RESUMO

One of the main challenges in developing high-performance quantum batteries is the self-discharging process, where energy is dissipated from a quantum battery into the environment. In this work, we investigate the influence of non-Markovian noises on the performance of a quantum battery. Our results demonstrate that adding auxiliary qubits to a quantum battery system can effectively suppress the self-discharging process, leading to an improvement in both the steady-state energy and extractable work. We reveal that the physical mechanism inhibiting the self-discharging process is the formation of system-environment bound states, rather than an increase in non-Markovianity. Our results could be of both theoretical and experimental interest in exploring the ability of quantum batteries to maintain long stored energy in the environment.

OBJECTIVES: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is one of the devastating complications of diabetes. It has high mortality and disability rates. The number of research articles on DFUs has increased. This study was designed to explore the global trends and research hotspots of DFUs to benefit researchers in shaping future research directions. METHODS: Literatures relating to DFU from 2004 to 2020 were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-expanded) of Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). The current status of DFU research (including publications, journals, the performances of relevant countries, institutions, and authors and the research trends and hotspots of DFU) was analyzed with the WoSCC. VOSviewer v1.6.10.0 was utilised for cocitation, coauthorship, cooccurrence analyses, and bibliographic coupling. RESULTS: A total of 5869 publications on DFUs were retrieved. We performed a longitudinal review of publications over 17 years: 4500 articles and 865 review articles on DFUs published from 2004 to 2020 were analyzed. The total citation was 107,296. The USA (n = 1866), England (n = 606), and China (n = 599) were the three largest contributors. The University of Washington had the greatest number of publications within this time period (n = 103), and it had the most cooperative units and was in the core position in all research institutions, followed by the University of Manchester (n = 94) and the University of Miami (n = 92). Armstrong DG (91/1.69%) and Lavery LA (55/1.19%) should be regarded as scholars who have made outstanding contributions. The top journal with the greatest total link strength was Diabetes Care. Analysis showed that the global research hotspots of DFU focused on lower limb amputation, diabetic foot infection, and treatment and management of DFU. Studies on osteomyelitis, wound therapy and management, multidisciplinary integration and mechanism of DFUs, and its related diseases are the research fronts that should be closely watched in the future. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed the current research status and hotspots in the domain of DFU over the past 17 years, which can help researchers to further pinpoint potential perspectives on hot topics and research frontiers.

OBJECTIVE: Structural MRI is a critical component in the pre-surgical investigation of epilepsy, as identifying an epileptogenic lesion increases the chance of post-surgical seizure freedom. In general practice, 1.5T and 3T MRI scans are still the mainstream in most epilepsy centres, particularly in resource-poor countries. When 1.5T MRI is non-lesional, a repeat scan is often performed as a higher-field structural scan, usually 3T. However, it is not known whether scanning at 3T increases diagnostic yield in patients with focal epilepsy. We sought to compare lesion detection and other features of 1.5T and 3T MRI acquired in the same patients with epilepsy. METHODS: MRI scans (1.5T and 3T) from 100 patients were presented in a blinded, randomized order to two neuroradiologists. The presence, location, and number of potentially epileptogenic lesions were compared. In addition, tissue contrast and the presence of motion/technical artifacts were compared using a 4-point subjective scale. RESULTS: Both the qualitative tissue contrast and motion/technical artifacts were improved at 3T. However, this did not result in statistically significant improvement in lesion detection. Qualitatively, five patients had subtle lesions seen only at 3T. However, minor differences in image acquisition parameters between 1.5T and 3T scans in these cases may have resulted in greater lesion visibility at 3T in four patients. Based on a general linear model analysis, the presence of a focal abnormality on EEG was predictive of the presence of a lesion at 1.5T and 3T. SIGNIFICANCE: Repeat MRI scanning of patients with focal epilepsy at 3T using similar scan protocols does not significantly increase diagnostic yield over scanning at 1.5T; the increased signal-to-noise ratio can potentially be better allocated for novel scan sequences in order to provide more clinical value.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Guizhi Jia Shaoyao decoction (GSD) is widely used in the clinical treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. The aim of this study was to explore functional mechanisms of GSD in treating KOA by utilizing network pharmacology-based approaches. METHODS: Candidate components and targets of GSD were retrieved from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database. NCBI, Genecards, Drugbank, and Therapeutic Target Database (TTD) were used to establish a target database for KOA. Then, an interactive network diagram of "drugs-active components-targets" was plotted with Cytoscape open source bioinformatics software. A protein-protein interaction network was constructed and related protein interaction relationships were analyzed based on the STRING database. Gene ontology analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway-enrichment analysis were conducted based on intersected targets. Molecular docking provided an assessment tool for verifying binding of components and targets. It was performed by AutoDock molecular modeling simulation software. RESULTS: In all, 103 active components were successfully identified, and corresponding 133 targets were searched for treating KOA. Functional enrichment analysis suggested that GSD exerts its pharmacological effect in treating KOA by regulating multiple pathways, such as PI3K-Akt, tumor necrosis factor, Toll-like receptor (TLR), and nuclear factor kappa B signaling pathways. Molecular docking analysis depicted that representative components bound firmly to key targets. CONCLUSION: This study revealed the synergistic effects of multiple components, targets, and pathways of GSD for treating KOA. This would enhance the understanding of potential molecular mechanisms of GSD for treating KOA and lay a foundation for further experimental research.

