RESUMO

Objectives: The aim of the review is to evaluate the existing precision of artificial intelligence (AI) in detecting Marginal Bone Loss (MBL) around prosthetic crowns using 2-Dimentional radiographs. It also summarises the recent advances and future challenges associated to their clinical application. Methodology: A literature survey of electronic databases was conducted in November 2023 to recognize the relevant articles. MeSH terms/keywords were used to search ("panoramic" OR "pantomogram" OR "orthopantomogram" OR "opg" OR "periapical") AND ("artificial intelligence" OR "deep" OR "machine" OR "automated" OR "learning") AND ("periodontal bone loss") AND ("prosthetic crown") in PubMed database, SCOPUS, COCHRANE library, EMBASE, CINAHL and Science Direct. RESULTS: The searches identified 49 relevant articles, of them 5 articles met the inclusion criteria were included. The outcomes measured were sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of AI models versus manual detection in panoramic and intraoral radiographs. Few studies reported no significant difference between AI and manual detection, whereas majority demonstrated the superior ability of AI in detecting MBL. CONCLUSIONS: AI models show promising accuracy in analysing complex datasets and generate accurate predictions in the MBL around fixed prosthesis. However, these models are still in the developmental phase. Therefore, it is crucial to assess the effectiveness and reliability of these models before recommending their use in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: This Finite Element Analysis was conducted to analyze the biomechanical behaviors of titanium base abutments and several crown materials with respect to fatigue lifetime and stress distribution in implants and prosthetic components. METHODS: Five distinct designs of implant-supported single crowns were modeled, including a polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polymer-infiltrated ceramic network, monolithic lithium disilicate, and precrystallized and crystallized zirconia-reinforced lithium silicates supported by a titanium base abutment. For the static load, a 100 N oblique load was applied to the buccal incline of the palatal cusp of the maxillary right first premolar. The dynamic load was applied in the same way as in static loading with a frequency of 1 Hz. The principal stresses in the peripheral bone as well as the von Mises stresses and fatigue strength of the implants, abutments, prosthetic screws, and crowns were assessed. RESULTS: All of the models had comparable von Mises stress values from the implants and abutments, as well as comparable maximum and minimum principal stress values from the cortical and trabecular bones. The PEEK crown showed the lowest stress (46.89 MPa) in the cervical region. The prosthetic screws and implants exhibited the highest von Mises stress among the models. The lithium disilicate crown model had approximately 9.5 times more cycles to fatique values for implants and 1.7 times more cycles to fatique values for abutments than for the lowest ones. CONCLUSIONS: With the promise of at least ten years of clinical success and favorable stress distributions in implants and prosthetic components, clinicians can suggest using an implant-supported lithium disilicate crown with a titanium base abutment.

PURPOSE: To evaluate clinical performances of two lithium disilicate systems (Initial LiSi press vs Initial LiSi Block, GC Co.) using modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) evaluation criteria and survival rates after 4 years of clinical service. METHODS: Partial adhesive crowns on natural abutment posterior teeth were made on 60 subjects who were randomly divided into two groups: Group 1: Initial LiSi press and Group 2: Initial LiSi Block. Fabrication of partial crowns was made with full analog and digital procedure in Groups 1 and 2 respectively. The restorations were followed-up for 1 and 4 years, and the modified USPHS evaluation was performed at baseline and each recall together with periodontal evaluation. Contingency tables to assess for significant differences of success over time in each group and time-dependent Cox regression to test for differences between the two groups were used and the level of significance was set at P< 0.05. RESULTS: Regarding modified USPHS scores, all evaluated parameters showed Alpha or Bravo and no Charlie was recorded. No statistically significant difference emerged between the two groups in any of the assessed variables (P> 0.05). No statistically significant difference between scores recorded at the baseline and each recall. All modified USPHS scores were compatible with the outcome of clinical success and no one restoration was replaced or repaired, and the survival rate was 100% after 4 years of clinical service. No difference was found between traditional and digital procedure to fabricate the crowns. The two lithium disilicate materials showed similar results after 4 years of clinical service. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The crowns made with the two tested lithium disilicate materials with analog and digital procedures showed 100% survival after 4 years of clinical service with no statistically significant difference using the modified USPHS scores.

