BACKGROUND: Previous studies have reported varying levels of self-directed learning readiness and time management skills among nursing students, and the relationship between these two skills has not been extensively explored. Consequently, this study aimed to assess self-directed learning readiness and its influencing factors, with a specific emphasis on the role of time management skills among nursing students. METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved the participation of 110 undergraduate nursing students who were conveniently recruited for the research. The data collection tools included a demographic information form, Fisher's Self-Directed Learning Readiness questionnaire, and the Time Management Inventory developed by Britton and Tesser. The collected data were analyzed using STATA-14 statistical software. RESULTS: The findings revealed that 96.4% of the nursing students demonstrated readiness for self-directed learning. The mean overall score for self-directed learning readiness was 162.3 ± 6.1 out of 200, indicating a relatively high level of readiness. The mean score for time management skills was 98.1 ± 5.0 out of 135, suggesting satisfactory proficiency in this area. In terms of the relationship between self-directed learning readiness and its associated factors, time management skills, academic probation history, grade point average, place of residence, and level of interest in the field of study collectively accounted for 9.2% of the variance in self-directed learning readiness. Among these factors, academic probation history, grade point average, and place of residence emerged as statistically significant predictors (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The study findings indicate that the level of self-directed learning readiness and time management skills among the nursing students were considered acceptable. Academic probation history, grade point average, and place of residence emerged as significant predictors of self-directed learning readiness. These results highlight the importance of considering students' academic background and living conditions to effectively enhance their level of self-directed learning readiness. Further research is recommended to explore additional factors that may influence self-directed learning readiness among nursing students.

MRI is becoming increasingly available and more common. However, it is a long examination, within a limited space, and making strong demands on the patient for proper co-operation. Using survey data collected by prospective questionnaire, this work examines the influence of patient preparation and type of MRI device on patients' subjective perception of the examination. The work analysed 800 patient questionnaires from 7 radiology centres, 12 MRI machines from 3 manufacturers. It was shown that 20% of patients were not informed at all or only insufficiently about the MRI examination by the referring physician, and this had a statistically significant effect on subjective perception as to the length of the examination. In claustrophobic patients, there was no significant difference in the perception of MRI examination between machine types (open vs. closed) or between bore size. This work demonstrated the influence of technical parameters of MRI devices on some other evaluated aspects in terms of patients' perception of MRI examinations (such as noise perception or peripheral nerves irritation) and that the preparation prior to the examination itself plays also an important role. Sufficient explanation from the referring physician, good workplace time management, and sufficient communication with the patient influence the subjective perception of the examination and thus indirectly its diagnostic benefit.

BACKGROUND: Modern undergraduate nursing students face unique challenges as digital natives balancing internet activities with the substantial academic demands of nursing studies. Given the detrimental effects of internet addiction on students' academic performance and well-being, having time management skills is crucial. AIMS: To assess the prevalence and levels of internet addiction and time management and their association among undergraduate nursing students. DESIGN: A cross-sectional, survey-based research design was used. SETTING: The Faculty of Nursing at Alexandria University in Egypt. SUBJECTS: A stratified random sample consisting of 825 undergraduate nursing students. TOOLS: The internet addiction test and time management questionnaire were utilized to collect data. FINDINGS: Internet addiction was prevalent among 98.8% of students, with 56.0% exhibiting mild levels, 40.0% showing moderate levels, and 2.8% having severe levels. A statistically significant negative correlation was found between students' internet addiction and overall time management (r= - 0.387, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: A considerable level of internet addiction was revealed among the great majority of undergraduate nursing students; however, many students also demonstrated strong time management skills. Furthermore, internet addiction and overall time management were negatively associated, indicating that students with higher levels of internet addiction tend to have poorer time management abilities. RECOMMENDATIONS: Individual counseling and educational training programs should be developed to teach nursing students how to manage time and effectively plan internet usage.

