Furthermore, the CS-AL sample exhibited an 80% degradation rate after 14 days, indicating its suitability as a wound dressing. The wound dressing was loaded with S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) powder, and the successful release of nitric oxide gas was confirmed through the grease test, showing a peak at a wavelength of 540 nm. Subsequent investigations revealed that the treatment of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with high glucose led to a decrease in the expression of PER2 and SIRT1, while the expression of PER2 increased, which may subsequently enhance the expression of SIRT1 and promote cell proliferation activity. However, upon treatment of the cells with the modified materials, an increase in the expression of PER2 and SIRT1 was observed, resulting in a partial restoration of cell proliferative activity. This comprehensive study successfully developed per2-mediated bio-nanocomposite wound dressings with improved physical, mechanical, chemical, and antibacterial properties. The incorporation of silver oxide nanoparticles enhanced the antimicrobial activity, while the released nitric oxide gas from the dressing demonstrated the ability to mitigate vascular endothelial cell damage induced by high glucose levels. These advancements show promising potential for facilitating the healing process of diabetic wounds by addressing complications associated with diabetes and enhancing overall wound healing.

RESUMO

Luster is one of the vital indexes in pearl grading. To find a fast, nondestructive, and low-cost grading method, optical coherence tomography (OCT) is introduced to predict the luster grade through the texture features. After background removal, flattening, and segmentation, the speckle pattern of the region of interest is described by seven kinds of feature textures, including center-symmetric auto-correlation (CSAC), fractal dimension (FD), Gabor, gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM), histogram of oriented gradients (HOG), laws texture energy (LAWS), and local binary patterns (LBP). To find the relations between speckle-derived texture features and luster grades, four Four groups of pearl samples were used in the experiment to detect texture differences based on support vector machines (SVMs) and random forest classifier (RFC)) for investigating the relations between speckle-derived texture features and luster grades. The precision, recall, F1-score, and accuracy are more significant than 0.9 in several simulations, even after dimension reduction. This demonstrates that the texture feature from OCT images can be applied to class the pearl luster based on speckle changes.

RESUMO

Allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) has confirmed its efficacy in improving the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. However, no reliable biomarkers have been identified to predict the efficacy of AIT were found. We aimed to find clinical and immunological markers to predict efficacy in children after 2 years of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT). A total of 285 children diagnosed with allergic rhinitis were recruited. The clinical efficacy was evaluated by comparing endpoint and baseline symptom and medication scores (SMS). Baseline clinical and immunological markers (serum total and specific immunoglobulin [Ig]E) and their correlation with clinical efficacy were analyzed. Of the 285 children recruited, 249 completed the 2-year SLIT program. After 2 years of SLIT, 68.3% of the children showed a significant response. Children in the Remarkable Response Group had the highest baseline SMS and most extended disease duration, followed by the Effective Relief and Unresponsive Group. Correlation analysis demonstrated that SMS improvement was positively correlated with baseline SMS (r=0.67) and disease duration (r=0.35). SMS improvement was not correlated with age, body mass index, total or specific IgE levels, or their ratios. Our results show that baseline SMS and disease duration can predict the efficacy of SLIT. Our study can guide the selection of suitable candidates for SLIT.

