Objetivo: identificar o local e os cuidados diretos recebidos por pessoas com úlceras da perna por doença falciforme nos serviços de atenção à saúde. Método: estudo transversal, realizado em 11 centros, no período de agosto de 2019 a abril de 2020. Fizeram parte do estudo 72 pessoas com úlcera da perna ativa. O estudo foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa. Resultado: apresentavam anemia falciforme 91,7% dos participantes, com mediana de três anos de existência da úlcera; 77,8% eram redicivantes; 40,3% compravam os insumos; 66,7% trocavam o próprio curativo no domicílio; 52,8% realizavam uma ou mais trocas diárias; 45,8% dos tratamentos foram prescritos pelo médico; 37,5% eram pomada (colagenase ou antibiótico); 89% não utilizavam compressão para o manejo do edema. Conclusão: a maioria dos participantes não estava inserida na Rede de Atenção à Saúde para o tratamento da úlcera, e não recebia assistência sistematizada e nem insumos apropriados.


Objective: to identify the location and direct care received by people with leg ulcers due to sickle cell disease in health care services. Method: a cross-sectional study carried out in 11 centers from August 2019 to April 2020. The study included 72 people with active leg ulcers. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: a total of 91.7% of the participants had sickle cell anemia, with a median of three years of ulcer existence; 77.8% were recurrent; 40.3% bought the supplies; 66.7% changed their own dressings at home; 52.8% did one or more changes a day; 45.8% of the treatments were prescribed by physician; 37.5% were ointments (collagenase or antibiotics); and 89% did not use compression to manage edema. Conclusion: most of the participants were not included in the Health Care Network for ulcer treatment and did not receive systematized care or appropriate supplies.


Objetivo: identificar el lugar y los cuidados directos recibidos por personas con úlceras de pierna por enfermedad falciforme en los servicios de atención a la salud. Método: estudio transversal, realizado en 11 centros, en el período de agosto de 2019 a abril de 2020. Participaron 72 personas con úlcera de pierna activa. El estudio fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética en Investigación. Resultado: presentaban anemia falciforme 91,7% de los participantes, con una mediana de tres años de existencia de la úlcera; 77,8% eran recidivantes; 40,3% compraban los insumos; 66,7% cambiaban su propio vendaje en el domicilio; 52,8% realizaban uno o más cambios diarios; 45,8% de los tratamientos fueron prescritos por el médico; 37,5% eran pomada (colagenasa o antibiótico); y 89% no utilizaban compresión para el manejo del edema. Conclusión: la mayoría de los participantes no estaba integrada en la Red de Atención a la Salud para el tratamiento de la úlcera, y no recibía asistencia sistematizada ni insumos apropiados.

In the human brain, palmitic acid (16:0; PAM) comprises nearly half of total brain saturates and has been identified as the third most abundant fatty acid overall. Brain PAM supports the structure of membrane phospholipids, provides energy, and regulates protein stability. Sources underlying the origin of brain PAM are both diet and endogenous synthesis via de novo lipogenesis (DNL), primarily from glucose. However, studies investigating the origin of brain PAM are limited to tracer studies utilizing labelled (14C/11C/3H/2H) PAM, and results vary based on the model and tracer used. Nevertheless, there is evidence PAM is synthesized locally in the brain, in addition to obtained directly from the diet. Herein, we provide an overview of brain PAM origin, entry to the brain, metabolic fate, and factors influencing brain PAM kinetics and levels, the latter in the context of age, as well as neurological diseases and psychiatric disorders. Additionally, we briefly summarize the role of PAM in signaling at the level of the brain. We add to the literature a rudimentary summary on brain PAM metabolism.

