RESUMO

Graphite phase carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a highly promising metal-free photocatalyst. However, its applicability is restricted by low activity, due to weak quantum efficiency and small specific surface area. Exfoliating bulk crystals into porous thin-layer nanosheets and introducing element doping have been shown to improve photocatalytic efficiency, but these methods are often complex, time-consuming, and costly processes. In this study, we successfully synthesized porous oxygen-doped g-C3N4 (OCN) nanosheets utilizing a straightforward method. Our findings show that OCN have much higher light absorption and visible-light photocatalytic activity than bulk g-C3N4 (BCN) and nonporous g-C3N4 (CN). The OCN photocatalyst has a remarkable hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) rate of 8.02 mmol·g-1 h-1, which is 8 times greater than BCN. Additionally, the OCN shows a high degradation rate of 97.3% for Rhodamine B (RhB). This enhanced photocatalytic activity is ascribed to the narrow band gap and superior electron transfer capacity. Our findings suggest a potential technique for generating efficient g-C3N4 photocatalysts.

RESUMO

Here, a rechargeable carbon fluoride battery is demonstrated with unprecedented high rate and long life by oxygen doping and electrolyte formulation. The introductions of Mn2+-O catalyst and porous structure during the oxidation process of CFx cathode can promote the splitting of Li-F during charging. By further modulating the electrolyte with triphenylantimony chloride (TSbCl) as anion acceptor and CsF as product modulator, the more readily dissociable CsLiF2 product instead of LiF is preferentially formed, and the TSbCl-salt protection interface is constructed to confine Li-F based products and reduce fluoride loss at cathode side. These effects endow Li-CFx batteries with durable reversible conversion reaction (for at least 600 cycles), ultrahigh rate performance (e.g., 364 mAh g-1 at 20 A g-1) and low charging plateau voltage down to 3.2 V. The cathode exhibits the maximum power density of 38342 W kg-1 and energy density of 1012 Wh kg-1. Furthermore, this Li-CFx system demonstrates the promising prospects for applications in view of its low temperature operation (e.g., 280 mAh g-1 at -20 °C), low self-discharge ability, large-scale pouch cell fabrication and high cathode loading (5-6 mg cm-2), enabling it to move beyond previous role as primary battery and into new role as fast-charging rechargeable battery with high energy density.

RESUMO

The development of electrocatalysts with low cost, high efficiency, and long-term durability is crucial for advancing green hydrogen production. Transition metal phosphides (TMPs) have been proved to be efficient electrocatalyst, while the improvement in the performance and durability of the TMPs remains a big challenge. Employing atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD) and phosphorization, FeP/Ti electrodes are fabricated featuring controllable oxygen ingredients (O-FeP/Ti). This manipulation of oxygen content fine-tunes the electronic structure of the catalyst, resulting in improved surface reaction kinetics and catalytic activity. The optimized O-FeP-400/Ti exhibits outstanding HER activity with overpotentials of 142 and 159 mV at -10 mA cm-2 in 0.5 M H2SO4 and 1 M KOH, respectively. Notably, the obtained O-FeP/Ti cathode also displays remarkable durability of up to 200 h in acidic electrolyte with surface topography remaining intact. For the first time, the low-valence titanium oxide (Ti3O) interlayer is identified in the composite electrode and ascribed for the superior connection between Ti substrate and the surface O-FeP catalyst, as supported by experimental results and density functional theory (DFT) analysis. This work has expanded the potential applications of transition metal phosphides (TMPs) as a cost-effective, highly efficient and durable catalyst for water splitting.

RESUMO

Phase-change random access memory represents a notable advancement in nonvolatile memory technology; however, it faces challenges in terms of thermal stability and reliability, hindering its broader application. To mitigate these issues, doping and structural modification techniques such as phase-change heterostructures (PCH) are widely studied. Although doping typically enhances thermal stability, it can adversely affect the switching speed. Structural modifications such as PCH have struggled to sustain stable performance under high atmospheric conditions. In this study, these challenges are addressed by synergizing oxygen-doped Sb2Te3 (OST) with PCH technology. This study presents a novel approach in which OST significantly improves the crystallization temperature, power efficiency, and cyclability. Subsequently, the integration of the PCH technology bolsters the switching speed and further amplifies the device's reliability and endurance by refining the grain size (≈7 nm). The resultant OST-PCH devices exhibit exceptional performance metrics, including a drift coefficient of 0.003 in the RESET state, endurance of ≈4 × 108 cycles, an switching speed of 300 ns, and 67.6 pJ of RESET energy. These findings suggest that the OST-PCH devices show promise for integration into embedded systems, such as those found in automotive applications and Internet of Things devices.

