The length of the various enteric segments as well as the intestine in its total length were studied in 20 adults buffaloes (10 males and 10 females).The results obtained were:small intestine ............................... .27.12 m ± 1.74cecum .............................................. O.43 m ± 0.05colon and rectum ............................. 7.70 m ± 0.53large intestine ................................. 8 .13 m ± 0.58total length ..................................... 32.25 m ± 2.03There was no significant difference concerning sex and intestinal length and no correlation either between the total length of the intestine and the weight and or length of the carcasse.

Os autores estudando o comprimento total do intestino, bem como de seus diversos segmentos, em 20 búfalos de raça não definida, 10 machos e 10 fêmeas, encontraram os seguintes valores:intestino delgado ................................... 27,12 ± 1,74 mceco ...................................................... 0,43 ±  0,05 mcólon e reto ............................................ 7,70 ±  0,53 mintestino grosso ....................................... 8,13 ±  0,58 mcomprimento total ................................. 32,25 ±  2,03 mOs resultados, quando submetidos a tratamento estatístico, não demonstraram existir diferenças significantes relativamente aos sexos e, tampouco, correlação entre as dimensões de todo o tubo entérico e os pesos ou comprimento das carcaças.

A complete portal ring (anulus pancreatis) was found in 4 (5.3%  ± 2.6) out of a total of 75 pancreas of ox. This anatomical disposition was not observed in 138 glands of zebu cattle.

The capacity of the rumen (paunch) was determined in a lot of 20 Zebu cattle (Nelore breed), adult (over 49,9 months), males, by emptying this compartment of the stomach, then filling him with and under water and measuring thus contained. The authors found that the average capacity of the rumen is 97,13 ± 2,30l.

The capacity of the rumen (paunch) was determined in a group of 15 adult and female Zebu cattle (Nelore breed), by emptying this compartment of the stomach, then filling it with water. Measuring the water volume, thus contained, the authors found that the average capacity of the rumen in these animals was 100.62 ± 3.91 L. Further, a statistically significant correlation was found between rumen capacity and both carcass length and weight.

The capacity of the rumen (paunch) was determined in two lots of 20 Zebu cattle (Nelore breed), all male, by emptying this compartment of the stomach, then filling it with water. Measuring the water volume thus contained, they was found that, -the average capacity of the rumen in animals with four (35.5 months) and six (43.5 months) permanent teeth was found, respectively, equal to 79.36± 0.75 I and 88.65 ±1,68 I. Both, the correlation between rumen capacity and carcass length (measured from the junction of the seventh cervical and the first thoracic vertebrae to the lumbo-sacral junction) and the correlation between rumen capacity and carcass weight (excluding the head), were statistically significant. The capacity difference of the rumen in the two bovine lots was also found to be significant.
