Resumo
This study empirically examined the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on transaction costs in the sales stage from three dimensions of information costs, negotiation costs, and enforcing costs. The micro-sampling survey data was collected from 1338 vegetable growers in Hebei and Shandong provinces of China. We applied propensity score matching to examine the facts that adopting ICT can significantly decrease farmers' information costs through improving information accuracy and reducing searching difficulty, and reducing negotiation costs by lowering the negotiation time. However, using ICT has no significant impact on default risk and transportation difficulty thus enforcing costs of farmers have a slight difference. Therefore, a coordinated set of policies including cultivating farmers' ability to obtain information, advancing the construction of vegetable distribution channels and improving the market supervision mechanism are put forward.

This research analyzed the efficiency of a channel on the YouTube platform as a strategy for scientific dissemination and rural extension. The channel was created at the end of 2018 and the last video published in March 2021, totaling 58 videos. Through the metrics made available by YouTube Analytics, the information related to the channel, the audience, the searches on the platform and the engagement of the public were analyzed. Regarding the channel's metrics, an average of 15 minutes of total viewing duration, 144 subscriptions obtained and 8 lost. The audience metrics show that the channel has WhatsApp ©, Gmail ©, university website and Google© research as its main external sources. Furthermore, there is an audience, mostly female, Brazilian, between 18 and 24 years old, with access mainly by cell phone, computer and TV. The channel searches were more relevant than those coming from the platform itself, in addition to direct or unknown origin, they had a longer average duration and hours watching, but a lower viewing rate. In the engagement, the use of the elements of the final screen was positive and more used after such confirmation, in addition, in the majority of the videos, they generated positive interactions with a majority of "I liked" instead of "I didn't like". We concluded, therefore, that in matters of scientific dissemination, the channel gained relevance when observing the growing metrics in relation to the public, while the rural extension also, however, with the participation of younger producers, requiring analyzes of how to reach the other age groups. Furthermore, it highlights the need for further research to understand better ways of engaging the public.

The use of animals is an important step in scientific and technological development in biomedical research. Animals kept in suitable conditions for scientific purposes can be considered laboratory animals. However, most people are unaware of ethical concepts used in laboratory animal science such as Animal Welfare and the principle of the 3Rs (replacement, reduction, and refinement). Dissemination of this knowledge is necessary during student education, considering the students as scientific communicators in society. The aim was to evaluate the knowledge of high school students from private and public schools in the East-Center region of São Paulo state. The analysis was performed using an online survey form about the laboratory animals science issue of basic knowledge, ethical principles, animal welfare, 3Rs, and the use of animals in scientific research. Forty students answered the online survey form. Twenty-five percent of adolescents did not know the purpose of using animals in research, 90% had never visited or been to a laboratory that works with biomedical research, and 62.5% had never heard of the concepts of animal welfare and the 3Rs. Most adolescents believe that laboratory animals' contribution is limited to the elaboration of vaccines, medicines, and serums. Therefore, we conclude that the insertion of thematic content, student participation in extension projects, and debates about the science of laboratory animals are extremely necessary for disseminating an understanding of the subject and avoiding the spread of false knowledge.

The aim of this study was to analyze the production patterns present in rural properties producing cattle in the micro-regions that make up the state of Pará. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was applied to identify the patterns, and these data are used to evaluate correlation between the heterogeneity of rural properties and the environmental impact on the identified patterns. The theoretical contribution is based on discussions on global impacts of food production and environmental sustainability and the impacts of livestock production systems in Brazil and the Amazon. Survey data were taken from the 2017 Agricultural Census, available for the 144 municipalities in the state, and pooled into 22 micro-regions. Three patterns of rural properties were identified: the first related to conservation management practices and called transition management; the second highlights aspects associated with information technology and communication (ICT) and productivity called technical productive efficiency; the third indicates the importance of social organization and access to information called social participation. With these patterns, it was possible to develop the Traditional Performance Indicator (TPI), in which the micro-regions of São Félix do Xingu, Itaituba and Conceição do Araguaia were those with the highest values of this indicator, water protection practices are present in the properties, however, in precarious conditions, and conservation practices are rarely used. The correlation between heterogeneity, measured by the size of pasture area in each microregion, and the TPI is positive, strong and significant. In this transition context, public policies are essential to provide access to infrastructure, credit and good animal health and biotechnology practices.(AU)

