RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Apathy is a negative symptom of schizophrenia and is associated with poor real world functioning. Therefore, it is important to have validated psychometric instruments to assess this symptom. This is the first study to validate the Spanish adaptation of the self-rated version of the Apathy Assessment Scale (AES-S) in patients with schizophrenia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Naturalistic, cross-sectional, validation study in 104 patients with schizophrenia evaluated using the following scales: Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S), Personal and Social Performance (PSP), Clinical Assessment Interview for Negative Symptoms (CAINS), Self-report of Negative Symptoms (SNS), Motivation and Pleasure Scale-Self-Report (MAP-SR), Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS), and Apathy Evaluation Scale-self-rated version (AES-S). RESULTS: Reliability: Internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) was 0.908. Convergent validity: The Pearson correlation coefficient between AES-S and CAINS-MAP total scores was -0.483 (p<0.001). For SNS, total and avolition subscale scores were -0.803 and -0.639 (p<0.001), respectively. With the MAP-SR, the correlation coefficient was -0.727 (p<0.001). Divergent validity: The Pearson correlation coefficient between AES-S and PSP total scores was 0.504 (p<0.001). Furthermore, with the CDSS, the correlation coefficient was -0.431 (p<0.001). Discriminant validity: The AES-S discriminated between different levels of illness severity according to CGI-S scores. Factor analysis: A three-component solution explained 57.32% of the variance. Pearson correlations between coefficients were 1-2=0.265, 1-3=0.464, and 2-3=0.060. CONCLUSION: The Spanish AES-S is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing apathy in Spanish patients with schizophrenia. It seems to be appropriate for use in everyday clinical practice as a means of monitoring apathy in these patients.

RESUMO

The statistical weakness problem occurring as a result of physical randomness is an important shortcoming of TRNGs. Post-processing techniques are generally used in the literature to overcome this shortcoming. In this study, the hardware implementation of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) substitution box (s-box)-based novel post-processing technique is presented. The low-cost novel method is based on the substitution s-box transformations and can successfully remove the statistical weakness problem of TRNGs. The real-time verification of the proposed post-processing is done by applying ring oscillator (RO) based TRNG architecture in four different scenarios on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) environment. Successful statistical results obtained from bias, correlation, entropy and NIST 800-22 tests confirm the usability of the proposed method for cryptographic purposes. The low area-energy requirement, practicality and compressionless properties of the post-processing provide better tradeoff for TRNG compared to known methods in the literature. For this reason, TRNG's performance is high. Furthermore, the presented study is important in demonstrating that s-boxes with good mathematical encryption properties can also be used for different cryptographic purposes.

RESUMO

2-Amino-3-benzoyl thiophenes have been widely reported to act as allosteric enhancers at the A1 adenosine receptor. Their activity can be increased considerably by appropriate substitutions at the 4- and 5-positions of the thiophene ring. Substituent size at the thiophene C-4 position seemed to be a factor closely related to activity, with the 4-neopentyl (2,2-dimethylpropyl) substitution showing the greatest enhanced activity. A wide series of 2-amino-3-aroyl-4-neopentylthiophene derivatives with general structure 3, characterized by the presence of different substituents (bromine, aryl and heteroaryl) at the 5-position of the thiophene ring, have been identified as potent AEs at the A1AR. With only one exception, all of the synthesized compounds proved to be superior to the reference compound PD 81,723 in a functional assay. Derivatives 3p, 3u, 3am, 3ap and 3ar were the most active compounds in binding (saturation and competition) and functional cAMP studies, being able to potentiate agonist [(3)H]CCPA binding to the A1 receptor.
