In this study, 14 "post mortem" equine metacarpal bones were evaluated to correlate the medial III metacarpus perimeter to dorsal bone density of the same region using Computed Tomography and Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS). According to Pearson's test, there were not correlations between these variables. Considering there are few bone densitometry studies in horses and there are many variables that can interfere with bone mineralization, new studies on equine bone density applying standard variables are recommended.

Ultrassonografia quantitativa do fígado e do ligamento falciformede gatos tratados com prednisolona / Quantitative ultrasound of the liver and the falciform ligament of cats treated with prednisolone

A subjetividade presente nas avaliações ultrassonográficas pode resultar em divergências na interpretação dosseus achados. Para minimizá-las são utilizadas técnicas que quantificam a ecogenicidade e a ecotextura dasregiões avaliadas, como o método do histograma dos níveis de cinza. Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar osachados ultrassonográficos do fígado e ligamento falciforme de gatos submetidos a corticoterapia com predinisolona.Foram realizadas avaliações através da ultrassonografia quatitativa de nove gatos submetidos administraçãodo fármaco prednisolona na dose diária de 6mg/kg,durante14dias. Para minimizar a subjetividade doexame foi utilizada a técnica do histograma dos níveis de cinza. Os resultados demonstraram aumento da ecogenicidadedo fígado entre os momentos experimentais (p<0,01). Conclui-se ao exame ultrassonográfico quantitativoque a prednisolona na dose utilizada promoveu alterações hepáticas em um curto espaço de tempo.(AU)

The subjectivity present in the sonographic evaluation may result indifferences in interpretation of theirfindings. Tominimize these techniques are used to quantify the echogenicity and echo texture of the regionsevaluated, the method of the histogram of the gray levels. This study had the objective to evaluatethe sonographic findings of the liver and the falciform ligament of cats undergoing corticosteroid the rapywith prednisolone. Evaluations were carried out through ultrasound quantitative of nine cats subjected toadministration of the drug prednisolone at a daily dose of 6mg/kg for 14days. To minimize the subjectivityof the test, we used the technique of the histogram of the gray levels. The results showed increased echogenicityof the liver between the experimental time (p <0.01). It is concluded that quantitative ultrasounddexamination in the prednisolone dose promoted liver changes in as hort time.(AU)