RESUMO

Saltmarsh is widely recognized as a blue carbon ecosystem with great carbon storage potential. Yet soil respiration with a major contributor of atmospheric CO2 can offset its carbon sink function. Up to date, mechanisms ruling CO2 emissions from saltmarsh soil remain unclear. In particular, the effect of precipitation on soil CO2 emissions is unclear in coastal wetlands, due the lack of outdoor data in real situations. We conducted a 7-year field manipulation experiment in a saltmarsh in the Yellow River Delta, China. Soil respiration in five treatments (-60%, -40%, +0%, +40%, and + 60% of precipitation) was measured in the field. Topsoils from the last 3 years (2019-2021) were analyzed for CO2 production potential by microcosm experiments. Furthermore, quality and quantity of soil organic carbon and microbial function were tested. Results show that only the moderate precipitation rise of +40% induced a 66.2% increase of CO2 production potential for the microcosm experiments, whereas other data showed a weak impact. Consistently, soil respiration was also found to be strongest at +40%. The CO2 production potential is positively correlated with soil organic carbon, including carbon quantity and quality. But microbial diversity did not show any positive response to precipitation sizes. r-/K-strategy seemed to be a plausible explanation for biological factors. Overall, our finding reveal that a moderate precipitation increase, not decrease or a robust increase, in a saltmarsh is likely to improve soil organic carbon quality and quantity, and bacterial oligotroph:copiotroph ratio, ultimately leading to an enhanced CO2 production.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Tonsillotomy (TT) is a new and popular method with partial resection of the tonsils. Dexamethasone is often used during surgery for its anti-inflammatory, antiemetic, and analgesic properties. In this study, we aimed to explore the effect of systemic steroids use on postoperative vomiting, pain, and bleeding in TT. DESIGN: A randomized controlled trial. METHODS: We enrolled 240 children aged 2 to 18 years who had undergone TT or adenotonsillotomy at our center from July 2020 to July 2021. Dexamethasone or 0.9% normal saline was administered before the start of surgery. Postoperative hemorrhage, vomiting, and nausea were recorded and compared between groups. FINDINGS: The dexamethasone group had a 2.5% (3/119) rate of postoperative bleeding, while the rate was 1.6% (2/119) in the control group. No patients required multiple operations for control of bleeding. The degree of postoperative pain (2.1 ± 0.5 vs 3.4 ± 0.9) and the occurrence of postoperative nausea (21% vs 31.9%), as well as vomiting (15% vs 24.4%) in the dexamethasone group, was significantly lower compared with the placebo group. CONCLUSIONS: The rate of postoperative bleeding between the dexamethasone group and the control group had no significant difference, suggesting the high safety of dexamethasone use in TT. Dexamethasone use in TT improved postoperative pain, nausea, and vomiting significantly.

RESUMO

The pine-wood invasive species nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus causes great forestry damage globally, particularly in Eurasia. B. xylophilus can hybridize with its native sibling, Bursaphelenchus mucronatus, with whom it shares an interestingly asymmetric mating behavior. However, the molecular mechanism underlying interspecific asymmetric mating has yet to be clarified. ntr-1, a nematocin receptor gene, is involved in an oxytocin/vasopressin-like signaling system that can regulate reproduction. Structural analysis using bioinformatics revealed that both Bxy- and Bmu-ntr-1 encode 7TM-GPCR, a conserved sequence. In situ hybridization and qPCR showed that both Bxy- and Bmu-ntr-1 were highly expressed in adult nematodes. Specifically, Bxy-ntr-1 was expressed in the vulva of females and caudal gonad of males, whereas Bmu-ntr-1 was expressed in the postal vulva and uterus of females and the whole gonads of males. Furthermore, RNAi of ntr-1 further demonstrated the biological function of interspecific mating: ntr-1 can regulate mating behavior, lead to male-female specificity, and ultimately result in interspecific differences. In B. mucronatus, ntr-1 influenced male mating more than female mating success, while downregulation of ntr-1 in B. xylophilus resulted in a significant decline in the female mating rate. Competitive tests revealed that the mating rate of the cross significantly declined after downregulation of Bxy♀- and Bmu♂-ntr-1, but no obvious change occurred in the reciprocal cross. Thus, we speculate that ntr-1 may be the key factor behind interspecific asymmetric mating. The current study (1) demonstrated the regulatory function of ntr-1 on mating behavior and (2) theoretically revealed the molecular basis of interspecific asymmetric mating.

