Resumo

We determined the prevalence of Nellore elite bulls able to reproduce in a property in northeast Pará,through clinical andrological exam of 17 bulls. This total, 15/17 (88.2%) were eligible as fit. However, 2/17(11.76%) animals showed marked testicular asymmetry (unfit). In the semen of the unfit, wasnt difference inmean lower sperm defects (11.25 ± 5.70%) and total sperm pathologies (15.37 ± 7.12%) compared to suitableanimals, whose averages were 2.66 ± 1.18% of minor defects and 5.40 ± 1.88% of total diseases. The averagesof progressive motility (73.33 ± 6.18%), concentration (1.25 ± 0,82x109mL) and higher sperm defects (2.70 ±1.42%) of elected, did not differ statistically from the unfit. The two animals with testicular hypoplasia werediagnosed by histopathologic exam. The results were satisfactory, however the occurrence of testicularhypoplasia still persists in the region, being an aggravating future for female fertility.(AU)
