RESUMO

The development of care research and its teaching in the Faculty of Nursing at Universidad de Antioquia cannot be understood outside the context in which it emerges and from the trajectory of its leading players. This is how this article will present a synthesis of the future of research, with its principal milestones and events in institutional history, in dialogue with the trajectories of four teaching nurses, protagonists of key moments in said history and living testimony of 70 years of institutional life. This panorama seeks to constitute a referent for strategic reflection, which inspires new generations to meet the research challenges and teach care research.

RESUMO

The year 2019 saw nursing science become an official discipline in France, following the academization process initiated in 2009. Although nurses did not wait for this breakthrough to embark on doctoral-level courses, the absence of a dedicated academic nursing pathway has meant that it has not been possible to gain an overall picture of the theses written by nurses in French universities. The aim of this contribution is to compile an inventory of these theses by identifying the disciplinary fields in which the nurses defended them, as well as the preferred methodological approaches adopted. Following a computerized search using various databases, 132 theses were identified spanning a forty-year period, with a significant increase over the last ten years. Eighty-four percent of these doctoral theses were defended in the disciplines of humanities and social sciences, with a very large proportion in education sciences. Qualitative methods were preferred, with investigations that used interviews. The number of theses in the biological and health sciences has seen a recent increase. This inventory provides a benchmark for the doctoral output of nurses at a pivotal point in their professional history.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Korean Society of Nursing Science (KSNS). This study was aimed to explore development of caring and describe the 50 years of history of KSNS within the sociocultural context of Korea regarding academic footsteps, meanings, and implications for the future. METHODS: This study used a historical research methodology using a literature review and bibliometric analysis. Relevant literature was reviewed and the published abstracts in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing (JKAN) were analyzed using VOSviewer. RESULTS: Birth control and family planning in the 1970s was the main research topic. In the 1980s, the development of nursing concepts, theories, and philosophies was the mission of KSNS to extend the disciplinary boundary. In the 1990s, the progress of KSNS to become one of the woman-dominant healthcare professionals was the mission in the given period. Expanding the frontiers of KSNS to the extent of global standards was the undertaking of the nursing scholars in the 2000s. Lastly, in the 2010s, the quality and quantity improvement of KSNS and JKAN is expected to make our future even prosperous. The map visualization of the 50 years of research accumulation showed the comparable opposition of quantitative vs. qualitative research methodologies, equation modeling, and instrument development. CONCLUSION: These clusters of research demonstrates the efforts to make nursing evidence by Korean nursing scholars for the last five decades. The growth in the slope of KSNS and outcomes of JKAN are to carry on to an unimaginable extent in the future.

RESUMO

A historical overview and evolution of Leininger's ethnonursing research method (ERM) is presented along with descriptions of the method's purpose, goal, terminology, and enablers. A succinct guide to using ERM is provided to assist novice and seasoned researchers, as well as mentors and educators, in teaching, mentoring, advising, and/or conducting ethnonursing research studies. Criteria for evaluation of qualitative research studies, such as the ERM, are highlighted.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to analyse the literature production on application of bibliometrics in nursing research. METHODS: Historical, descriptive, and exploratory bibliometrics analyses were used. The papers were harvested from the Scopus bibliographical database (Elsevier, Maribor, Netherlands), on November 18th, 2018, using the search string bibliometric* in publication titles, abstracts, and keywords, limited to the subject of nursing, for the period 1970 to 2018. FINDINGS: The search resulted in 531 publications with 18 publications removed after manual inspection of publications abstracts. The literature production trend was positive. The nursing specific historical roots appeared only recently. The United States of America and Spain were the most productive countries, and most papers were published in Nutricion Hospitalaria and the Journal of Advanced Nursing. Descriptive analysis, research evaluation, content analysis, citation analyses, and trend analysis in nursing research were the most prolific themes. CONCLUSIONS: Applications of bibliometric in nursing is comparable to bibliometrics use in general, however there are some gaps including the use of altmetrics and of Big Data analysis.

RESUMO

The use of cluster analysis in the nursing literature is limited to the creation of classifications of homogeneous groups and the discovery of new relationships. As such, it is important to provide clarity regarding its use and potential. The purpose of this article is to provide an introduction to distance-based, partitioning-based, and model-based cluster analysis methods commonly utilized in the nursing literature, provide a brief historical overview on the use of cluster analysis in nursing literature, and provide suggestions for future research. An electronic search included three bibliographic databases, PubMed, CINAHL and Web of Science. Key terms were cluster analysis and nursing. The use of cluster analysis in the nursing literature is increasing and expanding. The increased use of cluster analysis in the nursing literature is positioning this statistical method to result in insights that have the potential to change clinical practice.

RESUMO

Nursing research in Spain cannot be understood without analyzing the development of this profession over the last 40 years. The social, political and economic context has determined the evolution of nursing research, and an analysis of the current situation is necessary to confront the immediate challenges the nursing profession has to handle. To offer a global perspective of care research in Spain as a framework for reflection and discussion on possible short and medium-term strategies that guide the planning and decision making of the different stakeholders involved in nursing research in Spain. A multi-method study combining documentary analysis with bibliometric methods was carried out. Some isolated policies to promote nursing research have been identified, a significant increase in doctoral training (49 doctoral programs) and 89 nurse research groups (1.92 groups per million inhabitants) responsible for a scientific production that puts Spain in seventh place in the world ranking of scientific production in the area of nursing. The increase in public expenditure on R & D &I and the growth in bibliometric impact are associated with a higher density of nursing research groups. Nursing research in Spain is sensitive to research promotion policies and resources, although there is no consolidated and uniform strategy that overcomes current barriers. The impact of the academic development of Spanish nNursing in scientific production is still unknown.