Background: Several cross-sectional and longitudinal investigations have demonstrated a robust association between academic stress, physical activity, mental health history, and time management skills. However, the existing literature exhibits inconsistencies in the relationship between academic stress and its predictive effects on physical activity and mental health history. In addition, there is a scarcity of scholarly research that concentrates on the significance of time management skills within this particular context. Furthermore, limited research has investigated these variables' longitudinal associations and causal pathways. Therefore, the present research explores the longitudinal relationships among academic stress, physical activity, mental health history, and time management skills among university students. Methods: The data were gathered from Wuhan University, China, employing a two-wave longitudinal survey methodology with an annual interval. A cohort of 980 university-level students engaged in the completion of questionnaires, which encompassed measures of academic stress via the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA), physical activity ascertained through Cho's five-item questionnaire, mental health history assessed by the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, and time management skills evaluated using the Time Management Behaviour Scale (TMBS). Subsequently, a cross-lagged path model was utilised to examine the prospective associations among these constructs. Results: The outcomes of the cross-lagged path analysis indicated the presence of significant bidirectional relationships between academic stress and physical activity, mental health history, and time management skills. In addition, bidirectional interconnections existed between physical activity and mental health history. Furthermore, unilateral correlations were detected between physical activity and time management skills. Conclusions: These findings underscore the importance of an integrated approach to student health initiatives and highlight the need for comprehensive support systems that address student well-being's psychological and physical aspects.

Background: Teaching medical students in the clinical setting is frequently perceived as a demanding commitment by attending physicians. There is a paucity of data measuring the duration and efficacy of teaching during clinical rounds. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess both the quantity and quality of clinical teaching time dedicated to medical students on hospital ward rounds. Methods: A cross-sectional direct structured observational study was conducted during the morning rounds of attending physicians involved in teaching undergraduate medical students at three different clinical facilities in three different specialties. A validated observational tool was used by four observers to record teaching time and quality indicators. Results: In terms of teaching duration, it was observed that 25% of the total morning round time was allocated to teaching. However, this measure varied widely between different physicians and specialties. As for teaching quality, actions categorized as active teaching by the teachers were observed in 19% of the interactions observed per round, while active learning by the students was observed in 17% of the interactions per round. Teacher high-cognition interactions were similarly observed in 23% of actions per round, while student high-cognition interactions occurred in 16% of actions per round. Internal Medicine tended to score higher than both Pediatrics and Surgery in terms of percentage teaching time as well as percentage of active teaching observed per round. Using liberal criteria, rounds characterized overall as predominantly active or high-cognition by both teachers and students were observed in only 21% of the total number of rounds observed. Conclusion: These results indicate that the percentage of teaching time during ward rounds is highly variable, and that round teaching generally consists of passive and low-cognition interactions. Future work is needed to train clinical faculty to achieve a desired level of teaching quality, and to determine if there are any changes in teaching time commitments and student outcomes.

One of the key strategies for the success of health organizations currently resides in the ability to develop advanced competencies in time management. Individuals who are able to spend their time efficiently are those who do not focus on a single issue within the allotted time but rather spread their time among several tasks. This study aims to investigate the attitudes, beliefs and knowledge towards the time management of nurses (clinicians, first-line and middle-level nurse managers) in their daily work. A descriptive, cross-sectional survey was conducted in private and public settings across Italy. Time management was assessed using the University "G. D'Annunzio" of Chieti-Laboratory of Business Psychology's Questionnaire. Among the respondents (N = 74), 67.6% were female, and the age range was 51-60 years (40.5%). The three reported sections (Time management, Health conditions and Ability to delegate) showed several items with statistical significance (p < 0.05). Anxiety, stress and negative perceptions are statistically related to time management skills and knowledge. Healthcare institutions and regulatory bodies should provide resources and support to nurses and managers to improve their time management. The topic is of paramount importance and forms the basis of all work performed.

The present study investigated the relationship between smartphone distraction, academic procrastination, academic anxiety, and time management disposition. A total of 474 college students were recruited to complete a survey comprising measures of smartphone distraction, academic procrastination, academic anxiety, and time management disposition. The hypothesised moderated mediation model was tested using Model 4 and Model 15 of the PROCESS macro for SPSS. Results showed that smartphone distraction was positively and significantly correlated with academic anxiety (r = 0.40, p < 0.001) and academic procrastination (r = 0.42, p < 0.001). Academic procrastination mediated the relationship between smartphone distraction and academic anxiety. Time management disposition moderated the paths from academic procrastination and smartphone distraction to academic anxiety. The present study suggests that smartphone distraction could predict increased levels of academic procrastination, which could then lead to higher academic anxiety. However, the predicting effects in this mediation model could fluctuate across individuals with different time management dispositions. Further studies are needed to explore the mechanism of smartphone distraction using different methods.

