The Neotropical ruteline genus Pelidnota MacLeay currently includes 194 species and subspecies with a few described preimaginal stages. Here we describe the pupa of Pelidnota granulata (Gory, 1834), provide illustrations, comparative notes on other known pupae of Rutelini and comments on its geographical distribution. The key to known pupae of Rutelini is updated.(AU)

Resumo

The third instar larva and pupa of Macraspis morio Burmeister, 1844 (Rutelinae: Rutelini: Anticheirina), collected in Paraná, Brazil, is described and illustrations and comments are given. The larva differs from other Macraspis larvae by the head with 6 posterofrontal setae and mandibles with a blunt second left incisor tooth. The pupa is similar to that of M. festiva Burmeister, 1844.

Abstract Studies about the immature stages of Orphninae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) species are scarce. The subfamily includes 214 species, but only 5 have the immature stages described: Chaetonyx robustus liguricus Mariani, 1946, Hybalus benoiti Tournier, 1864, H. rotroui Petrovitz, 1964 and Triodontus nitidulus (Guérin, 1844) from Old World; and Aegidium cribratum Bates, 1887 from the New World. The Neotropical genus ParaegidiumVulcano, Pereira & Martinez, 1966 encompass five species, mainly recorded from Brazil. Herein, the immature stages of P. costalimaiVulcano, Pereira & Martinez, 1966 are described and illustrated, along with remarks on the presence of egg-buster in Scarabaeidae first-instar larvae. A key to the third-instar larvae of known Orphninae and a comparative study of chaetotaxy are also provided.

Pupae of chafer beetle (Melolonthidae) Cnemida retusa (Fabricius, 1801) (Rutelinae, Rutelini) were collected in October and November of 2017 in a decaying log at Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke, Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil, and are described and illustrated. The pupa description is the first to the genus and a key to known pupae of Rutelini is added.

Larvae of the species were detected in blueberry (Vaccinium ashei Reade) cultivar 'O´Neal', in March 2012 in the city of Pelotas, RS, Brazil. The white grub fed up with roots in restricted areas from the orchard. This is the first record of C. flavipennis in blueberry plants.(AU)

ABSTRACT The corn white grub, Liogenys suturalis, attacks corn, wheat and oat crops in Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. This pest damages roots of plants, thereby reducing the plants capacity to take up water and nutrients, and hence lowering their potential yield. A great number of organisms can act as natural enemies of below-ground insects or the ones that spend only part of their life cycle below ground. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the occurrence of parasitism on L. suturalis larvae collected in three counties of the Southern region of Mato Grosso do Sul State. The occurrence of parasitoids of the Ptilodexia genus (Diptera: Tachinidae) was observed in all 3 counties. The greatest percentage of parasitism was observed in Laguna Carapã (22.5%) followed by Caarapó (15.9%) and Ponta Porã (0.8%).