AIMS: To evaluate where orthodontic research papers are published and to explore potential relationships between the journal of publication and the characteristics of the research study and authorship. METHODS: An online literature search of seven research databases was undertaken to identify orthodontic articles published in English language over a 12-month period (1 January-31 December 2022) (last search: 12 June 2023). Data extracted included journal, article, and author characteristics. Journal legitimacy was assessed using a ternary classification scheme including available blacklists and whitelists, cross-checking of indexing claims and history of sending unsolicited emails. The level of evidence (LOE) of all included studies was assessed using a modified Oxford LOE classification scale. Univariable and multivariable ordinal logistic regression analyses were performed to examine possible associations between the level of evidence, journal discipline, and authorship characteristics. RESULTS: A total of 753 studies, published by 246 unique journal titles, were included and further assessed. Nearly two-thirds of orthodontic papers were published in non-orthodontic journals (62.8%) and over half (55.6%) of the articles were published in open-access policy journals. About a fifth of the articles (21.2%) were published either in presumed predatory journals or in journals of uncertain legitimacy. Journal discipline was significantly associated with the level of evidence. Higher-quality orthodontic studies were more likely published in established orthodontic journals (likelihood ratio test P < .001). LIMITATIONS: The identification and classification of predatory journals are challenging due to their covert nature. CONCLUSIONS: The majority of orthodontic articles were published in non-orthodontic journals. In addition, approximately one in five orthodontic studies were published in presumed predatory journals or in journals of uncertain legitimacy. Studies with higher levels of evidence were more likely to be published in established orthodontic journals.

BACKGROUND: Elevated serum immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) concentrations are one of the characteristic findings in IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD). This study investigated the frequency of elevated serum IgG4 levels and associated factors in a general Japanese population. METHODS: Serum IgG4 concentrations were measured in 1,201 residents of Ishikawa prefecture who underwent general medical examinations. Factors associated with elevated serum IgG4 concentrations were assessed by logistic regression analysis. Participants with elevated serum IgG4 were subjected to secondary examinations. RESULTS: The mean serum IgG4 concentration was 44 mg/dL, with 42 (3.5%) participants having elevated serum IgG4 levels. Age- and sex-adjusted logistic regression analyses showed that male sex, older age, and lower intake of lipids and polyunsaturated fatty acids and higher intake of carbohydrates in daily diet were associated with elevated serum IgG4 concentration. Subgroup analyses in men showed that older age, lower estimated glomerular filtration rates based on serum cystatin C (eGFR-cysC) levels, and higher hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels were associated with elevated serum IgG4 concentration. Analyses in women showed that lower intake of lipids and fatty acids and higher intake of carbohydrates were significantly associated with elevated serum IgG4 concentration. One of the 15 participants who underwent secondary examinations was diagnosed with possible IgG4-related retroperitoneal fibrosis. CONCLUSIONS: Elevated serum IgG4 levels in a Japanese general population were significantly associated with older age, male gender, and dietary intake of nutrients, with some of these factors identical to the epidemiological features of IgG4-RD.

Introduction and importance: Hyper-IgE syndrome (HIES), also known as Job syndrome, is a rare immunodeficiency disorder characterized by elevated immunoglobulin E levels and recurrent infections. Diagnosing and managing HIES in resource-limited settings is challenging due to the lack of advanced diagnostic tools. This report highlights the necessity of clinical evaluation and basic laboratory investigations for diagnosing HIES. Case presentation: A 3-year-old male presented with fever, cough, and widespread pustular lesions. He had a history of recurrent respiratory infections and otitis media. Physical examination revealed characteristic facial features, skin findings, and laboratory investigations showed elevated immunoglobulin E levels (>3000 IU/ml) and leukocytosis. A clinical diagnosis of HIES was made, and the patient responded well to antibiotics, antihistamines, and topical steroids. Clinical discussion: HIES is caused by genetic mutations affecting immune function, primarily involving STAT3 and DOCK8 genes. Diagnosis in resource-limited settings relies on clinical features and basic investigations. Challenges include the unavailability of genetic testing. Management includes antibiotics and symptomatic relief adapted to available resources. Conclusion: Diagnosing and managing HIES in resource-limited settings requires adaptation of clinical approaches to available resources. This case underscores the importance of clinical vigilance and basic diagnostic tools in diagnosing rare immunodeficiencies.

