RESUMO

Two dogs with histologically confirmed progressive cutaneous angiomatosis were presented because of extensive and progressive cutaneous lesions of 1 hind limb causing pain and lameness. Radiation therapy was offered to treat disease recurrence after amputation in the first case and as first treatment in the second case. Metronomic therapy was added in both dogs. Complete and partial regression of the cutaneous lesions was achieved, respectively, with a period of 31 months of disease-free interval (first case) and 12 months of stable disease (second case). Self-limiting grades I and II acute side effects were observed. Radiation therapy can be an alternative to surgery in the treatment of inoperable cutaneous progressive angiomatosis.

Hemangiomatosis with osteolysis, osteosclerosis and loss of bony definition is an uncommon disease entity. Many forms of treatment have been used, varying almost from case to case. The use of radiation therapy has proved successful in the control of the disease process in reported cases. The current case of hind foot hemangiomatosis went on to develop sarcoma 17 years later in the uninvolved tibia at the margin of the radiation field, which proved to be fatal to the patient. Treatment by radiotherapy had permitted normal function for 15 years. This case highlights the difficulties of management of skeletal angiomatosis based on anatomic location and emphasizes the need for judicious planning and selection of the mode of delivery of radiotherapy.

RESUMO

41 children with vascular tumors of the larynx, pharynx and mouth cavity were examined in the hospital. Hemangiomas were found in 29, lymphangiomas in 11 cases, lymphemangioma in one child. The tumors had multiple location and in 22 patients were combined with dermal angiomatosis. The chief techniques of removing the above vascular tumors were cryosurgery and CO2-laser coagulation. Radiotherapy was applied in cases of extensive dermal angiomatosis. A good response was achieved in 37 cases, tumor growth persisted in one patient. One child died as a result of the disease progression, and one more child of an intercurrent disease.

RESUMO

Basing on 11 cases of angiomatosis retinae, diagnosed and treated in the last 30 years in the Ophthalmological Clinic in Halle, the authors discussed the problems concerning this rare disease. Their observations confirmed the opinion that photocoagulation is the method of choice in the treatment of angiomatosis retinae and that it is successful in small, less than 2 disc diameter angiomas. The further possible therapeutical methods are cryocoagulation, radioactive-isotopes and vitrectomy. As the treatment should be repeated and the long-lasting follow-up is necessary, the efficient cooperation with the patients is very important.

RESUMO

We present a patient with isolated angiomatosis retinae, in whom ruthenium irradiation was administered for treatment of a secondary serous retinal detachment. Prior to therapy, we measured an increased vessel diameter. Following treatment, decreasing venous vessel diameter was documented three-dimensionally utilizing laser scanning tomography. The changes in vessel height (87%) exceeded the changes in width (49%). This is most probably because the vessels are embedded in the nerve fiber layer, stabilized by the surrounding tissues more in a horizontal than in a vertical direction. In addition, spontaneous venous pulsation located in the optic disc and in the retina was documented.

RESUMO

The authors report a case of Hippel's angiomatosis successfully treated with contact beta irradiation. The area of the multiplex retinal angioma and the accompanying retinal detachment was irradiated with a 106Ru/106Rh radioactive applicator. Hemodynamic changes due to irradiation were followed up in the ipsilateral ophthalmic artery with transcranial Doppler sonography. Scarring was also demonstrated by fluorescein angiography and A- and B-scan ultrasonography. Irradiation caused the narrowing and later the occlusion of the precapillaries and capillaries (i.e. the resistance vessels) and that of the shunts inside the angioma; consequently, vascular resistance increased. Transcranial Doppler sonographic recordings showed a decrease in blood flow velocity as compared to pathologically increased blood flow velocity in angiomas, and a gradual increase in vascular resistance which was lower before treatment.

RESUMO

A 12 year old patient was treated for Sturge-Weber syndrome with choroidal haemangioma and total exsudative retinal detachment. The diagnosis was supported by echography and thin-layer computed tomography. Because of the exsudative retinal detachment photocoagulation could not be performed. Treatment by percutaneous radiotherapy with Caesium 137 was performed. The retina was reattached by application of 30 Gray. A flat pigmented scar developed in the area of the haemangioma at the posterior pole of the eye. No side effects appeared. The follow-up time is 26 months.

RESUMO

A boy aged 4 years and 3 months with Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome showed a vein the thickness of a finger running suprapubicly. When he was standing it was filled tightly. Angiography showed agenesis of the right common femoral vein. Reflux from the right leg passed through this vein to the left common femoral vein. On the basis of the literature the place of these vascular dysplasias in the Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome is discussed. Diagnosis and treatment of such venous malformations are mentioned.