We aimed to map tasks related to medication management and time consumption in Danish home health care. Nursing staff (n = 30) from five municipalities were followed during a 10-week period and tasks related to medication management, time consumption and information on citizens' medication were registered. A total of 269 courses were registered, including 163 (61%) home visits, 76 (28%) in-office courses, 29 (11%) in-clinic courses and 1 (0.4%) acute visit. Of defined categories related to medication management, 'record-keeping and communication' (62%, n = 167), 'dispensing' (48%, n = 129) and 'identification' (30%, n = 81) were most often performed. During half of courses (55%, n = 147), the nursing staff was interrupted at least one time. The median time spent on medication management was less than the time allocated in most of allocated time slots (82%), with a median excess time of 5.1 min (range 0.02-24 min). Citizens (n = 32) used a median of 11 (interquartile range [IQR] 9-13) regular medications and 2 (IQR 1-4) as-needed, and 69% (n = 22) used high-risk situation medications. In conclusion, employees in Danish home health care perform diverse medication-related tasks and are frequently interrupted in their work. Employees spend less time than allocated but do not fully solve all tasks according to best practice guidance.

This narrative review addresses the integration of health education into school curricula in South Tyrol, an Italian province with significant cultural and linguistic diversity. This review's objective is to analyze current health education initiatives and propose a strategic framework to enhance school-based health education, aiming to improve student well-being post-pandemic. The review synthesizes global examples and recent local studies, highlighting the importance of comprehensive teacher training, mindfulness-based interventions, culturally sensitive health education, and community engagement. The key findings indicate that current health education programs in South Tyrol are insufficient to meet immediate public health needs, such as low vaccine uptake and mental health challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed strategic framework seeks to align educational strategies with the diverse needs of South Tyrol's student population, thereby improving health literacy and behavior and strengthening the region's public health infrastructure.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 global pandemic has led to a marked increase in anxiety levels, significantly affecting the well-being of individuals worldwide. In response to this growing concern, interventions aimed at enhancing social-emotional skills and promoting mental health are more crucial than ever. OBJECTIVE: This global study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a self-care program on anxiety, loneliness, and satisfaction with life in high school students and staff in a randomized, waitlist control trial with baseline and postintervention assessments. METHODS: The 4-week web-based self-care program, offered by the Heartfulness Institute, is designed to develop social-emotional skills through stress management and self-observation. The web-based program was a positive intervention that offered support to the students and staff to build specific skills, such as reflection, observation, positivity, time management, and goal setting. In this study, the sample consisted of a total of 203 high school students and staff randomized into a control waitlisted group (students: n=57 and staff: n=45) and a Heartfulness group (students: n=57 and staff: n=44) from 3 schools. Both the groups completed web-based surveys at weeks 0, 4, and 8, assessing their anxiety, loneliness, and satisfaction with life scores using Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 Scale (GAD-7 and Severity Measure for Generalized Anxiety Disorder-Child Age 11-17), Satisfaction With Life scale (SWLS) and Satisfaction With Life Scale-Child (SWLS-C), and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale. Survey responses were each individually analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. RESULTS: The study received institutional review board approval on February 3, 2022. Participant recruitment lasted from the approval date until March 30, 2022. The 4-week program for the Heartfulness group started on April 4, 2024. There was a significant 3-way interaction among time, group, and school showing a decrease in anxiety and loneliness scores and an increase in satisfaction-with-life scores (P<.05). In students in the Heartfulness group, there was strong evidence to suggest a significant mean difference in GAD-7, SWLS, and UCLA scores between week 0 and week 4 at all schools (P<.001). In staff in the Heartfulness group, there was strong evidence to suggest a significant mean difference in GAD-7, SWLS, and UCLA scores between week 0 and week 4 at all schools (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS: The pandemic brought severe educational and social changes that triggered a decline in mental health in schools. This study showed the effectiveness of noninvasive self-care tools used digitally to significantly decrease anxiety and loneliness scores and increase satisfaction of life scores in the participants. PURPOSE: The sleep quality of police officers working in shifts is negatively affected due to long working hours and sleeping less during the day. In our study, we aimed to examine the differences in sleep quality and time management skills in police officers working with shift and non-shift system. METHODS: 106 police officers, 46 of whom worked in the shift system, 60 of whom worked in the non-shift system, and whose mean age was 27.6 ± 0.9 [min 20, max 40] were included in the study. Sleep quality was assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index[PSQI] and time management skills with the Time Management Questionnaire[TMQ]. RESULTS: While the TMQ total score was 80.91 ± 12.61 for police officers working in shifts, it was 72.41 ± 12.62 for police officers working non-shift. The PSQI total score was 5 in both groups. There was a difference between the TMQ time planning, TMQ time attitudes sub-dimensions, and TMQ total scores of police officers working in the shift system and those working in the non-shift system[p < 0.05]. While poor sleep quality was observed between both groups, there was no difference in sleep quality[p > 0.05]. CONCLUSION: There was no difference in sleep quality between police officers working in shifts and non-shifts. However, the time management skills of police officers working in shifts were better than those of police officers working in non-shifts. We believe that training programs to improve sleep health and time management skills in police officers are needed for both the sleep quality and well-being of police officers and public safety.