Objectives: Iron is recognized as a significant contributor to oxidative damage, and its levels tend to rise with age, potentially worsening age-related diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of serum iron metabolism markers in the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Methods: The files of all AMD patients in Kocaeli University School of Medicine between January 2017 and March 2020 were reviewed retrospectively. By examining the files of AMD patients who applied to the eye outpatient clinic on the same dates, those dry AMD (dAMD) and neovascular AMD (nAMD) were recorded. As a control group, the records of patients without any AMD findings were obtained from the files of all patients who visited the clinic during the same time period. All records were recorded for analysis, including a comprehensive ophthalmological examination, laboratory data of fasting blood tests, and an internal medicine outpatient examination. Results: Of the 164 participants, 50 were dAMD patients, 51 were nAMD patients, and 63 were patients non-AMD (control group). There was a significant difference between the groups' mean corpuscular volume (MCV), serum ferritin, and total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) (p<0.050). It was observed that the ferritin of those with AMD was significantly higher than the control group, whereas MCV and TIBC were found to be significantly lower (p<0.050). There was no significant difference in serum iron marker levels between nAMD and dAMD patients (p>0.05). Conclusion: Assessing serum iron status indicators during the routine monitoring of AMD may provide insights into the associated risk profile of the condition.

Recently, hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PH) inhibitors have been used for renal anemia, but side effects have also been reported. We report on the association of central hypothyroidism and cholesterol with roxadustat. Based on this case and previous reports, we believe that patients receiving roxadustat should have their thyroid function and cholesterol levels checked regularly.

Engaging in phone conversations or other cognitively challenging tasks while driving detrimentally impacts cognitive functions and has been associated with increased risk of accidents. Existing EEG methods have been shown to differentiate between load and no load, but not between different levels of cognitive load. Furthermore, it has not been investigated whether EEG measurements of load can be used to predict safety outcomes in critical events. EEG microstates analysis, categorizing EEG signals into a concise set of prototypical functional states, has been used in other task contexts with good results, but has not been applied in the driving context. Here, this gap is addressed by means of a driving simulation experiment. Three phone use conditions (no phone use, hands-free, and handheld), combined with two task difficulty levels (single- or double-digit addition and subtraction), were tested before and during a rear-end collision conflict. Both conventional EEG spectral power and EEG microstates were analyzed. The results showed that different levels of cognitive load influenced EEG microstates differently, while EEG spectral power remained unaffected. A distinct EEG pattern emerged when drivers engaged in phone tasks while driving, characterized by a simultaneous increase and decrease in two of the EEG microstates, suggesting a heightened focus on auditory information, potentially at a cost to attention reorientation ability. The increase and decrease in these two microstates follow a monotonic sequence from baseline to hands-free simple, hands-free complex, handheld simple, and finally handheld complex, showing sensitivity to task difficulty. This pattern was found both before and after the lead vehicle braked. Furthermore, EEG microstates prior to the lead vehicle braking improved predictions of safety outcomes in terms of minimum time headway after the lead vehicle braked, clearly suggesting that these microstates measure brain states which are indicative of impaired driving. Additionally, EEG microstates are more predictive of safety outcomes than task difficulty, highlighting individual differences in task effects. These findings enhance our understanding of the neural dynamics involved in distracted driving and can be used in methods for evaluating the cognitive load induced by in-vehicle systems.

Environmental pollutants capable of interfering with the thyroid hormone (TH) system increasingly raise concern for both human and environmental health. Recently, resorcinol has received attention as a compound of concern due to its endocrine disrupting properties. It is a known inhibitor of thyroperoxidase (TPO), an enzyme required in TH synthesis, and therapeutic use of resorcinol exposure has led to hypothyroidism in humans. There is limited evidence concerning ecotoxicologically relevant effects of resorcinol in fish. A set of adverse outcome pathways (AOPs) has recently been developed linking thyroid hormone system disruption (THSD) to impaired swim bladder inflation and eye development in fish. In the present study, these AOPs were used to provide the background for testing potential THSD effects of resorcinol in zebrafish eleutheroembryos. We exposed zebrafish eleutheroembryos to resorcinol and assessed TH levels, swim bladder inflation and eye morphology. As a TPO inhibitor, resorcinol is expected to affect TH levels and eye morphology but not swim bladder inflation during embryonic development. Indeed, thyroxine (T4) levels were significantly decreased following resorcinol exposure. In contrast to our hypothesis, swim bladder inflation was impaired at 5 days post fertilization (dpf) and no effects on eye morphology were detected. Therefore, in vitro assays were performed to identify potential additional thyroid hormone system disruption-related mechanisms through which resorcinol may act. Two new mechanisms were identified: TH receptor (TR) antagonism and transthyretin (TTR) binding inhibition. Both of these mechanisms can plausibly be linked to impaired swim bladder inflation and could, therefore, explain the observed effect. Overall, our study contributes to the knowledge of the THSD potential of resorcinol both in vivo in the zebrafish model as well as in vitro.