RESUMO

The present technical article describes a protocol to digitally reproduce the emergence profile of an interim implant prosthesis (IP) and to transfer its macrogeometry into the definitive restoration. The purpose of this protocol was to minimize alterations in the gingival architecture developed during the interim restorative phase of a single implant that could potentially jeopardize its esthetic outcome. The process included obtaining an intraoral scan with the interim IP in situ, a duplicate of this intraoral scan that was used to capture the exact position of the implant, and an extraoral scan of the prosthesis. These data could then be imported into IOS software to create a model where the patients' soft tissue was incorporated with precision, allowing for the fabrication of a definitive crown with an optimal soft tissue adaptation. As there are few articles in the scientific literature that have reported a consistent method to replicate the emergence profile of an interim IP, the present technical article aims to highlight the potential of utilizing the emergence profile of an interim IP created by IOS software.

AIM: The present study was a retrospective medium- to long-term follow-up assessment of the clinical outcomes of patients rehabilitated with fixed prostheses according to the biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT) principles. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinical records of patients rehabilitated between January 2007 and December 2014 were retrospectively assessed. Patients whose records met the inclusion criteria were also recalled for a hygiene visit. Data analyzed included the patients' periodontal condition, the presence of gingival recessions as well as any technical or biologic prosthetic complication. RESULTS: Fifty-eight patients were recalled; of these, 52 patients who had received 220 crowns were available for the evaluation (the dropout being 13.8%). The average follow-up was 9.3 years (range 5 to 13 years): 14 patients (114 prosthetic crowns) had a follow-up between 5 and 8 years, and 36 patients (106 prosthetic crowns) between 9 and 13 years. The prosthetic survival rate was 99.6%. One radicular fracture (0.4%) and four chippings of the veneering porcelain (1.8%) were recorded. Six teeth (2.7% of the examined prosthetic crowns) presented gingival recession of < 1 mm, and 13 teeth (24 sites) had a pocket probing depth of 4 mm (5.9% of the prosthetic crowns/1.8% of the sites). Finally, 20 sites (1.5%) in seven teeth (3.2%) showed bleeding on probing. CONCLUSIONS: Tooth preparation according to the BOPT principles (ie, with a vertical finishing line) resulted in medium- to long-term periodontal health and stability of the gingival tissue, and prosthetic success was maintained.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the long-term clinical performance of ceramic in-/onlays (CIOs) and cast gold partial crowns (CGPCs) in posterior teeth in terms of success, survival, complications (biological, technical) and quality. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In a retrospective study, a total of 325 patients were recorded after up to 24.8 years (mean 13.9 ± 3.8 years) having (pre-)molars restored with CIO (Empress I, Ivoclar Vivadent, n = 161) and CGPC (Degunorm, DeguDent, n = 164) by supervised undergraduate students. A total of 296 restorations were assessed clinically and radiologically in healthy and endodontically treated teeth using modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. Cumulative success and survival rates of the restorations were calculated using Kaplan-Meier estimates. Biological and technical complications were recorded. Status of oral health comprising caries risk and localized periodontitis were assessed. RESULTS: The cumulative success rates of CIOs were 92.1% and of CGPCs 84.2% after mean service times of 14.5 years. The annual failure rates of total service times were 0.5% in teeth restored with CIO (n = 155) and 0.7% in teeth restored with CGPC (n = 163). The cumulative survival rates of CIOs were 93.9% after a mean service time of 15.2 years and decreased to 91.7% after 23.5 years. The cumulative survival rates of CGPCs were 92.6% after a mean service time of 14.9 years and 91.8% after 23.5 years. Complications in CIOs (n = 149) were ceramic fracture (6.7%), secondary caries (4.7%), endodontic complication (2.7%) and tooth fracture (1.3%) compared to CGPCs (n = 147) with endodontic complication (8.8%), secondary caries (4.8%) and decementation (2.0%). Endodontically treated teeth restored with CIO or CGPC revealed significantly less often success compared with corresponding vital teeth (p = .02). CIOs and CGPCs revealed clinically and radiographically good and excellent qualities with 71.8% (107/149) and 68% (100/147) without any significant differences regarding type of restoration. CONCLUSIONS: Both CIOs and CGPCs achieved high survival rates up to 24.8 years when performed by supervised undergraduate students. The longevity of the restorations may benefit from the intraoral repair of accessible defects and, in case of pulp infection or necrosis, an adequate endodontic management. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: CIOs and CGPCs made by supervised undergraduate students are proper restoration types in posterior teeth in the long-term. An adequate preparation design, meticulous care in the inserting technique and constant biofilm removal due to proper oral hygiene combined with professional maintenance care are substantial. The clinical long-term performance was mostly limited by ceramic fractures in CIOs and endodontic complications in CGPCs.