Background: Reasonable and effective time allocation can promote the improvement of medical care service quality. This study aimed to translate, cross-culturally adapt and validate the Chinese Nursing Time Management Scale (NTMS). Methods: Using a cross-sectional survey, 345 clinical nurses were selected from June to September 2023 for a general information questionnaire and Nursing Time Management Scale (NTMS) study. Item analysis, exploratory factor analysis and validation factor analysis were used to verify the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Nursing Time Management Scale. Results: The Chinese version of the Nurses' Time Management Competency Scale includes 17 entries in 3 dimensions: planning activities and setting goals, coordinating activities and procedures, and organizing nursing activities. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.966. Exploratory factor analysis showed that the cumulative variance contribution of the three male factors was 97.44%. Conclusion: The NTMS has acceptable validity and reliability and can be used to evaluate the nursing time management skills of Chinese clinical nurses.

Introduction: The aim of our study is to explore the relationship between procrastination, time management skills and psychological flexibility and the changes in them during an Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT)-based course that included time management training. We also explored the effects of time management skills and psychological flexibility on procrastination. The study used an experimental design in an ACT-based well-being course that included time management training. Methods: The participants were 109 students taking the course and 27 waiting list students. Analyses were conducted with Pearson correlation, mixed ANOVA and causal mediation analysis. Results and discussion: Our results show that time management skills, psychological flexibility and procrastination were related to each other, and all changed during the course. In addition, change in both time management and psychological flexibility had an impact on the change in procrastination during the course. The results show that both time management and psychological flexibility influence the change in procrastination during an ACT-based course.