BACKGROUND: Asymptomatic carriage of infected red blood cells (iRBCs) can be prevalent in communities regardless of transmission patterns and can occur with infection of different Plasmodium species. Clinical immunity dampens the inflammatory responses leading to disease symptoms in malaria. The aim of this study was to define the immunological correlates of asymptomatic carriage of Plasmodium falciparum in a highly exposed population. METHODS: 142 asymptomatic Plasmodium-infected individuals greater than 2 years of age without fever (body temperature <37.5 ℃) were followed weekly for 10 weeks before being treated with artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT). Plasma levels of 38 cytokines were measured at baseline by Luminex and the quantity and growth inhibitory activities of circulating parasite-reactive antibodies measured. The Plasmodium antigen tested included P. falciparum merozoite extract (ME) and schizont extract (SE), and the recombinant proteins erythrocyte binding antigen 175 (EBA-175) and merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP-119). RESULTS: Median levels of IgG against P. falciparum EBA-175 and MSP-119 at baseline were significantly higher in those older than 20 years of age compared with the younger age group and appeared to correlate with better parasite control. Amongst all participants there were no discernible changes in IgG levels over time. Parasite density was higher in the younger age group and associated with IL-10, TNF and MCP-1 levels. A balanced IL-10:TNF ratio was associated with asymptomatic malaria regardless of age, and balanced ratios of IL-10/TNF and IL-10/IFN-γ were the only significant correlate of maintenance of asymptomatic malaria over the course of the study in individuals 20 years of age and younger. CONCLUSION: The above findings indicate that asymptomatic carriage of P. falciparum in children living in a hyperendemic area occurs independently of IgG but is associated with a balanced inflammatory cytokine ratio.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Peganum harmala L., a traditional Uyghur ethnic medicine widely used in China, is commonly used in the treatment of conditions such as hemiplegia, forgetfulness, cough, and asthma. Harmine and other ß-carboline alkaloids, one of the main active ingredients in P. harmala, have exhibited various pharmacological activities, including anti-Alzheimer's, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. However, the effects and underlying mechanisms of harmine on improving ethanol-induced memory impairment remain unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aimed to investigate the effects of harmine on ameliorating ethanol-induced memory impairment, and to explore potential mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ethanol (30%, i. g.) was used to induce memory impairment model. The effect of harmine on memory impairment was evaluated by Morris water maze (MWM). The histopathological analysis, immunofluorescence staining, RT-qPCR and UHPLC-MS/MS methods were performed to further investigate the underlying mechanisms. RESULTS: MWM experiments showed that harmine significantly improved ethanol-induced spatial learning memory deficit. Harmine exhibited anti-inflammatory effect by downregulating inflammatory factors such as IL-6, IL-1ß and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) induced by ethanol. Harmine also upregulated brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels to exert neuroprotective effect. Moreover, harmine protected neuronal cells and increased the protein expression of myelin basic protein (MBP). The cellular results indicated that harmine protected SH-SY5Y cells from ethanol-induced cytotoxicity and upregulated the relative mRNA expression of synaptosome associated protein 25 (SNAP25), syntaxin 1 A (STX1A), vesicle associated membrane protein 2 (VAMP2), synaptotagmin 1 (SYT1) and synaptophysin (SYP). CONCLUSIONS: Harmine improved ethanol-induced memory impairment by ameliorating inflammation, increasing BDNF levels, promoting synaptic vesicle fusion, protecting myelin sheath, and modulating neurotransmitter levels. These findings provided a scientific basis for development of therapeutic drugs for alcohol-induced memory impairments and other related disorders.