RESUMO

Metal-free carbon catalysts (MFCCs) are one of the commonly used catalysts for electrocatalytic two-electron oxygen reduction (2e- ORR) synthesis of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Oxygen doping is an effective means to improve the performance of MFCCs, but the performance of oxygen-doped carbon catalysts is still not high enough, and the contribution of different oxygen functional groups (OFGs) to the catalytic performance is still inconclusive. In this paper, carbon-based catalysts with different oxygen contents and ratios of OFGs were prepared, and the high 2e- ORR activity of COOH + C-OH was demonstrated by combining the results of experiments and theoretical calculations. The prepared oxygen-doped carbon-based catalyst C-0.1M80 achieved an onset potential of 0.795 V (vs RHE), a selectivity of up to 98.2% (0.6 V vs RHE), and a H2O2 oxidation current of 1.33 mA cm-2 (0.5 V vs RHE) in a rotating ring-disk electrode test (0.1 M KOH solution), which was an outstanding performance in MFCCs. In a solid electrolyte flow cell, C-0.1M80 achieved a Faraday efficiency of 97.5% at 200 mA cm-2 with a corresponding H2O2 production rate of 123.7 mg cm-2 h-1. In addition, a flow cell stability test was performed at an industrial current density (100 mA cm-2) with an astounding 200 h of uninterrupted operation, also achieving an outstanding average Faradaic efficiency (95.8%).

RESUMO

Establishing an effective metal-free photocatalyst for sustainable applications remains a huge challenge. Herein, we developed ultrathin oxygen-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets with carbon defects (OCvN) photocatalyst via a facile gas bubble template-assisted thermal copolymerization method. A series of OCvN with different dopant amounts ranging from 0 to 10% were synthesized and used as photocatalysts under illumination of low-power (2 × 18 W, 0.18 mW/cm2) and commercially available energy-saving light bulbs. Upon testing for photocatalytic Escherichia coli inactivation, the best-performing sample, OCvN-3, demonstrated an astonishing disinfection activity of over 7-log reduction after 3 h of illumination, boasting an 18-fold improvement in its antibacterial activity compared to that of pristine g-C3N4. The enhanced performance was attributed to the synergistic effects of increased surface area, extended visible light harvesting, improved electronic conductivity, and ultralow resistance to charge transfer. This study successfully introduced a green photocatalyst that demonstrates the most effective disinfection performance ever recorded among metal-free g-C3N4 materials. Its disinfection capabilities are comparable to those of metal-based photocatalysts when they are exposed to low-power light.

RESUMO

Photocatalytic degradation of pollutants is considered a promising approach for wastewater treatment, but is hampered by low efficiency and limited understanding of degradation pathways. A novel oxygen-doped porous g-C3N4/oxygen vacancies-rich BiOCl (OCN/OVBOC) heterostructure was prepared for photocatalytic degradation of bisphenol A (BPA). The synergistic defect and doping engineering favor the formation of strong bonded interface for S-scheme mechanism. Among them, 0.3 OCN/OVBOC showed the most excellent degradation rate, which was 8 times and 4 times higher than that of pure g-C3N4 and BiOCl, respectively. This excellent performance is mainly attributed to the significantly enhanced charge separation via strong bonded interface and redox capability of the S-scheme heterojunction structure, by tuning the coordination excitation and electron localization of the catalyst via O doping and vacancies. This work provides important insights into the role of synergistic defect and doping engineering in facilitating the formation of strong bonded S-scheme heterojunction and ultimately sheds new light on the design of efficient photocatalysts.

RESUMO

Oxygen doping strategy is one of the most effective methods to improve the electrochemical properties of nickel-cobalt phosphide (NiCoP)-based capacitors by adjusting its inherent electronic structure. In this paper, O-doped NiCoP microspheres derived from porous nanostructured nickel metal-organic frameworks (Ni-MOFs) were constructed through solvothermal method followed by phosphorization treatment. The O-doping concentration has a siginificant influence on the rate performance and cycle stability. The optimized O-doped NiCoP electrode material shows a specific capacitance of 632.4 F-g-1at 1 A-g-1and a high retention rate of 56.9% at 20 A g-1. The corresponding NiCoP-based asymmetric supercapacitor exhibits a high energy density of 30.1 Wh kg-1when the power density is 800.9 W kg-1, and can still maintain 82.1% of the initial capacity after 10 000 cycles at 5 A g-1.