Background: Time management is a widely ignored concern in all types of organizations, including the healthcare system, despite its crucial role in the achievement of personal and organizational goals. Therefore, determining the practice of time management and its associated factors among health professionals is of paramount importance. Objective: We aimed to assess time management practice and associated factors among health professionals working in public and private hospitals in Dessie City, Northeast Ethiopia. Methods: A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted from 24 March to 24 April 24 2021 among 660 health professionals (220 from private hospitals and 440 from public hospitals), who were randomly selected using a stratified sampling technique. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. A multivariable binary logistic regression model was run separately for public and private hospitals. A p-value of < 0.05 and a 95% confidence interval were reported to be statistically significant. Results: A total of 615 participants responded to the survey, which resulted in a response rate of 93.2%. The magnitude of good time management practice among health professionals in both public and private hospitals was reported to be 57.1% (95% CI: 53.5-60.8%). However, the magnitude differed between public [50.1% (95% CI:45.5-54.7%)] and private hospitals [70.9% (95% CI: 63.5-76.7%)]. Living with families (AOR: 5.39, 95% CI: 1.84-15.77), satisfaction with compensation and benefits (AOR: 7.83, 95% CI: 1.97-31.16), satisfaction with work autonomy (AOR: 7.10, 95% CI: 1.94-25.95), and having a good plan (AOR: 3.42, 95% CI: 1.15-10.13) were statistically significant predictors of time management practice in private hospitals. Satisfaction with an organizational policy and strategy (AOR: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.25-4.36), performance appraisal (AOR: 1.95, 95% CI: 1.13-3.36), work autonomy (AOR: 1.92, 95% CI: 1.12-3.27), and the good approach of employees toward time (AOR: 2.12, 95% CI: 1.26-3.58) were statistically significant predictors of time management practice in public hospitals. Conclusion: The magnitude of a good time management practice in public and private hospitals in the study area was low. The practice was observed to be higher in private hospitals than in public hospitals. The study revealed that the magnitude and associated factors of time management practice vary between hospitals, indicating the need for targeted intervention.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the present status of self-management behavior and glycemic control in individuals diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D), as well as to examine the impact of health quotient (HQ) and time management skills on both self-management behavior and glycemic control. Methods: Between October 2022 and March 2023, a purposive sampling method had been utilized to select 215 participants with type T2D. The survey concluded a general information questionnaire, an HQ scale, a diabetes time management questionnaire and a self-management behavior questionnaire. The health quotient(HQ)encompasses the individuals' knowledge, attitude toward health, and the ability to maintain their own well-being. The diabetes time management questionnaire was reverse-scored, with higher scores indicating an enhanced competence in time management. The path among variables was analyzed using structural equation modeling(SEM). Results: SEM showed that the direct effect of HQ on time management was -0.566 (p < 0.05), the direct effect of time management on the effect of self-management was -0.617 (p < 0.05), the direct effect of HQ on self-management was 0.156, and the indirect effect was 0.349 (p < 0.05); the relationship between health quotient and self-management was partially mediated by time management, with a mediating effect size of 68.8%. In addition, self-management had a direct effect on HbAlc, with a size of -0.394 (p < 0.05); The impacts of both HQ and time management on HbAlc were found to be mediated by self-management, with HQ demonstrating an indirect effect of -0.199 (p < 0.05) and time management showing an indirect effect of 0.244 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Health quotient and time management in patients with T2D serve as catalysts for self-management behavior. They affect HbAlc level indirectly through self-management practices. The suggestion is to prioritize the cultivation of rational time organization and management skills in T2D patients, as well as enhance their health quotient level. This can facilitate a more effective improvement in patients' self-management behaviors, ultimately achieving the objective of maintaining optimal glycemic control.

BACKGROUND: Digital assistive technology (DAT) may support time management in people with dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI), but research on DAT for time management is limited. We aimed to explore how everyday could be supported by DAT for time management in persons with dementia or MCI from informal carers' perspectives. This study focused on a DAT device for time management called MEMOplanner (MMP). METHOD: Using a mixed-methods design, we utilized the Time-Proxy© questionnaire and a study-specific interview guide to investigate the perspectives of informal carers (n = 8) regarding the use of MMP by individuals with dementia or MCI. RESULT: The MMP was helpful in keeping track of time and activity. It helped to maintain an active lifestyle and facilitated communication. However, the MMP did not reduce the need for assistance from the informal carers, and it took time to learn the different functions of the device. Further research into employing a more extensive array of DAT for time management or other areas to assist individuals with dementia will yield valuable insights into enhancing and sustaining a higher quality of life despite cognitive decline.