INTRODUCTION: The establishment of diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) is challenge for interventional neuroradiology (INR) due to the complexity and variability of its procedures. OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this systematic review is to analyse and compare DRLs in fluoroscopy-guided procedures in INR. METHODS: An observational study reporting DRLs in INR procedures, specifically cerebral arteriography, cerebral aneurysm embolisation, cerebral thrombectomy, embolisation of arteriovenous malformations (AVM), arteriovenous fistulas (AVF), retinoblastoma embolisation, and spinal cord arteriography. Comprehensive literature searches for relevant studies published between 2017 and 2023 were conducted using the Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases. RESULTS: A total of 303 articles were identified through an extensive literature search, with 159 removed due to duplication. The title and abstract of 144 studies were assessed and excluded if they did not meet the inclusion criteria. Thirty-one out of the 144 articles were selected for a thorough full-text screening. Twenty-one articles were included in the review after the complete text screening. CONCLUSION: The different conditions of patients undergoing INR procedures pose a barrier to the standardization of DRLs; nevertheless, they are extremely important for monitoring and optimising radiological practices.

BACKGROUND: Anorexia nervosa is a serious and potentially lethal psychiatric disorder. Furthermore, there is significant evidence that some individuals develop a very long-standing form of the illness that requires a variety of different treatment interventions over time. OBJECTIVE: The primary goal of this paper was to provide a review of treatment strategies for severe and enduring anorexia nervosa (SE-AN) with the particular focus on treatments involving hospital care. Additionally, we wish to highlight a contemporary approach to such care and provide qualitative reactions to this model from both staff and patients. METHODS: A selective and strategic review of the treatment literature for SE-AN was conducted for the current paper. Emphasis was placed on clinical or scientific papers related to hospital-based care. Additionally, staff who work on a specific inpatient eating disorder unit with a substantial treatment program for SE-AN, along with a number of SE-AN patients were surveyed regarding their experiences working on, or receiving treatment on the unit. Importantly, the staff of this unit created a specific treatment protocol for individuals receiving hospital care. The results of the highlight both advantages and challenges of a hospital-based protocol oriented toward emphasizing quality of life, medical stability, and a health-promoting meal plan. DISCUSSION: While there is general inconsistency with the type of treatment that is best suited to individuals with SE-AN, this is particularly true for higher levels of care that rely on inpatient hospital units or residential treatment settings. This is a highly significant clinical topic in need of further clinical and scientific examination.


Anorexia nervosa is a serious illness which often persists for decades. Treatments for persistent anorexia nervosa are not well defined and there is considerable debate in the field about appropriate types of treatment strategies for these individuals. Such clinical uncertainty is particularly noteworthy in terms of the most appropriate types of care for these patients when they are hospitalized, which happens relatively frequently. Greater efforts are needed to develop inpatient programs for SE-AN that take into consideration their unique clinical needs.

BACKGROUND: High levels of catecholamines are cardiotoxic and associated with stress-induced cardiomyopathies. Using a septic shock model that reproduces the reversible cardiomyopathy seen over 10 days associated with human septic shock, we investigated the effects of catecholamines on microcirculatory perfusion and cardiac dysfunction. METHODS AND RESULTS: Purpose-bred beagles received intrabronchial Staphylococcus aureus (n=30) or saline (n=6). The septic animals were than randomized to epinephrine (1 µg/kg per minute, n=15) or saline (n=15) infusions from 4 to 44 hours. Serial cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, catecholamine levels, and troponins were collected over 92 hours. Serial adenosine-stress perfusion cardiac magnetic resonance imaging was performed on septic animals randomized to receive saline (n=8 out of 15) or epinephrine (n=8 out of 15). High-dose sedation was given to suppress endogenous catecholamine release. Despite catecholamine levels largely remaining within the normal range throughout, by 48 hours, septic animals receiving saline versus nonseptic animals still developed significant worsening of left ventricular ejection fraction, circumferential strain, and ventricular-aortic coupling. In septic animals that received epinephrine versus saline infusions, plasma epinephrine levels increased 800-fold, but epinephrine produced no significant further worsening of left ventricular ejection fraction, circumferential strain, or ventricular-aortic coupling. Septic animals receiving saline had a significant increase in microcirculatory reserve without troponin elevations. Septic animals receiving epinephrine had decreased edema, blunted microcirculatory perfusion, and elevated troponin levels that persisted for hours after the epinephrine infusion stopped. CONCLUSIONS: Cardiac dysfunction during sepsis is not primarily due to elevated endogenous or exogenous catecholamines nor due to decreased microvascular perfusion-induced ischemia. However, epinephrine itself has potentially harmful long-lasting ischemic effects during sepsis including impaired cardiac microvascular perfusion that persists after stopping the infusion.

