Background: Malnutrition is common in patients undergoing surgery for cancers and is a risk factor for postoperative outcomes. Body composition provides information for precise nutrition intervention in perioperative period for improving patients' postoperative outcomes. Objection: The aim was to determine changes in parameters of body composition and nutritional status of cancer patients during perioperative period. Methods: A total of 92 patients diagnosed with cancer were divided into gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal cancer group according to different cancer types. The patients body composition assessed by bioelectrical impedance vector analysis (BIVA) on the day before surgery, postoperative day 1 and 1 day before discharge. The changes between two groups were compared and the correlation between body composition and preoperative serum nutritional indexes was analyzed. Results: The nutritional status of all patients become worse after surgery, and phase angle (PA) continued to decrease in the perioperative period. Fat-free mass (FFM), fat-free mass index (FFMI), skeletal muscle mass (SMM), extracellular water (ECW), total body water (TBW), hydration, and body cell mass (BCM) rise slightly and then fall in the postoperative period in patients with gastrointestinal cancer, and had a sustained increase in non-gastrointestinal patients, respectively (P<0.05). Postoperative body composition changes in patients with gastrointestinal cancer are related to preoperative albumin, pre-albumin, hemoglobin, and C-reactive protein (P<0.05), whereas postoperative body composition changes in patients with non-gastrointestinal cancer are related to age (P<0.05). Conclusions: Significant changes in body composition both in patients with gastrointestinal cancer and non-gastrointestinal cancer during perioperative period are observed. Changes in body composition for the cancer patients who undergoing surgery are related to age and preoperative serum nutrition index.

Air transportation systems are a foundational infrastructure for the human's society. The lack of systematic and detailed investigation on a large amount of records for air flights has blocked seriously the deep understanding of the systems. By using the American domestic passenger flight records from 1995 to 2020, we constructed the air transportation networks and calculated the betweenness and the eigenvector centralities for the airports. It is found that in terms of eigenvector centrality, 15-30% airports in the unweighted and undirected networks behave anomalous. The anomalies disappear after considering the information of link weights or directionalites. Five widely used models for air transportation networks are evaluated, results for which tell us that the spatial constraints are required to eliminate the anomalies detected by the eigenvector centrality, and provide us some references for selecting the parameters in the models. We hope the empirical benchmarks reported in this paper can stimulate much more works on theoretical models for air transportation systems.

AIM: To investigate the characteristics of workplace violence at primary hospitals in Southeast China and identify associated risk factors. DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey design was used for this work. METHODS: We distributed a workplace violence questionnaire among medical staff at primary hospitals in Southeast Zhejiang Province, China. The data were collected between December 2016 and December 2017. We analysed the categorical data by using the chi-square test and expressed it as frequencies. The risk factors were analysed by using multiple logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Among the 2,560 questionnaires, 1,842 (71.9%) medical staff indicated that they had experienced workplace violence. Verbal assault was the most common type, followed by physical and sexual assault. Furthermore, gender, age, marital status, education, technical position and number of hospital beds' numbers were independent risk factors.

BACKGROUND: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) has gained increased attention in the past decade but remains difficult to treat. It is a predictor of patients' overall health and quality of life (QoL). Therefore, controlling fatigue is important for patients with cancer. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to test the effect of solution-focused therapy (SFT) in reducing CRF and improving QoL in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) undergoing chemotherapy. METHODS: A total of 124 patients with CRC undergoing chemotherapy were recruited and randomized to the SFT group or control group. Cancer-related fatigue was measured with the Cancer Fatigue Scale-Chinese version (CFS-C) at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months. Quality of life was measured with the Quality of Life Instruments for Colorectal Cancer Patients at baseline and 6 months. RESULTS: Of 124 patients, 119 (95.9%) were evaluable. The SFT group showed significantly lower Cancer Fatigue Scale-Chinese version scores than the control group in all subscales and the total scores at 3 months (P < .001). At 6 months, the SFT group had significantly lower scores in cognitive fatigue (P < .001) and total fatigue (P = .005). The CRF of the SFT group decreased in the first 3 months (P = .012) but increased at 6 months (P < .001). The SFT group had significantly higher scores in the physical and psychological domains and overall QoL (P = .002, P <.001, and P = .02) than the control group at 6 months. CONCLUSION: Solution-focused therapy may decrease the CRF and improve QoL during chemotherapy for patients with CRC. IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE: Solution-focused therapy can be implemented to relieve fatigue and improve QoL in patients with CRC.