We investigate the charging process of open quantum battery in the weak system-environment coupling regime. A method to improve the performance of open quantum battery in a reservoir environment, which described by a band-gap environment model or a two-Lorentzian environment model, is proposed by manipulating the spectral density of environment. We find that the optimal quantum battery, characterized by fast charging time and large ergotropy, in the band-gap environment can be obtained by increasing the weights of two Lorentzians and the spectral width of the second Lorentzian, which is in sharp contrast to the quantum battery in two-Lorentzian environment. Then we extend our discussion to multiple coupled reservoir environments, which are composed of N coupled dissipative cavities. We show that, the performance of quantum battery can be enhanced by increasing the coupling strength between the nearest-neighbor environments and decreasing the size of the environments. In particular, to fully charge and extract the total stored energy as work for quantum battery can be achieved by manipulating the coupling strength between the nearest-neighbor environments. Our results provide a practical approach for the realization of the optimal quantum batteries in future experiments.

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a worldwide disease and more and more people are suffered from it. With the increasing number of patients, it brings a huge burden on social economy and security system. There are varieties of methods to cure KOA, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and surgery. Needle knife therapy plus Sodium hyaluronate Injection is one of the prevalent treatments for KOA. Therefore, we perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the evidence for the treatment of needle knife therapy plus sodium hyaluronate Injection. METHODS: Randomized controlled trials will be used to compare the effect of needle knife therapy plus sodium hyaluronate injection with needle knife alone for KOA patients. Six studies will be included in this meta-analysis, and the relative risk and weight mean difference with 95% CI for the Lysholm knee score, visual analogue scale, and effective rate will be evaluated by using RevMan 5.3 software. Besides, the bias assessment of the included studies will be evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias tool, and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment Development, and Evaluation system will be applied to assess the overall quality of the evidence. RESULTS: From the study we will assess the effectiveness, safety of needle knife therapy plus sodium hyaluronate injection on joint pain relief and functional improvement in patients with KOA. CONCLUSION: The study will provide a new evidence to confirm the effect of needle knife therapy plus sodium hyaluronate injection on KOA, which can further guide the selection of therapy. We demonstrate the existence of finite-component multicriticality in a qubit-boson model where biased qubits collectively coupled to a single-mode bosonic field. The interplay between biases and boson-qubit coupling produces a rich phase diagram which shows multiple superradiant phases and phase boundaries of different orders. In particular, multiple phases become indistinguishable in appropriate bias configurations, which is the signature of multicriticality. A series of universality classes characterizing these multicritical points are identified. Moreover, we present a trapped-ion realization with the potential to explore multicritical phenomena experimentally using a small number of ions. The results open a novel way to probe multicritical universality classes in experiments.

We investigate the universal dissipationless dynamics of Gaussian continuous-variable systems in the presence of a band-gapped bosonic environment. Our results show that environmental band gaps can induce localized modes, which give rise to the dissipationless dynamics where the system behaves as free oscillators instead of experiencing a full decay in the long-time limit. We present a complete characterization of localized modes and show the existence of the critical system-environment coupling. Beyond the critical values, localized modes can be produced, and the system dynamics become dissipationless. This novel dynamics can be utilized to overcome the environmental noises and protect the quantum resources in the continuous-variable quantum information.

Entangled systems with large quantum Fisher information (QFI) can be used to outperform the standard quantum limit of the separable systems in quantum metrology. However, the interaction between the system and the environments inevitably leads to decoherence and decrease of the QFI, and it is not clear whether the entanglement systems can be a better resource than separable systems in the realistic physical condition. In this work, we study the steady QFI of two driven and collectively damped qubits with homodyne-mediated feedback. We show that the steady QFI can be significantly enhanced both in the cases of symmetric feedback and nonsymmetric feedback, and the shot-noise limit of separable states can be surpassed in both cases. The QFI can even achieve the Heisenberg limit for appropriate feedback parameters and initial conditions in the case of symmetric feedback. We also show that an initial-condition-independent steady QFI can be obtained by using nonsymmetric feedback.

The biased Dicke model describes a system of biased two-level atoms coupled to a bosonic field, and is expected to produce new phenomena that are not present in the original Dicke model. In this paper, we study the critical properties of the biased Dicke model in the classical oscillator limits. For the finite-biased case in this limit, We present analytical results demonstrating that the excitation energy does not vanish for arbitrary coupling. This indicates that the second order phase transition is avoided in the biased Dicke model, which contrasts to the original Dicke model. We also analyze the squeezing and the entanglement in the ground state, and find that a finite bias will strongly modify their behaviors in the vicinity of the critical coupling point.

The anisotropic Rabi model, which was proposed recently, differs from the original Rabi model: the rotating and counter-rotating terms are governed by two different coupling constants. This feature allows us to vary the counter-rotating interaction independently and explore the effects of it on some quantum properties. In this paper, we eliminate the counter-rotating terms approximately and obtain the analytical energy spectrums and wavefunctions. These analytical results agree well with the numerical calculations in a wide range of the parameters including the ultrastrong coupling regime. In the weak counter-rotating coupling limit we find out that the counter-rotating terms can be considered as the shifts to the parameters of the Jaynes-Cummings model. This modification shows the validness of the rotating-wave approximation on the assumption of near-resonance and relatively weak coupling. Moreover, the analytical expressions of several physics quantities are also derived, and the results show the break-down of the U(1)-symmetry and the deviation from the Jaynes-Cummings model.
