RESUMO

Given the heterogeneity of different malignant processes, planning cancer treatment is challenging. According to recent studies, natural products are likely to be effective in cancer prevention and treatment. Among bioactive flavonoids found in fruits and vegetables, kaempferol (KMP) is known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. This systematic review aims to highlight the potential therapeutic effects of KMP on different types of solid malignant tumors. This review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Searches were performed in EMBASE, Medline/PubMed, Cochrane Collaboration Library, Science Direct, Scopus, and Google Scholar. After the application of study criteria, 64 studies were included. In vitro experiments demonstrated that KMP exerts antitumor effects by controlling tumor cell cycle progression, proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion, as well as by inhibiting angiogenesis. KMP was also able to inhibit important markers that regulate epithelial-mesenchymal transition and enhanced the sensitivity of cancer cells to traditional drugs used in chemotherapy, including cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil. This flavonoid is a promising therapeutic compound and its combination with current anticancer agents, including targeted drugs, may potentially produce more effective and predictable results.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common and lethal type of head and neck cancer in the world. Variable response and acquisition of resistance to traditional therapies show that it is essential to develop novel strategies that can provide better outcomes for the patient. Understanding of cellular and molecular mechanisms of cell death control has increased rapidly in recent years. Activation of cell death pathways, such as the emerging forms of non-apoptotic programmed cell death, including ferroptosis, pyroptosis, necroptosis, NETosis, parthanatos, mitoptosis and paraptosis, may represent clinically relevant novel therapeutic opportunities. This systematic review summarizes the recently described forms of cell death in OSCC, highlighting their potential for informing diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Original studies that explored any of the selected cell deaths in OSCC were included. Electronic search, study selection, data collection and risk of bias assessment tools were realized. The literature search was carried out in four databases, and the extracted data from 79 articles were categorized and grouped by type of cell death. Ferroptosis, pyroptosis, and necroptosis represented the main forms of cell death in the selected studies, with links to cancer immunity and inflammatory responses, progression and prognosis of OSCC. Harnessing the potential of these pathways may be useful in patient-specific prognosis and individualized therapy. We provide perspectives on how these different cell death types can be integrated to develop decision tools for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of OSCC.

Changes in the expression of nuclear ß-catenin are responsible for tumorigenesis. Beta-catenin acts synergistically with the TGF-ß/BMPs pathway. This interaction leads to greater dentin deposition and may explain the differences between distinct tooth morphologies and hamartomas. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of ß-catenin, BMP4 and TGF-ß in the development of odontomas. This cross-sectional, retrospective, immunohistochemical study evaluated 30 compound odontomas, 30 complex odontomas and 17 tooth germs. The results showed that BMP4 and TGF-ß were more immunoexpressed in the ectomesenchyme of complex odontomas (median = 33.7, p < 0.001; median = 76.4, p = 0.002, respectively). Higher immunoexpression of BMP4 and TGF-ß was also observed in the epithelium of tooth germs (median = 2.0, p < 0.001; median = 120.3, p < 0.001, respectively). TGF-ß and BMP4 showed a positive and significant correlation (p < 0.001). Both TGF-ß and BMP4 were positively correlated with nuclear ß-catenin in ectomesenchyme (p = 0.047 and p = 0.023, respectively). Developing teeth exhibited higher concentrations of the proteins studied in odontogenic epithelium, especially during the bud and cap stages. Higher immunoexpression in odontomas occurred mainly in the ectomesenchyme. We therefore suggest that changes in the ectomesenchyme can lead to the development of odontomas.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common oral malignancy, representing 90% of all malignant neoplasms in the head and neck region. Patients with this aggressive tumor have an overall 5-year survival rate of approximately 50%, which drops to less than 30% when tumors are diagnosed at advanced clinical stages. Over decades, several studies provided high-level evidence of the impact of histopathological features on treatment guidelines and prognosis of OSCC. The 8th American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) TNM staging system recognized the importance of depth of invasion to the T category and extranodal extension to the N category for OSCC. This review provides the current knowledge on emerging histopathological parameters identified as potential biomarkers for OSCC, such as depth of invasion, tumor thickness, the pattern of invasion, inflammatory profile, and tumor-stroma ratio, evaluating their clinical relevance on patient outcomes. Analysis, limitations, and potential biological mechanisms are highlighted and discussed. Assessing and reporting these markers are cost-effective and can be incorporated into daily practice.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare salivary gland tumor that accounts for approximately 1% of all head and neck cancers. Despite its initial indolent behavior, long-term survival is poor due to locoregional recurrence in approximately 40% and distant metastasis in up to 60% of patients who undergo radical treatment. The histological parameters of ACC and the combination of these parameters in histopathological grading systems provide valuable prognostic information about the clinical course of the disease. Within this context, this review aims to analyze the impact of histopathological parameters, individual or combined in histopathological grading systems of malignancy, on ACC prognosis. Individual histopathological parameters such as solid pattern, presence of tumor necrosis, high-grade transformation, dominance of the epithelial component, presence of perineural and lymphovascular invasion, and positive surgical margins have negative impacts on the survival of patients with ACC. There are currently four histopathological grading systems for ACC; however, few studies have validated these systems and most of them explored small cohorts with short follow-up. Considering that the application of grading systems has been associated with ACC prognosis, a broader validation will allow not only their use for prognostic prediction but also assist in treatment planning.

