Los niños y los adolescentes en el ámbito de la bioética: desafíos en la atención de salud en niños y adolescentes / Children and adolescents in bioethics: challenges in health care

RESUMEN

En las Terceras Conferencias de Bioética y Derecho de la Universidad, dedicadas a “Los niños y los adolescentes en el ámbito de la Bioética”, he creído oportuno abordar la formación y capacitación de profesionales a cargo de la salud de niños y adolescentes a la luz del análisis de documentos oficiales que existen al respecto. Nuestra Universidad, inmersa en la sociedad, debe ser un instrumento de progreso cultural, asumiendo la tarea de capacitar y formar en los derechos del niño y adolescente, enfatizando el concepto de que el adolescente es un sujeto de derechos y responsabilidades. En este sentido, nuestro rol es interpretar los derechos en el contexto de su familia, como ambiente promotor de la salud, desarrollo y bienestar de los adolescentes. Nuestra Universidad, en la enseñanza de Pediatría de Pregrado, debe abordar los problemas de la desigualdad en la atención de salud, haciendo prioritarias la educación y entrega de oportunidades a los más desposeídos, donde se incluyen la población indígena y pacientes con discapacidad intelectual y física. Nuestra misión de escuela llama a “formar médicos de excelencia, respetuosos de la dignidad de las personas, y de una moral basada en los principios cristianos como servicio a Chile y a la Iglesia”, y este es nuestro gran desafío llevar esta misión a nuestra realidad.

ABSTRACT

In the Third Conferences of Bioethics and Law of the University, dedicated to Children and Adolescents in Bioethics, I have thought it was appropriate to approach the formation and qualification of professionals in charge of the health of children and adolescents in light of the official documents on the subject. Our University, immersed in the society, must be an instrument of cultural progress, assuming the task of education on the rights of children and adolescents, emphasizing the fact that adolescents have both rights and obligations. In this sense, our role is to interpret the rights within the family context, as a promotional atmosphere of health, development and well-being for adolescents. Our University, in the education of undergraduate pediatrics, must approach the problems of health attention disparities, living priority to education and opportunities for the dispossessed, including the indigenous population and physically or intellectually impaired patients. The Mission of our School, prompts us “to nurture physicians of excellence, respectful of people’s dignity, and owners of morals base don Christian principles who are to serve Chile and the Catholic Church”, and this is our great challenge to make this Mission real.
