ABSTRACT
Diabetic cataract, intumescent, rapidly prigressive, bilateral and independent of insulin treatment is the most frequently diagnosed ophthalmopathy in diabetic dogs. Generally it accompanies many complications, such as lens induced uveitis and glaucoma. Such alterations must be diagnosed and treated. Glycaemia levels must be measured and controlled before surgical treatment to guarantee its success. Advances in surgical techniques, in the diabetes monitoring and in diagnostic technology (Electroretinography and Ultrasonography of the eye), makes the outcomes more and more favorable in the return and conservation of the vision in these animals(AU)