AIM: The objective of this study was to assess marginal bone level around single implants inserted in fresh extraction sockets in the anterior maxillary region and instantly restored with computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing customized temporary crowns cemented on the final abutment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 20 patients (15 females and 5 males, with a mean age of 30 years), where 20 were placed in fresh extraction sockets. After raising a full-thickness flap, atraumatic extraction was performed the implant site was prepared and fixtures were stabilized on the palatal bone wall. The implant location was immediately transmitted to the prepared master model using the pick-up impression coping seated in the surgical guide template. Prefabricated abutments were used as the final abutment on the master model, scanned and the crown was planned using computer-aided manufacturing customized software. Later on 8th weeks, abutments were torqued as per the manufacturer's recommendation, and the final crowns were cemented. Using personalized intraoral radiographs marginal bone level was evaluated mesially and distally to the implant shoulder as a reference at implant placement, 8 weeks, 1, 3, 5, and 10 years after loading. RESULTS: Wholly implants were osteo-integrated positively after 10 years of practical loading, but only 18 were available for clinical and radiological follow-up, and 2 patients with two implants were excluded from the study due to relocation abroad without any implant failure. The average marginal bone loss (MBL) in the current report was 0.16 ± 0.167 mm at crown cementation, 0.275 ± 0.171 mm after 1 year, 0.265 ± 0.171 mm after 3 years, 0.213 ± 0.185 mm after 5 years, and 0.217 ± 0.194 mm at 10 years. CONCLUSION: The strategy of inserting and not removing the final abutment at the time of implant placement facilitates the establishment of adequate attachment of both soft and hard tissues to the abutment surface, ensuring uninterrupted organization of tissue architecture and offers advantages in helping maintain soft tissue maturation and preventing marginal bone level. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Immediately loaded implants in freshly extracted sockets lead to a significant reduction in marginal ridge resorption. The use of a temporary crown on a prefabricated abutment, exclusive of successive abutment manipulation, proved effective in preserving the primarily founding blood clot and served as a prototype for shaping the soft tissue around the previously wounded gum. RESUMO

The aim of the treatment of this case was to restore the form, function and aesthetics of all teeth in a patient with amelogenesis imperfecta within the age limit of the disability insurance (IV). Single-tooth zirconia crowns were selected as the treatment of choice and cemented with a conventional glass ionomer cement. For the maintenance of the oral rehabilitation and the protection of the reconstructions a michigan splint was produced and instructed to be carried over night.