Amphibians inhabit the terrestrial environment, a conquest achieved after several evolutionary steps, which were still insufficient to make them completely independent of the aquatic environment. These processes gave rise to many morphological and physiological changes, making their skin (and cutaneous secretion) rich in bioactive molecules. Among the tree frogs, the secretion is composed mainly of peptides; but alkaloids, proteins and steroids can also be found depending on the species. The most known class of biologically active molecules is the antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) that act against bacteria, fungi and protozoans. Although these molecules are well-studied among the hylids, AMPs ontogeny remains unknown. Therefore, we performed peptidomic and proteomic analyses of Pithecopus nordestinus (formerly Phyllomedusa nordestina) in order to evaluate the peptide content in post-metamorphosed juveniles and adult individuals. Methods: Cutaneous secretion of both life stages of individuals was obtained and analyzed by LC-MS/MS after reduction and alkylation of disulfide bonds or reduction, alkylation and hydrolysis by trypsin. Results: Differences in the TIC profile of juveniles and adults in both treatments were observed. Moreover, the proteomic data revealed known proteins and peptides, with slight differences in the composition, according to the life stage and the treatment. AMPs were identified, and bradykinin-potentiating peptides were observed in trypsin-treated samples, which suggests a protein source of such peptide (cryptide). Conclusion: In general, skin secretion contents were similar between juveniles and adults, varying in quantity, indicating that the different stages of life are reflected in the number of molecules and not on their diversity.(AU)

Background Solitary wasp venoms may be a rich source of neuroactive substances, since their venoms are used for paralyzing preys. We have been exploring bioactive constituents of solitary wasp venoms and, in this study, the component profile of the venom from a solitary scoliid wasp, Scolia decorata ventralis, was investigated through a comprehensive analysis using LC-MS. Two peptides were synthesized, and their neuroprotective properties were evaluated. Methods A reverse-phase HPLC connected to ESI-MS was used for LC-MS analyses. Online mass fingerprinting was performed from TIC, and data-dependent tandem mass spectrometry gave the MS/MS spectra. The sequences of two major peptide components were determined by MALDI-TOF/TOF MS analysis, confirmed by solid phase synthesis. Using the synthetic peptides, biological activities were assessed. Cell integrity tests and neuroprotection analyzes using H2O2 as an oxidative stress inducer were performed for both peptides. Results Online mass fingerprinting revealed that the venom contains 123 components, and the MS/MS analysis resulted in 33 full sequences of peptide components. The two main peptides, α-scoliidine (DYVTVKGFSPLR) and β-scoliidine (DYVTVKGFSPLRKA), present homology with the bradykinin C-terminal. Despite this, both peptides did not behave as substrates or inhibitors of ACE, indicating that they do not interact with this metallopeptidase. In further studies, β-scoliidine, but not α -scoliidine, showed protective effects against oxidative stress-induced neurotoxicity in PC12 cells through integrity and metabolism cell assays. Interestingly, β-scoliidine has the extension of the KA dipeptide at the C-terminal in comparison with α-scoliidine. Conclusion Comprehensive LC-MS and MS/MS analyses from the Scolia decorata ventralis venom displayed the component profile of this venom. β-scoliidine showed an effective cytoprotective effect, probably due to the observed increase in the number of cells. This is the first report of solitary wasp venom peptides showing neuroprotective activity.(AU)

Control of livestock and their movement has long been recognized as a crucial for the prevention and control of diseases. In Brazil, the control of livestock movement established in 1934. Since 1995 is regulated based on the Animal Movement Permit (GTA). Since then, the process has been improved and updated on its legal framework and strategies, including the use of emerging technological alternatives, which made possible the launching of the electronic Animal Movement Permit (e-GTA) in 2011.

Background: Trigeminal nerve is composed by ophthalmic, maxillary and mandibular portion, presenting sensory and motor functions. Its most common conditions include vascular, neoplastic, infectious and inflammatory causes. Neuritis is an inflammation caused by a primary nerve injury that can progress to demyelination and even degeneration of nerve fibers. The present report aims to describe an unusual case of a female dog, German Shepherd breed, with acute manifestation of trigeminal nerve neuritis whose etiology may be associated with erlichiosis, since infection with Ehrlichia spp. through serological test was verified. Case: A 3-year-old female German Shepherd, weighing 26.8 kg and not neutered, was attended at Veterinary Hospital Dr. Halim Atique - UNIRP, São José do Rio Preto, SP, Brazil presenting apathy, sialorrhea and polydipsia for seven days. The tutor reported an episode of foamy and yellowish vomit three days ago and ixodidiosis last week. Physical examination revealed flaccid open-mouthed posture, with mild bilateral masseter and moderate temporal muscle atrophy. Water was offered to the animal and it was observed that it could not properly seize, confirming a false polydipsia. The neurological examination revealed a slight decrease in head sensitivity, difficulty in chewing and seizure of food. It was not observed alterations in the other pairs of cranial nerves or other neurological parameters (postural reactions and spinal reflexes), and the diagnose of bilateral dysfunction of the trigeminal nerve was based on the affected neuroanatomic region. On neurological examination, other lesions of the nervous system were ruled out, suggesting an isolated manifestation of the trigeminal nerve. CBC revealed anemia, intense thrombocytopenia and leukocytosis by neutrophilia. Radiographic examination ruled out the possibility of trauma due to the absence of mandible fracture and also temporomandibular joint alterations. Masseter and temporal muscle biopsy were performed, and myositis

