Entende-se por Bem-Estar Animal a manutenção das condições psicológicas e fisiológicas dos animais de criação. Animais saudáveis e livres de situações estressantes tendem a ser maisprodutivos e conseguem manifestar todo seu potencial genético. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a condição de Bem-Estar dos animais através da quantificação de contusões e fraturas em carcaças de bovinos, abatidos no Estado de Goiás. Para isso, foi realizada a coleta de dados dos registros do Serviço de Inspeção Federal (SIF), quando foram contabilizados todos os animais destinados ao Departamento de Inspeção Final (DIF), abate de emergência e necropsia cujas causas tenham sido contusões e/ou fraturas, bem como a habilitação de origem e o destino final dado às carcaças. Do total das carcaças destinadas ao DIF, apenas 3.17% apresentaram como causas contusões efraturas. Por outro lado, 91.67% dos animais submetidos ao abate de emergência e 82.35% daqueles que sofreram necropsia tiveram como causa contusões e fraturas. Das 86 carcaças envolvidas, 39 foram destinadas ao mercado interno, 29 para conserva, 3 graxaria e 15 incineradas. Conclui-se que, embora pequenas, ainda existem falhas no processo que comprometem o Bem-Estar Animal e a rentabilidade da cadeia.(AU)It is understood by Animal Welfare the maintenance of the psychological and physiological conditions of livestock.
