Avaliações radiográficas permitiram acompanhar a consolidação do colo ósseo.
This study aimed to describe na alteration in the structure and in the type of external immobilization of the locomotor members of animals, using the modified. Thomas device as an auxiliary method in the reduction of open fractures associated or not to bone nails. The modification consisted of the transformation of the oval form of the original hoop of the device into a saddle form, allowing a better adaptation in dorsal, scapular and lombo-sacral regions, and fixing it, at the same time, bilaterally. The device was tested in 80 dog bearing different fractures in the locomotor members. Radiographic evaluations allowed to follow the consolidation of the bone callus. In G-I, the Thomas device was removed between 35 and 40 days; in the animals of the G-II, the device was removed after 25 days and the intramedular bolt after 55 days; and in those of the G-III, the removal of the intramedular bolt was done after 90 days. The adaptation allowed the use of the device in males, without compromising their external genitalia. In 79 animals, independently of species and type of fracture, the changes proposed in Thomas device had contributed to hasten the reestablishment of patients(AU)