PURPOSE: To validate an innovative 3D volumetric method of evaluating tissue changes proposed by Lee et al in 2020 by comparing the results of this method-in which the scanned peri-implant surfaces were transformed, visualized, and analyzed as 3D objects-to the results reported by an existing method based on calculation of the mean distance between measured surfaces. The null hypothesis was that there was no statistically significant difference between the two methods. Additionally, the present study evaluated peri-implant tissue changes 5 years after single implant placement in the esthetic zone. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Both methods were applied to 11 oral implant site casts (6 maxillary central incisor sites, 5 maxillary lateral incisor sites) taken from 11 patients at crown placement and at follow-up examinations 5 years later. The methods are based on digital workflows in which the reference and 5-year casts are scanned and the resulting STL files are superimposed and analyzed for three regions of interest (mesial papilla, central area, and distal papilla). The volumetric changes reported by the Lee et al method and the mean distance method were calculated and compared using the Spearman rank correlation coefficient (P < .01) and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (P < .05). RESULTS: The correlation between the two sets of measurements was very high (Spearman rank correlation coefficient = 0.885). The new volumetric method indicated a mean volume loss of 2.82 mm3 (SD: 5.06), while the method based on the measurement of mean distance showed a mean volume loss of 2.92 mm3 (SD: 4.43; Wilcoxon signed-rank test result: P = .77). No statistically significant difference was found. The two methods gave equivalent results, and the null hypothesis was accepted. CONCLUSIONS: The new volumetric method was validated and can be considered a trustworthy tool.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate whether post-milling firing and material type affect the fabrication trueness and internal fit of lithium disilicate crowns. METHODS: A prefabricated cobalt chromium abutment was digitized to design a mandibular right first molar crown. This design file was used to fabricate crowns from different lithium disilicate ceramics (nano-lithium disilicate (AM), fully crystallized lithium disilicate (IN), advanced lithium disilicate (TS), and lithium disilicate (EX)) (n = 10). Crowns, the abutment, and the crowns when seated on the abutment were digitized by using an intraoral scanner. Fabrication trueness was assessed by using the root mean square method, while the internal fit was evaluated according to the triple scan method. These processes were repeated after the post-milling firing of AM, TS, and EX. Paired samples t-tests were used to analyze the effect of post-milling firing within AM, TS, and EX, while all materials were compared with 1-way analysis of variance and Tukey HSD tests (α = 0.05). RESULTS: Post-milling firing reduced the surface deviations and internal gap of AM and EX (P ≤ 0.014). AM mostly had higher deviations and internal gaps than other materials (P ≤ 0.030). CONCLUSIONS: Post-milling firing increased the trueness and internal fit of tested nano-lithium disilicate and lithium disilicate ceramics. Nano-lithium disilicate mostly had lower trueness and higher internal gap; however, the maximum meaningful differences among tested materials were small. Therefore, the adjustment duration and clinical fit of tested crowns may be similar. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Tested lithium disilicate ceramics may be suitable alternatives to one another in terms of fabrication trueness and internal fit, considering the small differences in measured deviations and internal gaps.

AIM: Implant therapy in partially edentulous patients has become the most adapted and predictable treatment modality. The success rate of implants has been measured in terms of esthetic, biological, and technical factors such as radiographic bone loss, prosthetic complications, and stability. Despite the existence of several indices for the esthetic assessment of implant crowns, a need for functional evaluation of the implant crown with an objective and reproducible score has arisen. The study aims to validate the reproducibility of the functional implant prosthodontic score (FIPS) and the influence exerted by different dental specialties while evaluating posterior single-unit implant crowns. STUDY SETTING AND DESIGN: This was a prospective clinical study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen patients with cement-retained single-implant crowns in the posterior region of the jaws were included. Eight examiners, two prosthodontists, two periodontists, two oral surgeons, and two orthodontists evaluated 15 photographs of single-unit implant crowns during the 1-year follow-up examination. The examiners assessed the photographs for FIPS, which includes five parameters for objectively evaluating the single-unit implant crowns. Assessments were performed twice at a gap of 4 weeks. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED: Pearson's correlation with a 95% confidence interval was calculated for the intra-examiner and the Kruskal-Wallis test for inter-examiner reproducibility. RESULTS: The mean total FIPS scores for all included examiners were 7.133 for time T1 and 7.074 for time T2, showing a strong Pearson correlation coefficient for intra-examiner reproducibility. No significant difference was analyzed among different specialties with statistically significant values of the Kruskal-Wallis test. CONCLUSION: Intra- and inter-examiner analysis showed very consistent results during the reproducibility assessment of FIPS. The results validated the use of FIPS as a long-term predictive functional evaluation tool for the single-implant crowns in posterior sites irrespective of the effect of different dental specialties. It could be used for risk estimation and prognosis for long-term survival and performance of implant crowns.

