Resumo
The objective of this study was to evaluate reproductive parameters of Canindé and British Alpine goatsin the states of Piauí and Ceará by measuring scrotal circumference (CE) and seminal parameters of eightanimals (Canindé (4) and British Alpine (4). Four samples were collected from each animal with the aid of anartificial vagina, after which each ejaculate was evaluated for volume, sperm concentration, total andprogressive mass motility, percentage of motile spermatozoa and vigor. Data were expressed as mean andstandard deviation and analyzed using the statistical program Graphpad Prism®. Although the values ofprogressive motility, scrotal circumference and volume were significantly higher in the British Alpine breed, thetwo races of the present study presented values regarding total motility and vigor within the one recommendedby the CBRA. Thus, the semen of the two breeds can be used for artificial insemination, germplasm bankformation and genetic breeding.(AU)