RESUMO

Effective degradation methods are required to address the issue of antibiotics as organic pollutants in water resources. Herein, a two-stage thermal treatment method was used to prepare porous graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) modified with nitrogen vacancies and oxygen doping at the N-(C)3 position and deep in the g-C3N4 framework. Compared with bulk g-C3N4 (BCN) (7 ± 1 m2/g), the modified sample (RCN-2h) possesses a larger specific surface area (224 ± 1 m2/g), a larger bandgap (by 0.19 eV), and a mid-gap state. In addition, RCN-2h shows 15.4, 11.2, and 9.5 times higher photodegradation rates than BCN for the degradation of 100% ofloxacin (OFX) (within 15 min), tetracycline (within 15 min), and sulfadiazine (within 35 min), respectively. The RCN-2h catalyst also exhibits superior stability and reusability. Systematic characterization and density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the synergistic effect of the porous structure, nitrogen vacancies, and oxygen doping in RCN-2h provides additional reaction sites, improved charge separation efficiency, and shorter diffusion paths for reactants and photogenerated charge carriers. Trapping experiments reveal that •O2- is the main active species in OFX photodegradation, and a possible photodegradation pathway is identified using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Benefiting from the simplicity of synthesis methods and the superiority of elemental doping, carbon nitride materials with functional synergy have great potential for environmental applications.

RESUMO

To degrade the antiviral and antimalarial drug chloroquine phosphate (CQP), an oxygen doping MoS2 nanoflower (O-MoS2-230) co-catalyst was prepared by a hydrothermal method to construct an O-MoS2-230 co-catalytic Fenton system (O-MoS2-230/Fenton) without pH adjustment (initial pH 5.4). Remarkable CQP degradation efficiency (99.5 %) could be achieved in 10 min under suitable conditions ([co-catalyst] = 0.2 g L-1, [Fe2+]0 = 70 µM, [H2O2]0 = 0.4 mM) with a reaction rate constant of 0.24 min-1, which was 4.8 times that of MoS2 co-catalytic Fenton system (MoS2/Fenton). Compared to MoS2/Fenton, the system had 1.5 times more Fe2+ (28.4 µM) and showed a 24.0 % increase in H2O2 activation efficiency, reaching 50.0 %. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) determinations and active species trapping experimental data revealed that •OH and 1O2 were responsible for CQP degradation. The combination of experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculation demonstrates that O doping in MoS2 modifies the surface charge distribution, leading to an increase in its conductivity, thus accelerating the Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle and promoting reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Furthermore, O-MoS2-230/Fenton system exhibited excellent stability. This work reveals the degradation mechanism of accelerated Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle and abundant ROS in the O-MoS2-230/Fenton system and provides a promising technology for antibiotic pollutant degradation.

RESUMO

Oxygen doping is an effective strategy for constructing high-performance carbon anodes in Na ion batteries; however, current oxygen-doped carbons always exhibit low doping levels and high-defect surfaces, resulting in limited capacity improvement and low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE). Herein, a stainless steel-assisted high-energy ball milling is exploited to achieve high-level oxygen doping (19.33%) in the carbon framework. The doped oxygen atoms exist dominantly in the form of carbon-oxygen double bonds, supplying sufficient Na storage sites through an addition reaction. More importantly, it is unexpected that the random carbon layers on the surface are reconstructed into a quasi-ordered arrangement by robust mechanical force, which is low-defect and favorable for suppressing the formation of thick solid electrolyte interfaces. As such, the obtained carbon presents a large reversible capacity of 363 mAh g-1 with a high ICE up to 83.1%. In addition, owing to the surface-dominated capacity contribution, an ultrafast Na storage is achieved that the capacity remains 139 mAh g-1 under a large current density of 100 A g-1 . Such good Na storage performance, especially outstanding rate capability, has rarely been achieved before.

RESUMO

The high-valent cobalt-oxo species (Co(IV)=O) is being increasingly investigated for water purification because of its high redox potential, long half-life, and antiinterference properties. However, generation of Co(IV)=O is inefficient and unsustainable. Here, a cobalt-single-atom catalyst with N/O dual coordination was synthesized by O-doping engineering. The O-doped catalyst (Co-OCN) greatly activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and achieved a pollutant degradation kinetic constant of 73.12 min-1 g-2, which was 4.9 times higher than that of Co-CN (catalyst without O-doping) and higher than those of most reported single-atom catalytic PMS systems. Co-OCN/PMS realized Co(IV)=O dominant oxidation of pollutants by increasing the steady-state concentration of Co(IV)=O (1.03 × 10-10 M) by 5.9 times compared with Co-CN/PMS. A competitive kinetics calculation showed that the oxidation contribution of Co(IV)=O to micropollutant degradation was 97.5% during the Co-OCN/PMS process. Density functional theory calculations showed that O-doping influenced the charge density (increased the Bader charge transfer from 0.68 to 0.85 e), optimized the electron distribution of the Co center (increased the d-band center from -1.14 to -1.06 eV), enhanced the PMS adsorption energy from -2.46 to -3.03 eV, and lowered the energy barrier for generation of the key reaction intermediate (*O*H2O) during Co(IV)=O formation from 1.12 to 0.98 eV. The Co-OCN catalyst was fabricated on carbon felt for a flow-through device, which achieved continuous and efficient removal of micropollutants (degradation efficiency of >85% after 36 h operation). This study provides a new protocol for PMS activation and pollutant elimination through single-atom catalyst heteroatom-doping and high-valent metal-oxo formation during water purification.