BACKGROUND: Recently, a new odontogenic tumor has been described, the so-called adenoid ameloblastoma (AdAM). The aim of this review was to determine the clinical and imaging features of AdAM and to describe its main histopathological findings. METHODS: The systematic review included published cases with a diagnosis of AdAM in the gnathic bones, which had sufficient clinical, imaging, and histopathological data to confirm its diagnosis. The following histopathological diagnostic criteria were adopted: presence of ameloblastoma-like components, duct-like structures, spiral cellular condensations, and a cribriform architecture. RESULTS: Fifteen articles, corresponding to 30 cases of AdAM, were selected. Most cases affected men (63.3%), with a slight preference for the mandible (16:14) and the posterior region of gnathic bones was the most commonly affected site. The mean age at diagnosis was 40.8 years. Clinically, the lesions usually presented as a swelling (53.3%) and, radiographically, as a well-defined radiolucency (33.4%). Surgical resection (40%) was the most frequently adopted treatment and recurrence occurred in 30% of cases. Microscopic examination showed cribriform areas in most AdAM cases (93.3%); duct-like structures and spiral cellular condensations were seen in 100% of the cases. CONCLUSION: The small number of reported cases, the existence of erroneous diagnoses, and the adoption of initial conservative management make it difficult to determine whether AdAM has a higher risk of recurrence or more aggressive biological behavior than conventional ameloblastomas.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of SNAIL1, E-cadherin, and N-cadherin immunoexpression in oral tongue carcinogenesis. In addition, we evaluated in vitro the impact of silencing of the nuclear transcription factor SNAIL1 on the viability, apoptosis, proliferation, migration, and invasion of SCC-9 and HSC-3 cells. STUDY DESIGN: Immunohistochemical analysis of SNAIL1, E-cadherin, and N-cadherin was carried out in 47 samples representing oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) and 41 oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC). The suppression of SNAIL1 expression was performed using shRNA-expression vectors in HSC-3 and SCC-9 cells to investigate in vitro the impact of SNAIL1 on proliferation, apoptosis, viability, migration, and invasion of SCC-9 and HSC-3 cells. RESULTS: Significant differences were observed in the expression of SNAIL1, E-cadherin, and N-Cadherin between OTSCC and OED. A low membrane expression of E-cadherin was strongly associated with poor overall survival in patients with OTSCC (P < .05), but the association did not withstand the Cox multivariate survival analysis. SNAIL1 silencing played a key role in the suppression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition and inhibited migration and invasion of HSC-3 cells (P < .0001, P < .01, respectively). In SCC-9 cells, SNAIL1 silencing promoted a significant reduction in the proliferation (P < .0001) and invasion (P < .0001). CONCLUSIONS: The epithelial-mesenchymal transition is present in different stages of oral tongue carcinogenesis, and SNAIL1 plays a key role in this process, although the underlying mechanisms still need to be elucidated. Thus, SNAIL1 might be a promising therapeutic target in OTSCC.