To develop a quality control checklist for the prevention and control of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in fever clinic and isolation ward of the general hospital and to assess its application. Based on the relevant prevention and control plans and technical guidelines for COVID-19,Delphi method was used to identity items for evaluation,and a quality control checklist for the prevention and control of COVID-19 in the fever clinic and isolation ward was developed in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital. The checklists included 8 dimensions and 32 items for fever clinic,7 dimensions and 27 items for the isolation ward. The appointed inspectors conducted daily quality control for each shift with this checklist. The expert authority coefficient was 0.88,the mean of the importance of each index in the quality control table was not less than 4.8,and the coefficient of variation was not more than 0.07. During the entire February 2020,8 problems were found and rectified on-the-spot with the application of the checklist. Quality inspection rate was 100% in both isolation wards and fever clinic. The compliance rate and accuracy rate of hand hygiene were 100%; the correct rate of wearing and removing protective equipment increased from 96% to 100%. During the same period,a total of 1915 patients were admitted to the fever clinic,including 191 suspected patients (all were isolated in the hospital,3 were confirmed). There were no medical staff infected with COVID-19,no cross infection of patients and their families in the hospital. A quality control checklist for the prevention and control of COVID-19 has been developed and applied in the isolation wards and fever clinic,which plays an important role in preventing nosocomial infection.

PURPOSE: The aim of this longitudinal study was to analyze trends in fatigue among colorectal cancer patients during chemotherapy and examine the predictors of multidimensional fatigue. METHODS: A mixed sample of colorectal cancer patients who were receiving chemotherapy (N = 200) was recruited in China. The patients completed the Cancer Fatigue Scale (CFS) at baseline (before chemotherapy) and after 3 and 6 months of chemotherapy. Repeated measures ANOVAs were conducted to evaluate the effect of time on the CFS score. The data on violations of the statistical assumptions (independence, normality, and sphericity) from the repeated measures ANOVAs were examined. Stepwise regression analyses were conducted to evaluate the associations of the potential predictor variables at baseline on the total fatigue score and subscale scores at follow-up. RESULTS: As chemotherapy progressed, significant increases in the three subscale scores and total scores were observed. Physical fatigue and total fatigue scores increased continuously during chemotherapy (P < 0.001). However, affective fatigue and cognitive fatigue scores increased significantly in the first 3 months (P < 0.001) and basically remained stable thereafter (P > 0.05). Multiple stepwise regression was used to analyze the predictors. The results showed that the baseline fatigue subscale score was the strongest predictor of each dimension of fatigue. In addition, age affected physical fatigue, and monthly income and education affected cognitive fatigue. CONCLUSION: Fatigue increased during chemotherapy. Early assessment and intervention may be better for controlling fatigue, especially in patients with higher baseline fatigue level, older age, and lower economic and educational levels.

Departure delays are a major cause of economic loss and inefficiency in the growing industry of passenger flights. A departure delay of a current flight is inevitably affected by the late arrival of the flight immediately preceding it with the same aircraft. We seek to understand the mechanisms of such propagated delays, and to obtain universal metrics by which to evaluate an airline's operational effectiveness in delay alleviation. Here we use big data collected by the American Bureau of Transportation Statistics to design models of flight delays. Offering two dynamic models of delay propagation, we divided all carriers into two groups exhibiting a shifted power law or an exponentially truncated shifted power law delay distribution, revealing two universal delay propagation classes. Three model parameters, extracted directly from dual data mining, help characterize each airline's operational efficiency in delay mitigation. Therefore, our modeling framework provides the crucially lacking evaluation indicators for airlines, potentially contributing to the mitigation of future departure delays.

Scaling invariance of time series has been making great contributions in diverse research fields. But how to evaluate scaling exponent from a real-world series is still an open problem. Finite length of time series may induce unacceptable fluctuation and bias to statistical quantities and consequent invalidation of currently used standard methods. In this paper a new concept called correlation-dependent balanced estimation of diffusion entropy is developed to evaluate scale-invariance in very short time series with length ~10(2). Calculations with specified Hurst exponent values of 0.2,0.3,...,0.9 show that by using the standard central moving average de-trending procedure this method can evaluate the scaling exponents for short time series with ignorable bias (≤0.03) and sharp confidential interval (standard deviation ≤0.05). Considering the stride series from ten volunteers along an approximate oval path of a specified length, we observe that though the averages and deviations of scaling exponents are close, their evolutionary behaviors display rich patterns. It has potential use in analyzing physiological signals, detecting early warning signals, and so on. As an emphasis, the our core contribution is that by means of the proposed method one can estimate precisely shannon entropy from limited records.