RESUMO

Although most esophagus subepithelial tumors are benign, the possibility of malignancy cannot be completely ruled out and it can gradually increase, leading to symptoms such as dysphagia, so removal is still recommended. The narrow cavity and thin walls of the upper esophagus, as well as movement caused by breathing and heartbeat, makes it difficult to perform operation by endoscopy or surgery. Cold snare pulpectomy may been used to remove subepithelial tumors of the upper third of the esophagus due to a low risk of adverse events and short procedure time.

RESUMO

Plant parasitic nematodes are important phytopathogens that greatly affect the growth of agricultural and forestry plants. Scientists have conducted several studies to prevent and treat the diseases they cause. With the advent of the genomics era, the genome sequencing of plant parasitic nematodes has been considerably accelerated, and a large amount of data has been generated. This study developed the Plant Parasitic Nematodes Database (PPND), a platform to combine these data. The PPND contains genomic, transcriptomic, protein, and functional annotation data, allowing users to conduct BLAST searches and genome browser analyses and download bioinformatics data for in-depth research. PPND will be continuously updated, and new data will be integrated. PPND is anticipated to become a comprehensive genomics data platform for plant parasitic nematode research.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: Gastrointestinal hemolymphangiomas are very rare, especially in the rectum. Only 3 cases of rectal hemolymphangioma, all of which are diffuse lesions, have been reported in the English literature on PubMed. Our case is the first focal lesion of the rectum. It is important for radiologists to correctly identify the imaging features of rectal hemolymphangiomas. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 51-year-old woman visited our hospital because of intermittent constipation for 3 years. DIAGNOSES: Colonoscopy revealed a prominent lesion on the left anterior wall of the lower rectum. Transvaginal color Doppler ultrasonography showed that the posterior vaginal wall area had a mixed-echo mass, and blood flow signals of the dots and stripes could be seen. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed that the cystic space-occupying lesion in the region between the left anterior wall of the lower rectum and the posterior wall of the middle and lower vagina had a clear boundary. INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent surgery to remove the rectal lesions. The surgical specimen was finally diagnosed as local hemolymphangioma by pathological analysis. LESSONS: Localized hemolymphangioma of the rectum is very rare, and imaging examination is essential for the diagnosis and evaluation of the extent of lesion invasion.

RESUMO

With the development of social economy, using lithium-ion batteries in energy storage in industries such as large-scale electrochemical energy storage systems will cause lithium resources to no longer meet demand. As such, sodium ion batteries have become one of the effective alternatives to LIBs. Many attempts have been carried out by researchers to achieve this, among which F-doping is widely used to enhance the electrochemical performance of SIBs. In this paper, we reviewed several types of transition metal oxide cathode materials, and found their electrochemical properties were significantly improved by F-doping. Moreover, the modification mechanism of F-doping has also been summed up. Therefore, the application and commercialization of SIBs in the future is summarized in the ending of the review.

RESUMO

The gene localization technique of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (pinewood nematode, PWN) is used for study gene expression in PWNs. Two in situ hybridization methods, namely, whole-mount in situ hybridization and the cut-off method are used widely. To compare the effects of these two in situ hybridization methods, the present study investigated the patterns of two functional genes expression in PWNs. The Bx-vap-2 gene (GenBank accession number: OR228482), related to pathogenicity, and the fem-2 gene (GenBank accession number: OR228481), related to sex determination, were selected to map related genes in the whole-mount and amputated PWNs at different ages using these in situ hybridization methods. Based on the overall statistical comparison, we found that compared to the cut-off method, the whole-mount method exhibited higher staining rates and correct staining rates for the fem-2 gene and Bx-vap-2 gene. However, considering the correct staining aspect, the cut-off method yielded better staining effects on pinewood nematode sections than the whole-mount method, with clearer hybridization signal locations and less non-specific staining. In other words, the cut-off method demonstrated more precise gene localization. Both methods are applicable for gene localization, but considering the overall staining pattern, analysis of experimental results, and comprehensive experimental operations, we believe that the whole-mount method is more suitable for gene localization and expression analysis of development-related genes in pinewood nematodes. This is because intact pinewood nematodes are better suited for showcasing the continuous developmental process of development-related genes. On the other hand, considering the experimental time, accuracy of staining site, and the amount of non-specific staining, the cut-off method is more suitable for disease-related genes. Additionally, to achieve better performance, the cut-off method can be selectively applied to samples during the experimental process.