Objectives: Analyzing and comparing COVID-19 infection and case-fatality rates across different regions can help improve our response to future pandemics. Methods: We used public data from the WHO to calculate and compare the COVID-19 infection and case-fatality rates in different continents and income levels from 2019 to 2023. Results: The Global prevalence of COVID-19 increased from 0.011 to 0.098, while case fatality rates declined from 0.024 to 0.009. Europe reported the highest cumulative infection rate (0.326), with Africa showing the lowest (0.011). Conversely, Africa experienced the highest cumulative case fatality rates (0.020), with Oceania the lowest (0.002). Infection rates in Asia showed a steady increase in contrast to other continents which observed initial rises followed by decreases. A correlation between economic status and infection rates was identified; high-income countries had the highest cumulative infection rate (0.353) and lowest case fatality rate (0.006). Low-income countries showed low cumulative infection rates (0.006) but the highest case fatality rate (0.016). Initially, high and upper-middle-income countries experienced elevated initial infection and case fatality rates, which subsequently underwent significant reductions. Conclusions: COVID-19 rates varied significantly by continent and income level. Europe and the Americas faced surges in infections and low case fatality rates. In contrast, Africa experienced low infection rates and higher case fatality rates, with lower- and middle-income nations exceeding case fatality rates in high-income countries over time.

Syrian hamsters are valuable models for studying lipid metabolism due to their sensitivity to dietary cholesterol, yet the precise impact of varying cholesterol levels has not been comprehensively assessed. This study examined the impact of varying dietary cholesterol levels on lipid metabolism in Syrian hamsters. Diets ranging from 0% to 1% cholesterol were administered to assess lipid profiles and oxidative stress markers. Key findings indicate specific cholesterol thresholds for inducing distinct lipid profiles: below 0.13% for normal lipids, 0.97% for elevated LDL-C, 0.43% for increased VLDL-C, and above 0.85% for heightened hepatic lipid accumulation. A cholesterol supplementation of 0.43% induced hypercholesterolemia without adverse liver effects or abnormal lipoprotein expression. Furthermore, cholesterol supplementation significantly increased liver weight, plasma total cholesterol, LDL-C, and VLDL-C levels while reducing the HDL-C/LDL-C ratio. Fecal cholesterol excretion increased, with stable bile acid levels. High cholesterol diets correlated with elevated plasma ALT activities, reduced hepatic lipid peroxidation, and altered leptin and CETP levels. These findings underscore Syrian hamsters as robust models for hyperlipidemia research, offering insights into experimental methodologies. The identified cholesterol thresholds facilitate precise lipid profile manipulation, enhancing the hamster's utility in lipid metabolism studies and potentially informing clinical approaches to managing lipid disorders.