Zirconia crown has been widely used in the field of prosthodontics. Traditional zirconia exhibits excellent mechanical properties but lacks translucency. The introduction of transparent zirconia significantly enhances its aesthetic performance. In clinical applications, factors affecting the aesthetic results of full zirconia crown should be comprehensively considered, and the most suitable restoration should be chosen. Additionally, clinicians need to design appropriate tooth preparation dimensions and methods based on an individual patient's actual situation. During the clinical bonding process of zirconia, proper surface treatment of the tooth and restoration is essential. The selection of suitable adhesives is crucial for achieving optimal bonding strength and aesthetics.

Complicated crown root fracture is a serious combined fracture of the enamel, dentin, and cementum in dental trauma. The treatment method is complicated. During the procedure, the condition of pulp, periodontal, and tooth body should be thoroughly evaluated, and a multidisciplinary approach combined with sequential treatment is recommended. This case reported the different treatment and repair processes of one case of two affected teeth after complicated crown root fracture of upper anterior teeth, including regrafting of broken crown after flap surgery at the first visit, direct resin repair to remove broken fragments, and pulp treatment and post-crown repair at the second visit. After 18 months of follow-up, the preservation treatment of the affected teeth with complicated crown root fracture was achieved. Therefore, fragment reattachment and post-crown restoration are feasible treatment options for children with complicated crown root fracture.

Different pattern fabrication methods, including hand-waxing, milling, or 3D printing, may affect restorations accuracy. The effect of porcelain firing cycles on the marginal fit of metal-ceramic restorations remains controversial, with conflicting findings across studies. PURPOSE: The aim was to evaluate the potential effects of multiple porcelain firings (3, 5, 7 cycles) as well as pattern fabrication method (conventional hand-waxing, milling, and 3D printing) on the marginal adaptation of 3-unit implant-supported metal-ceramic fixed partial dentures. It was hypothesized that neither the wax pattern fabrication method nor repeated ceramic firings would significantly affect the marginal adaptation of metal-ceramic crowns. METHODS: In this in-vitro study, 30 Cobalt-Chromium alloy frameworks were fabricated based on pattern made through three techniques: conventional hand-waxing, CAD-CAM milling, and CAD-CAM 3D printing (n = 10 per group). Sixteen locations were marked on each abutment to measure the vertical marginal gap at four stages: before porcelain veneering and after 3, 5, and 7 firing cycles. The vertical marginal gap was measured using direct microscopic technique at ×80 magnification. Mean vertical marginal gap values were calculated and two-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc tests were used for inter-group comparisons (α = 0.05). RESULTS: The 3D printing group showed significantly lower (P<0.001) mean vertical marginal gaps (60-76 µm) compared to the milling (77-115 µm) and conventional hand-waxing (102-110 µm) groups. The milling group exhibited a significant vertical gap increase after 3 firing cycles (P<0.001); while the conventional (P = 0.429) and 3D printing groups (P = 0.501) showed no significant changes after 7 firing cycles. Notably, the vertical marginal gap in all groups remained below the clinically acceptable threshold of 120 µm. CONCLUSION: CAD-CAM 3D printing provided superior marginal fit compared to CAD-CAM milling and conventional hand-wax pattern fabrication methods. The impact of porcelain firing on the mean marginal gap was significant only in the milling group. All three fabrication techniques yielded clinically acceptable vertical marginal adaptation after repeated firings. Additive manufacturing holds promise to produce precise implant-supported prostheses.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this clinical trial was to assess and compare the clinical outcomes of Bioflx crowns (BFCs) with stainless steel crowns (SSCs) in primary molars (PMs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective split-mouth randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted between March 2022 and June 2023. Thirty-eight patients (17 females and 21 males) with a mean age of 5.21 years participated in this study. Each child (n = 38) received both SSC and BFC. Clinical and radiographic follow-up was performed at baseline, 3, 6, and 12 months using the modified United States Public Health System scoring criteria to evaluate various parameters. RESULTS: At the 3 and 6 months' follow-up, no significant difference was observed between the two groups. However, at 1-year follow-up, a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05) was evident in the frequency between the two groups for the criteria of crown retention after cementation and anatomic form of the crown, indicating a preference for SSC over prototype 1 BFC. CONCLUSION: The 12-month results indicate that BFC performed similarly to the established SSC for the restoration of PMs providing better esthetics.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to conduct a comparison of trueness and physical and surface properties among five distinct types of additive manufactured (AM) zirconia crowns and zirconia crowns produced using the subtractive manufacturing (SM). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Zirconia crowns were fabricated using five distinct techniques, each varying in the method of slurry transfer and photocuring source. Each experimental group utilized either one of the four digital light processing (DLP)-based techniques (DLP spreading, DLP spreading gradation, DLP vat and DLP circular spreading) or the stereolithography (SLA)-based technique (SLA spreading). The control (CON) group employed SM. To assess accuracy, trueness was measured between the scan and reference data. To analyze the physical properties, voids were examined using high-energy spiral micro-computed tomography scans, and the crystal structure analysis was performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD). Surface roughness was assessed through laser scanning microscopy. RESULTS: Differences in the trueness of internal surfaces of crowns were found among the groups (P < 0.05). Trueness varied across the measurement surfaces (occlusal, lateral, and marginal) in all the groups except for the DLP spreading gradation group (P < 0.05). Voids were observed in all AM groups. All groups showed similar XRD patterns. All AM groups showed significantly greater surface roughness compared to the CON group (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The AM zirconia crowns showed bubbles and a rougher surface compared to the SM crowns. All groups exhibited typical zirconia traits and trueness levels within clinically acceptable limits, suggesting that current zirconia AM techniques could be suitable for dental applications.