PURPOSE: To pilot a novel approach investigating the interplay of social and institutional determinants influencing university undergraduate student sleep patterns. DESIGN: A two-part, three-phase mixed-methods approach. SETTING: A mid-size US university conducted in spring and fall 2020. PARTICIPANTS: 191 undergraduate students (69 first-years, 43 second-years, 48 third-years, 31 fourth-years). METHOD: For Part A, participants texted their activities and emotions in real time, producing a data-rich, weeklong diary of comprehensive activity logs, emoticons, multimedia submissions, and juxtapositions of ideal vs real schedules. Semi-structured contextual interviews were also conducted. For Part B, a one-time survey examined Part A insights across all class years. These diverse datasets were triangulated using thematic, comparative, and content analyses through MAXQDA software and visual mapping methods. RESULTS: Three preliminary themes were identified as encouraging an irregular sleep schedule: a prevailing academic ethos emphasizing busyness, time management challenges, and the rhythm of institutional schedules and deadlines. An overarching theme suggests that perceptions of peer sleep habits and academic prioritization above all else could be influential across factors. CONCLUSION: This pilot study indicates that sleep regularity among undergraduates is potentially shaped by individual choices combined with broader institutional paradigms. While it is limited by its exploratory nature, timing, and small sample size, the results highlight the promise of this methodology for more extensive studies and suggest that future interventions should emphasize systemic changes that prioritize sleep.

Introduction: The notion of satisfaction with the use of one's time has not been operationalized previously. Based on qualitative interviews, we propose a concept of positive time use comprised by four components: self-congruence of daily activities, balance between activities, efficient use of time, and a sense of mastery over one's time. Methods: Using data from two UK adult samples (N = 173 and N = 357), we developed a new measure, Positive Time Use Inventory (PTUI), and investigated its structural and convergent validity. Results and discussion: The associations of positive time use with balanced time perspective, affect balance, satisfaction with life, sense of coherence, and self-reported satisfaction with time use indicate convergent and discriminant validity of the new measure. Positive time use partially explained the associations of balanced time perspective with subjective well-being and fully mediated the effects of future time perspective and time management on subjective well-being. We propose positive time use as a new model of temporal well-being, which brings together the notions of work-life balance, time efficiency, and time mastery in a single comprehensive framework, helping to inform the time management coaching interventions.

OBJECTIVE: Breast units led by nurse case managers are being implemented to provide comprehensive care in the detection and treatment of breast cancer. However, their implementation is heterogeneous and the results of the care process with this professional have not been studied. The aim of the study is to describe the management in time and the approach of the process by a nurse case manager in the breast unit of women with suspected breast cancer pathology, derived from the breast cancer screening program. METHODS: Descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective study carried out in 2021. Women treated in a breast unit managed by a nurse case manager in a hospital in southern Spain were included. Sociodemographic, clinical and care process characteristics were analysed RESULTS: A total of 118 women of Spanish nationality (92%) participated, with a mean age of 59 years. The diagnosis of malignancy was made in 74.6% of them. Seventy-nine percent of the women had their first visit within 3 days. The mean time to diagnosis was 3.98 days (SD: ±3.93), 4.2 weeks (SD: ±1.84) to initiate treatment and a total in-hospital time of 33 days (SD: ±13.45). CONCLUSIONS: The management of nurse case managers in breast units contributes to improving or speeding up times, in accordance with international guidelines, helping this approach in the continuity of the care process for women referred after screening for breast cancer detection.

Background Predatory journals are an emerging problem in scientific literature, as they have financial motives without guaranteeing scientific quality. Therefore, the scientific community needs to establish how this issue can be solved in the long term. Objective The study aims to provide information that can be used to take action against predatory journals and to guide future change. Methods A Google Forms (Google LLC, Mountain View, California, United States) survey was designed and disseminated between September 2021 and April 2022. Reflexive thematic analysis was used as a qualitative analysis technique in this study, with the assistance of the NVivo software (Lumivero LLC, Denver, Colorado, United States) to manage and support the analysis process. Results A total of 978 responses from 58 countries worldwide, achieving a response rate of 19.9%, were analyzed. Five key themes emerged regarding participants' suggestions on techniques to cope with the detrimental impact of predatory journals: "Checking," "Increasing education and awareness," "Responsibility," "Use of technology," and "Obstacles to the solution." Conclusion The outcomes of this study will help us focus and channel efforts in the future to combat predatory journals and aid us in understanding what needs to be done. We hope that this study will influence management strategies and encourage more education and awareness on a global scale.