BACKGROUND: Although nerve involvement can predict recurrence and prognosis in oral squamous cell carcinomas, there still have controversies and limitations regarding the standardization for its detection. In this study, we explore the impact of neural invasion in oral squamous cell carcinomas prognosis, comparing intraneural invasion (tumor cells inside nerve structure) and perineural invasion (cells involving the nerve, but not invading its sheath). METHODS: Surgical slides stained with hematoxylin and eosin from 235 patients with oral squamous cell carcinomas were carefully verified for the presence of intraneural invasion and perineural invasion. The location in the tumor (intratumoral vs. peritumoral) and number of foci (unifocal or multifocal) were also explored. Survival analyses for cancer-specific survival and disease-free survival were performed with Cox proportional model. RESULTS: Neural invasion was identified in 74 cases, 64.9% displayed intraneural invasion and 35.1% displayed perineural invasion. Univariate analysis revealed a significantly poorer cancer-specific survival, but not disease-free survival, in patients with intraneural invasion, in contrast to cases with perineural invasion that did not achieve significant association with both cancer-specific survival and disease-free survival. Further analyses revealed that the location in the tumor and number of foci had little impact on discriminatory ability of intraneural invasion. Multivariate analysis confirmed that intraneural invasion is significantly and independently associated with poor cancer-specific survival (hazard ratio: 2.50, 95% CI: 1.31-3.79, p = 0.003). CONCLUSION: This study provides evidence that intraneural invasion, but not perineural invasion, is a relevant predictor of survival in patients with oral squamous cell carcinomas, suggesting that its association with other clinical and pathological prognostic factors should be consider in determining the optimal treatment protocol and prognosis of these patients.

BACKGROUND: Lipomas are benign soft tissue neoplasms frequently found in the human body. Head and neck lipomas are relatively uncommon, accounting for 1 to 4% of benign lesions at this location. This 14-year retrospective study analyzed the clinical-pathological features of cases of oral cavity lipomas and their histopathological variants seen at a single oral pathology referral center. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data on age, sex, anatomical location, clinical diagnosis, and histological subtypes were collected from all cases microscopically diagnosed as lipoma. Three previously trained oral pathologists re-evaluated hematoxylin/eosin-stained slides of all selected cases. RESULTS: Among 7,861 oral and maxillofacial lesions diagnosed at the service, 95 (1.2%) were lipomas or their histopathological variants. There was a predominance of female patients (n = 65; 68%); the mean age at diagnosis was 58.8 years (±13.56). We found the following histological subtypes: conventional lipoma, fibrolipoma, spindle cell lipoma, sialolipoma, osteolipoma, chondrolipoma, and intramuscular lipoma. The buccal mucosa was the most affected site. Conventional lipoma and fibrolipoma were the most commonly diagnosed histological variants. Although most lipomas are asymptomatic, large lipomas can occur, reaching a diameter of 4 cm. CONCLUSION: The present study reinforces the importance of careful clinical and histopathological examination in order to obtain an accurate diagnosis and to ensure appropriate treatment.