In the coevolving voter model, each voter has one of two diametrically opposite opinions, and a voter encountering a neighbor with the opposite opinion may either adopt it or rewire the connection to another randomly chosen voter sharing the same opinion. As we smoothly change the relative frequency of rewiring compared to that of adoption, there occurs a phase transition between an active phase and a frozen phase. By performing extensive Monte Carlo calculations, we show that the phase transition is characterized by critical exponents ß=0.54(1) and ν[over ¯]=1.5(1), which differ from the existing mean-field-type prediction. We furthermore extend the model by introducing a contrarian type that tries to have neighbors with the opposite opinion, and show that the critical behavior still belongs to the same universality class irrespective of such contrarians' fraction.

AIM: To explore the infiltration pathogenesis of CD4(+);T cells following the spinal nerve ligation. METHODS: Healthy adult male SD rats were randomly divided into the spinal nerve ligation group (Tx), sham operation group (S), control group (C). the 50& mechanical paw withdrawal threshold ( 50&MWT ) was determined by up-down method; CD4(+);T cells infiltration was assessed by FACS; the mRNA levels of CCL2, CCL5 and CXCL10 were quantitated by RT-qPCR; serum cytokines were tested by ELISA kits. RESULTS: After 3 days since operation, 50&MWT of Tx group was significantly reduced (P<0.01) comparing with S group, C group; on day 14, 50&MWT was up to the minimum value; whereas S group and C group were no difference (P>0.05). After 7 days since operation, CD4(+);T cells infiltration into lumbar segments of the spinal cord in the Tx group increased significantly (P<0.01), and the CCL2, CCL5mRNA expression increased (P<0.05); on day 14, the CD4(+);T cells infiltration in Tx group was higher than S group, C group; but there was no statistical significance. On day 7 and 14 days, serum levels of cytokines were no difference in the three groups. CONCLUSION: Following spinal nerve ligation, high expression of chemokine promoted peripheral CD4(+);T cells to infiltrate into spinal cord; and the infiltrated CD4(+);T cells maintained the neuropathic pain.

In this paper, critical global connectivity of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) is investigated. We model the two-dimensional plane on which nodes move randomly with a triangular lattice. Demanding the best communication of the network, we account the global connectivity eta as a function of occupancy sigma of sites in the lattice by mobile nodes. Critical phenomena of the connectivity for different transmission ranges r are revealed by numerical simulations, and these results fit well to the analysis based on the assumption of homogeneous mixing. Scaling behavior of the connectivity is found as eta approximately f(R;{beta}sigma) , where R=(r-r_{0})r_{0} , r_{0} is the length unit of the triangular lattice, and beta is the scaling index in the universal function f(x) . The model serves as a sort of geometric distance-dependent site percolation on dynamic complex networks. Moreover, near each critical sigma_{c}(r) corresponding to certain transmission range r , there exists a cutoff degree k_{c} below which the clustering coefficient of such self-organized networks keeps a constant while the averaged nearest-neighbor degree exhibits a unique linear variation with the degree k , which may be useful to the designation of real MANETs.

We propose a model of network growth that generalizes the deactivation model previously suggested for complex networks. Several topological features of this generalized model, such as the degree distribution and clustering coefficient, have been investigated analytically and by simulations. A scaling behavior of clustering coefficient C approximately 1/M is theoretically obtained, where M refers to the number of active nodes in the network. We discuss the relationship between the recently observed numerical behavior of clustering coefficient in the coauthor and paper citation networks and our theoretical result. It shows that both of them are induced by deactivation mechanism. By introducing a perturbation, the generated network undergoes a transition from large to small world, meanwhile the scaling behavior of C is conserved. It indicates that C approximately 1/M is a universal scaling behavior induced by deactivation mechanism.

A dynamical model of small-world networks, with directed links which describe various correlations in social and natural phenomena, is presented. Random responses of sites to the input message are introduced to simulate real systems. The interplay of these ingredients results in the collective dynamical evolution of a spinlike variable S(t) of the whole network. The global average spreading length (s) and average spreading time (s) are found to scale as p(-alpha)ln(N with different exponents. Meanwhile, S(t) behaves in a duple scaling form for N>>N(*): S approximately f(p(-beta)q(gamma)t), where p and q are rewiring and external parameters, alpha, beta, and gamma are scaling exponents, and f(t) is a universal function. Possible applications of the model are discussed.