RESUMO

A 21-year-old patient with Crohn's disease, who was undergoing Infliximab treatment, presented at the hospital due to a painful oral mass. After confirming the absence of malignant cells through frozen sections, a complete excision of the infiltrated bone surrounding the lesion was performed. The postoperative pathology confirmed the presence of Central type giant cell granuloma in the mandible, which is distinct from non-caseating granulomas in oral CD and Infliximab-induced Sarcoidosis. As far as we are aware, this is the first to report an association between CGCG and both CD and anti-tumor necrosis factor therapy treatment.

RESUMO

A 42-year-old male patient experienced hemorrhagic shock after endotracheal intubation. Emergency gastroscopy showed no upper gastrointestinal bleeding, but active tracheal bleeding. After sedation, the tracheal bleeding was successfully stopped with gastroscopy. Post-intubation airway bleeding is a rare but fatal adverse event, and finding the exact bleeding site and quickly stopping the bleeding is the key to successful treatment.

RESUMO

The emergence of a highly contagious novel coronavirus in 2019 led to an unprecedented need for large scale diagnostic testing. The associated challenges including reagent shortages, cost, deployment delays, and turnaround time have all highlighted the need for an alternative suite of low-cost tests. Here, we demonstrate a diagnostic test for SARS-CoV-2 RNA that provides direct detection of viral RNA and eliminates the need for costly enzymes. We employ DNA nanoswitches that respond to segments of the viral RNA by a change in shape that is readable by gel electrophoresis. A new multi-targeting approach samples 120 different viral regions to improve the limit of detection and provide robust detection of viral variants. We apply our approach to a cohort of clinical samples, positively identifying a subset of samples with high viral loads. Since our method directly detects multiple regions of viral RNA without amplification, it eliminates the risk of amplicon contamination and renders the method less susceptible to false positives. This new tool can benefit the COVID-19 pandemic and future emerging outbreaks, providing a third option between amplification-based RNA detection and protein antigen detection. Ultimately, we believe this tool can be adapted both for low-resource onsite testing as well as for monitoring viral loads in recovering patients.

RESUMO

DNA has shown great biocompatibility, programmable mechanical properties, and structural addressability at the nanometer scale, making it a versatile material for building high precision nanorobotics for biomedical applications. Herein, we present design principle, synthesis, and characterization of a DNA nanorobotic hand, called the "NanoGripper", that contains a palm and four bendable fingers as inspired by human hands, bird claws, and bacteriophages evolved in nature. Each NanoGripper finger has three phalanges connected by two flexible and rotatable joints that are bendable in response to binding to other entities. Functions of the NanoGripper have been enabled and driven by the interactions between moieties attached to the fingers and their binding partners. We showcase that the NanoGripper can be engineered to interact with and capture various objects with different dimensions, including gold nanoparticles, gold NanoUrchins, and SARS-CoV-2 virions. When carrying multiple DNA aptamer nanoswitches programmed to generate fluorescent signal enhanced on a photonic crystal platform, the NanoGripper functions as a sensitive viral biosensor that detects intact SARS-CoV-2 virions in human saliva with a limit of detection of ~ 100 copies/mL, providing RT-PCR equivalent sensitivity. Additionally, we use confocal microscopy to visualize how the NanoGripper-aptamer complex can effectively block viral entry into the host cells, indicating the viral inhibition. In summary, we report the design, synthesis, and characterization of a complex nanomachine that can be readily tailored for specific applications. The study highlights a path toward novel, feasible, and efficient solutions for the diagnosis and therapy of other diseases such as HIV and influenza.