BACKGROUND: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition is one of the main mechanisms for tumor progression and metastasis. Transcription factors such as TWIST1 are key regulators of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and are regarded as potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of cancer. The purpose of this study was to examine TWIST1 as a possible epithelial-mesenchymal transition-related prognostic biomarker in oral epithelial dysplasia and oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas, as well as the biological behavior of TWIST1-silencing in oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas cell lines. METHODS: Immunohistochemical analysis of TWIST1, E-cadherin, and N-cadherin was carried out in 47 samples representing oral epithelial dysplasia and 41 oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas. The suppression of TWIST1 expression was performed using shRNA-expression vectors in HSC-3 and SCC-9 cells to investigate in vitro the impact of TWIST1 on proliferation, apoptosis, viability, migration, and invasion of SCC-9 and HSC-3 cells. RESULTS: The expression of nuclear TWIST1 was significantly higher in oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas than in oral epithelial dysplasis (p < 0.0001), whereas TWIST1 in the cytoplasm was more expressed in oral epithelial dysplasis (p = 0.012). The high cytoplasmic expression of TWIST1 was significantly associated with shortened overall survival (p < 0.05), and increased nuclear TWIST1 expression was significantly related to high risk of recurrence (p = 0.03). Knockdown of TWIST1 in oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas cells induced the expression of E-cadherin and inhibited N-cadherin, which were followed by decreased proliferation, migration, and invasion. CONCLUSIONS: Our research suggests that TWIST1 is linked to the development of oral tongue carcinogenesis and may be used as a prognostic indicator and therapeutic target for oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas patients.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate and compare the immunoexpression of E-cadherin, α-SMA, TGF-ß and Snail proteins between cases of actinic cheilitis (AC) and squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip (LLSCC). STUDY DESIGN: E-cadherin, α-SMA, TGF-ß and Snail antibody immunostaining was analyzed semiquantitatively in 54 AC cases and in 49 LLSCCs. The cases were classified as low and high expression for analysis of the association with clinicopathological variables and overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates. RESULTS: High expression of E-cadherin (cytoplasmic) (p = 0.001) and α-SMA (p < 0.001) was identified in LLSCCs, as well as low expression of TGF-ß in LLSCCs (p < 0.001) and high expression of Snail in AC cases (p = 0.006). Survival analysis revealed that high expression of α-SMA at the tumor invasion front, a network immunostaining pattern of this protein, and high expression of TGF-ß in tumor buds were significantly associated with poor OS (p < 0.05). There was a higher risk of death among LLSCC cases with high expression of α-SMA (HR = 5.90, p = 0.03). High expression of TGF-ß in tumor buds was significantly associated with poor DFS (p = 0.007) and with a higher risk of negative outcomes for DFS (HR = 4.44, p = 0.014). CONCLUSIONS: The present results suggest the potential involvement of dysregulation of proteins associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition in the modulation of lip carcinogenesis and greater aggressiveness of LLSCC.

Vitamins are organic compounds present in low concentrations in food, performing vital and specific cell metabolism functions. Vitamin B12 is essential for red blood cell formation in the bone marrow and its deficiency is caused, mainly, by gastrointestinal malabsorption. In addition to systemic manifestations, oral signs and symptoms have also been associated to this condition such as glossitis, papillary atrophy, painful erythema areas, burning sensation, dysgeusia, lingual paresthesia and itching. This study aims to report four cases of oral manifestations caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. All patients presented oral mucosa lesions. Vitamin B12 deficiency was diagnosed based in clinical characteristics and complementary exams. Oral supplementation for vitamin B12 deficiency was conducted/realized in three patients, while one patient was treated with parenteral doses. All of them showed partial or total remission of the signs and symptoms.

INTRODUCTION: Pycnodysostosis is a rare autosomal recessive syndrome that provides the abnormal bone metabolism that increases the susceptibility of patients to develop osteomyelitis. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review was conducted to analyze the risk factors associated with the development of complications in the jaws (fractures and osteomyelitis), as well as their clinical-pathological characteristics and therapeutic approaches in patients with pycnodysostosis. METHODS: Searches were performed in the PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Lilacs, and Cochrane databases. Case reports or case series that met the eligibility criteria according to the PRISMA statement were included. The full texts of 31 articles were retrieved. Twenty of these articles published between 1969 and 2018 were selected, which described 26 cases of osteomyelitis in patients with pycnodysostosis. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 37.84 years; the male-to-female was 1.36:1. The mandible was the most affected site (76.9%). Tooth extraction was the main risk factor for osteomyelitis (61.5%), followed by infection (26.8%) and mandibular fracture (23.0%). Antibiotic therapy alone or combined with some surgical procedure was the treatment used in most cases (80.7%). CONCLUSION: The findings of this review showed that patients with pycnodysostosis are more likely to develop osteomyelitis of the jaws after surgical procedures, especially tooth extraction which remains the main risk factor for its establishment. In addition, prophylactic antibiotic-therapy in the pre- and postoperative periods may prevent the development of osteomyelitis in pycnodysostosis.