RESUMO

Porous carbons are excellent sorbents for removing organic pollutants. Green conversion of biowaste into advanced porous carbons is crucial for industrialized production and practical applications, which, however, have rarely been investigated. This study develops a coassisted carbonization method for the preparation of porous carbons with the environmentally friendly agents HCOOK and (HCOO)2Ca for the first time. The bamboo waste-derived hydrochar was transformed into oxygen-doped porous carbons, which displayed a large surface area and pore volume, abundant oxygen content, graphene structure and many surface functional groups. These properties contributed to the extremely high sorption of large quantities of diethyl phthalate, which reached 761 mg g-1. Surface adsorption, including pore filling, hydrogen bonding, and π-π stacking, rather than partitioning, was the main sorption process. Therefore, this study provides a sustainable and promising route for the preparation of porous carbons that can be applied in the efficient removal of organic pollutants.

RESUMO

Lateral furan-expansion of polycyclic aromatics, which enables multiple O-doping and peripheral edge evolution of rylenes, is developed for the first time. Tetrafuranylperylene TPF-4CN and octafuranylquaterrylene OFQ-8CN were prepared as model compounds bearing unique fjord edge topology and helical conformations. Compared to TPF-4CN, the higher congener OFQ-8CN displays a largely red-shifted (≈333 nm) and intensified absorption band (λmax =829 nm) as well as a narrowed electrochemical band gap (≈1.08 eV) due to its pronounced π-delocalization and emerging of open-shell diradicaloid upon the increase of fjord edge length. Moreover, strong circular dichroism signals in a broad range until 900 nm are observed for open-shell chiral OFQ-8CN, owing to the excellent conformational stability of its central bis(tetraoxa[5]helicene) fragments. Our studies provide insights into the relationships between edge topologies and (chir)optoelectronic properties for this novel type of O-doped PAHs.

RESUMO

In this study, the production of activated carbon based on almond shells by microwave heating with KOH activation and then the modification of activated carbon with phosphorus and oxygen as a result of hydrothermal heating with phosphoric acid were carried out to increase the Cd(II) and Pb(II) adsorption efficiency. The resulting materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric/differential thermal analyzer (TG-DTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and nitrogen adsorption. Adsorption performance, kinetics and thermodynamics of phosphorus, and oxygen-doped activated carbons were evaluated. The results showed that the adsorption of both Cd(II) and Pb(II) on phosphorus and oxygen-doped activated carbons obeyed the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetics. The adsorption capacity values (Qm) obtained from the Langmuir isotherm for Cd(II) and Pb(II) adsorption were 185.18 mg/g and 54.64 mg/g, respectively. At the same time, the adsorption mechanism of Pb(II) and Cd(II) on the respective adsorbents was evaluated. As a result of phosphorus and oxygen atoms, Lewis base sites on carbon atoms and Lewis acid sites on phosphorus atoms are likely to form on the surface. These Lewis base sites can act as important active sites in adsorption reactions, especially of positively charged Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions.

RESUMO

Harnessing the fascinating properties of correlated oxides requires precise control of their carrier density. Compared to other methods, oxygen doping provides an effective and more direct way to tune the electronic properties of correlated oxides. Although several approaches, such as thermal annealing and oxygen migration, have been introduced to change the oxygen content, a continuous and reversible solution that can be integrated with modern electronic technology is much in demand. Here, we report a novel ionic field-effect transistor using solid Gd-doped CeO2 as the gate dielectric, which shows a remarkable carrier-density-tuning ability via electric-field-controlled oxygen concentration at room temperature. In Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi-2212) thin flakes, we achieve a reversible superconductor-insulator transition by driving oxygen ions in and out of the samples with electric fields, and map out the phase diagram all the way from the insulating regime to the over-doped superconducting regime by continuously changing the oxygen doping level. Scaling analysis indicates that the reversible superconductor-insulator transition for the Bi-2212 thin flakes follows the theoretical description of a two-dimensional quantum phase transition. Our work provides a route for realizing electric-field control of phase transition in correlated oxides. Moreover, the configuration of this type of transistor makes heterostructure/interface engineering possible, thus having the potential to serve as the next-generation all-solid-state field-effect transistor.

