An assessment of the infestation of ticks Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus in 59 heifers of three genetic groups was run: Nellore, Guzerá and ½ Angus x ½ Nellore, belonging to the roster APTA Regional Andradina / SP. Every 28 days held the count of ticks, where the left side of the animal, with evaluation of only engorged females with more than 4.5 mm in the period from June 2007 to May 2008. The genetic group (P 0.01) and season (P 0.05) affected the count of ticks. Heifers ½ Angus x ½ Nellore had higher counts of ticks, while the Nellore and Guzera observed no differences between them (P> 0.05). The count of ticks was higher in the rainy season (4.32 ± 5.20) in comparison with the dry season (3.74 ± 5.54). Despite the higher counts of ticks during the experimental period, in heifers ½ Angus x ½ Nellore, this genetic group obtained the highest average daily weight gain (0.57 kg/day). Heifers and bulls Nellore and Guzerá were not statistically different in relation to daily weight gain, with averages of 0.37 and 0.40kg/day, respectively. ½ Angus heifers genetic group cattle have a higher infestation by ticks.
Foi avaliada a infestação de carrapatos Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus em 59 novilhas de três grupos genéticos: Nelore, Guzerá e ½ Angus x ½ Nelore, pertencentes ao plantel da Apta Regional de Andradina/SP. A cada 28 dias realizou-se a contagem de carrapatos, sempre do lado esquerdo do animal, com avaliação somente das fêmeas ingurgitadas com mais de 4,5 mm, no período de junho de 2007 a maio de 2008. O grupo genético (P 0,01) e a estação do ano (P 0,05) influenciaram a contagem de carrapatos. As novilhas ½ Angus x ½ Nelore apresentaram maior contagem de carrapatos, enquanto as Nelore e Guzerá não apresentaram diferenças entre si (P>0,05). A contagem de carrapatos foi maior na estação chuvosa (4,32±5,20) quando comparada com a estação seca (3,74±5,54). Apesar da maior contagem de carrapatos, durante o período experimental, encontrada nas novilhas ½ Angus x ½ Nelore, este grupo genético obteve as maiores médias de ganho de peso diário (0,57kg/dia). As novilhas Nelore e Guzerá não foram diferentes estatisticamente em relação ao ganho de peso diário, com médias de 0,37 e 0,40kg/dia, respectivamente. Novilhas do grupo genético ½ Angus x ½ Nelore apresentam maior infestação por carrapatos.