BACKGROUND: Yttrium-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) and alumina are the most commonly used dental esthetic crown materials. This study aimed to provide detailed information on the comparison between yttrium-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) and alumina, the two materials most often used for esthetic crowns in dentistry. METHODOLOGY: The ground-state energy of the materials was calculated using the Cambridge Serial Total Energy Package (CASTEP) code, which employs a first-principles method based on density functional theory (DFT). The electronic exchange-correlation energy was evaluated using the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) within the Perdew (Burke) Ernzerhof scheme. RESULTS: Optimization of the geometries and investigation of the optical properties, dynamic stability, band structures, refractive indices, and mechanical properties of these materials contribute to a holistic understanding of these materials. Geometric optimization of YSZ provides important insights into its dynamic stability based on observations of its crystal structure and polyhedral geometry, which show stable configurations. Alumina exhibits a distinctive charge, kinetic, and potential (CKP) geometry, which contributes to its interesting structural framework and molecular-level stability. The optical properties of alumina were evaluated using pseudo-atomic computations, demonstrating its responsiveness to external stimuli. The refractive indices, reflectance, and dielectric functions indicate that the transmission of light by alumina depends on numerous factors that are essential for the optical performance of alumina as a material for esthetic crowns. The band structures of both the materials were explored, and the band gap of alumina was determined to be 5.853 eV. In addition, the band structure describes electronic transitions that influence the conductivity and optical properties of a material. The stability of alumina can be deduced from its bandgap, an essential property that determines its use as a dental material. Refractive indices are vital optical properties of esthetic crown materials. Therefore, the ability to understand their refractive-index graphs explains their transparency and color distortion through how the material responds to light..The regulated absorption characteristics exhibited by YSZ render it a highly attractive option for the development of esthetic crowns, as it guarantees minimal color distortion. CONCLUSION: The acceptability of materials for esthetic crowns is strongly determined by mechanical properties such as elastic stiffness constants, Young's modulus, and shear modulus. YSZ is a highly durable material for dental applications, owing to its superior mechanical strength.

