Eighty-eight guzera breeding cows were alloted at randon in two treatments, in order to compare the productive performance of two breeding seasons: A May to July (3 months), and B: April to August (5 months). Although not statistically significant, the reduction in the lengh of the breeding season from 5 to 3 months caused an average decrease of 5.41% units (75.18 vs 69.77%) in the rate of fertility during the 3 years of the experiment. Based on the monthly frequency of calving and on liveweight loss from calving to weaning it can be concluded that the difference was due to the supression of the month of April in the 3-month breeding season. It is suggested that under the conditions of this experiment the 3-month breeding season should start in April.O ensaio, conduzido na Estação Experimental de Zootecnia de Sertãozinho (SP), teve como objetivo principal estimar a fertilidade de vacas zebuínas submetidas a uma estação de monta de três meses de duração (maio a julho). Foram utilizadas 88 vacas da raça guzerá, divididas em dois lotes, durante três anos: um lote foi submetido à estação de monta de maio a julho (A) e, outro considerado como testemunha, de abril a agosto (B). Quando se limitou a estação de monta para três meses de duração, observou-se uma tendência em diminuir a fertilidade das vacas. A supressão do mês de abril parece ter sido a causa da diminuição da fertilidade, sugerindo-se, portanto, que a estação de monta reduzida seja de abril a junho.