OBJECTIVES: This systematic review evaluated the effect of phytotherapeutics in the treatment and prevention of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-induced oral mucositis (OM) in animal models. DESIGN: A search was performed in PubMed/Medline, CENTRAL (The Cochrane Library), EMBASE, and Web of Science, including studies published up to January 2020. Only articles investigating the chemoinduction of OM by 5-FU in animal models were included. Eligibility was evaluated and data were extracted from the eligible studies following the predefined PICO questions. The Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Assessment tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies. RESULT: A total of 503 articles were retrieved and 13 were included. The hamster was the animal model used in all included studies. The treatment method ranged from the topical application of ointment (n = 3), gel (n = 5) and extract (n = 3) to the oral ingestion of the phytotherapeutics (n = 3). Chamomilla recutita L. (n = 3) and Pistacia atlantica (n = 3) were the most used therapeutic agents. Although all studies were classified as high risk of bias, all of them reported promising results regarding the use of phytotherapeutics in the management of OM, including lower clinical and histopathological scores as well as healing, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant activities. CONCLUSION: Despite the high risk of bias of the studies, phytotherapy is a promising alternative for the treatment of 5-FU-induced OM, showing interesting results in terms of tissue healing and anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant activity.

Laser therapy has proved effective in the treatment of different tissue injuries but little is known about its effect on the testis. The aim of this review was to synthesize research on the in vivo effect of low-level laser therapy on the seminiferous epithelium. A search was performed in the PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, and LILACS databases. The initial search retrieved 354 references, and five articles that met the eligibility criteria were selected. In general, the studies showed that laser therapy exerted a positive effect on the germ cell population; however, there was considerable variation in the laser parameters, as well as in the experimental models and methods of tissue analysis used. In conclusion, further studies determining the biostimulation parameters of laser therapy in the testis are necessary in order to provide a basis for the possible application of this technique to the restoration of the human seminiferous epithelium and consequent treatment of some male reproductive disorders.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) is a rare malignancy that accounts for approximately 1% of all head and neck cancers. This neoplasm is characterized by slow but often relentless growth and dissemination. Our aim was to retrospectively evaluate the clinical-pathological features of patients diagnosed with head and neck AdCC and to identify possible prognostic factors. This retrospective observational study analyzed 87 cases of AdCC of the head and neck. Clinical parameters (tumor size, lymph node and distant metastasis, clinical stage, and survival) were obtained from the records. Survival curves were constructed using the Kaplan-Meier method. A p value ≤ 0.05 was considered significant. There was a slight predominance of cases diagnosed in female patients (54%). The mean age at diagnosis was 51.5 years. Analysis using Cox's proportional hazards model considering 10-year disease-specific survival identified histologic pattern and presence of perineural invasion as independent prognostic variables. Primary tumor size and distant metastasis were prognostic predictors of 5- and 10-year disease-free survival. Detailed analysis of the association between clinical-pathological parameters and prognosis can assist professionals with cancer treatment planning and adequate patient management. Considering the long-term aggressive behavior of AdCC, rigorous patient follow-up is important to identify possible locoregional or distant recurrences.