Early detection of recurrent cervical cancer is important to improve survival rates. The aim of this study was to explore the clinical performance of DNA methylation markers and high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) in cervicovaginal self-samples and urine for the detection of recurrent cervical cancer. Cervical cancer patients without recurrence (n = 47) collected cervicovaginal self-samples and urine pre- and posttreatment. Additionally, 20 patients with recurrent cervical cancer collected cervicovaginal self-samples and urine at time of recurrence. All samples were self-collected at home and tested for DNA methylation and high-risk HPV DNA by PCR. In patients without recurrent cervical cancer, DNA methylation levels decreased 2-years posttreatment compared to pretreatment in cervicovaginal self-samples (p < .0001) and urine (p < .0001). DNA methylation positivity in cervicovaginal self-samples was more frequently observed in patients with recurrence (77.8%) than in patients without recurrence 2-years posttreatment (25.5%; p = .0004). Also in urine, DNA methylation positivity was more frequently observed in patients with recurrence (65%) compared to those without recurrence (35.6%; p = .038). Similarly, high-risk HPV positivity in both cervicovaginal self-samples and urine was more frequent (52.6% and 55%, respectively) in patients with recurrence compared to patients without recurrence (14.9% and 8.5%, respectively) (p = .004 and p = .0001). In conclusion, this study shows the potential of posttreatment monitoring of cervical cancer patients for recurrence by DNA methylation and high-risk HPV testing in cervicovaginal and urine samples collected at home. The highest recurrence detection rate was achieved by DNA methylation testing in cervicovaginal self-samples, detecting 77.8% of all recurrences and, specifically, 100% of the local recurrences.

The poor lighting environment in the underground coal mine is easy to cause the miners to have psychological irritability, which leads to the occurrence of accidents. In order to reduce the incidence of accidents and ensure the personal safety of miners. In this paper, different illumination levels are used as control variables. With the help of cognitive ability tests commonly used in psychology, accuracy(AC), reaction time(RT)and performance indicators(PI) are selected to describe how different illumination levels affect the psychological state of miners. The results show that: (1) In the two selected cognitive ability test tasks, when the illumination level is very low, the AC is not high and the RT is longer. As the illumination increases, the AC in the cognitive test task becomes higher and the RT becomes faster. The optimal value is reached at 200lux-300lux.At this time, the illumination level increases again, the AC value decreases, and the RT value increases. When the illuminance is lower than 200Lux, the results of the two tasks are not the same, but when 200Lux∼300Lux, the PI values are larger, and then increase the illuminance, the PI value decreases. (2)The regression analysis of three indicators and illuminance level was carried out, and the binary linear regression equation of different illuminance levels and PI/RT was established to monitor the influence of illuminance on the psychological state of miners. (3) Reasonable control of lighting environment can effectively promote the cognitive ability of miners in the work, and minimize the risk of coal mine accidents.

To investigate the influences of dietary protein and lipid levels on the growth, feed utilization, morphometric parameters, body composition, serum biochemical parameters, and lipid metabolism of golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus), nine test diets containing three protein levels (35%, 40%, and 45%) and three lipid levels (8%, 13%, and 18%) were designed in the present study. Each diet (named D1-D9) was randomly assigned to feed triplicate groups of golden pompano juvenile (initial weight ~ 70 g) for 50 days. The results showed that the dietary lipid levels positively correlated with weight gain, specific growth rate, and protein efficiency ratio (PER), suggesting that the high lipid diets (18%) can be efficiently utilized in this fish species. The dietary protein levels have no significant influences on the growth and feed utilization except for the PER. Increasing dietary protein levels resulted in a decrease in hepatosomatic index (HSI), viscerosomatic index (VSI), and intestinal somatic index (ISI), while the dietary lipid level did not have a significant impact on morphological indices except for ISI. The dietary protein and lipid levels had no significant influences on the contents of crude lipid, crude ash, and moisture of whole body, while the crude protein contents was significantly affected by the dietary protein levels. Serum biochemical indexes, including cholesterol (CHO), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), as well as HDL/LDL ratio were significantly affected by the dietary lipid levels, but not by the dietary protein levels. The expression levels of genes and their associated proteins involved in hepatic lipogenesis (Srebp-1c and Fas) and fatty acids ß-oxidation (Pparα and Cpt-1) were up-regulated with increasing dietary lipid levels, while the former was up-regulated, and the latter was down-regulated with increasing dietary protein levels. Considering the present results in terms of growth performance, feed utilization, morphometric parameters, and lipid metabolism, the recommended dietary protein and lipid levels for golden pompano are 40% and 18%, respectively. The findings suggested that this species exhibits a significant protein-sparing effect on lipid utilization.