PURPOSE: To evaluation the effect of modified triangular flap-secondary healing (MTF-S) on the treatment of mandibular impacted wisdom teeth with full or partial bone impaction. METHODS: A total of 207 patients with mandibular impacted wisdom teeth were selected in Shaoxing Stomatological Hospital from June 2022 to June 2023. Among them, 86 patients had completely impacted wisdom teeth (group A), and 121 patients had partially impacted wisdom teeth (group B). All patients had bilateral impacted wisdom teeth. One of the wisdom teeth was removed first and was sutured with triangular flap-primary healing (TF-P). The other wisdom tooth was removed two weeks later and was sutured with MTF-S. Patients in groups A and B were divided into two subgroups based on suture methods, with TF-P used for group A1 and B1, and MTF-S used for groups A2 and B2. Perioperative indicators, including surgical time, root loss rate, and completeness of extraction sockets were recorded; Postoperative complications of four groups, including pain, swelling, and limited mouth opening were compared. SPSS 22.0 software package was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The surgical time of group A1, A2, B1 and B2 was (17.69±3.28), (18.22±3.06), (12.37±3.72) and (12.64±4.13) minutes, respectively. The surgical time of group A1 and A2 was significantly longer than that of group B1 and B2 (P<0.05). Seven days after surgery, the VAS scores of group A1, A2, B1 and B2 were (1.17±0.34), (0.93±0.29), (0.48±0.15) and (0.76±0.21), respectively. The VAS scores of group B1 and B2 were lower than those of group A1 and A2, and group A2 was lower than group A1 and B2 was higher than group B1 group(P<0.05). On the 1st day, 3rd day, and 7th day after surgery, the swelling degree in group A1 was greater than that in group B1, and the swelling degree in group B1 was greater than that in group A2 and B2(P<0.05); while the limitation of mouth opening mouth in group A2 and B2 was lower than that in group A1 and B1, and the limitation of opening mouth in group B2 was lower than that in group A2(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with partially impacted wisdom teeth, the extraction of completely impacted wisdom teeth has a longer surgical time. For completely impacted wisdom teeth, MTF-S is beneficial for reducing postoperative pain, swelling and mouth opening limitations. For partially impacted wisdom teeth, MTF-S is beneficial for reducing postoperative swelling and mouth opening limitations, but the effect is not significant in reducing patient pain.

PURPOSE: To evaluate and compare the difference in retention between implant-supported restorations with and without surface modification of the implant abutments. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 30 patients with singletooth implants were restored with cement-retained (Multilink N, Ivoclar) restorations using titanium base abutments (Variobase, Straumann) and randomly assigned surface modifications. Group 1 used nonmodified abutments, group 2 used sandblasted abutments, and group 3 used sandblasted abutments followed by an application of metal primer. All patients were recalled for a baseline examination 6 months after crown placement. The pull-out strength and intergroup distribution of mean pull-out strength were assessed. To assess differences between the three groups, intergroup statistical comparison of continuous variables was done using one-way ANOVA with Tukey correction for multiple group comparisons. RESULTS: The results of the intergroup mean pull-out strength distribution revealed that the distribution of mean ± SD pull-out strength in group 1, group 2, and group 3 were 220.79 ± 94.23, 488.64 ± 84.12, and 705.46 ± 112.75 Ncm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Sandblasting followed by the application of metal primer produced the highest retention of porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns to titanium base abutments, followed by sandblasting alone, with the least retention being observed with no surface treatment.

Three-dimensional (3D) printing, otherwise known as additive manufacturing in a non-technical context, is becoming increasingly popular in the field of dentistry. As an essential step in the 3D printing process, postwashing with organic solvents can damage the printed resin polymer and possibly pose a risk to human health. The development of water-washable dental resins means that water can be used as a washing agent. However, the effects of washing agents and washing times on the mechanical and biocompatibility properties of water-washable resins remain unclear. This study investigated the impact of different washing agents (water, detergent, and alcohol) and washing time points (5, 10, 20, and 30 min) on the flexural strength, Vickers hardness, surface characterization, degree of conversion, biocompatibility, and monomer elution of 3D printed samples. Using water for long-term washing better preserved the mechanical properties, caused a smooth surface, and improved the degree of conversion, with 20 min of washing with water achieving the same biological performance as organic solvents. Water is an applicable agent option for washing the 3D printing water-washable temporary crown and bridge resin in the postwashing process. This advancement facilitates the development of other water-washable intraoral resins and the optimization of clinical standard washing guidelines.