Masseter and temporal muscle biopsy were performed, and myositis (AU)

To treat seed lots during the beneficiation process industrial seed treatment (TIS) has been used on seedlings. However, the actual TIS influence on the physiological quality of soybeans throughout storage is not yet known. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of TIS on the physiological quality of seeds of soybean cultivars during storage. Three soybean cultivars (M7110 IPRO, RR-8473RSF, M7739 IPRO) were subjected to four chemical treatment combinations (TIC-treated fungicide / insecticide): T1 - control; T2 - fungicide (Derosal Plus® - 200mL); T3 - insecticide (Cruiser ® - 500mL); T4 - a mixture of fungicide and insecticide products metalaxyl + thiabendazole + fludioxonil (MaximAdvanced - 200 mL) and thiamethoxam insecticide (Cruiser 350 FS - 500 mL). The samples were stored for a total of six months, with evaluation before storage and monthly throughout the storage period (0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 days). The seeds were stored in a cold chamber regulated at 12 ± 2 ºC and a relative humidity of 45± 2%. In addition to determining the water content, the following germination and vigor tests were performed: first count, seedling length, seedling dry mass and accelerated aging. A completely randomized design was used, in a 3 x 4 x 7 factorial scheme, with four replications. The data were initiallysubjected to analysis of variance, and later discriminated by the Tukey test (p <0.05) (cultivars and chemical products) and regression (storage period). The work concludes that the use of insecticide favored the length of seedlings in cultivar RR-8473 RSF. Chemicals affected the quality and vigor of seeds in all studied cultivars. Soybean seeds can be stored with chemical treatment for commercial purposes for up to 60 days.

Abstract Background: Among the hymenopteran insect venoms, those from social wasps and bees - such as honeybee, hornets and paper wasps - have been well documented. Their venoms are composed of a number of peptides and proteins and used for defending their nests and themselves from predators. In contrast, the venoms of solitary wasps and bees have not been the object of further research. In case of solitary bees, only major peptide components in a few venoms have been addressed. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to explore the peptide component profile of the venom from the solitary bee Xylocopa appendiculata circumvolans by peptidomic analysis with using LC-MS. Methods: A reverse-phase HPLC connected to ESI-OrbiTrap MS was used for LC-MS. On-line mass fingerprinting was made from TIC, and data-dependent tandem mass spectrometry gave MSMS spectra. A major peptide component was isolated by reverse-phase HPLC by conventional way, and its sequence was determined by Edman degradation, which was finally corroborated by solid phase synthesis. Using the synthetic specimen, biological activities (antimicrobial activity, mast cell devaluation, hemolysis, leishmanicidal activity) and pore formation in artificial lipid bilayer were evaluated. Results: On-line mass fingerprinting revealed that the crude venom contained 124 components. MS/MS analysis gave 75 full sequences of the peptide components. Most of these are related to the major and novel peptide, xylopin. Its sequence, GFVALLKKLPLILKHLH-NH2, has characteristic features of linear cationic -helical peptides; rich in hydrophobic and basic amino acids with no disulfide bond, and accordingly, it can be predicted to adopt an amphipathic -helix secondary structure. In biological evaluation, xylopin exhibited broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, and moderate mast cell degranulation and leishmanicidal activities, but showed virtually no hemolytic activity. Additionally, the peptide was able to incorporate pores in artificial lipid bilayers of azolectin, confirming the mechanism of the cytolytic activity by pore formation in biological membranes. Conclusions: LC-ESI-MS and MS/MS analysis of the crude venom extract from a solitary bee Xylocopa appendiculata circumvolans revealed that the component profile of this venom mostly consisted of small peptides. The major peptide components, xylopin and xylopinin, were purified and characterized in a conventional manner. Their chemical and biological characteristics, belonging to linear cationic -helical peptides, are similar to the known solitary bee venom peptides, melectin and osmin. Pore formation in artificial lipid bilayers was demonstrated for the first time with a solitary bee peptide.
