Poincianella pyramidalis (catingueira) is a endemic plant of the Caatinga, selected by animals grazing on native pasture. With the aim of evaluating characteristics indicative of its nutritional quality, 10 plants were selected and identified, sampled at five different ages, were used to determine dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), mineral matter (MM), DM degradability (Deg DM), NDF degradability (Deg NDF) and in situ and in vitro leaf-tissue degradability. Phytochemical prospection was performed, and 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance applied to detect the presence of secondary compounds. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and Tukeys test at 5%, and correlation analysis was carried out on the variables for leaf maturity in days. The levels of CP, NDF and Deg NDF showed a negative correlation with the increases in leaf age. Leaf-tissue degradation was restricted due to a physical barrier developed in the leaf fragments, which can be attributed to plant defence mechanisms. The in situ degradability of the cell wall components decreased with the increase in leaf age. The high levels of tannins and lignin, and the strong presence of flavonoids, should be considered for their anti-nutritional and pharmacological potential.(AU)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the replacement of Tifton 85 hay (Cynodon spp.) by maniçoba hay or silage (Manihot glaziovii Muell. Arg) on sheep intake and performance. Twenty-four male Santa Ines animals were used, with initial body weight of 19.77 ± 1.95 kg and average age of 160 days. The animals were distributed in three treatments (Tifton 85 hay-TH, Maniçoba hay-MH and Maniçoba silage-MS), arranged in a randomized blocks design, with 8 replicates per treatment. The feedlot period lasted for 71 days. The means of the variables were tested by Tukeys test at 5% probability. Sheep fed MH presented higher dry matter intake (p > 0.05) than those fed TH (1.17 kg day-1 vs 1.06 kg day-1). Neutral detergent fiber intake was higher (p > 0.05) for MH-fed sheep (0.394 kg day-1) when compared to MS (0.340 kg day-1). The digestibility of total carbohydrates was higher (p > 0.05) for MH diet (0.71 g kg-1) than TH (0.67 g kg-1). The average daily gain and body weight at slaughter did not differ (p > 0.05) among treatments. Maniçoba hay or silage can replace Tifton 85 hay in sheep diets.(AU)

The use of native forages Caatinga set up as an alternative for the sustainable production systems in Northeast Brazil. This study aimed to evaluate the substitution of Tifton 85 hay by Maniçoba hay in the components of the body weight of Moxotó goats. The animals were steers, initially weighing 21.67±3.92 kg, housed in individual pens and slaughtered at 58 days of confinement. The type of hay did not influence (P>0.05) any of the carcass traits. The animals presented for slaughter average body weight of 21.83 kg, and average weights of hot and cold carcass of 9.83 kg and 9.21 kg, respectively. The carcass were not affected by the type of hay (P>0.05) and average 44.98% and 42.11% for hot cold carcass. The loin eye area (LEA) and carcass compactness index had averages of 6.19 cm² and 0.159 kg cm-1, respectively, and did not influence the type of hay in the diet. There was no difference (P> 0.05) between diets for weight of organs and viscera. The diet Tifton 85 yielded higher (P 0.05) weights skin. Replacement of Tifton 85 hay by Maniçoba hay, the diet of Moxotó goats does not alter carcass component, but reduces the weight of the skin.(AU)

(Mez) Chase. Com isso houve aumento na cobertura
The caatinga biome refuge an impressive biodiversity floristic, and represents the fourth biggest covered area by unic vegetation in Brazil with potential of hardware production, on arboreal strata, shrubby and herbaceous. Aimed whith this work, evaluate the efect of silvopastoral management of caatinga whith the control of the number of regrowth of jurema preta over the herbaceous vegetation and litter. The experiment was conduzed in Lameirão Farm belonging of health's center and rural tecnology of Federal University of Campina Grande, localizated in municipality of Santa Terezinha - PB, Brazil. Was used an area of four hectare, divided in four pickets with approximately one hectare each, and subdivided in four plots os 45m x 45m, totalizing sixteen plots. After cutting the uniformity of woody vegetation, was implanted the silvipastoril management referring of control of rebrotas of jurema preta in 2015, in four levels: T0 = witness, allowing the growth of all Jurema's regrowth and T1, T2 and T3, allowing the growth of 1, 2 and 3 regrowths of jurema preta, respectively. The outline used was in random blocks (DBC) with four treatments and four repetitions. For the data collect of all the variables, was used iron frame (sampling unit) with dimensions of 1,00 x 0,25m. Was realized four collections during the rainy season (march, april, may, june of 2019) and two on dry season (september and october of 2019). In this periods, was collected data regarding the presence of herbaceous species in each parcel and ground cover by herbaceous species. For the data of frequency was made a descriptive statistics and multivariate for analyze of conglomerates, using Jaccard distance with medium connection, having goal to identificate similar groups of species. And to ground cover used the test of Tukey at the level of 5%. These data was compared with the data of collections of previous years (2016, 2017 and 2018). Besides that, whats collected samples to demonster the disponibility and the chemical composition of the dry matter (kg of DM/ha) of phytomass of foot of herbaceous vegetation and of litter. These data was compared with the data collectd in the same area in 2016 (start of data collection). In all of collections samples were taken of grasses, mauve, others herbaceous eudicotiledoneas and litter, that were weighed fresh and dried in greenhouse in laboratory of animal nutrition (LANA). The data of fresh biomass and dry were submitted to analysis of variance using the statistical program SAS (2007), and the avarage were compared by the Tukey's test in the level of 5% of probability. In all of evaluated periods the species that more stand out were Mesosphaerum suaveolens (L.) Kuntze), Sida cordifolia L, Axonopus purpusii (Mez) Chase, but also with the over the years there was an appearance of news species in area. In a geral mode, the results indicate recuperation of area, with presence of indicator species of progressive succession, like Stylosanthes sp, Phaseoulus lathyroides L. Centrosema sp. Axonopus purpusii. (Mez) Chase. With this, there was increased in ground coverr and disponibility of dry matter of phytomass of foot and litter.