RESUMO

Transition metal thiophosphate, CuInP2S6 (CIPS), has recently emerged as a potentially promising material for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting due to its intrinsic ferroelectric polarization for spontaneous photocarrier separation. However, the poor kinetics of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) greatly limits its practical applications. Herein, we report self-enhancing photocatalytic behavior of a CIPS photocathode due to chemically driven oxygen incorporation by photoassisted acid oxidation. The optimal oxygen-doped CIPS demonstrates a >1 order of magnitude enhancement in the photocurrent density compared to that of pristine CIPS. Through comprehensive spectroscopic and microscopic investigations combined with theoretical calculations, we disclose that oxygen doping will lower the Fermi level position and decrease the HER barrier, which further accelerates charge separation and improves the HER activity. This work may deliver a universal and facile strategy for improving the PEC performance of other van der Waals metal thiophosphates.

RESUMO

A novel visible light emitting diode (LED) photocatalysis combined ultrafiltration (UF) system driven by metal-free O-doped C3N4 was established for sulfamethazine (SMZ) removal in environmental remediation. Among different O-doping ratios, 8%O-C3N4 exhibited the optimal SMZ degradation efficiency (89.36%) and the flux of 8%O-C3N4/LED/UF system could reach up to 38.92 L/m2/h. Benefitting from the O-doping, the synergetic effect of the expansion of visible-light absorption, enhancement of electron redox capacity, and improvement of e--h+ separation efficiency could produce the intensified photoactivity. Superoxide radical (O2•-) and single oxygen (1O2) were proved to be the primary active species by EPR and quenching tests. Moreover, the influence of several parameters such as photocatalyst dosage, SMZ concentration, raw turbidity and humic acid concentration in 8%O-C3N4/LED/UF system on SMZ removal were systematically studied. Under simulated surface water matrix, 8%O-C3N4/LED/UF system could also remove 96.88% SMZ and stable membrane flux stabilized as high as 33.36 L/m2/h. This study makes a demonstration for applying highly-effective powdery photocatalysts in the actual wastewater treatment and designing future photocatalytic reactors.

RESUMO

High energy density and long cycle life of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries suffer from the shuttle/expansion effect. Sufficient sulfur storage space, local fixation of polysulfides, and outstanding electrical conductivity are crucial for a robust cathode host. Herein, a modified template method is proposed to synthesize a highly regular and uniform nitrogen/oxygen dual-doped honeycomb-like carbon as sulfur host (N/O-HC-S). The unique structure not only offers physical entrapment for polysulfides (LiPSs) but also provides chemical adsorption and catalytic conversion sites of polysulfides. In addition, this structure offers enough space for loading sulfur, and a regular space of nanometer size can effectively prevent sulfur particles from accumulating. As expected, the as-prepared N/O-HC900-S with high areal sulfur loading (7.4 mg cm-2 ) shows a high areal specific capacity of 7.35 mAh cm-2 at 0.2 C. Theoretical calculations also reveal that the strong chemical immobilization and catalytic conversion of LiPSs attributed to the spin density and charge distribution of carbon atoms will be influenced by the neighbor nitrogen/oxygen dopants. This structure that provides cooperative chemical adsorption, high lithium ions flux, and catalytic conversion for LiPSs can offer a new strategy for constructing a polysulfide confinement structure to achieve robust Li-S batteries.

RESUMO

Chlorine-rich argyrodite-type solid electrolyte Li5.5PS4.5Cl1.5 has been a promising choice for solid-state batteries (SSBs) because of its ultrafast Li-ion conduction. However, the poor air/moisture stability and low electrochemical stability with pristine high-voltage cathodes hinder their applications. Herein, O-substituted Li5.5PS4.5-xOxCl1.5 (x = 0, 0.075, 0.175, and 0.25) solid electrolytes are successfully synthesized. Among them, Li5.5PS4.425O0.075Cl1.5 delivers high ionic conductivity, improved moisture resistance, and enhanced electrochemical stability in higher voltage windows. SSBs using Li5.5PS4.425O0.075Cl1.5 show higher capacities and superior cyclability than those using Li5.5PS4.5Cl1.5 combined with a pristine LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 cathode when operated at a high end-of-charge voltage of 4.5 V (vs Li+/Li0). Moreover, the batteries exhibit outstanding performance in a wide temperature range. This work provides a strategy to modify the inherent drawbacks of sulfide electrolytes, promoting their practical applications.
