RESUMO

Medical 225Ac/213Bi radionuclide generators are designed to provide a local supply of the short-lived 213Bi for cancer treatment. However, radiation-induced damage to the sorbents commonly used in such radionuclide generators remains a major concern. In this study, the effects of gamma radiation on AG MP-50 cation exchange resin and sulfonated activated carbon (SAC) were studied by analyzing the changes in the morphological characteristics, functional groups, and the La3+/Bi3+ sorption performance, with La3+ being a suitable non-radioactive substitute for Ac3+. The surface sulfonic acid groups of AG MP-50 resin suffered from severe radiation-induced degradation, while the particle morphology was changed markedly after being exposed to absorbed doses of approximately 11 MGy. As a result, the sorption performance of irradiated AG MP-50 for La3+ and Bi3+ was significantly decreased with increasing absorbed doses. In contrast, no apparent changes in acquired morphological characteristics were observed for pristine and irradiated SAC based on SEM and XRD characterization. The surface oxygen content (e.g., O-C[double bond, length as m-dash]O) of irradiated SAC increased for an absorbed dose of 11 MGy due to free radical-induced oxidation. The sorption performance of pristine and irradiated SAC materials for La3+ and Bi3+ remained generally the same at pH values of 1 and 2. Furthermore, the applicability of AG MP-50 and SAC in the 225Ac/213Bi generators was illustrated in terms of their radiolytic stability. This study provides further evidence for the practical implementation of both AG MP-50 and SAC in 225Ac/213Bi radionuclide generators.

PURPOSE: The goal of current study was to introduce noninvasive and reproducible MRI methods for in vivo functional assessment of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). METHODS: Forty-four patients with pathologically confirmed LUAD were included in this study. All the lesions were classified as adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA), or invasive adenocarcinoma (IA). The IA lesions were further divided into five subtype patterns, including acinar, lepidic, papillary, micropapillary and solid. Tumors were grouped depending on predominant subtype: low grade (AIS, MIA or lepidic predominant), intermediate grade (papillary or acinar predominant) and high grade (micropapillary, or solid predominant). Spirometry was performed according to American Thoracic Society guidelines. For each patient, Intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) analysis and oxygen-enhanced MRI (OE-MRI) analysis were performed. Spearman's test was used to assess the relationship between a) whole lung mean percent signal enhancement (PSE) and pulmonary function tests (PFTs) parameters; b) IVIM-derived parameters and PFTs parameters; c) tumor mean PSE and IVIM-derived parameters. Kruskal -Wallis tests were applied to test the difference of tumor mean PSE and IVIM-derived parameters between different histological tumor grades. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic performance. RESULTS: Whole lung mean PSE was significantly positively correlated with PFTs parameters (r = 0.40 ~ 0.44, P < 0.05). f value derived from IVIM-DWI was significantly negatively correlated with PFTs parameters (r = -0.38 ~ -0.47, P < 0.05). Both tumor mean PSE (P = 0.030 < 0.05) and f (P = 0.022 < 0.05) could differentiate different histological grades. f was negatively correlated with tumor mean PSE (r = -0.61, P < 0.001). For the diagnostic performance, the combination of tumor mean PSE and f outperformed than using tumor mean PSE or f alone in both sensitivity and area under the ROC curve. CONCLUSIONS: The combined measurement of OE-MRI and IVIM-DWI may serve as a promising method for the noninvasive and non-radiation evaluation of pulmonary function. Quantitative analyses achieved by OE-MRI and IVIM-DWI offer an approach of the classification of LUAD subtypes.

In the present study, blood samples of 984 unrelated Han individuals were collected from Dongfang, Southern China, after informed consent. A total of 29 Y-chromosomal short tandem repeat (Y-STR) were analyzed, including DYF387S1, DYS19, DYS385ab, DYS389I, DYS389II, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS437, DYS438, DYS439, DYS444, DYS447, DYS448, DYS449, DYS456, DYS458, DYS460, DYS481, DYS508, DYS518, DYS533, DYS576, DYS635, DYS643 and GATAH4. A total of 749 different haplotypes were found among 984 individuals, of which 645 were unique. The haplotype diversity was 0.9988 and the discrimination capacity was 0.7612, while the match probability was 0.0025. The smallest genetic distance (RST = 0.0155) was found between the Dongfang Han population and Guizhou Han population, while the largest genetic distance (RST = 0.1284) was observed with Gansu Tibetan.
