Resumo

This research focused on monitoring the farming early stage (nursery) of the Chitralada strain of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in a dam using net-tank system. This farming was done by an enterprise association in the district of Quitaiús, municipality of Lavras da Mangabeira, in the South-Central region of the state of Ceará. The fingerlings with weight of 1 gram were farmed for 50 days until they reach their final weight of 56 grams. After that, they were transferred to farming cages at a stocking density of 1,000 fingerlings. After testing empirically several densities, the stocking density of 416.6 per m3 for nursery cage of 4.8 m3 (2.0 x 2.0 X 1.2m), totaling 2,000 fingerlings per cage, showed the best performance in the average weight. At this farming stage, a powdered chow diet composed by 55% of crude protein was taken in 10 daily meals observing the same time interval.(AU)