Primary intraosseous oral squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) is a rare malignant neoplasm that affects the jaws. Despite its aggressive biological behavior, there are no studies that evaluated the clinicopathological features of this tumor and parameters associated with its prognosis. The objective of the present study was to conduct a systematic review of the available data on oral and maxillofacial PIOSCC in order to determine its clinicopathological characteristics and biological behavior. We conducted a systematic review in May 2020 in multiple databases using a specific search strategy. Cases diagnosed as PIOSCC in the oral cavity and maxillofacial complex that had sufficient histopathological data, absence of ulceration in the oral mucosa, a negative result for a distant primary tumor, and radiographic evidence of an osteolytic lesion that was entirely or mostly surrounded by the jaw bones were included. A total of 109 published articles were included in our systematic review, corresponding to 257 cases. PIOSCC showed a male predilection (69.3%) and a preference for the mandible (7:1), with the posterior region being the most commonly affected site. The mean age at diagnosis was 57.3 years. Cortical expansion, pain, and lip/facial paresthesia were the most common clinical features. Regarding histopathological features, most PIOSCC were well-differentiated and the solid subtype was the most common. Statistical analysis showed that PIOSCC located in the mandible (p = 0.03) and recurrence (p < 0.01) were significantly associated with a higher mortality rate. PIOSCC has a poor prognosis, with high rates of mortality.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this systematic review was to explore the biological functions and mechanisms of epithelial-mesenchymal transition-inducing transcription factors in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma-derived cell lines. In addition, we analyzed the possible usefulness of epithelial-mesenchymal transition-inducing transcription factors as a future therapeutic target. DESIGN: An electronic search was performed in EMBASE, Medline/PubMed, Chinese BioMedical Literature Databases, and Cochrane Collaboration Library. Articles evaluating the relationship between epithelial-mesenchymal transition-inducing transcription factors and the biological behavior of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cell lines were selected for this systematic review. The quality of evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) criteria. RESULTS: After application of the previously established inclusion/exclusion criteria, 23 articles were included in the qualitative synthesis. Our study showed that epithelial-mesenchymal transition-inducing transcription factors are essential components during the progression of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas and their overexpression is associated with a greater capacity of dissemination and survival of the tumor and resistance to cancer treatment. The inhibition of epithelial-mesenchymal transition-inducing transcription factors is able to reverse the epithelial-mesenchymal transition process and to increase the sensitivity of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cell lines to radio/chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: Analysis of the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition-inducing transcription factors for the prediction of prognosis and response to cancer treatment may have a significant clinical impact.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this systematic review was to provide an overview of the oral and maxillofacial solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) in order to determine its clinicopathologic characteristics and biological behavior. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review in May 2019 in multiple databases. Cases diagnosed as SFT in the oral cavity and maxillofacial complex were included. RESULTS: Seventy-three published articles were included in our systematic review, corresponding to a total of 154 cases. SFT showed a slight female predilection (53.2%), and the cheek mucosa/cheek, tongue, and palate were the most affected anatomical sites. The mean size of SFT in the oral cavity and maxillofacial region at diagnosis was 1.4 cm. Histologic features of malignancy by morphologic analysis (P < .001) were significantly associated with a larger tumor size. Surgical excision was the most frequent therapeutic modality. Recurrence and metastasis were uncommon findings in our sample. CONCLUSIONS: Histologic features of malignancy can be important parameters of tumor behavior. Adequate surgical treatment and long-term follow-up are required for these cases.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to analyze the demographics, clinicopathological, treatment, and survival characteristics of head and neck sarcomas diagnosed in a reference center in the Brazilian Northeast. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study reviewed the clinical records of patients with head and neck sarcomas. Epidemiologic data consisted in clinical location, age, gender, histopathological diagnosis, clinical TNM staging and treatment. Outcome variables were local recurrence and survival. The statistical analyses were performed by a binary logistic regression analysis. The survival analysis was assessed through the Kaplan-Meier curve. RESULTS: Sixty-nine patients with head and neck sarcomas (male 39; female 30) were analyzed. The most common histologic subtypes were rhabdomyosarcoma, dermatofibrosarcoma, and pleomorphic sarcoma. The mean age of the patients at the time of diagnosis was 38.1 years old. A total of 31 patient died (sarcoma-related death) up to the end of the follow-up, with a mean follow-up rate of 1.63 years. A multivariate analysis revealed that anatomical site, treatment modality, histopathological diagnosis, and clinical stage of the disease were associated with specific survival, reaching statistical significance. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates the impact of important clinical-pathological parameters on the overall prognosis of head and neck sarcomas.
