Resumo

This paper aims to compile the current knowledge of diversity, richness and geographical distribution of bats in the State of Paraíba, Northeastern Brazil. It alsointends to update the lists recently published about the group at the State scale, and establish a clear reveal of the geographicaldistribution of occurring species in the Caatinga and Atlantic Forest biomes located in this State. The data survey was based on thegray literature and studies published in scientific journals. The information obtained through the consulted references were crossed and organized into lists, maps and charts. A total of 66 species of bats distributed in 45 genera and eight families (Emballonuridae = 06; Phyllostomidae = 36; Mormoopidae = 01; Noctilionidae = 02; Natalidae = 01; Molossidae = 10; Vespertilionidae = 09; Furipteridae = 01) are now known as occurring in the State of Paraíba. The records are reported from 34 localities and 30 cities, being 60 records based on material deposited in collections. Among the recorded species, six have their occurrences based only on scientific citations, requiring proof by collecting and storage of voucher specimens in scientific collections. For characteristics regarding the sampled municipalities, eight are located in the Atlantic Forest biome (43 species; 18 exclusives) and 22 are in the Caatinga biome (39 species; 16 exclusives), which share 25 species (Jaccard = 42%) and have being objects of bats research since 1986 and 2004, respectively. Although well represented in scientific collections of mammals, the bat fauna of the State of Paraíba, particularly the one that occurs in Caatinga and in the Caatinga Moist Forests Enclaves (Brejos) are clearly subsampled.(AU)

O presente trabalho objetiva compilar o conhecimento atual da diversidade, riqueza e distribuição geográfica de morcegos da Paraíba, bem como atualizar listagens recentemente publicadas sobre o grupo, em nível estadual, e revelar, claramente, a distribuição geográfica das espécies que ocorre nos biomas Caatinga e Floresta Atlântica, encontrados nesse Estado. O levantamento de dados foi feito com base em dados da literatura cinza e de trabalhos publicados em periódicos científicos. As informações obtidas através das referências consultadas foram cruzadas e organizadas em listas, mapas e gráficos. Um total de 66 espécies de morcegos distribuídas em 45 gêneros e oito famílias (Emballonuridae = 06; Phyllostomidae = 36; Mormoopidae = 01; Noctilionidae = 02; Natalidae = 01; Molossidae = 10; Vespertilionidae = 09; Furipteridae = 01) são agora conhecidas como ocorrentes na Paraíba. Os registros reportados são provenientes de 34 localidades e 30 cidades, sendo 60 registros subsidiados em material depositado m coleções. Entre as espécies registrads, seis tem as suas ocorrências baseadas apenas em citações bibliográficas. Portanto,necessitando de comprovação através da coleta e depósito de espécimes-testemunhos em coleções científicas, de referência.Em relação aos municípios amostrados, oito estão inseridos no bioma Floresta Atlântica (43 espécies; 18 exclusivas) e 22 estão no bioma Caatinga (39 espécies; 16 exclusivas), os quais compartilham 25 espécies (Jaccard = 42%), e têm sido objetos de investigações sobre morcegos desde 1986 e 2004, respectivamente. Embora bem representada nas coleções científicas de mamíferos, a fauna de morcegos da Paraíba, particularmente aquela ocorrente na Caatinga e nos Brejos de Altitude, está claramente sub amostrada.(AU)
